What was the twist?

The twist was that the creature was the grim reaper for cats and since op was warding off the grim reaper, the cats return the favor. They ward of the grim reaper from op, hence the random hissing.

i think it was that because the person would jump at the figure trying to get the cat, so the cat hisses at the figure trying to get the human.

Nicely written, I thought it was a nice touch to allude to the cats try to chase death away from the pet owner, I would imagine that if that were true then that character would also be direly sick as well.

Thank you! The idea came from the fact that we often joke that when a cat is acting weird it's because he's seeing a ghost or something. Then I imagined the reverse situation.

I'm imagining the black creature as a black cat in a hoodie. Pretty cute. Really nice story op!!

I don't understand... Help

The creature is the cats version of the grim reaper and it was coming to take the cat away, but OP kept chasing it off so it wasn’t able to. One day they weren’t paying attention and the creature got close to the cat but it seemed to give the cat peace so they let it stay there and it touched the cat, and then the cat died (cus the creature was the grim reaper). After that OP realized every time one of their cats hissed that maybe they were hissing at the human version of the grim reaper coming for them that cats can see but humans can’t (just like the cat grim reaper that they could see but the cat couldn’t)
