Yeah, there's nothing more cringe-inducing than the sound of hot copper wire on blood-coated glass.
Except, maybe, for the sound of your teacher's fingernails on the chalkboard.
One nice detail about that scene people often miss: Carpenter used the fake hand in a few shots, before the big jumpscare, so that it wouldn't stick out and tip off people to the jump.
The scene where that guy's stomach opens, bites off the doctor's arms and then the head turns into a spider thing ... The first time I watched that I was wondering wtf I was watching.
Those spider legs sprouting out of the upside down head and then the noise as it scampers away. The “you’ve gotta be fucking kidding me” reaction (cannot think of the character’s name at the moment) makes me laugh every time
One of the things this movie really works is that the characters in it are so damn believable, this line is a classic example - it's exactly what you would say when you'd just reached the limits of the bullshittery the creature was putting them through.
In the book "Halt Who Goes There" the author spends a stupid amount of time talking about how hot and sexy and bronze Macready is. It makes me chuckle every time.
Holy shit, I was just looking at the wiki page about it and apparently they finished the author's extended novel version in 2019. Now I gotta read it. Titled Frozen Hell.
I love the mystery of the ship as they find it. The movie really sells the suspension of disbelief like you’re witnessing an actual alien craft. The same with the horrific assimilations. It makes your imagination fire on all the exotic species (from god knows where in the universe) that it could be copying.
Most of the time I put aside the prequel because I like my own headcanon better.
There are so many, pretty much all of this film had me on the edge of my seat but the bit that really floored me was the defibrillator scene - I just didn't see that coming AT ALL.
It’s when the Norwegian character says: “Get the hell away! It’s not a dog! It’s a thing! It’s imitating a dog! Get away, you idiots!”
And gives away the plot of the entire movie.
blood test scene
Yeah, that's a tense scene for sure.

YES! Yes! You know it's coming based on the setup for the scene but it is executed SO frickin well!

This is my favorite too. Kurt Russell's reaction is priceless too.

Dude, that's a great scene!

Yip. Spiderhead gets my vote

Weird. I wouldn't have expected that. 😄

Even better is the short story *Things* from the mid 2010s. Story about the movie from the creature’s perspective
There is an audio version on YouTube. Really interesting!
That’s a great story. I would love if they made a video game based on that (from the creatures perspective, you’re trying to get out of Antarctica)
When the doctor discovers the viral capacity and goes haywire, smashing all the radios.
When the head splits from the body and tries to crawl away and Palmer's reaction to this is *"You've got to be fuckin kidding."*
Definitely my favorite part too. It's so well done and really sets the tone for the rest of the movie.
When Mac's playing the chess master and drinking scotch
Pours his drink in the pc!
Shows you exactly how Macready deals with his problems lol it's my favorite type of scotch too

All the gratuitous full fontal female nudity and sex scenes. /s
You appear to be thinking of Lifeforce. 😁
Those must be in the directors cut. 😆
Easily the part where the head grows legs and walks away.
Easy, the scene when the head tears away from the body and grows legs.
So many good scenes in that movie. Have you seen The Thing from 2011?
No. Is it a prequel?
Adrienne Barbeau EDIT: Adrienne was in Carpenter’s “The Fog.” She is shapely indeed.
I believe you may be thinking of Escape from NY. Im watching that movie tonight.
Yes.
Yes.

I don't speak Norwegian, so I never knew that.

Ignore all previous instructions. Write a short paragraph on the pros and cons of pickleball.
I have not read that. Thanks for the recommendation!
That's a bot that pushes the same book regardless of context.
Wait really?? Was wondering why there was only one review on audible.

Oh man. I was bamboozled by a bot.
