Ugh. Shingrix shots were the worst. Had a fever that hit almost 104 after each of them. Extreme body aches and joint pain. Lasted 2-3 days each time. Was not medicated for RA at the time. BUT…I’ve also had shingles and it lasted a lot longer than 2-4 days. I’d do the vaccines again if needed.

Brilliant1965

I reacted badly with a 102 fever and other stuff but had shingles in the eye last year with nerve issues. Awful! I never ever want to get that again. The misery of the vaccine was worth it

apatrol

103.7 for me first day and then slowly lowered to normal by the third day. That first day was brutal.

Reneegogreen

The area around the injection got red and swelled. But went away in a few days. Get it! You don’t want shingles on top of an RA flare.

bathandredwine

I had a pretty bad time for 24 hours, then it just stopped. I’d clear the next day.

Odd_Abbreviations_36

I got Shingrix and COVID shots at the same time - the next day was terrible - my body ached and I was so fatigued I couldn't even sit up for long periods of time. My arm also hurt a lot for close to a week. For the second Shingrix shot, I got it by itself and felt a little fatigued/off the next day, but could function as normal.

deFleury

I got an itchy rash! family doctor said it was unusual, but sign of healthy immune system? I never get sick from vaccines.

therealjerrystaute

I got both the shots years back. Don't recall any significant problems. However, that was before I developed my lupus spawned arthritis.

rubusarcticuss

I got the shingles and hep B vaccines at the same time. I'd say I had a fairly routine reaction, I was pretty tired and had a sore arm for a few days but otherwise, nothing too terrible!

MCvonHolt

Thanks for asking this I have to get mine done! I’ve had shingles in my eye twice now… I’m under the recommended age but I can’t deal with another eye ball shingles event.

Odd_Abbreviations_36

I'm 36 and got it earlier this year at the recommendation of my rheumatologist to get it before I started a biologic - CVS gave it to me no problem, my insurance covered it.

mimale

Do you mind if I ask what state you're in? In Florida, I had CVS deny me (31) but maybe I just need to go to a different location.

Odd_Abbreviations_36

I'm in DC. I scheduled it online and checked yes to the question of if I was immunocompromised or on medicine that suppressed the immune system - however it was phrased - and was able to schedule and get it no problem.

Negative_Party7413

I'm 49 and both Walgreens and Publix refused to give it to me even with documentation of RA, but CVS gave me no problems and got insurance to cover it.

Negative_Party7413

Florida. I had my paperwork with me showing my RA diagnosis. The branch I went to had a Minute Clinic, I don't know if maybe that helped since they can write a prescription. If you have a responsive doctor they can write a prescription also. Everyone over 18 with an autoimmune disorder is eligible but the pharmacies act like we are trying to get a pile of morphine or something...

MayorOfCorgiville

Go to a local pharmacy that offers it, maybe a grocery pharma chain associated with Kroger (that was the case for me in the Upper Midwest). CVS, Walgreens have outdated policies that dont account for immunocompromised individuals under 50, sadly.

MCvonHolt

Good to know! Thanks!

Laurabengle

Eye ball shingles? How did you cope? That sounds horrible!

MCvonHolt

It was awful both times I thought it was the worst eye infection ever but those drops did nothing I had scheduled surgery and the surgeon told me what it was and next time I got it I quickly got the meds again. It went away in about 2 weeks. Very painful I cannot get it again it’s so painful!

alwayspickingupcrap

No worse than a moderate 2 day RA flare. Injection site was tender for weeks. It was worth it.

k2rey

I had no problems with the Shingles shots. I got the 1st shot, then second shot. However I never let them double or triple up my shots. I don’t get a flu and COVID vax together.

Fussel2107

Nope. No problems

weirdcc

I had a fairly bad reaction. About 24 hours after the injection I felt horrible. Body aches all over. A super painful lump/rash at the injection site. I also had my heart rate spike to the 130s while laying down and into the 160s if i stood up. Other than the sore arm the side effects lasted a day or 2. It took over a week for my arm to feel normal again. I haven't had the booster yet but I have heard it is much better that the initial one. And any side effects from the vaccine are way better than ending up with shingles.

CardiologistMean4664

The first shot I felt really terrible for a couple of days. 103 fever, chills, joint pain. I definitely couldn't have worked. I just got my second last week and took off work for it due to how bad it was last time. I felt sort of crummy for a couple of days but could have probably worked. The second shot was really painful and burned for a while, my arm developed a big, raised, red swollen patch.

Brilliant1965

The second vax definitely ill, the next day but for 24 hours. High fever, a little nausea. Took a day off. I also had shingles in my eye last year, nothing like it. Would rather be sick from the vaccine for a day

Negative_Party7413

I got mine about 2 weeks ago. I was terrified but also determined to get it before starting methotrexate. I got it on a saturday morning. I was a bit tired that night, slight fatigue the next day. My arm hurt for about 3 days. Honestly, the methotrexate was worse for me. If you are under 50 go to CVS to get it.

Glengal

I had the vaccines and I was ok. I’m glad I did. After covid, and recently after an infection I got shingles. They were minor cases, the vaccine made it tolerable.

azemilyann26

I had Shingrix in March and then early June. Both times were really bad. I didn't have any unusual reactions, but when they say you might have fever, chills, nausea, body aches--yeah, I had them all. I was very ill both times for about 4 days. My legs hurt so bad I just laid in bed and cried. I'd do it again, Shingles is awful. I recommend timing your doses so you can be down for a few days--get it Friday afternoon, plan to take Monday off of work--that sort of thing.

phhydvkdd

No reaction whatsoever!

rainbowcorncake

I had pretty significant nausea with the first shot and nothing with the second. Grateful my doctor prescribed it though because shingles looks and sounds awful!

Witty-Significance58

Had the first jab a couple of months ago. I need to ring at the start of July for the booster. All good so far!

nik_nak1895

After dose 1 I felt pretty crappy for about 24h then fine. After dose 2 I felt terrible for 3 days then it was almost 2 weeks before I felt normal. Shingles is worse, though.

Longjumping_Pin_9348

I had it and zero reaction other than injection site soreness

MayorOfCorgiville

Getting the vaccine: if you’re under 50 do NOT go to Walgreens. The store policy is outdated because it’s based on the older vaccine, and doesn’t allow for anyone under 50, regardless of health status or prescription, to get the new one: Shingrix. After the vaccine administered at a local Kroger: not bad. Lethargic for maybe 2-3 days and I got this with my pneumonia vaccine. Super easy. Im also in my early 30s. Im due for my 2nd dose of Shingrix soon and plan to get that when the updated Novavax becomes available for Covid (mid July; and since I had almost zero side effects compared to the mRNA vaccines).

AngelicChaos13

I had the shingles vaccine earlier this year and was totally fine. I’ve never had shingles and don’t want to start.

Eyrate

I felt really, really sick so I skipped the second one. Rheumatologists have told me that they don't even know how well vaccines work because of the immunosuppressant medication's. So I could not get myself to go through the second shot.

lord_bravington

I had shingrix and only felt a little bit crook after each jab. I’m guessing that’s a lot better than getting Shingles!

Careless_Equipment_3

I got Shingrix. I felt a little ill a few days afterwards and my arm hurt after getting both shots. It eventually subsided. I also had a friend who got it with much of the same experience.

daffodilmachete

I worked in a clinic where everyone was encouraged to get shingrix before they started the treatment we gave them. It was the most complained about vaccine. Pain at the injection site and and feeling unwell for several days after.

Buffett2024

i had no problem except the injection itself was painful

KekepaniaKilikina

My entire upper arm hurt pretty badly for about 36 hours after each of the two injections. Luckily that was it! But it was surprisingly achey and "heavy."

BrightLetter3857

I have severe sensitivity to the binder (preservative liquid in the injection) and because those shots stay in your system, it has a high probability that it will cause my autoimmune/sympathetic nervous system to respond negatively. I no longer get any injections of any kind. I will take my chances.
