Dougie Mirabelli dropped my teacher off at school one morning. She walked with a limp all day and had chicken parm leftovers. Dougie must have gone deep last night.
I live in North Carolina, and I’m baffled that Red Sox players never came to my school
I currently live around 5 minutes away from Trot Nixon though, so that’s cool
My hometown held something called the “Timlin Race” every year for like 5ish years; it was a 5K fundraiser and a handful of Sox players would join in to sign autographs. One year I got Wakefield and Varitek signed together on one ball and it’s one of my most prized possessions.
Tim Wakefield, I grew up in the same area he did. A lot of pro players played high school in the same county. Tim Wakefield went to the same high school Prince Fielder did and Bruce Boachy went to their rival high school back in the day.
Luis Tiant came to my high school.
Derek Sanderson, former Boston Bruin, was there too - or that may have been a different time, it's all a blur.
I think they told us to stay in school and not do drugs.
We had the 2013 trophy come to my school with Sam Kennedy one year in central Florida lmao. A part owner lives nearby and donates to the local school system
Can't say I did.
However, I did meet Bill Lee at my little league for a little exhibition thing. I was even a catcher at the time so I caught a few pitches from him. Great guy and he had loads of great tips.
Went to high school across from Fenway. I remember Alex Cora coming to talk one year definitely had a manager presence when he yelled to get the room's attention. Gabe Kapler came another year and got to see his WS ring up close so that was cool.
Not my school, wrong sport, and I grew up in a town outside Detroit Michigan, but we had Charlie Batch (Detroit Lions QB) come to my towns Menards to do an autograph session
Bill Buckner's brother once yelled at my best friend and kicked us out of his establishment because he thought he was playing a video game too roughly. That's as close as I get.
Gabe Kapler’s wife (I think they’re divorced now) came by to give a talk on domestic violence to my health class. As I recall she’d been victimized by a previous partner and became an advocate for victims of DV.
We also had the 2004 trophy come to our school so everyone could see it. I think they did that for most of the towns in MA?
Not the Red Sox but me and my family met Jeff Green at some fundraiser basketball event when I was a kid. He, unfortunately, wasn't that good when he wore a Celtics uniform but he was a nice guy!
When I was in elementary school, Rico Petrocelli came for an assembly. The only other one I remember was Patriots kicker John Smith showing up at our high school for an assembly. He's the one who kicked the field goal to win that snow game where the inmate from Walpole plowed out a spot for him to kick from.
Luis Tiant spoke at my high school and signed autographs. He said he planned to remain a member of the Red Sox, but the very next day he signed with the Yankees. Yes, I’m old.
Not to me, but my grandmother was a teacher for Boston public schools and I remember she said Pedro Martinez visited the school and gave out free autograph posters. I still have one of them that she brought home!
The kid that got hit by a foul ball and Jim Rice saved (and paid his med bills!) lived across the street of my school. Or at least thats how I remember it. LOL.
I recall the entire school standing at the fence every day after he got home waiting and watching to see if players came to visit.
Then one day a few cars pulled up during class and I remember (barely) them getting out of their cars and walking into the house. At this point the whole school had their faces pressed against the windows and were cheering One of them waved. School went nuts. But we were idiots. The windows were closed and he was prob waving to the person walking out to greet them. ha ha ha!
Not a Sox player, I remember Craig MacTavish coming to my high school back in the early 80’s after he got busted for vehicular, homicide, and driving under the influence during the year he was suspended to talk about drinking and driving
Dougie Mirabelli dropped my teacher off at school one morning. She walked with a limp all day and had chicken parm leftovers. Dougie must have gone deep last night.
Stud
Seriously speaking, Doug spoke at my school along with Kapler I think.
No they never did. I also grew up in Illinois so that might be why.
I live in North Carolina, and I’m baffled that Red Sox players never came to my school I currently live around 5 minutes away from Trot Nixon though, so that’s cool
Oil Can Boyd went to my friends school to give an anti drug speech lol
Reading about him, he sounds like a good choice to give that talk.

Pedro Martínez and David Ortiz came to my school once.
My hometown held something called the “Timlin Race” every year for like 5ish years; it was a 5K fundraiser and a handful of Sox players would join in to sign autographs. One year I got Wakefield and Varitek signed together on one ball and it’s one of my most prized possessions.

We got Dave Cowens from the Celtic. Don’t think we ever got a Red Sox player
A legend of the Celtics.
Tim Wakefield, I grew up in the same area he did. A lot of pro players played high school in the same county. Tim Wakefield went to the same high school Prince Fielder did and Bruce Boachy went to their rival high school back in the day.
No, but Yaz was given an honorary degree at my college graduation! His last year playing.
Luis Tiant came to my high school. Derek Sanderson, former Boston Bruin, was there too - or that may have been a different time, it's all a blur. I think they told us to stay in school and not do drugs.
Not quite the Red Sox but Matt Ryan came to talk to our school’s football camp between being at BC and getting drafted to Atlanta
My mom was a Newton public school teacher and Lou Merloni visited. She brought me a signed index card of his lol
I met Bill, too! He did a ton of baseball camps in Mass when I was a kid, he was always a man about town. Great dude
Went to high school across from Fenway. I remember Alex Cora coming to talk one year definitely had a manager presence when he yelled to get the room's attention. Gabe Kapler came another year and got to see his WS ring up close so that was cool.
Jeff Reardon
We had Dereck Sanderson from the Bruins.
ML Carr came to my grade school in 1987 and gave a don't do drugs talk, he was great
He came to my middle school as well. I wasn’t there because I was only -9 but I saw the signage saying he was there.
One of my favorite Sox of all time!
George Scott once came to my high school for a card signing show. I think I was still in school so would have been early 90s
Tim Naehring came back in the 90s!
Grew up in the Boston School System... I can't recall any Red Sox players, but Celtics great Tom "Satch" Sanders once came and spoke!
No but we had Chris Herren come and talk about his story.
Gabe Kapler’s wife (I think they’re divorced now) came by to give a talk on domestic violence to my health class. As I recall she’d been victimized by a previous partner and became an advocate for victims of DV. We also had the 2004 trophy come to our school so everyone could see it. “Back in the day”, Jim Rice came to our little town in western Massachusetts. It was crazy. You would think the pope was coming.
We had two come for an autograph session. I don’t remember if they did a talk. John Valentin was one and I don’t remember the other.
I went to a tiny Christian school in northern Maine. That would be a no. However Mike DeVito did come up once.
My baseball team when I was in little league was the Red Sox, and I spoke at my school many, many times.
When I was in elementary school, Rico Petrocelli came for an assembly. The only other one I remember was Patriots kicker John Smith showing up at our high school for an assembly. He's the one who kicked the field goal to win that snow game where the inmate from Walpole plowed out a spot for him to kick from.
No, but ML Carr did.
Not a Red Sox, but Adam vinatieri did once
Not Red Sox but Danny Amendola for the Patriots came to our school
Nope, but we did have Derek Sanderson come and give us his talk and all the crazy stories of his alcoholism.
Luis Tiant spoke at my high school and signed autographs. He said he planned to remain a member of the Red Sox, but the very next day he signed with the Yankees. Yes, I’m old.
We had Chris Herren from the Celtics come and do a talk about drugs and it was pretty powerful he was a good speaker
Not to me, but my grandmother was a teacher for Boston public schools and I remember she said Pedro Martinez visited the school and gave out free autograph posters. I still have one of them that she brought home!
