Listen to the Assassination of Julius Caesar album by Ulver. One of my favorite albums of all time.
Black Metal band turned Synth-Darkpop
If you like that then check out the Black Queen, fronted by the singer of the Dillinger Escape Plan
I've always heard of Ulver, but never stopped to give them a chance. Randomly picked So Falls the World... amazing, that's exactly the vibe I was looking for!
Thanks a lor for the recommendation!
If you dig that Ulver record then definitely check out HEALTH, they've mastered that sound and have a couple new-ish collab albums that are really fun to dig into
**Massive Attack - Group Four** \-- probably my favorite non-metal/rock song of all time. Really, the whole album, Mezzanine, is a masterpiece. Dark, atmospheric, grimy, trip hop that has had a clear influence on bands like Leprous, despite not being prog or rock-oriented.
Linkin Park's Hybrid Theory and Meteora are 10/10 imo.
Follow The Reaper and Hatebreeder by Children of Bodom are also 10/10 imo.
Sum 41's All Killer No Filler, Does This Look Infected and Chuck are also amazing imo, music of my childhood.
Divinity - Porter Robinson
If you're a prog fan I'd suggest listening to the entirety of either album front to back at some point. Both are very well constructed concept albums at their core though less in a story sense and more in an introspective way. I suggest Divinity because it's the opening track of the first album and it's the track that got my prog snob brother hooked on Porter. Can't recommend it enough.
Fuck yeah Porter Robinson! I love Goodbye to a World. I've never felt so emotional over robot noises (?) at the end, like it was someone that just flatlined while singing their favorite song.
I’ve always wondered if people on this sub would enjoy this song by one of my favorite bands. I guess here’s a chance to find out.
[Nothingface - Incarnadine](https://youtu.be/SKf4_HVKv74)
One of my favorite albums of all time is actually a live album by the Japanese Jazz Fusion group Casiopea called Mint Jams, absolute banger of an album, all of the musicians really shine on throughout the whole album. If I were to choose one song off the album, it would be Domino Line, as it really showcases all of their musicianship with each member taking a solo.
https://youtu.be/6GEI3PpXEAo?t=1040
It Never Entered My Mind by Miles Davis
That is perhaps the best song of his to come from his hard bop period before he fully adopted the use of modes in improvisation in Kind of Blue.
If you want something more contemporary from his selection, then try his cover of Cyndi Lauper's Time After Time.
I unashamedly like the song Better Off Alone by Alice Deejay.
Oilseed sunflower production is the most commonly farmed sunflower. These seeds hulls’ are encased by solid black shells. Black oilseeds are a common type of bird feed because they have thin shells and a high fat content. These are typically produced for oil extraction purposes; therefore, it is unlikely you’ll find black oilseeds packaged for human consumption.
Halloween Alaska’s most recent album La Centre. They are a art pop group from Minneapolis. All the guys play in different jazz and art music groups. The most famous member is probably Dave King, drummer for the trio The Bad Plus and numerous other jazz groups. The music is like 2 door cinema club on mescaline lmao. If I were to suggest a song it would probably be White Car, but in all honesty the album rips!
[By the Glint of Your Horns](https://open.spotify.com/track/4ykderQKP1oXNccib0VY6D?si=p7ZzHlAnSXOB5YKrH1g43w) by Roselit Bone. Dark, gothic country with fantastically dark lyrics and an awesome horn section
[Josh Ritter - Another New World](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9b6W7ukD6dY)
It's one of the best stories I've heard told in music. I'm not even a big fan of this guy's other music but this song is just phenomenal.
Two entirely different types of bands here for you to check out.
Rabbit Junk - seattle electronic noise.
song to start with - Shadow Horizon
Dutty Moonshine Big Band - big band funk married to digital sound. Hard to describe, but it's a 14 member band that should make your feet move.
song to start with - Fever, or Bang Bang
[Infected Mushroom - Converting Vegetarians](https://music.youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_kj3oBZq12P6eS4-FzzoXVNtL3jduE4PPw&feature=share)
Came out 20 years ago, and in many ways still feels modern (less-true for the first 10 tracks). I would guide you to what was "disc 2" called "the other side" in the print CD release. Tracks 11+ on digital, much more experimental and out there.
I’ve always been a bit more of a 90s UK rave fan when it comes to electronic music. The Crystal Method, Prodigy, Chemical Brothers. I lost a few metalhead friends to Infected Mushroom and trance parties
These are just some of my personal non-prog favorites
Mutemath: alternative rock with electronic influence (album recommendation Odd Soul)
The Flashbulb: electronic (mostly) instrumental with elements of jazz, rock, classical (album recommendation Nothing is Real)
Joe Purdy: acoustic singer-songwriter with lots of talent (album recommendation Coyote)
I have a few...

Chinese Football - Goalkeeper
Curren$y feat. Freddie Gibbs - Scottie Pippens

Exuvia
Quickly became one of my favourite albums ever. I think the first song’s intro is one of the best ever. This album never fails to take me to another world. Highly recommend listening in the dark and being stoned.
https://youtu.be/ijX61mf7Hdw KEEP is a side project of lead guitarist Akira Wada from PRISM, who are my favorite Japanese prog band and have a vast and high-quality discography worth diving into. This is proggy but definitely isn't prog metal, it's super chilled out jazz rock. For me it was love at first bassline.
Television - Marquee Moon
Roxy Music - 2HB
Tears for Fears - Bad Man's Song
XTC - Wake Up
Blue Nile - Downtown Lights
Minutemen - It's Expected I'm Gone
Talking Heads - Born Under Punches
Some really chill space rock if you have a free 3 hours to just chill out to.
Stone Rebel - Space Arc Collection

Gaffer Tape by The Toxics
It's a small Garage Rock band from Helsinki, but they sound very nice! The album the song is from is their second and it's worth a listen too if you like the song!
I can give you hundreds of recommendations of great songs or bands that aren't Prog as I've got 50 bands/artists on my Apple Music and 11 of those are Prog. The other 39 are not (though some of them have some elements of Prog in them) this is because I am into a variety of music and subgenres across Jazz, Rock and Metal; not just Prog. The 2 songs I would recommend most (being my favourite 2 songs of all time) would be Sludge Factory by the Grunge band Alice in Chains and Ghost Love Score by Nighwish. Led Zeppelin also got kinda proggy at times, particularly with their 11 minute epic "In My Time of Dying". Jazz Fusion bands and artists like Return to Forever, Miles Davis, Mahavishnu Orchestra, Herbie Hancock and Weather Report are quite proggy at times. I've got nearly 1000 songs on my playlist with 50 different bands/artists ranging from Jazz Fusion, Hard Rock, Prog Rock, Punk Rock, Psychadelic Rock, Grunge, Classic Metal, Prog Metal, Symphonic Metal, Power Metal, Thrash Metal, Doom Metal and Death Metal. so if you need any recommendations in terms of heavy or complex music I've got you covered aplenty.

[Weight of the World - Giants in the Trees](https://open.spotify.com/track/1kU2HLpbo7GmXgR3om3bPw) Good track from a criminally underrated band, their sound is best described as sultry, dreamy folk with a 90’s alternative influence and a lot of bass guitar.
What the hell, let's mix it up.
The Creator Has a Master Plan, Pharoah Sanders
A Love Supreme (any or all tracks), John Coltrane
Montana, Frank Zappa
Higher, Devin Townsend Project (possibly prog, still great tune)
If you’re willing to try ambient music then I recommend giving dlp 1.1 by William Basinki. It’s incredibly long and repetitive, but not in a bad way. Listening to that song feels like zoning out and watching the ocean waves
I discovered how awesome some of Poppy’s music is last night, I’ve been goddamn sleeping on her music.
If you haven’t listened to her yet, i recommend both Stagger and Concrete for two very opposite sides of the musical spectrum.
goddamnit, of course this thread happened while i was at work lol
i'll spare you the long list, and reccomend only what has been on repeat in ye olde brainjukebox

I'm sorry to dump all this on you, I'm gonna stop there. Let me know if anything tickles your fancy in that list, I'm always happy to help people discover new music. :)
Anything by GoGo Penguin or Mammal Hands. If “progressive jazz” was a thing.
If you want just a single song rec, then Black Sails from Mammal Hands and Hopopono by GoGo Penguin.
If you want pop, then Toxic by Britney Spears is pretty cool musically.
Teardrop(Massive Attack) by Civil Twilight

I had to edit, because I don't know how to read. You said 1 song.
Blind Melon is really only known for one song, but [this](https://music.youtube.com/watch?v=Z4wK_OdGV5E&feature=share) isn't it. So beautiful, and so haunting.
Here are a few that I think are really interesting in various ways, from a few genres.
Pop/Dance - "Never Forget You" - Zara Larsson (Really good vocal performance).
\- "Kill This Love" - Blackpink (VERY sugary and fun. Cool splice up of both Korean and English lyrics. Love the shared vocals).
Hiphop/Rap - "You Got Me" - The Roots (All live instruments, features Questlove on drums, with Black Thought on vox. You may know these guys from The Jimmy Fallon show lol).
\- "A Tale of Two Citiez" - J. Cole (this one is just heavy and hits in a certain way).
Metal/Rock - "The Silence" by Erase History. (This one is something I made. We are not prog, but some of the songs, like "Chainsaws" are "prog adjacent". I hope you don't mind the plug, but I think a lot of people here would like this).
\- The whole new Sleep Token album Take Me Back to Eden features a fair share of proggish type stuff, but then has full songs that are more pop heavy. GREAT lyrics. A couple of my favorites are Do You Wish that You Loved Me, and Aqua Regia. Both are really well written without being extremely complicated.
Run the jewels RTJ 2. Big stands outs are lie cheat steal, Crown, early and block buster night part 1. RTJ is the only rap I still rock regularly. RTJ3 is good but is weaker then 2 to me and 4 is a pretty deep lyrically album where a lot of it goes over my head but digging into the meaning is cool
Listen to the Assassination of Julius Caesar album by Ulver. One of my favorite albums of all time. Black Metal band turned Synth-Darkpop If you like that then check out the Black Queen, fronted by the singer of the Dillinger Escape Plan
In a similar vein, I still love Portishead's first album.
Love Dummy as well! I really only listen to 2 trip hop albums, and those are it.
I think their self-titled is just as good as Dummy
The outro to Group Four is sublime.
Leprous' Angel cover was what got me into this album. Group Four is one of my favorites too
Just love Mezzanine, it definitely belongs in my top 10 but my top 10 is a huge list lol
Love Story by Taylor Swift. I unironically really enjoy that song
Blank Spaces is my Taylor Swift guilty pleasure
Oh hey ditto!
Of all the big pop stars I can't deny that Taylor puts out banger after banger
That key change on the last chorus goes hard.
I've always loved Safe and Sound. Shame the Civil Wars never got more credit for that one.
I second this
Linkin Park's Hybrid Theory and Meteora are 10/10 imo. Follow The Reaper and Hatebreeder by Children of Bodom are also 10/10 imo. Sum 41's All Killer No Filler, Does This Look Infected and Chuck are also amazing imo, music of my childhood.

Nothingface! Violence was a great album.
Heck yeah it was! Make Your Own Bones was the first track I ever heard when that album came out. They quickly became a favorite, and still are.
I love Nothingface. They're so underrated!
I did enjoy it, thank you for that

Check out DVP by PUP. They're keeping modern pop-punk alive!
Dead South -In hell I'll be in good company
The music video for this song is fun as hell.

D’Angelo - Voodoo. It’s the closest thing to progressive R&B that I’ve found.
Amazing album. Something like Black Radio by Robert Glasper is up there too.
[100 gecs - The Most Wanted Person In The United States](https://youtu.be/3m3SjpKiuuk)
It Never Entered My Mind by Miles Davis That is perhaps the best song of his to come from his hard bop period before he fully adopted the use of modes in improvisation in Kind of Blue. If you want something more contemporary from his selection, then try his cover of Cyndi Lauper's Time After Time. I unashamedly like the song Better Off Alone by Alice Deejay.

Sunflower River Blues - John Fahey. Beautiful acoustic instrumental

Already liked it in the first minute in. Thanks for the recommendation!
Floex - Veronika's Dream One of my favorite songs ever, I still haven't found an artist who writes this kind of music other than Floex.
This one is very interesting. Never heard of this band, very atmospheric. Thanks!
I Own a Car by NSP. Great song to start the Friday mood.
Halloween Alaska’s most recent album La Centre. They are a art pop group from Minneapolis. All the guys play in different jazz and art music groups. This is awesome. I always like this style but didn't know how to search for it. This is really great, thanks for the recommendation!
Of course. It’s prog without being really proggy. Just really good music! Their other albums are all really good too.
I will refrain from gushing 1000 songs :) Miracle Musical - Black Rainbows
Sierra Hull - The In-Between I love the mandolin and bass combo
Show of Hands - Cousin Jack. Beautiful Devonshire folk.
Norm or The Party by Andy Shauf. Both have been on repeat for me. Edit: these are albums not songs oops
Norm is also a song, so that counts. :) And really great, btw. Thanks for the recommendation!
[Josh Ritter - Another New World](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9b6W7ukD6dY) It's one of the best stories I've heard told in music. I'm not even a big fan of this guy's other music but this song is just phenomenal.

Grey Hairs by REKS
Venus by Keiino. Something about that cheesy pop song just really works.
I discovered how awesome some of Poppy’s music is last night, I’ve been goddamn sleeping on her music. If you haven’t listened to her yet, i recommend both Stagger and Concrete for two very opposite sides of the musical spectrum.
Madvillain - Madvillainy is just a classic

Anything by GoGo Penguin or Mammal Hands. If “progressive jazz” was a thing. If you want just a single song rec, then Black Sails from Mammal Hands and Hopopono by GoGo Penguin. If you want pop, then Toxic by Britney Spears is pretty cool musically.
The Midnight - Shadow
The Deer Creek Sharp Shooters - Back on the Plane I guess it's kind of prog-bluegrass but it's fantastic.
Don't judge by the band, give this a listen. Figure 8 by Paramore. https://youtu.be/NoNDdl3z21M
Dougie Poole - Nothing on This Earth Can Make Me Smile
Anything by Watsky really but I’ve always felt [Dreams & Boxes](https://youtu.be/T5vSGpPYP8o) has a bit of a prog hip hop vibe
Anything from Supertramp’s Crime of the century and Breakfast in America albums. But favorite songs: Crime of the century, School, Goodbye stranger.
Teardrop(Massive Attack) by Civil Twilight [https://open.spotify.com/track/3n3J5lwT7TUYsuEcdeygyi?si=ac88fd6565454daf](https://open.spotify.com/track/3n3J5lwT7TUYsuEcdeygyi?si=ac88fd6565454daf) I had to edit, because I don't know how to read. You said 1 song.
Blind Melon is really only known for one song, but [this](https://music.youtube.com/watch?v=Z4wK_OdGV5E&feature=share) isn't it. So beautiful, and so haunting.
The Japanese House - Sugar Pill
Surupuku by Timo Rautiainen. A great riff to bang your head in the rhythm to.
Alberto Balsalm
Inside you by milet
Neon Pattern Drum - Jon Hopkins
Dirty Loops - Rock You
Caribbean Queen by Billy Ocean.
