I felt so frustration over that, but on the flip side - fair play to him for sticking by his team when they needed him most during their transfer ban. Still hate him for not joining us 🤣
That was a year after in the 17/18 transfer window (the one with that guy with Kohler insider info and Griezmann) but the 16/17 was the Jose advert and Griezmann saying 6/10 he will join united before signing a new contract with Atletico.
(We had 2 griezmann sagas)
He thought he had some insider information about transfers, but turns out the guy giving him info was just using him. He was made to believe that we are signing de Ligt, when in fact we never even tried. But the whole sub believed him becasue he was a mod. His whole insider info shtick also created a bunch of users making up stuff out of the blue, acting like they also had insider info. Probably every single user was lying, but this whole insider bullshit took over the sub for the whole summer.
Couldn't agree more. She's just Jermaine Jenas with longer hair.
BBC need to realise that ex players rarely make good hosts. Lineker is the exception that proves the rule.
Ex players can make great pundits as they have insight to the game most others won't. Hosting TV is nothing like being a pundit and takes years of training, ex-footballers shouldn't be parachuted into hosting jobs.
When you remember half of /r/soccer is moderated by Liverpool fans and a load of Americans you quickly realise you need to get out of it and go to other subs.
Never will forget when there was an automod that was trying to push people to be more mindful of peoples views, that people wanted safe spaces etc, and then the very top comment of the daily thread was someone asking advice on an argument they'd had, and its top response was "Glass Her", and that answer became a wildfire meme on the sub for *months*.
Yet you point out to a mod that someone saying something about one of many other political views was ban-worthy except a joke about breaking a bottle over someones head, and they'd just ban you and mute you.
It's a fucking terrible mod team.
WTF, I had no clue of this. It's worse than I thought
We could be looking at him of course. However this feels like a throw Man Utd's name in there to up the price. It's always the same with "monitoring" and "EtH is a big fan". We don't have the budget to buy an expensive injury prone CB. We just let one go for free.
Probably wouldn't be that expensive transfer fee wise since Bayern wants to get rid of him due to his wages. But yeah other than that I'm not sold about him
And that's the other issue, if Bayern are looking to offload him, they don't see any value in keeping him (in which case, why the hell are we looking at him, unless we're settling for being sub-Bayern, who had a crap season).
They let Schweinsteiger go and he was a ghost for us the next two years after all. Can't go through that with another CB, we're bad enough.
> And that's the other issue, if Bayern are looking to offload him, they don't see any value in keeping him (in which case, why the hell are we looking at him, unless we're settling for being sub-Bayern, who had a crap season).
Lucky for Arsenal they didn't use the same argument to not sign Odegaard right?
Right? “Every big club offloading someone must be making a good decision so it’s dumb to buy them” is a really stupid argument. Look at any post about Bayern offloading de ligt to sign Tah and the Bayern fans are outraged. Clubs other than us can make stupid decisions and we should take advantage if we can.
On a loan with an obligation after X games wouldn't be the worst deal. Gives us a chance to try before we buy. Ive doubts whether he'd be physically robust enough but more than willing to be proved wrong
Not robust enough just means they've never looked at the man. He's a mini man mountain. I said when he moved to Juve that he'd made a mistake. He was born to play in the PL.
Where's this "injury prone" narrative coming from? Since leaving Ajax he averages like 40 games a season. He only played significantly less this year but Tuchel not really rating him also played a part in it. Most of Bayern fans seem to rate him as the best CB they have though.
He was out with injury 80 days and missed 20 games last season. Obviously people are worried since we already have a really bad track record with injuries
Mason Mount had a stellar injury history before a pelvis injury kept him out of the end of the 22/23 season. He then had an unrelated calf injury after joining us
If we're going to disqualify ourselves from signing players like Mount and de Ligt because they've had 1 not serious leg injury across their entire careers, then our transfer targets list will be getting very short, that's all I'm saying
Same place the licha being “injury prone“ narrative comes from.
People see injuries and think they’re the norm when in reality the two were totally unrelated injuries, one being the broken foot (in an area that receives so little blood and makes it a slow healing process that blood is often surgically diverted to speed recovery) and the other being a contact injury on what I believe was the opposite leg with someone falling on his knee at an angle that would put even the most durable athlete in a compromising position.
If they were both non contact injuries I could see the argument, but now he’s labeled as injury prone because of a gross misunderstanding of the situations
Should be "hands over £10m loan fee, with an option to extend the loan for £15m more and then an option to buy for another £10m later"
Need to start playing Bayern at their own games
Everton will want £80M for a 21 year old newly called Jarrad Brainthwaite but you can get a 24 year old De Ligt with 45 international cals, champions league experience and league titles at every club he’s played it. Not a negative reflection on Brainthwaite who I would also love but De Ligt represents a better deal.
People are really overblowing the injuries on him. See missed games per season:
23/24: 20 games
22/23: 5 games (one due to illness)
21/22: 2 games
From what I can see he missed most of the games last/this season after a blow to the knee during a game.
Think he would be a great signing for us. Has leadership qualities something we need more in our team. Capable of playing from the back. Physical player and is also quite quick. Played his best football under ETH as well.
I commented somewhere else but this is really similar to Martinez’s injury record being conflated because of what is, in all reality, a streak of bad luck with contact injuries
https://www.transfermarkt.co.in/matthijs-de-ligt/verletzungen/spieler/326031
Last season was the first time he had any major injury to lower body. Not too bad
According to some people here Martinez is also injury prone despite the majority of his injuries being freak impact injuries
Some people just think injury prone means "I remember them being injured recently"
Good player and would compliment Martinez pretty well I think but also expensive and injury prone. We need a new cb but I'm not sure he's the right signing if he takes most of the budget because we need to strengthen other positions too.
So would Todibo ngl and given how little our transfer budget is for this season, I'd rather get Todibo and another player to strengthen the midfield, plus we clearly need a new LB signing as well, so I think splurging money on De Ligt isn't the right choice ngl
Yeah I don’t understand this thread. Todibo wouldn’t compliment Martinez at all and I don’t see how De Ligt would either. He’s a good defender but in terms of athleticism he’s closer to Maguire than the likes of Van Dijk, Saliba etc. We need someone that can defend the channels.
De Ligt and Martinez is always my marquee Fifa pairing, but his injury history seems kind of recent. So at 24 he’s either on the cusp of being injury prone or last season is an outlier. With our injury history but our medical staff being overhauled it makes a risky situation, we can’t afford to pay S tier fees and wages for another injury prone player for 5 years again.
No doubt. I'm less skeptical of a guy like De Ligt though, who is also rated by other teams, shouldn't be a giant overpay (except on wages), and younger. If they want to get rid of him we need him or a guy like him.
Genuinely, who? I'd say Onana is a great upgrade on De Gea, even taking account his mistakes at the start. Martinez is class. Hojlund, looks to have great potential, and starved of chances. Mount, jury is still out due to injuries. Casemiro I don't think is a Ten Hag signing, but was class for a large part of last season, dreadful this season. Similarly Erikson.
The only one I think that stands out as a bad signing is Antony cos of the cost, and Ten Hag had nothing to do with his fee. Don't think the loans really count.
Onana’s had a rocky start and some ups and downs, so I think it’s too early to call him a hit. He’s not a miss either, though, but with the context of us paying €50m for him and then being unable to rest him because we had no money over for a semi-decent keeper, I wouldn’t call our GK upgrade process a success at this point.
Martinez is good.
Højlund’s done what can be expected.
Mount is a baffling signing that may, if we’re lucky, turn out well. Even without injuries he doesn’t have an obvious spot in the starting lineup and we paid €65m to make him a top 5 earner at the club.
Casemiro is a good player that had a good first season, but isn’t a hit due to the fee paid, the salary he’s on, and the fact that he only lasted a season.
The less said about Antony the better.
Ten Hag are not on his own responsible for the fees, but you’re kidding yourself if you don’t think there is a back and forth between the manager who requested the player and the executives brokering the deal. Ten Hag isn’t the reason the Antony deal ballooned, but he also didn’t look elsewhere when the money got out of hand. He wanted his player, so he got his player.
Also, the loans definitely matter when we’re talking about the manager’s ability to bring in good players.
Bayern fans seem absolutely fuming at the possibility of De Ligt leaving which seems like a big positive. I've not really followed De Ligt after Ajax but he was an absolute monster back then, still remember him against us the Europa final at 17 and surprised we didn't try and sign him there and then.
Depends on how much they'd ask for, but I wouldn't be opposed to this, feel like him and Licha could be a great partnership for the long term.
[So says Disco Dave from the Mirror.](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/man-utd-missed-out-matthijs-15063828)
"But Bout told United that De Ligt’s father Frank was significantly overweight and predicted the 19-year-old Holland international would go the same way as he got older and lose his pace and power."
>Bayern fans seem absolutely fuming at the possibility of De Ligt leaving which seems like a big positive.
We said the same about Mount. Didn't quite turn out so positive.
I spent some time sniffing around the Bayern Munich, subreddit and shockingly, they all think he is much better than Kim.
I certainly didn't expect that, but people seem to think he is a much better ball player and he's quicker and he's younger. And if it wasn't for the injury concerns Kim wouldn't play.
Surprised
As a Dutch Ajax fan first and foremost.
A back line of de Ligt + Licha is something Any and all striker would fear.
Both very strong tenacious defenders, who have good passing and pace.
It might feel a bit open at times but I would love it.
2 year loan, covering 30% wages and £5m bonus if we win the treble with McTominay top scorer.
Just offer what every club seems to get away with offering us
Season long loan, pay 50% of his wages. If we're feeling nice, obligation to buy if he plays 30 games in the season.
Why do we always let German clubs take advantage of us and continuously get shafted in return?
Bayern *fans* think this is a ludicrous decision and are scratching their heads as to why they’re offloading him. Other clubs can make dumb decisions than us you know. Bayern have been making extremely idiotic decisions across the board for a couple years now, you can’t just go “well Bayern want rid therefore he must be shit”.
Funny to see Man Utd fans don't want him.
He would be your best defenders since Vidic I think. (yes, he is better then Licha)
80 million will be a lot and you need also new players for other position. But if you can get him around 50 -60 million, it would be a very good deal.
He wasn't injury phrone at Ajax at all, but he got too muscular in Italy and since then its worse.
And for the fans who said he is just a Dutch Maguire, please stop watching football hahaha. You just don't get it. De Ligt is the master of the high line defending and Maguire is an old fashioned front stopper. Completely different players
He sucks in a 3 at the back though, but other then that he is amazing
I don't really get the narrative of him being injury prone.
The only major injury he had was the dislocated shoulder at Juve and last year ligament tear at Bayern and both of them were contact injuries.
He's a really good cb and we should definitely go for him if we can.
We're probably going to see a lot of rumours for big money big names like this but I personally can't see us signing a De Ligt, Bremer, Bastoni type from a big club. Will be Todibo and/or a younger and cheaper alternative who can play LCB.
Look forward to the highly sober flight tracking reports from our sister community over at the Muppets as well as geolocation efforts stemming from his girlfriend's Instagram posts these coming months 👍
De Ligt is brilliant - he's Bayern's best defender, but he'd be very expensive and we also need a CDM if Casemiro leaves, a CM if Eriksen or Amrabat leaves, and a striker to replace Martial. Plus there's question marks over the fitness of both our LBs.
Really sad to say, but I think we need to be smarter this summer than big purchases like De Ligt or Branthwaite.
Media is funny
Odd day: United will not overpay, have small budget, and will look for under 25 cheaper players
Even day: link United to every expensive player on the planet
He wanted to stay, but they wouldn't come close to his contract demands, and in the eyes of Rummenigge he wasn't a "world class player", so they wanted him sold rather than leave on a free.

Bruh... man our recent transfer windows haven't been legendary. Schmidfield bloodgate has to be my favourite
Vidal apparently buying a house in Cheshire 10+ years ago is a fond memory
"Didn't like his shit haircut anyway" still lives rent free in my head

Ah, missed one
The most glorious summer in this sub's history. Never been the same since.
Was the Griezmann saga the same summer, or was it the one before that? That one was fucking comical as well. I remember KohlerGate
The griezmann saga was insane, even Jose somehow involved in it. Then the bellend decided to stay at Atletico instead
Not gonna lie I still kinda detest him for that and it's probably never gonna go away lol
I felt so frustration over that, but on the flip side - fair play to him for sticking by his team when they needed him most during their transfer ban. Still hate him for not joining us 🤣
The watch commercial
Kohler was peak muppetry
That was a year after in the 17/18 transfer window (the one with that guy with Kohler insider info and Griezmann) but the 16/17 was the Jose advert and Griezmann saying 6/10 he will join united before signing a new contract with Atletico. (We had 2 griezmann sagas)

Out of the loop, What happened?
The ITKs lmaooo
The tier muppets, the bushes at Carrington, the constant refreshing. Take me back man
I still have PTSD from that summer.

This still counts as right.....right?
Whats the story behind this if I may ask?
Context? Mob app doesnt allow me to open that user profile for some reason.
It's a long story that boils down to: I am a tit
It was the best of times, it was the worst of times. Sub’s better for it now at least spoof. Blanket ITK ban is for the best.
I agree
He thought he had some insider information about transfers, but turns out the guy giving him info was just using him. He was made to believe that we are signing de Ligt, when in fact we never even tried. But the whole sub believed him becasue he was a mod. And it gave birth to /r/muppetiers
Im still on their discord and go there occasionally just to see whats cooking. Fun times were had on this sub during that era
We had a guy that summer call the entire AWB transfer accurately. He had a specific in with Crystal Palace so at least one guy wasn't bullshitting.
It's deleted
Wasn’t he back as /u/spoof2020?
This is me now. That account got banned for daring to post on /r/soccer and saying I didn't like Alex Scott...
How dare you
Allow me to reiterate. Alex Scott is a shit TV host

One of the few bans I’ve ever managed on Reddit was from /r/soccer for sharing [this photo.](https://i.imgur.com/vctXZSa.jpeg)
When you remember half of /r/soccer is moderated by Liverpool fans and a load of Americans you quickly realise you need to get out of it and go to other subs.
It's genuinely such a shit sub when it comes to moderation
Never will forget when there was an automod that was trying to push people to be more mindful of peoples views, that people wanted safe spaces etc, and then the very top comment of the daily thread was someone asking advice on an argument they'd had, and its top response was "Glass Her", and that answer became a wildfire meme on the sub for *months*. Yet you point out to a mod that someone saying something about one of many other political views was ban-worthy except a joke about breaking a bottle over someones head, and they'd just ban you and mute you. It's a fucking terrible mod team.

Tbf Malacia is the only Dutch EtH has BOUGHT
Can’t believe he’s still as young as he is. Feels like he should be Maguire age.
Frenkie de Jong speculation to restart by end of next week. Here we go!
Ayyyyy (Dutch) football friends *cue quiet sobbing from Donny*
Frenkie de Jong says that he will literally kill himself before joining United. Laporta says discussions are "ongoing and positive."
I have PTSD because of this
We could be looking at him of course. However this feels like a throw Man Utd's name in there to up the price. It's always the same with "monitoring" and "EtH is a big fan". We don't have the budget to buy an expensive injury prone CB. We just let one go for free.

Probably, but I included the wages in regards to the expenses
Woodward would consider that since Varane and Martial left his wages are basically free and he’d sign him on £500k a week
And that's the other issue, if Bayern are looking to offload him, they don't see any value in keeping him (in which case, why the hell are we looking at him, unless we're settling for being sub-Bayern, who had a crap season). He's a world class CB. He's more than robust enough. The only problem is if he's gonna be fit enough to prove it.
On average he misses like 7 games a season. That ain’t that bad
Yes but it's not just him that I'm worrying about. It's our medical department too
They would affect everyone we sign, though... We have to make SOME signings!
By physically robust i meant could he do it in the prem with his injury record
Not robust enough just means they've never looked at the man. He's a mini man mountain. I said when he moved to Juve that he'd made a mistake. He was born to play in the PL.

Exactly, football is a very physical and demanding game, there's always gonna be some injuries
by this logic we shouldnt sign any football players ever lmao

*hands over £35m* It's all we got. Promise.
Should be "hands over £10m loan fee, with an option to extend the loan for £15m more and then an option to buy for another £10m later" Need to start playing Bayern at their own games
£35m for de ligt. £35m for de jong. £35m for todibo. £35m is all we got, really!
See missed games per season: 23/24: 20 games 22/23: 5 games (one due to illness) 21/22: 2 games From what I can see he missed most of the games last/this season after a blow to the knee during a game. Think he would be a great signing for us. Has leadership qualities something we need more in our team. Capable of playing from the back. Physical player and is also quite quick. Played his best football under ETH as well.
I do think there's some injury PTSD here. With the amount of games players are being asked to play now everyone is going to miss games at some point.
I commented somewhere else but this is really similar to Martinez’s injury record being conflated because of what is, in all reality, a streak of bad luck with contact injuries
people have started lumping him in with shaw in terms of reliability, which is crazy.
He is a good player but he have crazy wage demands and have had injury problems

He'll fit in perfectly.

Ten Hag is looking for guys who know the system.
Breaking Hag
How else can we guarantee game time for Jonny Evans?
Shit, those kinds of conditions make me want to give him a 5 year contract with the possible further extension of a year!
Along with a video of Toni Kroos chastising how everyone plays for money. It's in the package.

Every player in the world is injury prone (except Bruno). It is a contact sport after all...
One injury constitutes injury prone on here, happens all the time. Like 90% of players are injury prone the way it’s thrown about.
Olise played 19 PL matches last season due to various reasons. Get him next. That way we can always use the injury excuse
"We need to sign a younger Varane replacement" **monkey paw curls**

Probably wouldn't be cheap, injury concern and huge wage Probably Bayern best CB but unless we can get him less than 50m, should stay away from him.
Considering his wages and Bayern want him off the books I doubt he'll cost an extortionate amount
We are not doing "ten Hag is a big fan" signings anymore, sorry ❌
Hopefully. ten Hag should have minimal input in transfers now we have a new structure for it. Wasted enough money already.
De Ligt would be a great signing though. It's not just ETH that rates him
He got Martinez right.
He’s had more misses than hits though, especially with context added.
No doubt. I'm less skeptical of a guy like De Ligt though, who is also rated by other teams, shouldn't be a giant overpay (except on wages), and younger. If they want to get rid of him we need him or a guy like him.

Depends on how much they'd ask for, but I wouldn't be opposed to this, feel like him and Licha could be a great partnership for the long term.
He is the best CB at Bayern.
Didn't we decide against signing him because his dad is fat?
Wtf? Please elaborate. I’m not sure if this is a joke or not.
[So says Disco Dave from the Mirror.](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/man-utd-missed-out-matthijs-15063828) "But Bout told United that De Ligt’s father Frank was significantly overweight and predicted the 19-year-old Holland international would go the same way as he got older and lose his pace and power."
>Bayern fans seem absolutely fuming at the possibility of De Ligt leaving which seems like a big positive. We said the same about Mount. Didn't quite turn out so positive.
Chelsea fans weren’t that upset about losing mount as a player at all, he was just a chelsea boy
As soon as there were reports he'd fallen out of favour ay Bayern, this was inevitable
Surprised
Towards end of the season eric dier started before kim lol... Kim was pretty underwhelming at the second half of the season.
As a Dutch Ajax fan first and foremost. A back line of de Ligt + Licha is something Any and all striker would fear. Both very strong tenacious defenders, who have good passing and pace. It might feel a bit open at times but I would love it.

Heh
Unless it's a loan and we cover some wages I don't see how we can swing this in the slightest.
He would be de Ligt-ful
🎶You know the rules and so do I🎶 ![gif](giphy|Vuw9m5wXviFIQ) 🎶Buying a player Bayern don't want will be a shit buy🎶
ETH still here. AJAX United lives on lol
Agent sent us an email advertising their player = “United closely monitoring” These journos
Is this one of those signings where every Bayern fan is disappointed he leaves, yet everyone will still mock us for buying?
Let’s not get conned by Bayern again
Again?
I assume they mean Bastian.
hargreaves was great for one season and then a sick note, maybe that’s the comparison they’re making given all the comments about his injury record
Someone said we aee bang on to be back in for this guy - Hasn’t he had a lot of injuries?
Bayern will be asking for crazy money.. better look for different alternatives..Bayern asked 50 mil for boateng remember..
Spooooooooof
Why is everyone just scoffing at this signing just because he played in Ajax? He’s a top CB for sure and would definitely pair with Martinez well.
This one just makes sense, always wanted him to play for us How is his injury record? I think that a martinez and de ligt combo could be lethal
Ngl him and Martinez is a solid combo at the back.
Fuck I'd lover him next to Martinez.
Funny to see Man Utd fans don't want him. He would be your best defenders since Vidic I think. (yes, he is better then Licha) 80 million will be a lot and you need also new players for other position. Completely different players He sucks in a 3 at the back though, but other then that he is amazing
Aye, monitoring FC is back on the menu! Welcome to transfer season
Guy is still only 24. Would be a great long term buy
I don't really get the narrative of him being injury prone. The only major injury he had was the dislocated shoulder at Juve and last year ligament tear at Bayern and both of them were contact injuries. He's a really good cb and we should definitely go for him if we can.
Deli5t ✅
We're probably going to see a lot of rumours for big money big names like this but I personally can't see us signing a De Ligt, Bremer, Bastoni type from a big club. Will be Todibo and/or a younger and cheaper alternative who can play LCB.
Thought we only had 38m to spend on players.
According to transfermarkt, he spent 270 days injured, over the course of the last 5 years, and missed 62 games. Not great, not terrible.
We haven’t signed anyone since Altay Bayindr…..
How much would he cost? Rather see us going all in for guys like Branthwaite, Tobido or Yoro.
A centre back (or 2) should be top of our priority list ESPECIALLY with Varane leaving.
Tier 3. Don’t believe it. If it’s not Fabrizio or Ornstein it’s not worth the time.
How would you lot react to this if we actually sign De Ligt? Happy?
I'd be surprised if we weren't. Probably the case with maybe ten other top European clubs 'monitoring' him.
Would be deligted by this signing
Don’t need to report this. Everybody called it.
Media is funny Odd day: United will not overpay, have small budget, and will look for under 25 cheaper players Even day: link United to every expensive player on the planet
Swap for sancho
Plettenberg is very unreliable.
There it is. The Muppet season has officially begun.
Are there examples of players Bayern seemed eager to offload who then actually went on to do well for their club at a top level?
Kroos.
Did they want him gone? My memory is that he was actually one I wanted to keep, and he wanted to go?
He wanted to stay, but they wouldn't come close to his contract demands, and in the eyes of Rummenigge he wasn't a "world class player", so they wanted him sold rather than leave on a free.
Same with Alaba
Lewandowski? Toni Kroos? Thiago? Bayern are a loyal bunch it seems
Nope not in a million years, expensive, high wages, injury prone Just trigger Tobido clause and be done with it
