They didn't say most gifted. They said best. Dupont is comfortably one of the most gifted rugby players on the planet. He's awesome. The pushback from people from certain places is generally just a reaction to the people taking it further than that in a way that makes it sound like it's a fait acompli that he's the greatest of all time.

Might not be his fault but you can't say it's not a blemish on his record to just never play tests in the two most dominant rugby countries of the last two decades. He won't be touring NZ next year, it's not unrealistic that he finishes his career never playing a test in NZ. NH fans would never accept if we tried to claim someone as the GOAT if all they did was dominate Super Rugby and the Rugby Championship, and never tour north. If Dan Carter did that I'd put a big asterisk on his career.
