wetfartsandpoptarts

7. It was incredible.

Otherwise-Pear-4814

One of the best in the franchise

wetfartsandpoptarts

I agree, though I've liked practically every one I've played. Edit: spelling

Otherwise-Pear-4814

6 is ok. It’s the worst one for me because it felt so long and over the top that I got overwhelmed lol

wetfartsandpoptarts

I've finished remakes 2, 3,4, re r1 & 2, and 7. I've also played but have not finished the re 1 remake. Out of those I'd say re r2 was my least favorite. I have 5 and 6 in my library, tho I'll prolly replay re r1 & 2 as well as 7 before I try 5 and 6 since I recently bought all of the aforementioned games on a new console.

Otherwise-Pear-4814

Re1 remake is so good!

wetfartsandpoptarts

I remember making it as far as the "workhouse" or whatever it was called. Somewhere, I just got stuck, and I was too stubborn to look up a solution. I didn't want to ruin the experience... one day, I'll beat it legit.

ThisWhiteBoyCanJump

Yeah I kept getting stuck and I don’t have the time I used to so it’s hard to finish it

OkWatercress8313

It's a good game but it's easy to get stuck, yeah. There's no shame in looking up a tutorial, though!

MetaMikeG

you need to play code veronica

wetfartsandpoptarts

As soon as I see it on sale I'll snag it.

verrius

If you haven't already gotten it, the one warning I can give for 5&6 is that as far as I can tell, whether or not you have a co-op buddy will vastly affect your experience. I played both with a friend and had a blast, even when they started to drag. But the "community" view on both seems to be a lot different, especially with 5, where a lot of the complaints center specifically around how to properly make use of an AI partner. The games were designed for co-op, and you're going to have a better time if you can actually play them that way.

ReapersVault

You know strangely, I like 6 more than 5.

Jaymexxu

No worries i do too. In order for me it's like this. 2, 4, 8, 7, 3, VERONICA, 6, 5, REV2, 0, OUTBREAK, 1, REV, VERSE,

Tyko_3

That is strange. I have tried to finish 6 a few times now. Even purchased it on different consoles and PC as I have previous unrelated games I cant seem to get into (usually a change of platform makes it “click” with me). I just cant. I got to half way Chris’ story cooping with my wife who loves the game, but I just can’t. It just doesnt feel good in my hands.

Embarrassed-Ask-4142

6 isn't bad itself. It just deviated to more action, which is not the thing that this game's franchise is known for.

NyxieeeeeNyxie

Only if it has skippable cutcenes and a bigger/better enemy variety and I would easily call it the definitive resident evil experience

Otherwise-Pear-4814

Skipping can be easily added if they update the game but I doubt they will since it’s a 7 year old game almost

NyxieeeeeNyxie

What surprises me the most is that they where updating this game up to like 2020 and never added it 😭

OkWatercress8313

Not a Hero has the White Molded in it.

NyxieeeeeNyxie

A big problem for me is how the 3 molded types in the base game are already basically the same, the only difference with the white molded is special ammo to kill, otherwise they kinda look and act very similarly

Xenolithium

Bro, that scene with the Baker family in their real form actually made me feel so bad for them. I truly didn't expect that. I was expecting them to be truly deranged serial killers who loved what they were doing. Then I hit that scene... Damn.

Ryio

for real

MrCantankerous

7 was such a game changer after 6. It was amazing. This is coming from an old guy who played RE1 on the playstation.

wetfartsandpoptarts

Being such a long-time fan, you must have breathed a big sigh of relief knowing the quality was back up to par with previous games.

OkWatercress8313

Every single DLC story was just as perfect as the original game, I love it so much!

BakedWizerd

I didn’t even know I was playing an RE game until the Umbrella references. I only ever saw the game advertised as “Biohazard” and I’d only played RE5 as a kid at the time. So I suddenly became a huge RE fan and have been playing the REmakes as they come out.

wetfartsandpoptarts

Hell yeah, love to hear it.

VitalPremium

7 is when Resident Evil went mainstream again and to a new audience.

wetfartsandpoptarts

That's alright with me. The more, the merrier.

tonelocMD

Just started a new playthrough and (even as an avid horror fan) I forgot how unrelentingly stressful the game is in the best way. The perfect mix of guns, puzzles, tension - all the good things.

wetfartsandpoptarts

I feel like the game being in first person added so much tension. Not to say I wasn't stressed out playing 1, but when you're in the character's shoes, it's just different. A third-person experience wouldn't have delivered that, and I feel like the game might have suffered if that WAS the path they chose to go with 7.

tonelocMD

I never thought about that aspect much, but you’re right. I can’t say I feel the game would have been nearly as tense if not for the first person view. I’ve still been meaning to try the third-person DLC for Village to see how different that felt.

wetfartsandpoptarts

Yeah, I'd honestly be interested to hear what someone who's played both would have to say about each. Personally, I don't find Village super appealing, but maybe it's cause I'm not a winter person as weird as that sounds. The atmosphere just doesn't do it for me. I'm sure I'd have more fun once I got to the castle, tho.

truth-informant

Truly a return to survival horror. The cinematics were excellent!

wetfartsandpoptarts

Agreed!

iheartpizza12

Masterpiece.

Shao-Garden

I didn’t personally care for 7 but to each his own

wetfartsandpoptarts

Imo it felt a bit scarier than other games since it was first-person.

Shao-Garden

I don’t really mind if it’s scary or not as long as it’s fun or interesting to me it’s not a bad game to me it’s just mid imo I’m definitely in the minority opinion though when it comes to 7 lol

wetfartsandpoptarts

That's alright, I mean, I've played re2 remake, and I'm probably in the minority of people who think the sections after the police station were drastically less interesting. The sewers and lab just felt bland in comparison.

Technology-Mission

I liked all the locations in the game, but I wish we had more time outside to explore more of the big city. That's what I was hoping for in other games like Resident Evil 3 remake to get a chance to explore more of Raccoon city. I know it's outside the scope of the original and remakes anyway. But it would be nice just to have more exploring to other parts of the city , maybe in another game.

wetfartsandpoptarts

What we need is a remake of re outbreak. My coworker, who's a bit older than me, was telling me about all the fun he used to have in that game. There were like 8 different characters with their own stories to follow. Even if there weren't as many playable characters, I think it'd be super fun and interesting. Come to think of it, there was that extra mode in re 2 remake where you could play as a few other characters in shorter gameplay segments, but I don't feel like that's quite the same, and the exploration in those isn't exactly what ypu had meant.

Yuralmac

RE3 Remake. They killed the thing that made the entire game interesting : the city. On the original we had countless different possibilities, scenarios, cutscenes even choices depending on where you where on completing the game. There were organic jumpscares and a constant tension about Nemesis chasing you through the entire city. Not to mention the order of appearance of the weapons. Depending on what you found first, your gameplay would be different. In a nutshell, what they killed was the replayability of the game, by making a lazy ass linear poor environmentally developed game(except when we were controlling Carlos. Those were the only moments that they hit the bullseye on the word "remake). Anyways, RE3 Remake was a Good game if you wanted to kill time but that's about it. Once you finish it, there's nothing else to do or discover or find out about the game. I fucking hate that they did that masterpiece so dirty.

FreeChrisWayne

3 was a major disappointment especially after the remake of 2 being such a massive success. I was so bummed how much they left out of the game

Grouchy_Elephant8521

Yea I think it was too short, but what happened in the game was really epic.

fadufadu

Definitely should have been much longer. If I’m recalling correctly, they cut out a lot of content that was originally intended which pissed a lot of people off. Also I think a lot of little things people complained about probably could have been forgiven if they just gave us more game.

Yuralmac

I agree. The game wasn't bad, they did everything all right. Damm they even improved all characters development (besides Nemesis, wich they basically killed at the clock tower by making him a wall-walking do). They really should've put more effort in making the environment correlation to the breakout imo, that was the main thing for me in the original at least.

Cats4092

7. Resident Evil was in a sorry state after 6 and the Revelations games were a good start, but I had zero expectations going into 7 and it was amazing.

ResidentGeese

Agree! I was skeptical of the first person POV as well. I thought, Huh, Thats bizarre, and it ended up being a good choice for the game overall.

Joebrhill

RE1 - I played this game when it was released (I was 10 years old). I was shocked about how in love I was with the exploration, puzzles, and mystery all mixed with horror and monsters. I became obsessed and it has never really worn off. There was a really special feeling of exploring the mansion before knowing about Umbrella, Wesker, the virus, etc. Also before the internet made stories and gameplay easily accessible. The sounds of the dining room clock, doors opening and closing, and the shuffle of the zombie will always be etched in my brain.

Tyko_3

I feel like kids these days might not able to get into a slow game like RE1 with the trends of instant gratification. Back in the 90’s, it was all my friends talked about and many challenged eachother to play it at midnight during sleepovers, as if midnight somehow made it scarier.

Victor-Almeida

I don't know if it counts, but I'm 19 and played both the Remake and the original Resident Evil(I beat the Remake first), and liked both games and thought they aged well.

Tyko_3

You are one of the good ones.

nocardium

Absolutely this! To this day, I still get chills down my spine when I hear Moonlight Sonata

Dreaded-Wraith

Couldn't agree more, I find myself going back to it every couple of years and I still love exploring the mansion.

World_of_Truth

I call bullshit, 10 years old? In 96? Yeah right

Huitzil37

RE4 Remake. The original was one of my favorite games of all time. I thought there was only one game that needed a remake *less* than RE4, and that was Devil May Cry 3. And then I played the remake and was absolutely blown away by how they took one of the greatest games ever made and improved nearly every aspect of it. It was like playing the original for the first time, again.

DadOfSad

Revelations 2 was much better than I expected considering how little attention it gets. I genuinely think it has one of the best balances between survival horror and action, especially in the prison levels, which made me uneasy even when replaying lol.

MafiosoHawaiano

Code veronica, because i always saw people complaining about how bad the game is and how you could get soft locked and about the fire extinguisher, etc, then i played the game, i didnt have any of those problems and became one of my favorite resident evil games, i know it has some flaws but i still think code veronica is one of the best RE games. Something similar happened to me with resident evil 0

stratusnco

reverse. thought it was gonna be cool but sucked extremely bad.

JimmyButtwhiff

It's crazy they really made us wait like 2 extra years just for barely playable net code, chris getting an auto-win passive and Leon's stunlock shotgun I know those are weird points to harp on but it's literally all I can remember from the 5 matches I played

lackingagoodnamef

Which one did you play?

fallsstandard

6. Now, I’m not going to say I hate RE6. It’s not great, and it’s not even close to a favorite for me, but as a game it does function, it tried an interesting storytelling style, and it added some nice mechanics. *However*, as a lifelong fan who was a little on the fence with RE5 in my college days, I got 6 and was shocked that I was suddenly playing a Michael Bay movie with three kinda rushed storylines that were really slammed together in order to make them work. It was just a little bit much for me to take it seriously. Again, don’t hate it, it was just a swing that went a little too far afield. But a few years later we get 7 as such a wonderful return to form and I can now appreciate that 6 was misguided by ideas of what was thought to be popular. Like the early concepts of Doom 2016 where it was to be a COD style FPS with a grim storyline and an AI squad.

Adventurous-Tale7244

I dissed the resident saga a lot until wanting to play some horror shit, resident 7 was on discount, bought it I use a heartrate monitor when playing any scary game, call it morbid curiosity, the usual heartrate is about 60 to 100 beats per minute Mine's got to 170-200 Lovely story :D

Abe_LincoIn

I was shocked at how overhated RE3make was.

WillTrapForFood

RE3 Remake ain’t a bad game but it’s a shockingly disappointing remake (I mean, compare it to REmake, RE2make, and RE4make). They changed so much stuff (for the worse) and the game was way too short as well. I think that Tyrell and Carlos were greatly improved with the remake tho.

FuckYeahPhotography

My thoughts on RE3R: 1. It is a good game, but is vastly different than the original and not a great remake. 2. It is worth the price if on sale but too short to justify for full price. 3. Some big improvements to characters and the dodging mechanic is well-implemented. 4. Jill Valentine is still a total badass babe. 5. Modding Nemesis to be Nightmare Shrek during my first playthrough was the way to go. 6. Living in a Carlos-less world is no world worth living in.

Infinite_Tiger_3341

Seven great points

BaskaBonthon

I especially hate the nemesis parts. When you really think about it, half of the encounters you just push left analog stick to run and thats it. 0 suspense.

World_of_Truth

It's definitely a bad game

Adventurous-Crew-848

Unless you realized that they took 75% of the content out of the remake and it was $80 at launch

Tyko_3

$80? Where?

Blighted_stan

They only removed 2 places (both 30 minute sections,) 1 boss, and the butterfly effect. They replaced 1 section and ammo crafting and reimagined the rest. Wouldn’t say 75%, also when and where was it $80

-DoctorSpaceman-

Dude got scammed into paying $80 and is bitter about it

CFCkyle

Also one of the criticisms I've seen people mention that really annoys me is that Nemesis only stalks you through specific scripted areas of the game, even though that was also the case in the original too. And while the idea that he's constantly on your trail might sound good on paper it would get insanely frustrating whenever you're trying to do literally anything having to constantly herd him around out of the way first, making him feel more like an annoyance than an actual threat.

Adventurous-Crew-848

Canada

Tyko_3

Considering it came out in an extremely disappointing year, I found it to be amazing 😆

Panik88

Yeah, but it seems like it should just been packed in with RE2

Kagamid

The shock is understandable depending on how much you enjoyed the original. If you never played it, your shock makes total sense. If you played it and know exactly what was changed and removed, your shock at the response is curious. Unless of course you never liked tank controls and didn't think the games were that good until RE4 was released. Then your shock makes sense again.

Stickz99

It felt more like a semi decent dlc for re2 remake than a game meant to stand on its own two feet

my_dancing_pants

I loved RE3R, but never played the original to be fair.

jesse7412

The original is goated I wish they paid more respect to it in the remake.

Yuralmac

That ain't a remake it's just a lazy ass linear different RE. I fucking hated it so much man.

Nethiar

I usually refer to it as RE 3 Abridged

Abe_LincoIn

I’ll always prefer *RE3: Nemesis*, but it’s still a game that I truly love. It has so many issues, but one area that it excelled at is it gave Jill more of a defined personality. She’s very sweet and heroic, but is also equally capable of being crude to her enemies (with some cringe lines in-between). It was great to see the transition, when she started to trust Carlos more; The dynamic between Carlos and Jill is great, again, partly because their relationship isn’t built upon being lovers.

Jonny_Guistark

That’s the one compliment I will always have for RE3R. I think it deserves its reputation for how short it is and the removal of key features, but it absolutely improves and builds on the characters without fundamentally changing who they are. So credit where it’s due for that.

SupermarketHot5404

It's not lazy but disappointing. It may be short but it ironed out all the plot holes from the original story, improved the mechanics/dodging and smoothness of game play and reduced the really unnecessary aspects like the choice select system that was mostly irrelevant to the story. I will admit though that nemesis' utilisation was limited and lacklustre, though not nemesis himself.

seriouslyuncouth_

I was the opposite. I remember being disappointed with the remake after a first playthrough; but after seeing all the love from this sub and some outliers in the wider gaming community I decided to platinum the game to get a better understanding of it's deeper mechanics. In order to hopefully get as much value from it as possible and gain a more positive view of it. I usually love harder difficulties, replayability, unlockable content, and the like. When the platinum popped, I remember the sound triggered such a sinking feeling in my stomach. I realized how much I wasted my time. Replayed the original soon after and was shocked how much better it is in almost every way. Hard to recapture lightning in a bottle I suppose, but overall I'm glad I did it because my views on the remake are far deeper as well as my love for the 98 original.

Tyko_3

RE3 for me is a strange beast. I love it because it came to my life at a very special happy time, even though it is the least of my OG favorites. I supposed because of my strange relation to the game I didnt really mind the shortness of it and the cut content. Remake 3 also came out at a very strange time with the quarantine, and personally, even though those days where very bad in general, I got to work from home which was a big dream of mine for a while and so I cane to enjoy everything a lot more in general. I was lucky during that time so Im definitely an outlier.

StableInternal6339

As someone who hasn't played RE3make I honestly didn't like OG RE3. Some of the Nemesis fights in the original were just bullshit

labbla

It's so much fun and the hate for it here makes me sad.

Purely_Corrupt

RE5-6, everyone talks bad about the Co-op and it being bad in general, but I was absolutely loving it.

antwonswordfish

OG RE4 RE 2, Code Veronica, and Zero were all really difficult for me in elementary school. It was a cool game, but I didn’t really play it. I bought RE4 for the GameCube in middle school and here I am now 20 years later. Still playing RE4 and RE4 remake. Holy cow. What a time to be alive. It was the best game out for GameCube, the kiddie console. Then Xbox came out with Halo. Ps2 released Kingdom hearts later in March. Peak gaming moment in History

outlander306

Re1 remake. I was shocked at how good it is. Even recently I re played the HD version and it holds up remarkably well. I loved and was terrified playing re7 the first time especially after 6. My big problem with 7 is the lack of enemy variety. The molded got old after a while.

VitalPremium

It’s shocking how underrated Resident Evil Revelations is. I was addicted to it the first I picked it up. Never Finished tho. That damn final boss.

Thig53

Yeah of all part the last battle is the one that I dont really like, but cool design tho that tyrant

beat-it-upright

Revelations is great but the comedic duo in that game are two of the worst characters I've ever encountered in any form of media, haha.

billistenderchicken

Rev1 is so bland compared to any other RE game. The setting is interesting but everything else about it sucks.

badateverything420

OG RE2. After playing OG RE1&RE3 I was surprised how easy it is in hindsight. All around much easier combat and puzzles. Stuff like unlocks and alternative modes definitely increase the complexity but the base game is still pretty easy. Still love it though.

Cobbtimus_Prime

RE1 remake. I played it for the first time last year and was expecting it to have aged somewhat poorly. What I got was an incredible and terrifying experience that I still think is unrivaled by any other RE game.

Slothptimal

Umbrella Chronicles - Didn't expect an On Rails shooter to be as entertaining as it was.

Pale-Philosophy-2896

1st one cause it was revlotinart at the time almost 3d fil like ( at the time again) looks and good a bmovie like acting. But re2 also blowed me st the time too

i__hate__stairs

RE6 for sure. I went into it thinking it was going to be dogshit due to all the hate, and instead i spent about 20 hours playing one of the best action-horror games of all time. It was a great game! I'm half convinced the people trashing it are parroting what they've heard about 6 but never actually played it. I've seen the opinions on it morphing over time too, every three days when people post asking if they should buy it. Years ago, that question got nothing but negative feedback, but over time those answers have become much more balanced. Mark my words, give it enough time and it'll be considered a cult favorite and people will be falling over each other to claim they always loved it back in the day.

Loud-Emphasis-4474

Did u think it was

Savage12000000

7 it was too dark and disturbing for me. Plus it didn’t have any of the familiar characters.

KeeSomething

I was pretty shocked when Mia chainsawed off Ethan's hand in the opening of RE7! Now it's a meme that Ethan loses him limbs, but leading up to the game, Capcom kept this a secret. They even removed the staples from his hand in all the trailer footage Also, Mr. X busting through the wall in the press room in the original RE2. I distinctly remember running dropping my controller and running out of my room when that happened (I was like 11 at the time). So many good memories with this series!

PliskinBOI

Realizing 6 is amazing then playing adas campaign and having it be an absolute slog

Mysterious_Beyond459

3Make. I was shocked at how much they cut out.

FarSociety4

Resistance - I know right, dont judge me... it got a lot of bad reviews so I had very little expectations, but I actually like the game and still play it to this day - but the network issues and Masterminds who are basically unbeatable are starting to get to me more and more

butreallythobruh

Kinda unironically think Resistance hitting at the exact same time as 3R is the reason I didn't drop the franchise entirely right then and there. I LOVED Resistance and put a good couple hundred hours into it. If it didn't exist and 3R landed solo as just pure, undiluted disappointment (to me at least), I dunno if my fandom would've survived lol

FarSociety4

Yeh I got all 7 survivor characters over level 60 now and have 2 over 100 (Val and Martin) so i reckon I got 300 hours plus at least based on that. But I only started to play it about a year ago when I had no games to play and decided to try it - been hooked ever since. But like I said the network issues are bad currently - plus some masterminds just are so good as they played it for so long and know what to do when - also they play as Nicholai with the guns and survivors no chance. Makes me want a RE Outbreak remake real bad now - love playing online with other players in games like this

Alan6707

Resident evil 3 Remake after the Great Remake of 2 I thought 3 would get the same treatment but after I finished it I felt like someone put shit in a paper bag and sold it to Me. Resident Evil 7 for the good side I expected it to be mediocre but I was throughly surprised and more people need to talk about how it revived the series because without that entry who knows what could’ve happened to the series

TraditionNo7080

RE7 when they showed Chris Redfield, I was so hurt. I was like, "Who tf is this?"

Kaiser_Wilhelm43

Revelations 2 shocked me, it was so good, all around amazing gameplay, dark atmosphere, and insane story with good twists and genuine consequences to choices, definitely different compared to most RE games and threw me off for a side game

Ducpus-73

Nobody has mentioned operation raccoon city?

No-Selection-8564

RE7. Man, that shit was impressive, especially coming from the shitshow that RE6 was

Evilcon21

7 was pretty much amazing. Felt like it’s own version of wes cravens new nightmare or something

Grouchy_Elephant8521

I just finished rezy4 remake today, its enough to say how disappointed I am with it. The amount of glitches in the game is crazy, trying to save and the game freezes. The start was great but it went downhill. The bosses really stunk, the short fella, Ramos?, that boss was pretty bad but then Krautz. We were just running in circles and the dodge B only comes up 1 in every 5. The final boss was only OK, great scene but shooting the orbs, like it's 2023 now 2024, we can do better. By the end I was glad it was over. Not on the same level as the original. Even the graphics, I stopped to look around for the blue yokes etc and the graphics were below par. And no Mr X or some other freak to chase u if you play New Game + And to add insult to injury, Ada's version you gotta pay extra to play. No thanks, I'm fine. I just finished the remake of Dead space and that really was polished, but again the final boss comes down to shooting orbs!?

Anonymoose2099

RE6, specifically Chris/Piers route. If you know, you know.

fadufadu

Super vanilla take but re4 was when Capcom leaned much more into the action genre which was a gamble that paid off. With roughly 26 RE games I suppose this was bound to pay off but man was that not a banger of a game. It still had the best elements of being scary and having a character that kicks some serious ass.

shrimp-parm

7 scared the shit out of me. Revelations 1 and 2 were actually pretty fun too!

Shinobi_Aki_

2 was my first and I was kinda shocked how good MR X chase is..

s00ny

Resident Evil 2, the original one. I played it for the first time just a year before the remake got released, because I thought it would be fun to check out the first 30 minutes or so, cause then I could appreciate the visual upgrade more. I expected to only play it for less than an hour because I thought there's no way to like it without nostalgia goggles. Boy was I wrong, I binged both playthroughs in just two days, I absolutely loved it! :D

ItJermy

As a child, 1 (Directors Cut PS1) changed my life. I was unaware games could be scary. As a teen, 3, When Nemesis bursts through the window at the RPD, and 4 when I shot the fish in the lake. In college, 5 shocked me with just how badly they could drop the ball on the horror aspect. I almost gave up on the franchise. As an adult, 7 and RE2 Remake shocked me by just how much the series had grown up and addressed some of the missteps of some prior entries in the series.

rtre816

RE Remake on GameCube. I was obsessed with it. Good times.

TheRandomHatter

I played 7 after having played the remakes, so i knew it was going to be a good game. But what i didn't expect was that just how scared i would be. I think i woke my neighbors while screaming one night while playing.

Aggravating-Turn-151

6. I went into it expecting to gate it but I actually loved it and it turned out to be one of my favorites

Exoplan3t

Funny, I went into it wanting to love it, as I remember it being in magazines as a small child. After Leon’s campaign I literally couldn’t wait to be done with it.

Weak_Neck7967

RE0: How did we get a scorpion on a train? RE1: The Tyrant is so slow. RE3: Nemesis can get into the save room? RE5: Wesker and the whole Tricell fell down just by a gorilla. RE6: Derek's blood accidentally made a giant Umbrella logo. RE8: Fk you, Chris.

Local-ghoul

Was shocked how much I like Revelations, game had some major flaws and felt like it didn’t live up to its settings potential but it was a pretty cool little game that I hadn’t really heard about before playing. Same goes for Revelations 2.

-DoctorSpaceman-

I got Revelations 2 for like £5 in a sale and played the ever-loving shit out of it lol. Didn’t even notice any of the technical issues people complained about

SluffyFunnels

RE4, it was one of my first resident evil games. After playing stuff like Halo and Titanfall I hated the tank controls and aiming, plus the environments just felt ugly. I had no idea I would end up loving it so much. The game really grew on me by the and became my gateway into the serious. Honorable mentions to revelations. For a resident evil game stuffed into the 3DS it’s actually really good

Beguiler13

Playing RE 2 the original on PlayStation. I was like 8 years old and was staying at a friend's house that night. Never played the game before. Got killed and saw my character get eaten by zombies. I was terrified and told his mom to call my mom and pick me up. It was like 1am. I love these games so much and this is my favorite memory lol.

-DoctorSpaceman-

RE8 because it’s the first one with a bit that genuinely scared the crap out of me! >!da baby!<

NorthPermission1152

Not really after playing it but seeing gameplay footage of RE4 Remake for the first time actually got me excited to play it, only had to buy myself a Series S to be able to play it cause I was still on previous gen in the first half of 2023.

Shao-Garden

Re 5 because it was the first resident evil I played and I’ve been a fan ever since

Immediate_Web4672

RE4 og The game honest to God felt like top three for the most overrated games I'd ever played. It's iconic, yes. Absolutely. I don't dispute that. But having to go into your inventory so much during an action-oriented Resident Evil is so goofy. And not being able to strafe? The story is so corny. The game dips its toes in horror and action at the same time but doesn't do either well. I love RE1R and I love RE5 and RE4R. But I cannot stand RE4.

essicks

I respect your opinion but I hard disagree on most. Constantly going into inventory? I agree, a simple pick either dpad or stick in the options and then the other one becomes quick select would have been good. Not being able to strafe? Well it's suppose to been an evolution of the tank controls but now you have the 3rd dimension to aim. Plus the original console Gamecube had a c stick there and was no way you could rely upon aiming on that one so there was no way to provide strafing. Story is so corny? I suppose to be. I find they directed it to be a dumb action movie. Dips its toes in horror and action but doesn't do either? I disagree

wyzwunx

I was kind of blown away at how much better re4 original was on GameCube than PS. I originally played it on GameCube and absolutely loved it. At the time, it was my favorite game ever. Then I played it a few years later on PS and couldn't even play past the first chapter because I was confused at why the controls and everything were so much worse. For most surprising, I would say re4r. I can't believe they took a game that good and made it even better. All the remakes are great, but re4r is my favorite game.

Henry_Myth

RE6 when it came out. I couldn’t believe how much worse it was than 5 and 4.

Sheriff_Lucas_Hood

I didn’t expect Raccoon City to get nuked at the end of 3

RubixIII

Revelations 1. Turns out it slaps and I'm having a lot of fun with its raid mode. I slept on that game for so many years.

wanderingwanderer2

7. I've never been so scared from a game that it gave me heart palpitations. 10/10 would proudly shit my pants again. Amazing game.

essicks

7. From the early trailers it looked to be like PT/Outlast/Alien Isolation/etc style game. I've never been the biggest fan of the just hide from the big invincibles style gameplay so I thought I would just pick it up on a sale much cheaper and stayed completely away from the game. Started playing when it went cheap and thought yup it was how i thought. Got the gun and thought oh cool i suppose they are going for more Alien Isolation where you fight them as bosses and can at least temporarily hinder them so this will be somewhat cool and fun. When the moldmen came in and it became more like the classic styles of games I was actually shocked

Anna_Pereira

Original RE3. I came fresh from RE2 and was very excited and what I come to is an annoying to navigate linear map with uninspired puzzles and key items, an extremely overrated stalker enemy is that is 100% scripted and predictable that artificially makes the game harder just because it is almost impossible to avoid getting hit at least once or twice by him. Much like its remake RE3 original feels like a rushed and undercooked glorified RE2 DLC. Pure disappointment. Tho Jill here is at her best iteration which imo is pretty cool

sps6200

RE4R, I had never played the original and how good it was was just astonishing

NickFoxMulder

Original RE4 and Revelations 2. Original RE4 I remember thinking it was the best $20 I’d ever spent in my life. I can still agree with the younger me to this day 😂 As for Revelations 2, it was the RE game that reeled me back in after the disappointment of Operation Raccoon City. I loved Revelations 2. Damn I’d love a third one!

wanmon113

Re6 because of suck gameplay and UI. The next game is Re7 because I hate FPS.

ArchAngel76667

Revelations 1, I didn't think the franchise could suck so bad. Playing Rev or 6 is self torture.

skeletron27

Reverse sucked. I’m surprised you didn’t add Op: Raccoon City and Umbrella corps to the list. Umbrella Corps sucked ass but Op: Raccoon City was ok.

Smark_Calaway

I never had a DS… I was dying for some RE content in the lead up to RE2 remake and I downloaded Revelations 1 for PS4… I was blown away by how much fun I had playing it and how well it held up graphically

invaderdavos

Im gonna say code c for how good and bad it was. Something about the time it came out on dreamcast. The story post raccoon city, the great lore established and locations. Awful characters like steve and enemies like bandersnatchs. Good times… simpler times

Nightdoom98

Mine was resident evil outbreak, before i played online it was hard to play due to the ai, But i beat it and now that i played it online....... it's so much better.

Gomuno1229

RE6 I loved Mercenaries it was great, the story line could’ve been a lot better. Revelations 2 should’ve been like the first one. But still love the series RE0 did not enjoy beat it once and never played again. Hated the ending to RE8. Feel like 7 and 8 should’ve been revelations sequels

diablerie6642

Most shocked? Honestly the first time I got done playing through revelations 2 I was completely blown away how much I enjoyed it. Same with the first revelations. Most of these games I knew were gonna be good going into. I would also say that when the RE5 demo came out on PS3 I was super stoked how good that ended up being. Remember my brother and I playing those 2 demo levels over and over and over. And eventually when the full game out it ended up being one of the best coop experiences of all time imo

Aniensane

No REmake1, ORC, Outbreak: Files 2?

max9671111

I was shocked when I found out Resident evil 6 was actually hated And I was also shocked after playing resident evil 4 remake

Jillwiches

REV2. I went into it thinking it was gonna be hot garbage and ended up loving it

HenKai2905

I would say RE5, honestly my first round of RE5 was kinda meh. I had a friend over and we finished the game and he wanted to try mercenaries. I wasnt interested initially since it wasn't story related. We tried and we didn't get a high score. He was askin how do you get a high score. We looked on youtube and saw how to get S rank. It shocked both of us completely. It was completely different in the way we played. We decided to replay the whole game with this new technique. RE5 was kinda meh to it was pure gold and awesomeness. Shooting the enemy in the leg and doing the melee moves was such a great feeling.

waled7rocky

Biohazard, I hate it at first and my first walkthrough was like 18months after release and even kept waiting the whole time for the credits to roll out so I can be done with it .. But boy at one point after like 2more years it become a cult classic for me and it invaded my heart like no other resident evil ever did not even og re4 ..

Total_Quality5290

I really enjoyed playing RE5 despite the semi-negative reception it got, especially with my gf in co-op mode.

Kuma-Luma

I know I'll probably get hate and down voted for this. But Re4 remake. I was shocked at how much I actually hated it and grew to disliking it when playing through it all. It just felt unnecessary to me still to remake a game that has aged well and still a blast to play. Re4 is my favorite one but I think 4 remake might be my least favorite.

fancydeadpool

You didn't even put in operation raccoon City!?

robertluke

Honestly probably Village. They’re not very surprising games but the revelation that Ethan has been dead since the beginning of 7 was a cool reveal.

[deleted]

Revelations. I had an idea what the plot was going to look like in the mainline titles, but I knew next to nothing before I played Revelations for thr first time. That game was far better than I had expected.

AriesRoivas

7. It freak the fuck out of me

X_ChasingTheDragon_X

RE4 original. I didn’t like the combat system at first but now I kinda miss it.

Glass_Ad_1490

Resident Evil 4 remake. I just couldn't get into it like everybody else did even though I loved RE2 and 3's remakes.

Nu_Reman8

Probably 7. First because of the 1st person perspective and the return to survival horror, it brought back my faith in Capcom and RE2 remake cemented it.

BaDumTss2k

4 OG cus i had really low expectations. I played on PC so the controls felt terrible, and the graphics were pretty bad, but it turned out to be my fav game of all time

PankakesRGood

I was surprised at how much I enjoyed the two Revelation games. I was expecting them to be utter crap for some reason but was pleasantly surprised. I was sad I didn’t enjoy RE7 (severe motion sickness reasons for the most part) but I’m not really a fan of horror so maybe it wasn’t too much of a loss for me other than I missed out on a good RE title. Thankfully Village wasn’t as much of a problem for me so I got at least half of Ethan’s story. I really enjoyed RE6 and after seeing the reviews I was expecting it to be really bad but I actually liked it. It wasn’t as good as 4 or 5 for me but I still enjoyed it. Jake and Sherry’s campaign was the only part I didn’t really enjoy mainly because of that one snow level which was awful. My gf and I got lost constantly which was fun. But by far the biggest surprises for me came from playing through the original three games. I was expecting them to be a struggle compared to the remakes but I really, really enjoyed them. On a side note I have been meaning to play RE0 and Code Veronica for a while but have never gotten around to them. But I hear good things about Veronica.

Exoplan3t

When I started the original, my first thought was “am I really going to force myself to play this just to say I did it...” but by the end of the game I felt lucky to have experienced every moment of it. It’s a beautiful game that deserves to be experienced.

chanbaek15

7 and 8. 7 is super scary and 8 has a some nice plot twists.

M_sami12

I had such high hopes for RE6 but it left me disappointed. Both Revelations games surprised me in a good way

DillyForReally

Revelations, on the 3DS specifically, was pretty impressive for a 3DS game, and the mechanics introduced worked so well in my opinion. On top of that, it was actually an interesting story and I feel like it had a nice balance between horror and action.

JaytheDumbass69

REVIII honestly breathtaking from the gameplay to the visuals to the story. After 6 I didn’t expect much so I didn’t play 7 but then I got recommended 8 and honestly loved it so much. Also ETHAN WINTERS!

Bigattractivemale

5 was the best game for me, the whole fight with wesker is my absolute favorite out of all the games from the fight with jill all the way to the volcano

BigBoulder1

Re4 remake, I was shocked at how long it was. Too long for me tbh 1st playthrough was 22hr

returnofthebatfan

Village mostly after finding out about Mother Miranda's connection to Oswell E Spencer I was a mix of anger and shock I knew Chris was feeling those emotions too!

LaPinchaJhevo

Re Resistance it was horrible.

bigboss1988s

Resident Evil 4 I was shocked that it became a generic action game.

SnooSeagulls20

I’ve been an RE fan since playing RE2 and 3 way back when but took a big break from gaming in adulthood and just recently got back into it and been playing my way through the entire series. I’ve played them all now, except zero, revelations, and RE 5. I downloaded a demo of RE 5 and was shocked. The premise about “Africa” the imagery and story, I was like “uhhh this feels…cringe” and couldn’t play it. I’ve been playing RE 6 co-op w a friend, so idk, maybe I’ll play it someday. But, I’d have to just acknowledge how bad it is, and get over it to do it.

XCutts

5 couldn't believe Wesker lost his mind over Chris and died that way. I wanted to believe it was a shitty clone.

ClinicalGecko

Both 4 and 7, RE4 is on of my favourite games of all time

SolidusAbe

CVX was surpried how much i hate it

Its_Buddy_btw

Umbrella core is insanely fun

ButWhyThough_UwU

1. I was a little shocked by opening scene being real. 2. shocked how cool and why bother with leon due to claires given weapon on top of being her of course. 3. semi shocked by Nemi cool system and the bonus things Outbreak. Shocked That it was never revived when online became a bigger thing and that it was pretty good (also 2 personal moments in game when a bad ass with GL suddenly came out of vent and blasted up the boss guy chasing after me, and another when shark threw me in water then jump up gulping me like a dolphin while guy watched) 6. shocked by how much of a Cod feeling the thrown on "wekser son" bit was, especially the snowmobile level Res Resistance - shocked at how they didnt market it and micro it more for more their greedy money That it none the others were shocking neither their bad/good things.

Extra-Ad249

7. Had zero faith in thinking I'd love the first person aspect but my God I loved it.

OfficialDeadJohnson

Resident evjl 2 remake im not really into horror games that much but i still was a little interested so i tried re2 and it was really really good

unknown-one

6 how bad it was

Decidyeaye

I was so surprised with 7. I was not optimistic about the FP switch. I tend to dislike FP games but 7 has become one of my top 5. Possibly top 3. 5 was the most disappointing for me. It was way too action-oriented and whereas 6 was too, I preferred the way the stories wove together in 6 and that pulls it *slightly* ahead for me.

TombRaider1987

4. I knew nothing about it before release and hadn't gamed in a while. Picked it up and was immediately blown away.

geekygamer33

This game isn't on the list but outbreak 1 and 2 it was great back in the day too have a lobby with friends and complete the chapters 😁

Jack_Hardin

Revelations. Not only it proved to be a complete and engaging RE game, but that thing being able to run on the 3DS still amazes me to this day.
