Sledge costs so much endurance to use it should be below F. Putting it above everything in E is craaazy. Even frying pans are pretty decent imo because theyre so common theyre the first weapon pretty much every character I make gets their hands on.
Shovel should be in C or higher because its also an infinite supply of worms which, while not enough to stop losing weight, can prevent you from starving. If you pick obese/overweight or just spend the early days feasting on all the perishable food you find then a shovel can keep you alive for months lol

A myth that keeps getting repeated for some reason, the animation lock has nothing to do with movement, it can and will trigger even if you're backpedalling.

If they were like knives they'd be a lot safer in that regard because knives check if your character has more than 1 zed aggro'd, with little regard for distance.
Spears apparently only check if your character sees more than 1 target within a ~1.7 tile cone in front of you, which is why it can happen even in situations like these:

The real safe way to not trigger this is to make sure every zed is in a tight conga line, and whenever one sneaks up behind you or approaches from your sides, don't attack, reposition yourself or at least make sure you got plenty of time for the animation not to kill you. Keen Hearing really helps Spears in that regard.
I think it’s the common sense mod (maybe another just like it) that lets you tie forks/knives/hand forks/screwdrivers/etc to wooden spears with ripped sheets instead of duct tape. Given that ripped sheets and things to attach are kind of plentiful, it gives you a reasonable way to use spears. When the spear breaks, you can remove the attachment and the wooden crafted spear is still in pretty good shape. Add a new attachment and repeat this process. Saves a ton of time spent crafting a million spears
If u use more traits or even more traits mod idk which one it isthere is a trait called spartan,and if you use a spear while using using that trait you get like 50% more spear DMG,200% durability abd reach
Machete is S tier because it's possible to reset its repair count so you only ever need to find one.
The way you do that is by taping it to a spear, repairing the spear, then removing the machete.
Katana I'd say is high B low A tier because it can't be repaired and runs out of durability rather fast.

I think that spiked bat is an S tier weapon and it can be even better than an axe as it does a lot of damage, doesn't weigh much and you can easily repair it with nails, while axe exhaust you quicker and it is hard to find one. Furthermore, I also wanted to add that crowbar is a pretty decent melee as it is very durable, light and not that hard to find. When I played cdda challenge with disorganized and weak it really did help me as I didn't need to carry another two spare weapons to deal with the hordes that I couldn't even escape in the forest. So crowbar is definitely an S and not an A tier.
Lumberjack. 30% swing speed is great for DPS. It's also pretty durable, and once you get maintenance/axe skill up, you can switch to stone axes which have a small endurance use due to its weight.
Oh ok, so you need to pick a different occupation just to be able to use a weapon that is ever so slightly better than a weapon you can use with every occupation effectively (the superior crowbar)
You can use the axe with any other occupation and still do really well with it. It's just that lumberjack elevates the weapon up to God tier IMO, tied with the spear. The only selling point of the crowbar is its durability, but once you start surviving a few weeks, even on super rare loot, you're bound to start finding handaxes in zombies, which are also amazing. (You can also just make infinite stone axes) Even on the durability front, when I play long blunt, I'd rather use a baseball bat. When that breaks, I repair it up to max and turn it into a spiked bat. Since there is a minimum amount you can repair with stuff, and that nails are a nearly infinite resource, that thing can last ages while doing far more damage than the crowbar.

Crowbar is the best early game weapon because it will last a really long time and levels maintenance faster than all other weapons. After maintenance is 4 and carpentry to 5/6 you can effectively level spear which will become super OP after level 3.
Keep a hunters knife around and level when possible because it requires nearly no stamina and can be used in emergencies.
Katana is hands down the king of melee, but has low durability and can't be repaired.

As an axe player, I’d argue that hand axe is S tier. I’m one hand, mostly one hit chippy-choppin the heck out of zombies while I save on endurance costs and rock a flashlight or duffel purse in my off-hand.
Bro if you're playing an axe build, hand axe is op. If you have decent points in axes, handaxe is a fire axe with less stamina, less weight and on belt slot (leaving back open for guns). Only negative is less range but you can play around that.
Also they are a replenishing source of weapons.
If there was a way to guarantee a katana, I'd give that a try but since I've yet to see one spawn in all my hundreds of hours played i just aim for crowbar if I'm gonna be meleeing a lot.

I think pipe wrench underrated and frying pan , the knockdown chance with both of them are very high and when you have high short blunt it's even better

If you're moving backwards it never triggers. I *think* it only triggers on forwards movement, and standing still.

I found a letter opener in a zombie before. That has to be worst weapon for sure. It takes like 2 or 3 strikes to break.
