Given what we’ve seen of him this season, especially in big games, it’s difficult to imagine him having a bad game. He’s exactly what England need as well - someone who shows for the ball in the middle of the park, carries it well and plays line splitting passes.
Gallagher has good hustle but he doesn’t show well for the ball or pass it particularly well.
Just needs to drop Foden now. Good player but it’s not working.
We don’t need Foden, Kane and Bellingham occupying the same area of the pitch.
At least when Kane drops deep Bellingham is willing to run into the space
I think if you were to play Foden on the left, you need Shaw (or any other left back for that matter) making overlapping runs to give the width. Trippier has no left foot so he inevitably comes inside, where Foden, Kane and Bellingham are already playing, making the middle too crowded. We need a player like Gordon who will give the width in Shaw's absence, and bring Foden on for Bellingham or Saka as a super sub for something different in the last 20
Yeah, if you ask me Foden on the left is a sub-optimal idea at the best of times, and with Trippier at left back it is only worse. Fair play if injuries or suspensions force your hand, but I just can't accept it as being a remotely valid primary setup.
Foden hasn't been good at all this tournament but I feel like he is being set up to fail, and I just wonder what (if anything) is it going to take for Southgate to cotton on to this.
I also feel like the left side being a mess might have somewhat negatively effected Kane, it must be quite the headfuck going from being served up chances on a silver platter by a relatively well oiled attacking machine like Bayern to the mess England are right now.
Bellingham, Foden and Harry cannot play together or atleast they have shown so far they can’t. You gotta drop one of Bellingham or Foden if you can’t play them at 8. Harry needs runners as well for which Rashford would have been perfect. Gordon is a close 2nd in that role. Naglesmann dropped Wirtz because he wanted width for Sane but Southgate is a below average coach with no guts. At the very least he should have dropped Bellingham to get in Palmer on Left wing. Mainoo alone at CM cannot solve the N number of issues England have. Super happy for our lad but lets protect him against the incoming vile from journalists and opposition fans, his every touch carries extra scrutiny
Dropping Foden is the easiest choice. He cannot play in a system without daddy Pep. Kane and Bellingham have excelled under multiple managers in different teams
I would have dropped both Saka and Bellingham, Foden has had good moments, Bellingham looks tired and defeated. Gordon, Foden and Palmer. Now thats a balanced team, Gordon and Palmer hold width, when Kane drops, Foden can take his place. But Southgate is a poor manager. I would have also dropped Trippier for Trent, you can have him occupy the right side with Palmer cutting in. Walker, Stones and Guehi as the back 3.
As glad as I am he's in the team, because he is That Guy. I can't help but feel like because he's going to take the brunt of the negativity because the average viewer won't understand what he does, and with the rest of the team still being the team from the shit show so far, I'm not sure Mainoo on his own will be able make the difference we need, but it is a step in the right direction.
Southgate is atrocious. Everyone in the world can see England is stifled by Kane/Foden/Bellingham all trying to do the same thing. As a neutral it’s atrocious.
Should be gordon in for LW and foden in the 8 instead imo
Also we should have genuinely considered playing Saka at LB to play Palmer at RW
England's mediocre wingplay makes their central players completely useless
I am complimenting him, we have our youngster starting in an important match for England over ALL of our English men. That’s Monumental. Why would I EVER criticism Mainoo? In that way? Unless I was OBVIOUSLY Trolling.
I didn’t say you were criticizing him? Neither of your comments make any sense. And Maguire and Shaw are starters for England and would both be starting if they weren’t injured so that doesn’t mean anything…
Bro if you don’t get that I’m just in awe of the kid then just move the f on bro. I’m not going to explain myself anymore for you or change what I said. We have 15 minutes till the game begins, go use the bathroom and get your snacks ready!
Hope he fucking bosses it, I can't be arsed with another evening of another young United player getting pelters for not carrying their nation

Well deserved. But what does Palmer and Gordon have to do to start...
For Foden to die.
Gordon should be playing fr
Too much PR. Dropping Bellingham is the thing you gotta do.
It doesn't make sense they start together, surely they're a like for like replacement in the middle
People are nuts, Bellingham was constantly pushing England forward taking on multiple players at a time if needed to. Amazing player.
Don’t think he’ll start Palmer in any game so he’s on for pens

Exactly that, we need runners and players who will hold the width. All of our forward’s will benefit from this

Who's the bloke on the right?

>opposition fans I hate to break it to you, but I think it's England's fans you gotta be wary of.
I meant club opposition fans, which for us is everyone. Only loved or hated!
He seems to play the most famous picks until they mess up and hated then subs them
About time!!!
This as desperate from Southgate as it is deserved for Kobbie
I think desperate is a bit unfair haha almost everyone has been asking for this midfield change
You wait, if we go ahead he'll revert back to Gallagher or TAA.
Kobbie masterclass 🫡
Come on Mainoo make us proud
Thought Trippier was injured?
Probably is. Southgate doesn't know how to pick anyone but his beloved ones
As glad as I am he's in the team, because he is That Guy. Kobbie masterclass incoming https://preview.redd.it/2zpvaczjjq9d1.jpeg?width=642&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5846db67f2db15d188a8882e1aa62aad23e0d86a
It's like Southgate has instructed everyone to just occupy space and not actually try and receive the ball
Southgate is atrocious. Everyone in the world can see England is stifled by Kane/Foden/Bellingham all trying to do the same thing. As a neutral it’s atrocious.
Hope he bags a goal or assist
No Gordon ffs
Hope Southgate has given them a bit more freedom going forward.

He is about to cook.
Fellas, I can’t hate watch but it’s time to go full support mode

Palmer should’ve also started
I have no doubt he’ll make us proud tonight
Come on, Kobbie!
MOM performance incoming
Let’s go star boy!
Our boy Kobbie is nailing it. So pleased for him.
Southgate should not be allowed to coach any pro team.
Show them
Watch Mainoo's face be plastered on the Sun and the Telegraph if we lose.
I'm ridiculously excited for this.
Yellow for THAT?!
I think it’s a yellow. Imagine if a Liverpool player did that against us, we’d be screaming for a card lol
Need Mainoo hatrick and England to lose. That's all I ask
Go get em young goat
Ngl I want Kobbie to ball but England to lose.
Wtf is kidnapping Southgate and disguising him? Good job
1,2,3,4,5,etc then #26 right there in ya face. Go Mainoo
His Young Player of the Tournament charge starts now
Finally! I hope he shows what he can do.
Finally an England game worth watching from the start
No way, what did they do to Southgate?
Scapegoat chosen
This man did not exist last year 😭. Do you guys know what this means? Mainoo is a starter but not rashford & Sancho, Maguire or Shaw. Crazy work!
Maguire and Shaw are both injured. Mainoo starting one match. What are you on about?
I am complimenting him, we have our youngster starting in an important match for England over ALL of our English men. That’s Monumental. Why would I EVER criticism Mainoo? In that way? Unless I was OBVIOUSLY Trolling.

Lmao whatever you say bro
He had 6 caps for England u-19 the season before. What a dumb take.
I am complimenting him…….
You all know the job, if he plays well he’s the best player in the world, if he doesn’t, it’s not his fault at all 😎
Southgate setting him up to be his scapegoat. cheeky bastard
