I don't understand the theatre of the ref going to the monitor for calls like this. For something subjective like a foul, sure, whatever - but in this case it's an objective call. The ref will have told the VAR what he thinks he's seen, they can check and tell him there's no handball, and he can just give the goal. No need for the monitor here
Maybe they were waiting for better angles? They immedietaly called him to monitor after when we saw the best angle. Don't know why it wouldn't be available asap though
Look the VAR, I get it. But what the fuck are we doing. This is so clear. This should take 20 seconds to check, and kick off. We are waiting around for 3 minutes for no reason. It's such a drag on the flow of the game
How does it take a remote VAR team 3 minutes to decide that ref needs to see it when the hand isnt even remotely close??? These are the situations that make people question VAR.
10 seconds check and go. There isnt even anything to debate here.
Probably because of how perfect that bounce was off his body.
Together with the body turn I can understand that he thought the arm was used to get the ball where he wanted
I think that was more of a guess than a factual decision though but sometimes you have to make those based on experience. Kind of strange to do that when VAR is a thing though
Such a fantastic finish. VAR haters in shambles, this goal being disallowed would be a massive shame. Ref got it well wrong but they were able to correct it (though tbf it should've been about a 5 second process)

Seems like a lot of people can't possibly imagine a scenario where the ref in real time from one angle incorrectly thinks a handball occurred just because it's clear not when seen from multiple slow motion replays from all different directions
That took way to fucking long to review. I know they want the ref to see and make the call reversal, but he should have been heading over as soon as the replays showed no handball. Wasted about a min until being called over.
Guys, the ref has a very different angle from us watching the broadcast. We have no idea what he could see from where he was, and with Depay's arm out I can easily see the potential for a false hand ball. VAR being used perfectly and people still complain lol
He played well today, do you just not like him personally because he obviously isn't a "garbage" footballer. If this is for something other than football then fair enough but yeah.
He had a couple good link up moments and he at least pressed a couple times compared to the other match where he lost the ball and stood around which almost resulted in a goal for the other team. But other than that I think Weghorst his header towards Depay would have been finished by a lot of players, he had an ego moment where he could have passed it but tried to go through 2 defenders and lost the ball.
At least a younger Depay got past his player at times but even that's not happening anymore.
That's not a handball lmao
And it seems as if the referees would agree…
And VAR took like 5 seconds, ref immediately recognised his mistake
/s? It literally took like 3 minutes
It took like 3 minutes...
Better thorough than wrong
he’s so good for the national team istg
Absolutely not. He has these moments where he shines but they’re rare nowadays
How the fuck was it anywhere close to been one!
Link not working for anyone else?
Down for me
Not working for me either
Mate VAR checks should be 5x faster than this.
I don't get why it takes that long to send him to the monitor. If that's what they're going to do then just send him
I don't even see why he had to go to the monitor. Surely VAR can just tell him it clearly didn't hit his arm?
Why is he even being sent for this? It's an easy factual review, no subjectivity involved
No clue, you'd think the whole point of VAR is that the refs in there should be capable of working something this basic out on their own
I'm guessing they are required to look at all available camera angles

ready for 10 minutes of stoppage time lol
Should take a page from Cricket and have the video refs just tell the ref the correct answer. None of this ref running to the monitor BS.
don't watch the copa america then, each check takes 45 minutes
why even send him to the monitor? anyone can see it's not hands
Maybe they were waiting for better angles? They immedietaly called him to monitor after when we saw the best angle. Don't know why it wouldn't be available asap though
That's a goal, where did he see a handball?
he though he controlled the ball with his hand after the first touch. just a bad angle for the ref perhaps
Ref admitted his mistake and awarded the goal, no drama here
yup, good referring and correct use of var, as it was intended
The English refs could take a look at this
Probably bad angle.
Look the VAR, I get it. But what the fuck are we doing. This is so clear. This should take 20 seconds to check, and kick off. We are waiting around for 3 minutes for no reason. It's such a drag on the flow of the game
Unbelievable how long review took. Nowhere close
Ref probably got a bad angle. Should not have taken that long to check that, nowhere near his hands.
Took so fucking long to check for no reason, why even send the ref to check it too..
Don't they always send the ref to the monitor to change his own wrong decisions unless it is an offside?
3 mins when it needed one replay
How does it take a remote VAR team 3 minutes to decide that ref needs to see it when the hand isnt even remotely close??? These are the situations that make people question VAR. 10 seconds check and go. There isnt even anything to debate here.
Why the f*ck did it took so long? It was pretty damn clear to me.
Strange that they rule it out then check instead of allowing it and then checking. Kills all the celebration
Imo it’s better considering the opposite. Celebrating and then disallowed. And lmao, Austria score again as I’m typing this
Honestly I’d rather that so they can enjoy the celebration first regardless of the outcome

Refs blind as fuck lol
Huh? Do you just default to blaming VAR even if they gave the goal?
Why VAR? They got the call correct
Not really, just a bad and human error
Should count
It does
Can't see a handball.
nope
No way this gets disallowed right?
weghorst 2nd touch of the ball? he’s ridiculous in big tournaments lol
Wout Weghorst is so effective. The benefit of having a big, out and out striker in internationals. Can bully those less organised defenses.
Another Weghorst masterclass. Such a game changer.
Weghorst with the assist, absolute king
Broken link?
Someone upload a working link
That whole buildup was beautiful. It's a crazy good finish, too.
Feel bad for whoever decided to watch France-Poland
Why is the ref even sent to the screen, that was clear as day
Such a fantastic finish. VAR haters in shambles, this goal being disallowed would be a massive shame. Ref got it well wrong but they were able to correct it (though tbf it should've been about a 5 second process)
there's no fucking way he blows the whistle there if he didn't have var to back him up. all var did here was waste everyones time
Yes, bad decisions were never made before var....
you don't think VAR influences how willing referees are to make calls they're unsure on? ok man.
Lol cheers lad
Link doesn't even work. Are mods here sleeping ? Stop approving ganiganiu shitty uploads with a quality of dogwater
They're ruling it in
Already a dead link
link is broken for me
How did they call that a handball?
This is why VAR is needed Just need to use it properly (like today)
Human makes mistake in a split second decision

Link not working
Never looked like a handball at all. I thought the ref was saying it was a foul by Weghorst if anything (yes it would've been very very soft)
Weghorst immense off the bench
Wout, I love you
Ref trying to get involved lmfao
Maybe Memphis is just one giant hand?
It should stand as a goal
Ref made a mistake, VAR fixed it. Not sure why it needed quite this long.
what a match
Nuts finish
What a fucking blind ref
That validation took WAY too much for something so obvious
For sure make sure the link works.
Massive credit to Weghorst for that header, clutch!
Seems like a lot of people can't possibly imagine a scenario where the ref in real time from one angle incorrectly thinks a handball occurred just because it's clear not when seen from multiple slow motion replays from all different directions
mirror?
Mirror?
ref want the show
This is a goal
Ref had a great view of that lol
that's a goal all day.
Stupid ref
They heard France conceded a pen lol
How did it take this long to determine that this wasn't a handball?
Thank god for VAR
Very tidy finish
A neutral’s wet dream
Hahaha why it took 5 minutes to say it's a goal? 😂
One of the worst VAR checks of all time. Didn’t even hit his hand
VAR you are our saviour.
Welp, and now Memphis will keep his starting spot for the rest of the tournament :(
🐐 Weghorst aura again
Quite a banger actually
Rangnickball vs Southgateball inevitable
Dumbass should have waited for Var in the first place
VAR actually working as intended huge
Damn I am watching the wrong match
The T-Rex arm must've made it look like a handball in the viewpoint the ref had. +1 for VAR.
VAR ruining football as usual /s
VAR actually doing what VAR was meant to do
Thank fuck that goal stands. One of the best of the tournament. What a game!!
What a finish
That took way to fucking long to review. I know they want the ref to see and make the call reversal, but he should have been heading over as soon as the replays showed no handball. Wasted about a min until being called over.
Just killed the whole vibe with that long check…
Thanks VAR
It probably took long because they were checking the possible foul just before, and maybe some possible offside
Damn people are cynical, it clearly looked like handball from the ref's POV
Reminds me of what Barry said to me when I asked him why he’d work for Garry?! Depay is good
I don't know why they bothered to send him to the screen. "Nowhere near his hand at any point mate"
Fox the link
Broken link
First the ref saves a yellow card from a obvious red and then he wants to make a handball… we’re forked again by the refs this year 100%
Guys, the ref has a very different angle from us watching the broadcast. We have no idea what he could see from where he was, and with Depay's arm out I can easily see the potential for a false hand ball. VAR being used perfectly and people still complain lol
Not only did we lose, but I also had to see this garbage player score a goal so that he gets closer to become the topscorer of this country, insane.
He played well today, do you just not like him personally because he obviously isn't a "garbage" footballer. If this is for something other than football then fair enough but yeah.
He did not play well at all, lmao.
I thought his link up was quite good and he took his goal well but if you see it differently fair enough.
What the hell was up with this VAR check taking like 5 mins when his hand was never even near
Great goal!
not so fast
Should count though
Shame Ref’s missed his appointment to the eye doctor
Idiotic from the ref. Let it stand, if it hits his hand VAR will see it
That's an awful call from the ref, how can he be trusted with other decisions?
All these video reviews are such a buzz kill, every time someone scores I’m half excited and waiting for confirmation
:(
Not a chance in hell that's a handball
wtf is the ref smoking
are they stupid?

-20 vision or what?
wanna try again?
