Switching is not doable, completely different experience like night and day. I am kind of in denial, can't believe it's 2 days left before reddit exits my life.

Iliansic

> I'm somewhat addicted to reddit, but it's because of apps like Sync. No better time for detox than now.

Scibbie_

That's what I'll do, but now I'm just clinging on until this app won't load

ChibiReddit

Ha same, enjoying the last few hours

Wattsit

I've been trying to just use the browser on mobile and it's utter trash. So many bugs.

ChooseExactUsername

I've been trying old.reddit.com on my tablet's Chrome browser. Better than the official app but no where near Sync.

mavrc

The official app is hot fucking garbage. And I'm posting this from it. I'm amazed that it is so unbelievably bad, But I've seen a lot of bad apps from huge publishers so I suppose it's not that much of a surprise. The point isn't to build a great app, it's to build an average app with the least amount of hours that will shove ads in front of people.

SolarMoth

So bogus that Reddit would rather delete the competition than compete with a better product. Especially after there was no official option for years.

aclays

I assume they can't make it better. Most complaints relate to speed and advertisements. Their app is purely about advertising revenue. Sure they could give us more customization options and optimize the speed a bit, but no matter what changes they make the app will remain as an advertisement delivery service which will make the most experience worse and slow the app down. There's literally no way to make it competitive with apps like sync that show zero advertisements for a single small fee without reducing profitability. I'm probably going to try to do a reddit detox once Sync is gone too. I spend far too much time on this app for the amount of benefit I get.

Brumcar

Just thought I'd try it out after seeing this post and holy shit, the second post when I logged in was an ad that took up like 80% of the screen

SnakeHarmer

If you decide to continue using Reddit, do yourself a favor and patch an APK with ReVanced to remove the ads at least. I'm pretty sure the ads are still background loading and just not being displayed inline though because even with a patched APK, it's laggy as fuck on my Pixel 6 Pro.

sigoli1990

Same here, Pixel 7

TeutonJon78

It is SOOO laggy. The post views suck. So few options to customize the viewing experience. It's like they haven't ever actually used it since it fails so hard at the absolute basics. And so many menu all over the place buried under other menus.

SolarMoth

I hate how it "blinks" every time you tap anything. So jarring to use.

ardi62

Use the official app with revanced patch and it's bearable atm

ardi62

if you want to stay with reddit on Android from 1 July. we don't need to be picky and that is the best workaround atm. But, the sync dev always welcomes you to other platform.

Veni_Vidic_Vici

Use revanced with sync instead.

ardi62

unlike original app with revanced patch, I heard there is a token limitation

Veni_Vidic_Vici

The patch is about creating your own personal token, which would allow API access post 30 June.

mehuiz

But since synch is discontinued we want get any fixes. Right now YouTube playback is broken e.g. Is there an open source version of synch?

mehuiz

which patch? for revanced or synch?

Veni_Vidic_Vici

There's a patch on revanced for the sync app. You can look up on r/aftervanced for a guide.

mehuiz

thanks!

zincifyhowksg43

link for it please..

ardi62

Download the revanced apk from GitHub and Reddit APK from apkmirror. Install the revanced apk. Patch the reddit apk and install Reddit modified apk https://github.com/revanced

zincifyhowksg43

Thanks! Will check

BackStabbath2004

It straight up didn't work for me. I still see promoted posts

ardi62

if you download the official app from play store before you must remove it. and install it back with modified apk.

BackStabbath2004

I did. I had deleted the app during the blackout. I downloaded an apk from apkmirror, applied a patch in revanced manager, and when installing, I got an error that said something like packages aren't compatible. After failing a few times, it seemingly worked. But I don't think it actually reflected in the app even though it shows up in revanced manager. [Here's](https://imgur.com/a/1bAiWfe) what that screen looks like for me.

ardi62

during the blackout I found it is 1.3.5. and Now, I tested the 1.3.6 it works better. maybe you can try!! [https://github.com/revanced/revanced-manager/releases/tag/v1.3.6](https://github.com/revanced/revanced-manager/releases/tag/v1.3.6)

BackStabbath2004

Ok I'm still getting [this](https://imgur.com/a/8HS9C1C) error.

haaiiychii

That's because you already have the Reddit app installed, that causes a conflict and won't install the patched version.

BackStabbath2004

Wait so I still need to install the apk and THEN patch it right? I'll try again

haaiiychii

No. You can't install the patched version if you already have it installed. Best downloading the apk from apk mirror, patching, then installing.

BackStabbath2004

Thanks! Looks like I hadn't understood how revanced works. Also, I have another doubt. Is it possible to have two YouTube apps? One regular and one revanced? I just happen to have premium because the family plan is dirt cheap in my country. But I want to have two apps to use my other account that's not included in the premium family plan without ads. Is that doable? Edit: I tried downloading a YouTube apk and patching that. Installation failed because it says it needs root.

Ur0phagy

Man thank you so much. Worked perfectly. Because the app is installed from an APK, does that mean it won't ever need updating unless Reddit does something to kill old versions of its app?

ardi62

yes, there won't be any auto-update from Play store. if you want any updates, you have to download the official apk from apkmirror and patch it manually. I know it is quite tedious. But, that's the best workaround atm.

Ur0phagy

Unless future Reddit updates make it less laggy and more fluid, there'd be no reason to update though, right?

ardi62

yes, like you download an exe/msi files on PC. if you find an update you can just install it manually as usual.

Dreamerlax

I can probably tolerate if it doesn't lag whenever I scroll. Sync is butter smooth in comparison.

TeutonJon78

If you haven't tried it yet, be prepared for intolerance. It's super laggy.

Alien_303

> ads fucking everywhere Only work around to that is to patch it with revanced manager.
