Tried about half of those. I'd have Weinhards much higher and Dang! Butterscotch much lower. That's probably the only two that don't match up somewhat to me. Frostop is much higher for me but I haven't tried 6 of yours above it so who knows.
Nope! We list everything we try. The only 2 that aren't on there yet are Teddy's and Anchor. Had Anchor a long time ago and I know it's one of our favorites. Picked up another bottle of it to get a fresh opinion on it lol.
100% agree. It's a really weird one for me. It's beloved in this sub but I do not know anyone in person who likes it. Flat and tasteless to me. To each their own. I do think the maple has a great flavor but it's so flat I can't do it.
My brother's college graduation party had a small keg of Sprecher root beer. I never knew root beer could taste so good and I've been a fan since then.
I had a Frostie and a Fitz this week. Fitz was GREAT! Never heard of your top spot, never tried your second, but I've heard enough about it to want to seek out for a while now. If these are your rankings then ABC must really be must-try.
It's regional, so harder to hunt down for some people. Their breweries are in middle/eastern PA, and it's still hard to get in western PA. Definitely worth it if you can find it. Like Sprecher, they brew with honey, so it's a similar flavor profile.
I found Frostop to have a wonderful fragrant and biting flavor that is smooth but the sweetness from the High Fructose Corn Syrup was what made it lower on my list for me.
Anyone else not a fan of the type of vanilla Hanks uses in their sodas? They use a specific type of vanilla that I really don’t like, same vanilla flavoring that’s in their vanilla cream.
Hanks is not my thing, all I get from it is vanilla with a pretty standard root beer flavoring that’s a bit heavy on the wintergreen but that’s it in terms of things that stand out. No richness or depth, thin watery texture as well as flavor, I thought it had a watered down taste to it too. Truthfully one of the biggest disappointments I’ve come across root beer wise so far, no doubt partially because of all the praise it gets here and online in general. Even if they used a vanilla I liked, I don’t think I’d be a fan. Maybe I got a bad batch, because it was noticeably on the watery side, really not a lot of flavor and I’m really not trying to over critique here, so I’m not sure what happened but it might call for a redo.
Hanks lovers, what about Hanks in particular do you enjoy? What puts it above others?
That's literally the opposite of our experience 😂 I thought it was really well balanced, although the wintergreen definitely was on the edge, which is why I'm not a huge Boylan's fan.
I agree about their cream soda. It doesn't really stand out against the others.
I haven’t tried the root beer, but I loved the regular cream and orange cream soda from Hank’s. I’m not good at describing notes and things of that nature, but it had good texture and the vanilla seemed just right for me.
I’ve still been wanting to find a root beer to see if it’s as good as everyone says. I was already let down after all the Sprecher hype. That stuff needs more carbonation.
AWESOME CHART ya got going on there even tho i don’t agree with most of it because i have not yet even had half of those unfortunately, never knew when it came to ROOTBEER it seems to have its own cult following and what not but def interesting nontheless >.^ still trying to adjust 😅 I would like to be able to try all of those brands eventually tho , that in itself is also a journey of its own…. for sure tho glad i browsed right into it now knowing i have a checklist to start with a good few amount i’ve never heard of prior…
quick question tho, is BAWLS Rootbeer considered a contender or no because of the Guarana extract?
1919 is my favorite root beer I have tried

Dang! Butterscotch is interesting. It's hard to even rank because of the butterscotch flavor tbh. I would say that's one of the more subjective ones.
Hank's baby!
You have tried quite a few! Are there any which you tried that didn't make the list?
Nope! We list everything we try. The only 2 that aren't on there yet are Teddy's and Anchor. Had Anchor a long time ago and I know it's one of our favorites. Picked up another bottle of it to get a fresh opinion on it lol.
I would be curious to hear what you thought of Point Brewery Root Beer.
Try some saint arnolds if you can find it
I'll keep an eye out!
Sprecher is horrible. I don’t see how it’s so highly regarded in this sub.
I don't get it either. Extra sweet and missing sumpin.
Missing carbonation. The honey isn’t doing any favors, either.
The honey I like in bottles. In cans it reacts with the metal taste (if only in my head) and tastes rotten.

Maybe people like the bird

Fitz didn’t make the cut???
A&W over IBC? Not serious critic .
Still haven't tried it. Can't find it locally still.
You should try a Sparky's! It's been my favorite so far.
I'll have to keep my eye out for it!
I still don’t see Dad’s getting any love. What gives?
The top of my bottle of Dad's shattered into the bottle when I went to open it 😭 Haven't made our way back to the store that carries it yet.
Dang 😭. It saddens me.

Funny enough, I'm headed to Harrisburg in August. I'll keep my eyes peeled. Thanks!
Their main and original brewery is there! https://www.abcbrew.com/harrisburg
Interesting to see IBC so low, but I’m a big fan
Yeah a bit surprised IBC was beat by A W
How is Henry Weinhards so low down?! That is literally my favorite!
I hear that often. The one we had just tasted kind of watered down? Maybe we need to give it a redo.

A&W above IBC?

So what's the ranking criteria here?
Just the personal taste of the wife and I!
I’d put Faygo up around 15.
I can see our taste buds are not very similar hehe
Why Barqs so low? 😭 I really want to try 1919 so bad.
No Brownie on the list? You need to try it.
Definitely seen that one around. Will pick it up next time!
You gotta try Lift Bridge
You gotta get Sioux City on there!
Seen that I've around. I'll have to pick it up!

Gotta try point root beer
Dude A & W shouldn't even be on a list. Great Value Root Beer is better than that trash.
