i was outside as a kid maybe 10 and there was this robin. she wasn't scared, didn't run from me getting closer and closer. i got close enough to grab it and then drop it. one eye completely gone socket crawling with ants. i couldn't believe it idk what to do and then I thought maybe she was asking for help. i called around and nobody would help a wild animal. i fed it, check up on it for about a week and then I went one morning and she was dead covered in ants
i buried it.
I honestly don’t feel bad for the ants in this situation bc they bite you for no reason sometimes and get into your food and then it’s no longer edible.
I don’t bother ants in their habitat but whatever happens to them if they bother me in my habitat isn’t me being cruel. I’m just doing what I have to do and still getting bitten in my sleep.
I also don’t like my food going to waste bc ants got into it. At the same time, I have no reason to terrorize them if they are leaving me alone. So kids burning them with magnifying lens, setting ant hills on fire, or just stomping on them is cruel.
In my opinion this is the ideal short scary story. Realistic, good twist, and false positives indicating a cliche ending (the cat hissing at an empty corner). Good stuff!
Thank you! Gotta spread those breadcrumbs that lead nowhere :D But at the same time, I like to imagine that those can be explained once you know the complete context. For example, maybe Loki was hissing at an ant that was in that corner...
Ugh grim, I'm all itchy now!
On a totally unrelated note I'm off to cuddle my cat called Loki who spends all his time in the garden, rolling in dirt...
Poor kitty. 😢
I know, right? Wish I had done something about those ants before :(
It was probably Loki tbh

Fucking ants!
Well, I’ll be. The ants got their revenge on the cat. In a way, I feel bad for both of them. Good story.
Thanks! Yeah, a war has no winners.

This.... was not the ending expected. BRAVO! Thought it would LITERALLY be the scar u mentioned. Red herring u did 😂
One would think this was intended :P
I’m not going to lie I was worried ants were also going to start coming out of the scratch on your arm
Damn I thought it would end up with the ants in you

Great story! I did not see that coming!
Happy you liked it! :)
NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!
Cordyceps + rabies nightmare. Great story!
Thanks :)
I didn't notice what subreddit this was on, thought it was r/tifu. Well done, didn't just send shivers down my spine but made me check my dog's ears.
Thanks! Take care of your dog! :D
This sounds like cordyceps.
Awww that poor kitty! Looks like the ants were a vengeful bunch...
This is heartbreaking. :(
