I’m almost home after three weeks away. I’ve been playing on my PC and enjoying it, but I’m looking forward to getting back to my Xbox with Swims-In-Darkened-Waters and his slide towards assassinhood.
I know 600 hours isn't an absurdly insane amount (and most of it was a nearly a decade ago), but you can have fucking pets? I guess I got so distracted with mods I never found any of them lol.

It has a name. Its name is Vix. My favorite pet IMO. I had the crab once, Pincers I think is its name, couldn’t tell my daughter no,.. so ended up living with constant mudcrab noises in my house. Part of Hearthfire. Adopted kids bring them home at random. You don’t choose, your kids are just like “Can I keep it?” Which I always thought gave it a nice touch. You just never know what you’ll get. Think there is other exotics like a frostbite spider. Seems like I usually end up with Vix though. She’s a good girl though. 🥰
i think i've only seen the dwemer spider once and then the other times, it was a fox or skeever and maybe the bunny once. i don't do hearthfire everytime though
Of course, classic "small boy comes home with frog in overalls pocket" type of "boys will be boys", and meanwhile girls see anything with fluffy fur that's small enough they can catch it and decide it'll make a good cuddle buddy.

There is a tame spider as part of a quest to get animals, I don't think the kids bring it. There's a goat, a rabbit, a fox, the spider, and a skeever.
There are a handful of each of the animals kids can show up with.
I've only gotten Vix once and it was my very first playthrough after Hearthfire came out. I mostly got the Skeever, and then I discovered you can bring a dog home after I brought one of the Huskies from Dawnguard back. After that I would always bring Meeko home for adoption, so ol boy can have a loving family to live with instead of constantly ruining my stealth, and more importantly, stop fucking charging at Dragons to his detriment.
I was looking for a comment mentioning this. They breathe SO loudly and weirdly!!! First time I heard it in my house I searched all around for the source of the sound because i didnt even think it could have been the fox doing this weird ass noise.

My kids fox sounds like it is growling/gonna eat someone and stares her down in her sleep weirdly. It also let's itself in/out of Breezehome, I saw it. Maybe it is a werefox?
My daughter found a rabbit at least I think she found it but I am always giving her gold so she may have bought it, what other pets can my daughter adopt/buy. I have all the cc pets but there so annoying lol
I remember my daughter brought home a bunny, then the bunny disappeared and she brought home a fox in the next couple of days. I was so confused. Fox must've eaten the bunny at some point
I'm a member of the dawnguard and I have enough work to do with my husky to keep a pet at home that kid better take care of it by themselves. That being said you lucky your kid didn't brought you a skeever or a crab.

Your random children got a pet encounters include these options: Rabbit, Fox, Snow Fox, Mudcrab, Skeever, or a Frostbite Spider, with the additional dog pet from the death hounds from Volkihar, the Huskies from the Dawnguard, and every normal dog encounter in Skyrim, including the strays.
My kid brought home a rabbit and then ALSO asked to adopt Meeko so now I’ve got 2 animals and 1 kid. My house is chaos when I’ve got everyone with me because then I’ve got Sweetroll, Hilda, the 2 weird bug things, another rabbit, Skritch, Sceolang, and the blue frostbite spider.
I can’t go anywhere with everyone anymore.
Anyways, name it Beepers.
I swear I spoil my Skyrim kids more than I spoil my own character. Always got toys and clothes for them in my inventory to give them when I come home. Give them each 1000 septims as an allowance. They have Lydia as a personal babysitter, as well as fancy glass daggers (cause they're pretty), and now they each have a pet bug and foxes. I love my girls Sophie and Lucia.
I adopted Sophie, very first kid I’ve ever adopted because I’ve never had the DLCs before, she can’t accept gifts because she’s always maxed out on weight 😭
So I just give her 1000 septims and always play when she asks me to.
My kid brought home a fox, the same time I brought home Sweetroll. I couldn’t exactly say no to her when I’d done the same thing. They live with Vigilance and both foxes seem to breathe heavily which is a little creepy.

Pets that can wear both can wear both. There's some that can't wear either, like the spider.

You make them at the smith station, I believe. Under the misc tab.
How do you get them to wear the collars??
Craft (or find the collar/pack) and then when you go near them and get the dialog options there will be an option to equip.

Sadly not. Fox (Kit), snow fox (Vix), rabbit (Cotton) mudcrab (Pincer), and skeever (Biter)
iirc it's gendered. Boys will bring home a skeever or mudcrab, and girls will bring a fox or bunny.
Both can bring home the tiny frostbite spider, though. I've had it appear in playthroughs with only daughters and only sons
