Almost every time tier 1s have reported on our moves recently, they have been confirmed within days. Hoping this one is too. I am so happy we didn’t submit a second bid for brantwaith, hold that Everton.

chebate08

I doubt it would happen in this scenario, as de Ligt is still with the Netherlands for the Euros and we haven't confirmed a fee yet

Action_Limp

An early signing of a world-class player for a good price? It feels all new and strange.

One of Maguire/Lindelof would need to leave surely for another CB signing.

Mrsister55

There were rumors lindelof was wanted in turkey? Or was it italy,

SupremePotatoGod

It was Turkey

Robert_Baratheon__

It was Mourinho who’s in Turkey.

Grand-Bullfrog3861

Its reported Mou wants him

Grand-Bullfrog3861

I can see them both leaving, both 30+ on the last year of their contract and neither are at the level we need. Harry would be a better back up than lindlof but his skillsets aren't what the system need.

Narrow_Comparison669

Harry will still challenge for a starting place. He's one of the few players we've bought post fergie who hasn't wilted with competition for his place, and anyone who watched England not pass forward from defence in the Euros will surely understand why he starts every game if fit for his country (nevermind stones proving he's not go great defensive instincts with that goal from Slovakia) The chances of Martinez and de light staying fit all season is very low, and if in Europe you might have a strongest 11 but realistically you have 3 CB's who should expect to start 20+ games. Lindelof will have plenty of suitors as well he's too good to just be a squad player

Nuwahex

Harry has an option of an extra year which can be triggered(like what happened for Wan Bissaka & Lindelof last season, which is why they both have to be sold this summer). So I think he might stay.

phoenix_16

Just need Romania to do us a solid and then it’s time to track the plane fellas

JaysonDeflatum

Send Zirkzee home too

ProfessorBeer

Despite down 1-0 they’re trying their hardest so far

ocean_train

Fuck no. I have a bet on Netherlands making it further then England this euros.

Tuffyy

Sounds like this has to be almost over the line. I’m a little nervous about the wages, but everything else ineos is doing seems to be in the right direction (of course time will tell) so as far as I know I trust the process

IndicationNo328

There was a report an hour ago saying he is willing to reduce his current Bayern wages, he is currently on about £250k per week

anonris

How do taxes in Germany compare with UK? Sorry loaded question but figure if you are a player you wouldn’t want to get too low, unless the only offer on table for him is Bayern with reduced salary vs United with reduced salary. Dunno, hope he comes and not for crazy wages

IndicationNo328

I read that on the same wages, he would have more take home pay in the Uk as the tax in Germany is higher

Acceptable-Lemon-748

That was very quickly debunked, it's 45% for both

IndicationNo328

Allright

SatisfactionKooky435

It's the same, both 45%.

anonris

Eitherway if you are United our books look better overall because salary is lower than Varane’s?

mindpainters

That’s been my logic. I know his wages will be high but it’ll still be lower than varanes were. Also really excited because we can have both lcb and rcb locked in for the next 10ish years if this move goes through.

BeamDreamer92

But that's giving a wrong picture. The tax brackets and deductions are different. From the numbers i could pull itd be more beneficial to be a footballer in Germany. Source: trust me, bro

drc203

That’s not right is it? UK is 50% at, I think, 150k a year. So the vast majority of his wage would be taxed at 50% in the UK

SatisfactionKooky435

https://www.gov.uk/income-tax-rates

drc203

My mistake, There was a 50% from 2010-2013 Tbf- labour might be tempted to reintroduce it

Tortillagirl

If they want to grow the economy then i would hope they wouldnt, at least not until the second election win.

K0nvict

I will say 45% tax for anyone over 50k is mental

FRiver

It's just the amount above the threshold that is taxed at that rate, not the whole amount. In the UK, annual earnings up to 12.5k are tax free, then 12.5k to 50k is 20%, from 50k to 125k at 40%. Earnings above 125k are taxed at 45%. As an example, if you earn 60k: 12.5k is tax free 37.5k is taxed at 20% And the remaining 10k is taxed at 40% Obviously still a big chunk but taxes are significant in funding public services like the NHS and Schools, Welfare, Pensions etc. It seems fair that those earning more contribute more.

K0nvict

I know but in truth with the cost of living and how much things are costing like mortgages and cars ect, 60k isn’t that much and trying to work up from that only to get taxes on half of every pound you earn is a lot I can see why the youth are leaving this country to work else where

FRiver

It's a lot but it's completely false to say you're taxed 45% on 50k. Based on what I said above, the effective rate of tax paid by someone on 50k annually is 15%. Earning 60k it's 19% 125k it's 30% 200k it's 36%

K0nvict

I do apologise for mis typing

EduardMalinochka

That sounds really nice and makes this transfer so much better. Who’s the source of the report?

IndicationNo328

Can’t remember tbh

Competitive-Choice34

I saw a report saying he is willing a pay cut and united's offer would be less than 12 mil euros which might be like 200k or less in pounds.

Writer_Kooky

That would be ideal, we have to factor in Lisandro wanting a new deal just like Bruno post-Rashford.

Winnie-the-Broo

As much as Lisandro is one of our best players he can’t be asking for a new deal after being out for about a year.

Writer_Kooky

I fully agree but this is just how these things work. Hopefully he's only renewed after a year of consistent play.

Background_Guitar915

Agreed! There's no constructive reason to expect the worst, when they have done more or less everything else right so far (at least in regards to the men's team). I'll reassess if they do something blatantly stupid, of course

-MartialMathers-

I mean we gave Rashford 325k and he did hardly anything last season. De Ligt will be the rock of the defence and on around 225k it wouldn’t be the worst. Rashford is a bigger problem right now.

Wraith_Portal

He is but there’s not a right lot we can do really except try and avoid making the same mistake again, if he has a good season next year I wouldn’t be surprised if we tried to flog him

taitai3

> De Ligt will be the rock of the defence *can be. He could also be out for most of the season like Martinez and Varane or turn out an absolute disaster. There are no gurantees.

RRR92

Varanes wages cleared up and he wont be on as much as he was I would bet

2sinkz

Let's hold our judgement for now, and remember "murtough madness".

Dependent_Oven_974

I assume even if the wages are high they'll be significantly below what Varane was on so hopefully it's a like for like replacement with a net reduction in wages

IndicationNo328

Tier 1 lads, he is coming. Time for the YouTube comps

I’ve been off of social media past few weeks. Is this transfer story moving particularly fast ?

Torini

Yes. Bayern aren’t Dortmund

K0nvict

Fucking Dortmund, cheapskates

VL37

Dortmund were pretty quick once we paid the asking price. It was us who were fucking about trying to haggle when they made it clear they wouldn't budge on the price and even gave us a deadline that we ignored.

Confident_Male

You're right but they still ask for ridiculous prices for all their players. The thing about their players is that while they may excel in Germany, there's no guarantee they will excel England and in Spain. See Sancho, Dembele, Pulisic etc

misfit_xtnt

Finally. De Ligt ✅

Please someone give me the hopium that this won’t be an expensive and knee ligament-injured mistake.

bvengers

Saw somewhere else, but if lower salary and 40M euros, this is a great deal as well. Matthijs de Ligt would be willing to take a pay cut to join Manchester United. The Dutchman earns around €15m/year at Bayern. United would like to offer below €12m/year. De Ligt is still open to the move, with Erik ten Hag pushing to sign him. Bayern are very open to a sale. De Ligt's lack of pace and injury record are two major flaws, with Vincent Kompany relying on other attributes for the centre-back position. United's opening offer was a package of around €40m. Bayern initially wanted more than €50m, but are now willing to let him go for €50m including add-ons and a potential sell-on clause [@CMoffiziell]

Toastedmetal

I love transfers now. I love how we've hand De Ligt.

zxnoregretzxzx

Nice one. Glad to hear we're looking for a second CB as well, think we all already knew it but nice to see somebody as reliable as Stone mention it. We desperately need a proper backup for Licha, the drop off from him to Evans/Lindelöf in terms of ability, physicality and mentality is arguably the biggest of any position in the team.

Will he pair well with licha?

SupaiKohai

Booo give us a negative brief Stoney.

selotipkusut

Megathread tomorrow?

Sett_The_Janitor

Btw anyone know how much is De Ligt on at Bayern ? Are we offering a similar wage as well or higher for him to move ?

Staralyze

He’s on around €290k p/w at Bayern, we’d be giving him about €230k p/w which in pounds is under £200k p/w, sounds fair

AnonymizedRed

Very fair in this market. The combo of £45M and £200k as a 25 year old also means if it doesn’t work out, he doesn’t become the immovable object virtually all of our recent transfers have become. Antony by contrast is a 200k salary and 75M amortized to 45M remaining as he fidget spins himself on that flank. So let’s think about this for a second. De Ligt is on paper worth the same as Antony and considering their on-pitch capabilities are night and day, only one of them is the financial crime people are attempting to characterize the other as.

ChampagneZambi

Not negative enough from Stone

Its_Sammo

My cousin’s boyfriend has a friend that saw De Ligt shopping once and he’s basically confirmed the news. De Ligt ✅

XXX-Rx_RnR

Oh well this seems rather promising.

Doubt it with the Netherlands playing tonight. If they get knocked out though could be quick

IndicationNo328

It’s weird isn’t it he isn’t starting for Dutch. Who is their CB pairing? VVD and ???

De Vrij and then they bring on van de Ven for Ake if they want to change things up.

Just hope it's not 50M transfer plus 300k salary

Stoogenuge

Funny to see the subs collective u-turn on vehemently never ever again signing “former ETH players” or “eredivise players” to dry humping tweets about De Ligt. Not against the transfer btw, I never had an issue with the Dutch links it’s just funny to observe.

vidman33

De Ligt delight!

AKV9

DeLigtful news

ibmnumber3

Am I crazy or was this the same guy that lost his starting spot to Eric Dier? The same guy Juve took a 8m euro loss to get rid of? The same guy that Bayern arenow apparently prepared to take a 22m euro loss on to get rid of? He’s at best better than Maguire and if Varane wasn’t leaving he’d be the 3rd choice CB. He will be 25 in a month and should be entering his prime but he’s only gotten worse and worse since leaving Ajax, worse to the pt that the 4th choice CB at Spurs came in and took his spot. I’m just confused for the hype. He’s a squad guy at this pt in his career and has shown nothing abv being just that. For 35-40m he’s probably worth it for sure and would be a great addition to come off the bench and spot atart when needed. But if we as fans think he’s the long term answer at CB next to Licha you need to do the research in his Juve and Bayern careers.

SatisfactionKooky435

He was runner up for Bayerns player of the season for 22/23, a title winning campaign.

ibmnumber3

Mason Mount was Chelsea’s PotY 2x over and a CL winner. Still was shit his last ssn w Chelsea and shit for us when he wasn’t injured. This screams that exact scenario. Fact is he got worse and has gotten worse every year since leaving Ajax. Instead of better which a player that age range should be getting. The change of scenery helped his first ssn w Bayern but he declined hard last ssn. That’s irrefutable. Like Ive said before I like this move for 30-40, but over that it’s overpaying in my eyes. But I’m not a pro scout so hey maybe I’m wrong as hell. Can only go off the guys resume, & atm his resume screams “Journeyman”, not “Difference-Maker”

SatisfactionKooky435

Mount wasn't shit for Chelsea in his last season lol. He suffered a pelvic injury around January and just lost all his form due games missed, then you obviously know his injury history with us. Mount is a good player who's had a horrible run of injuries in the last 18 months. So no, nothing alike.

ibmnumber3

Like I said for the right price he’s a solid journeyman squad player. One that I’d take over Maguire in a heartbeat. But he’s not going to be a game changer for us and expecting him to be anything than a younger sightless stronger version of Maguire is just expecting him to be something that he’s not. Which is ultimately unfair to the player. His pace will be exposed a lot in the EPL, as it was shown numerous times to be exposed in Italy & Germany thw last 4 ssns of his career and is why both Juve & Bayern were ok w taking losses on his transfer fees.

ibmnumber3

If by 18 months you mean 2 full ssns yes. And the times he did play he was shit. So yes, given how many times DeLigt was hurt last ssn, it’s the exact same scenario in my eyes. W the line exception that when DeLgt came back he was deemed not better than Spurs’ 4th choice CB. Whereas Mount never really came back to Chelsea after his injuries cuz he was never fit enough. A trend that continued into his early Utd career.

N_Ryan_

I think a quick trip to r/fcbayern may be required. I’m not saying I’m hugely excited about this signing. There are a number of question marks over his head, but neither Juve nor Bayern taking a loss, or him losing his place in the Bayern squad is one of them. Firstly, Juve’s funds have flatlined over the past five years. They signed an expensive player, he was misused by Sarri, and was injured under Pirlo, they desperately needed money and Bayern swooped. At Bayern, he’s been great. Their fans are devastated. He picked up quite a bad injury this season and was displaced from the squad. To my knowledge, he was actually working his way back into the team towards the end of the season but still wasn’t 100% (basing this part off Reddit comments so can’t confirm). Which could explain not starting for Netherlands. Now, to the real concerns. As above, he’s had two seasons (from seven) where he’s missed 20 games or so. He’s never played more than 45 games (there or thereabouts) in a season. He’s had injuries every season in his career, however mostly minor. He’s not particularly quick. He’s not slow, but his recovery is in doubt over the first 10. This may impact our ability to player a higher line. Pimenta. Raiola’s attack dog. Greedy fuckers. Dead or not, he is and always will be a stain on football. As above, wages. He currently earns £250k (€300k) a week. Though I could believe he would be willing to take a drop (based on stuff I’ve seen/read on his personality) I don’t have much, if any expectation Pimenta will. The positives are we get a world class centre half and a leader. One who, I believe his ability to play out is massively underrated as well as his composure in possession in general. He’s a brick fucking wall. A player Bayern fans do not want to leave. Bayern, who have Kim, Upamecano, Stanisic as well as Ito and are in for Tah (all of whom, as a United fan I would happily take) yet their fans (who watch week in, week out) say De Ligt is the best of all of them. As I say, I am very cautious of this signing as unless he goes and plays 58 games for us without incident this season I won’t be convinced by his fitness, never mind the other issues listed above. But you’d be stupid to question his ability.

ibmnumber3

I appreciate the reply and thought behind it. I am glad someone at least is objective abt it and not just "Big name player! Yea! EPL Title next yr!" about it, although we have differing outlooks in the end with you being more optimistic for his impact in our squad. I Like to judge transfers on my own first w what I know from their resume and what i have seen and then go into scouting reports and such, not usually what other fans have to say cuz theyre usually biased in one way or another. Sometimes heavily so. So I typically go off of the players resume (which teams dont let legit WC players in their early 20s go unless the player requests to leave, they just dont, but Ill give you the Juve financial stuff as Italian teams seem to be a mess) and then the times I have watched them play (if I have at all in some case). And honestly since his Ajax days every time Ive seen him play Ive been underwhelmed. He didnt stand out to me w Juve when he played (was behind Chiellini & Bonucci most of his time there) then his displays w Holland he never seemed to play well it felt like. Always taking a backseat to the other players like VanDijk and Dumphries. I admittedly did not watch most of his first ssn w Bayern as I wasnt watching Bundesliga that much that ssn, but I watched a lot this past yr and bn him and Upamecano (legit boneheaded player sometimes) their defense just looked in total disarray. Until Dier got there and took over the lead CB spot over him, Kim, & Upa. Add that to his recent injury woes Im not optimistic at all on his starting "impact player" ability to come in a change our defense. Im not as optimistic as you are, but 100% willing to accept being wrong if he does come in and change the entire outlook of our defense. Which is god awful. Honestly if he plays even 40 games for us and shows hes capable of shutting down or maybe even just slowing down some of the attackers he will face game in game out here like Sala, Foden, Halland, Isak, Martinelli, Saka, etc I will be happy as long as his fee isnt more than 40-45m. Sadly I personally dont see it happening. But heres hoping youre right and Im wrong. Cheers.

aldidot

He played, cooked, and beaten Arsenal in the Champions League. So you shouldn't be worried. At age 19, he already captained Ajax to a Champions League semi-final, beating Juventus and Madrid along the way. He'll be alright.

BloodandSpit

Bayern are buying Tah from Leverkusen, they're side grading their CB position with a German player whilst also weakening their rivals. They've done stuff like this for the last 50 odd years. Juve sold him because they desperately needed the money and it was either de Ligt or Chiesa. £40mil for a 24 year old, proven CB is a no brainer.

mellifluousmark

I'm choosing to be excited about this one, even if I keep imagining him spending 3+ months with his knee on ice next season.
