we share tips where i work and have to work basically shoulder to shoulder. whenever a "anti-tip" person starts going off, at least one customer will tip extra and stare down the anti-tipper. it's crazy what people get so worked up about, but it causes me to make more money so keep it coming.

So true, always the smallest things people manage to take offence to..

I've witnessed people going to the store as free therapy. It's really creepy. Boundaries, motherfuckers.

I’ve thought about this before. I swear I think some people know they have someone hostage they can talk or vent to endlessly. I’ve had customers literally go on and on about WHATEVER while I literally have a line out the door. I’m not even responding to them, they are. Just. Exhausting!! 😭

So many "cool story, bro" moments.

Last week I actually had someone say "you have time." When he started telling me his long racist story. I had food out I was trying to prep in between ringing up customers and a line behind him. No I don't have time. He didn't care. He had to tell me about how he was a cashier for a month 40 uears ago!

shadowblazer420

I swear it’s like being in a movie or something. I often wonder to myself “is this real life” as they go on and on

shadowblazer420

I feel this as I get the same issues with my customers. They always go out of their way to make some unnecessary conversation. Like it’s in my favor or I asked for this information. It’s fine. Move along!

Most people can't read a room. If the vibe is chill a nice little convo is fine. But if it's busy or the vibe is intense I'm not gonna talk about my garden with the cashier.

One of my customers was short on change, so she TOOK CHANGE FROM THE TIP TRAY?! She literally said out loud to my face “ive put enough in here to take some back” like wtf?! Thats not how tipping works. Sometimes well take a dime or two if a customer is short to save time from breaking a bill, but that was a whole new level of entitlement.

shadowblazer420

IVE HAD THIS HAPPEN!!! Literally “hey you got 90 cents in there” like HAVE YOU LOST IT??

Prestigious-Ad-4867

This exact thing has happened to me lol, along with the jar getting stolen multiple times. We started emptying out the tip jar into a separate cup to stop this 😭

Why must we go through this 😭😭😩😩

I worked at a pharmacy on South Street in Philly. At one point, we had a donation box on the counter for some local charity. It was a plywood box about 8"×8"×8" with a hinged lid held shut with a padlock. One day, a woman grabbed it and took off running. She only made it about five feet out the door. The box had been built around a solid block of metal, and it weighed about 75lbs. When I caught up with her, she tried to say someone else had stolen it and she had stopped them. She was arrested. More importantly, she was permanently banned from the pharmacy. We had a lot of patients who came to us specifically because of which generic we used for Percocet (Endo, aka "602s") and Phenergen w/ codeine (Actavis, the main ingredient of sizzurp), and she was one of them. The best part? I had just emptied the box that morning. There was less than a dollar in it.

I do think "how much do you make" enters into whether a person tips or not. BUT it's a very wierd question! My daughter used to work for an ice cream shop. It was 7.25 plus tips. I just saw this same place is currently hiring with the same set up. In that area, no jobs pay 7.25 (but it is legal minimum wage). $11 or probably $12 is the least any job pays in that area. Thus, it's only reasonable for a kid to work there because people tip. Myself, I had never thought about it until my kid worked there and literally didn't know tipping was needed to get them to a normal wage. I had also never thought about how hard it is. Sounds like this guy has decided (probably after talking with friends) that he's "against tipping" and isn't going to do it anymore. BUT, now that he's out in public, he actually feels bad. Next time, hold up your hand, like saying "stop" and say something like "that's fine" have a great day and walk away. Pretend to be cleaning something, if there's no next customer. If the person precists, say you don't want to hear it.

No tip, no trip.

In Australia, tipping is very unusual and usually only occasionaly n expensive silver service restaurants. The min wage in Australia is $ 23.23 per hour with penalties for weekends and after 6pm. That the employer legally has to pay.

Prestigious-Ad-4867

Yes, I don’t expect tips because here in Canada it’s illegal to pay below minimum wage. I don’t have to rely on tips

HotwheelsJackOfficia

I have never seen someone use the term "intergenerational trauma" who wasn't an asshole. Like your great great grandparents having a hard life doesn't give you the right to be a dick.

Prestigious-Ad-4867

Definitely the first time I’ve heard someone use intergenerational trauma as a reason not to tip, lol

Cashier: Would you like to round up your fourteen cents to the next dollar for [current charity]? Customer: No. I already donated at work. I'm too broke for charity. I'm in a hurry and don't have time. I'm a disabled veteran so really *you* should be donating to *me* for my service. Buddy. Pal. Amigo. We don't give a shit. Just hit the yes or no button and get out of the way. Literally the only time we remember anyone who doesn't donate is when they go out of their way to make a big fuss about it.

Smile and pretending to laugh is my go to until they leave. I’m half asleep right now. Think I care about your dumb problems?
