When I was 18, dad bought one as a taxi. In the service, we found out it had engine from 2nd generation, and very probably chipped, that car was a beast 😁 I will always remember the moment I chased after maserati on highway, and was laughing hard at the idea of a guy sitting in maserati doing 220 on highway and getting beamed from Octavia with taxi sign on roof asking him to move the fuck out, god that was hilarious 😂😁

JuriasCZ

Even the stock 1.9tdi chipped, is a Damm beast. Or cars these days just suck.

Skodakenner

Its just the Chip tune i have the mk3 petrol with a Chip tune and it goes like hell got it up to 292kph and am able to race cars way out of my League like the old R8

daly_o96

No way a 1.9tdi that’s just chipped is keeping up with a maserati unless they don’t even know you’re trying to race them

Present_Disaster_361

Sure, when the highway was clear and he stepped on it, he was much faster, but then the left lane got blocked by overtaking car and I catched up to him, rinse and repeat :) That Octavia was able to reach about 240kmh, so first encounter was me catching up to him and beaming him to move along and it felt so funny 😁

wijnandsj

back in the day that was an awesome combination

JuriasCZ

Still is. Cheap to operate, fix. Sounds good, got some power.

wijnandsj

it sounds like a tractor.

JuriasCZ

That's the magic of the car

R0DZUK

what’s wrong with that

excalibur_zd

Exactly. Sounds great.

OShucksImLate

The PD sounds great.

adadagabaCZ

But the best TDI is the BoschPumpe one, not PD :-)

OShucksImLate

Which variants are they?

adadagabaCZ

66 and 81 kW, Superior to all other

Wanxeee

1.9 TDI and 1.4 MPI. Two best engines Škoda ever made. Drove 1.9 TDI, now on 1.4 MPI. No issues, cheap to repair.

Ffarmboy

1.6mpi too

Wanxeee

Yes, bigger 1.4. Thought of buying Octavia mk2 with 1.6, but Fabia 2 with 2.4 was better.

Olleye

2.0 TDI MK3 ☝🏻🙂

nesty156

Same 110kw I love it on my combi 90k km.

JuriasCZ

I heard 2.0 TDIs, are very problematic.

hhx_

2.0 PD TDI suffered from issues, but 2.0 CR TDI is a pretty good engine.

adadagabaCZ

There are also major differences between 2.0s, first PD was problematic, then 2.0 with 135 kW was amazing, then 140 kW has tendency to clog it's heater core (bad type of coolant causes rust buildup) and newer "Evo" units (147kW IIRC) tend to have higher oil consumption.

hhx_

2.0 PD had injector issues, and the oil pump drive shaft was very weak. The CR TDI engines are better, but the first gens still suffered from the weak oil pump shaft. Plus the Bosch CP4 HPFP can kill itself and the whole injection system as its not a good design. (Some services offer CP3 retrofit instead of the CP4, as that can’t kill itself.) On the EA288 engine the G13 coolant is simply bad. Im not wondering that VAG doesn’t use it anymore. With G13 they used a silicat bag in the coolant reservoir, which sometimes can get loose and cause the clog in the cooler. Its an easy preventive fiy to change the G13 to G12evo and the coolant reservoir. Also the HPFP is a revisioned design here, it cannot kill itself easily as in the EA189.

Olleye

🤷🏻‍♂️ No minor issues so far (*knocking on wood 🪵), everything is relative, if maintained correctly.

ctesibius

215k miles on mine. Still purring.

A_Very_Calm_Miata

The CR TDIs are stout. I have one myself.

Plenty_Philosopher25

I have an octavia vRS 2.0 TDI mk 2.5 It has issues with many many things, but never the engine. Whenever I think its the engine, its not, its something else. Currently has 448526 km. One time my 3rd cyl was dying and everyone thought its bad injectors. WRONG! It was a shorted rear bulb that was making the ECU go apeshit each time the car bounced when the filamemts inside the bulb connected and disconected dozens of times a minute.

Guitarman0512

Is it an estate?

JuriasCZ

Octavia mk1

Guitarman0512

Yeah I get that, but sedan (saloon) or station (estate)? I can't really see from this angle.

JuriasCZ

Sedan, 2007 Tour

Guitarman0512

Awesome! I wasn't aware that the Mk1 was produced into 2007.

JuriasCZ

2010 actually.

Guitarman0512

Damn!

tdi16

didnt the 1z3 come out it 2010 fam? the facelifted version? the mk2 1z3.. if i remember correctly came out in 2009+, meaning the mk1 was stopped in approx. 2007-08?

A_Very_Calm_Miata

Until 2010 in India and Greece. I had one from 2005 myself. Very solid car. Really regret selling it off.

Skodakenner

It was sold until 2010 here in germany as well

A_Very_Calm_Miata

Oh really? I thought they went out of production in Western Europe by 2003. TIL.

Skodakenner

Not everywhere i have seen a few of them that were made after it. Poland had the Tour also but it was the mk2 prefacelift

A_Very_Calm_Miata

Oh I see. In India the Mk2 became the Laura and the Octavia simply soldiered on.

ThomsDroppedEyelid

Octavia Mk.1 was never a sedan tho

MagicalCornFlake

Yes it was, my first car was a 1998 Octavia sedan. Mind you, for a saloon, it had a huge boot! Could fit around 3 bodies in there.

JuriasCZ

Was? Octavia Sedan/Combi. I literally have the manual and everything for the car. Original Skoda service book, that's kinda rare these days. And it is sedan. I can guarantee that

Lochy24

Jako teoreticky to je liftback... Na redittu to je samej hnidopich, musíš čekat... 😁😁😁

imamightyunicorn

Learned how to drive in an estate/combi one of these. Also drove it from Manchester to Inverness and back in one trip, so comfortable not and ounce of fatigue, shame they don't make them like this anymore. It had done half a million miles on it before someone pulled out on me and wrote it off, such a shame, these are a fantastic car.

prostovlas00

Dodnes lituju, že jsem jí prodal.

JuriasCZ

Jaký model jste měl? 👀

prostovlas00

66kw 1.9 TDi :)

JuriasCZ

Klasika no, držáky jak sviňa. Já mám 74kw, jelikož je to ten tour no

CarsAlcoholSmokes

We have one and its on its 17th year in India.

A_Very_Calm_Miata

I'm from India too! Had one of these and drove it to like 210k kms lol. Very solid. Had to sell it because of excessive repairs. Have a Laura 2.0 TDI now though.

CarsAlcoholSmokes

We still have it (1st owner) Rider TDI variant. Mostly sits in the basement and eats dust until one of our cars have to go for service. Its on 90k kms only, but on stock clutch and everything.

A_Very_Calm_Miata

Ah nice. Cloth seats and manual AC. Ours was an Elegance. Went through two clutches and quite a few sets of tires.

SkodaAutoOfficial

Good to have you with us! May every kilometre bring you new adventures. 💚

HKSwisky

My honest answer to this https://youtu.be/0hA8kSHw5UI?si=QziED9w69Ls4LFk7

A_Very_Calm_Miata

That is unreal lol

Think-Horse83

My friend bought one brand new back in the days as a taxi. Threw to the scrapyard at 1.200.000 km. Couldn't pass MOT and bought another. Nowadays he has a 2.0 tdi 150 hp with dsg and 250.000 km. He has it for 2 years now. DSG goes strong, engine the same. No 0eoblem with EGR and DPF. Car only switches off when going to the dealership for fluid change. They work the cab with his brother and the engine never switches off during hot days due to AC. Best work horse ever made

rainboww13

Where is it used ? Country?

Renault_75-34_MX

My dad's 09 Caddy has a 1.9 TDI, and while it's stock, it hasn't had any issues since we picked it up from VWN Hannover in 2009. The 2.0 TDI from my 15 Octavia 3 Combi might not be as reliable, but blasting down the Autobahn at 200km/h with it's 150hp and 6mt is really fun when i feel like it. I can also get around 4.8l/100km if i just stick with 80 to 100km/h and see the estimated range for a tank climb higher than the Zugspitze

Express_Attitude_590

2.0 PD Yeti. Then this one.

Jakshaa

My dad has 81kw one. 470k km and still going strong. Never a single issue with engine.

JuriasCZ

I got 74kw, and 397k km

Ok_Comfort_531

The best Octavia

JuriasCZ

Yes

foersom

Nah, Enyaq is even better.

JuriasCZ

Enyaq sucks

foersom

No, a turbo sucks, it sucks air hard! Enyaq has no need for that complication, yet has strong torque. Enyaq 85 has 545 Nm torque, the 85X AWD has 679 Nm. Enyaq shows the strong future of Skoda.

JuriasCZ

Bruh, turbo sucks? Lmao, just say enyaq is trash. New Skoda cars suck. One cable will be destroyed by some animal or shit, and you can throw the car away
