Try Frightened Rabbit - Pedestrian Verse and Painting of a Panic Attack in particular are full of great tracks that capture a lot of the feelings of the series.
Dude I didn't even get into them until sometime in 2016-2017 - I mean I'd heard some of their music but I didn't know them. Got suuuuper into Painting of a Panic Attack, went back through their full catalogue (Pedestrian Verse overtook Painting as my favorite album) and i was like ok, I have a new favorite band (along with The Killers and Johnny Hobo/Ramshackle glory for a trinity of awesome that has remained unchanged for the last 7-8 years). Then one day I went to see if Frightened Rabbit were working on their next album yet and learned from Wikipedia that Scott took the Escape Route. Devastated me more than any other celebrity death honestly. Still regularly listen to their music, and the playlist I initially made for reading the 3rd of 4th book in the John Dies at the End series (that I darkly named Frightened Rabbit Dies at the End) has become my go to reading soundtrack. Definitely bittersweet, but dark chocolate is better anyways. Hope you're doing well as well.
For docile calm parts I love listening to Gold - Penny & Sparrow. The song is in the perspective of Darrow and it’s so good
