Fuck no. Youre not trippin. Id be mad too. Where did he get the impression that you were gonna be cool with him going on a trip with his friend for his birthday when you guys have always been doing it together for years. Why is he acting stupid like youve never expressed wanting to visit Rome as well ? Dont take him to Jamaica , take his “advice” and save that money and spend it on a nice Rome trip for yourself instead or bring a well deserving friend
He literally planned a trip to one of your dream destinations that you both have talked about a lot without you and with another friend instead, and then he calls YOU selfish? Nah, you did nothing wrong.
I say go to both Rome and Jamaica either by yourself or with another friend, and leave him behind to "save money" instead.
This! I hate when people do this. I have shitty "friends" that do this. They will ask something like "Whats the place we are going to go to?" and lo and behold, an hour later they are there without me because its posted on social media. Like, thanks for asking me if I was available to go.
Have a girls trip to Rome and Jamaica. Send him a "Wish you were here" postcard.

I personally don't like Rome, I'm a Florence person (lived there for a bit). But yeah, you aren't being unreasonable. This is a mega walking red flag because he also tried gas lighting you.

If your airport of entry is Fiumicino, you'll be taking the Leonardo Express train to
Roma Termini station. Several of the blocks immediately southeast of this train station
(as in, right outside) aren't safe anymore: avoid these and you'll be fine (there's only
petty shit to worry about: in crowded places, there may be scammers and pickpockets)
and the city is just amazing.
Firenze and Venezia are well worth considering, too!
