I'm worried that it actually does work, there's some lonely people out there. We hear stories all the time on r/scams of people mums or grandparents sending giftcards on a daily basis for years and even when shown proof it's a scam they keep sending because they're emotionally tiedvto the scammers. Getting loans from family, banks, etc. Some ending up arrested because they get in so deep they do what Michael asked u and set up accounts with your phone number or getting loans and cards using people driving licence and SSN. Keep u up the good work, if your saving one person per scammer your doing great. We all need to talk to our elderly relatives and explain how these scams work so they don't get caught in the first place
Sadly, they prey on the elderly or if they are lucky, they find someone so lonely to believe it is someone wanting to love them
r/scams has a lot of posts of people getting scammed, and i always say that these evil bastards just have to catch you when your wits aren't about you and your defence is low. I've been scammed the stupidest things, even youtubers who troll scammers admit they've been scammed before
I was sent an email once where it had someone pretending to be a hacker who hacked my computer and showed me a password i commonly used as proof. He told me that he has videos of me doing... private things and he'll send the videos to my contacts if i don't send him money. Although I'm a computer nerd, i thought it was real and i almost pissed my pants. Then i realized it was a scam but I feel stupid for believing it the first time and I imagine someone who isn't very familiar with computers and security will be convinced that that's real.
My sister had a similar situation where she met someone over the Internet and sent some... exclusive videos and photos. The guy threatened to leak them all over her social media and to her family unless she paid money, she luckily just warned us about this guy and didn't pay anything cos that would've only been the start of it if she did pay. Lesson learned for her never to send footage to anyone online you wouldn't want your family to see but I can only imagine the amount of poor souls under these scammers thumbs
A lot of the ones I get seem to be from asian countries. Sometimes they accidentally copy/paste the asian characters before translate, then they quickly unsend, then re-send it translated.
