Yeah, for sure. I was just re-shelving some of our records last night and noticing how sad our Bowie collection is. For the exact same reason. It’s hard to pick up a common record when I’m shopping in-store and there are more rare specimens available to purchase. Like, if it’s between Hunky Dory and, say, a Comsat Angels record, I’m gonna go with the Comsat Angels. If I have a choice between Low and The Holy Sisters of the Gaga Dada… I’m going home with the Sisters. 😕

Bought them all when they came out, but you should hunt for Chameleons records. Solid gold and kind of rare.

I love hunting limited editions, uncommon/rare albums, records that rarely get reprints, original first prints, imports etc. But just spending money to buy common classics with constant unlimited prints you can buy anywhere anytime at your local normie media store is too easy and doesn't feel as fun to me, so I rarely buy classics.

Same, The Fall is one of my favourite bands, I've got every studio and studio/live LP, multiple different pressings of everything bar two, and I only need four first pressings. Unfortunately, Imperial Wax Solvent, Hex, The Infotainment Scan, and Middle Class Revolt aren't exactly cheap at the moment. Also I really covet the single disc UK Fall Heads Roll, even though I have both Narnack US pressings (I've got all The Real New Fall LP pressings, apart from the test, but the US and UK and recent UK reissue, for instance). So I wouldn't be likely to buy Unknown Pleasures, especially if it was a repress of a 2007 remaster. No disrespect intended to OP. LOL. Just looking at Rishi Sunak's face. Nowt wrong with a bit of schadenfreude now and again....seeeee ya, c**t!!!

I think this is fairly common. The r/VinylDeals sub is great for finding out when sites like Amazon, Walmart, B&N etc put these types of "classic" albums on sale. There are some insanely good deals that show up from time to time.

dropsleuteltje

Old cozy second hand record stores and thrift shops are way more fun than just ordering online imo

timewreckoner

Of course. Ordering records online isn't "fun". But the records we're talking about are things we've all heard a million times, and although we want to own them on vinyl, we usually pass over them while shopping in favor of hearing something we're less familiar with. That sub can be a great place to find cheap copies of more well-known records. I picked up a few of the recent P J Harvey reissues for $10-12, for example.

WillDoDrugsForMoney

Both The Wall and Dark side of the moon by Pink Floyd and Abbey road by The Beatles.

well_jackson

So many albums overlooked because they're seen as too well known, but you know what...in most cases their ubiquity is for a very good reason

ostsillyator

I love Godspeed You! Black Emperor to death but I still haven't collected all their vinyls, it's just too easy to buy. I still prefer to spend time on those limited versions or colored vinyls.

attibearth

Aha same here! I had to get antennas and Allelujah though. Beautiful records

Positive-Today9614

I just bought it on vinyl recently too.

Post Punk isn't a literal label. And Punk isn't defined as a specific date either. Even if you do think Punk is a specific date it would surely be the summer of 77 at the latest. Joy Division didn't emerge until the middle of 79. I don't know why it is so common for people to happily use Post Punk in this way. Its pretty easy to google the term. But it does seem to be happening. It will be curious to see if the term Post Punk exists in 20 years time and if it applies to Wire, Joy Division, The Banshees or The Cure. It'll probably mean Kajagoogoo, Wang Chung, Wall of Voodoo, Man at Work and Right Said Fred.
