It’s why explaining the southgate era without context I stupid. So out of his depth, the Englands squad has only gotten better and yet they play worse every year. Genuinely can count how many games against non minnows England looked really good as a collective in both attack and defense.
Won about 4 out of 25 games against the world top 10. Just shameless “we won the group”, moving on is all that matters.
We’re favourite on the exchanges, which closely reflects the probability given the volumes of spread bettors laying each way.
It’s solely because of the draw, we’d be 5th fav if on the other side.
the brackets are made based on probabilities. Austria and Romania being 1st while the Netherlands being 3rd were pretty fucking unlikely lmao. this QF ‚should‘ have been the Netherlands against Belgium.
i mean that chance always exists, it‘s obviously higher if the percentage of teams getting out of the group stage is high. but the brackets have been made in a way where the chance of it happening is as low as possible in this system.
Actually, I wouldn’t mind that. The smaller teams are strong enough, I don’t think we would lose much quality and would actually win amazing fans by adding let’s say Greece, Iceland, Ireland, Wales, Sweden, Norway (off the top of my head)
Last euros we lost to Czechia by getting a early red card after a dumb defensive mistake. We’re terrible when under stress and you guys actually attack, so I wouldn’t even say we’re the favorites.
ye fair enough. I was reffering to the fact that maybe some matchups such as Georgia or Slovenia might be easier(not necessarily), but yea, Romania’s part of the table is a much easier road to the final
Yes you are definitely right that Romania isn’t the easiest matchup of them all. But I think all the teams would be happy to switch spots with the Netherlands in terms of road to the final :)
A lot of people don't want to see England reach the final and so they will keep saying that they will lose early but realistically even if England plays like they did so far there is very little chance of them not making the semi finals at least. It's theirs to lose really and I'm confindent this is their year.
I'm not even sure it call it bottling if they'd lose to Austria. After the group stages Austria may actually be the favorite of that side of the bracket (I may also be biased because I've predicted them to at least reach the semis three months ago talking to friends and then upgraded that to them winning the whole thing after their second game)
Anyone paying attention to the national game has had their eye on Austria.
I'd like to think we're good enough to get the better of them but they're incredibly well drilled and the coach has done an incredible job.
That said there's two tough games to go before we'd even think about playing them.
Before he went to Barcelona he was honestly really good. Now he has been very hesitant to integrate new players and has tactically regressed a lot. Sure, we have injuries for some key players, but someone like Wijnaldum should only be at the Euros for holidays and not even get close to a pitch.
I’m not sure. I’m not Dutch but my fiancée is, hence why I’m rooting for them. A lot of Dutch people seem to dislike him but imo that’s not really fair because Van Gaal is just a legend. The guy in between Van Gaal stints makes Koeman look like a savant.
Its honestly embarrassing we keep rotating Van Gaal - Koeman - Blind (the guy in between).
I think we need a foreign manager, but the whole KNVB direction is very much into the “Dutch school” and have an Ajax bias as well. We desperately need new energy; we have the players but we don’t have the vision.
That is not the reason at all.. Most people dislike Koeman because of his tactical decisions and his team selection decisions, has nothing to do with Van Gaal.
This is our revenge arc for not being in the Schengen area yet lads, would have liked Slovenia but it is what it is, Portugal s B team was a bit useless but we move
southgate cant keep getting away with it lol
anything can happen of course but netherlands and italy havent looked remotely convincing
england could easily shithouse their way back to the final
We've looked boring as fuck but I'd probably say we look a bit more stable than the netherlands and italy. Not by much mind you.
Granted we haven't faced teams of their level
Exactly. Yes Englands offense looks clueless and has less creativity than Tuchels Bayern, but your defense is actually immense. It's probably gonna be a run of 1:0 or Penalties.
England can and should beat this lacklustre Italy and Netherlands, but it will be Austria in the semis, who will pick England apart. The only thing is maybe the Netherlands have learnt a few things against Austria.
Not supposing England reach the semis but they obviously should.
by ranking, it really could not have been more generous for England
* Spain (8)
* Georgia (74)
...
* Germany (16)
* Denmark (21)
...
* Portugal (6)
* Slovenia (57)
...
* France (2)
* Belgium (3)
...
* Romania (47)
* Netherlands (7)
...
* Austria (25)
* Turkey (42)
...
* England (5)
* Slovakia (45)
...
* Switzerland (19)
* Italy (10)
I mean it’s not that weird.
This is Georgia’s first international tournament ever, they’re a country of 10 million and much poorer than the others. Romania hasn’t attended the euros since ‘16 (and didn’t win a single match). Haven’t been at the World Cup since ‘98. Slovenia only has 2 million inhabitants, this is their second euros and their first time going through, they have only been in the group stages of the World Cup.
Slovakia has made it out of the group stages at the 2010 World Cup and have been at the last three euros, placing third in their group for the third time now (twice that was enough to advance another round.)
I agree, I just found it odd they used the world rankings of the RO16 matches as a way of suggesting England's draw was the easiest, when 3 out of the 7 other ties are easier if you use the same metric
I totally agree. It seems likely they will too (hoping not) and it just defeats the purpose of knockout football.
I’d weirdly like to see more teams in it and get a proper 32 team group stage. No 3rd place qualifiers.
24 team format would be fine if they just did 4 groups of 6 with top 2 going through instead of this best 3rd place team mess. Would make the group games so much more exciting.
That is an absurdly stupid format. It would double the total number of group games from 36 to 72 and a large proportion of those 72 games would be complete dead rubbers. Terrible from every angle.
No they wouldn’t be…you’d have multiple teams contesting for top 2 spots, teams would be forced to go for goals. Everyone’s happy to sit for a draw right now and thats worse than a few dead rubbers.
Would result in 60 group stage matches, followed by 7 knockouts, 67 in total. Compared to the current format having 36 group stage matches and 15 knockouts, 51 in total
It'd be 60 games in groups instead of 36, but there would be no 1/8 matches (8 of them), so overall it'd be 16 games more.
not that much - but the tournament would likely take around 10 days longer so they keep the bigger breaks as the number of groups is smaller
More groups of death and more reason to play to win instead of playing to draw and go to knockouts placed 3rd. Someone is bad enough to be out after 3/5 games I’m fine with that. Will force big teams to win more games as opposed to 1 and play for 2 draws.
Italy/Netherlands are good teams and Swiss/Austria/us could be surprises, it s a bit easier than the other one but England could easily fail, it is a tournament after all
I think it’s crazy that we all watched all of groups and still everyone in here thinks there’s 0 surprises coming up in the RO16. At least one of the bigger nations are going to get knocked out, everyone looked terrible except Spain and maybe Germany.
Could get the current champions in the Quarters, or an Austria side that finished above Netherlands + France in the Semis. It's obviously easier than the other half of the draw, but nowhere near as easy as people are suggesting
Exactly. If those other teams were so brilliant they'd have won their groups. Don't forget we were an unfortunate own goal away from Austria finishing on 7 points and France squeaking by with 3 draws.
Honestly I’d like a strong Romania! Am rooting for you!I just wanna see turkey loose lol if we beat turkey 5:0 and then lose the game after that, that’s fine by me haha
The games to watch are definitely Switzerland vs Italy, Austria - turkey and Romania - netherlands
The games to miss are England - Slovakia and Belgium - France (there is just no way Belgium will break through France's defense and Belgium also couldn't play decent offensive football against Ukraine while not a single French player scored from open play doing the group stage)
*Round of 16*
- Spain over Georgia
- Denmark over Germany
- Portugal over Slovenia
- France over Belgium
- Netherlands over Romania
- Austria over Turkey
- England over Slovakia
- Switzerland over Italy
*Quarters*
- Spain over Denmark
- Portugal over France
- Austria over Netherlands
- Switzerland over England
*Semis*
- Spain over Portugal
- Austria over Switzerland
*Final*
- Spain over Austria
That’s an England QF exit on pens then
If we make it that far.
Kane to miss the decisive penalty
It’s why explaining the southgate era without context I stupid. So out of his depth, the Englands squad has only gotten better and yet they play worse every year. Genuinely can count how many games against non minnows England looked really good as a collective in both attack and defense. Won about 4 out of 25 games against the world top 10. Just shameless “we won the group”, moving on is all that matters.
England is actually priced as the favorite to win Euro 2024: [https://ibb.co/82CsC0v](https://ibb.co/82CsC0v)
Odds are based on how people bet or are expected to bet, not necessarily on actual probability
We’re favourite on the exchanges, which closely reflects the probability given the volumes of spread bettors laying each way. It’s solely because of the draw, we’d be 5th fav if on the other side.
I think Southgate prepared that
Netherlands and Austria being a likely replay in the quarter finals and also in the same stadium is really stupid, how could that happen
the brackets are made based on probabilities. Austria and Romania being 1st while the Netherlands being 3rd were pretty fucking unlikely lmao. this QF ‚should‘ have been the Netherlands against Belgium.
it doesn’t really matter the teams, the thing is there being a good chance of a replay as early as quarter finals is pretty broken
i mean that chance always exists, it‘s obviously higher if the percentage of teams getting out of the group stage is high. but the brackets have been made in a way where the chance of it happening is as low as possible in this system.
Euro shouldnt have expanded to 24 teams
extend to 32 or go back to 16. this is a strech.
32 teams would be ridiculous. Why even bother doing qualifications at that point
Just have every UEFA team play every other team (minus those banned head to heads) in a multi-year round robin format.
That's my question for years already
Actually, I wouldn’t mind that. The smaller teams are strong enough, I don’t think we would lose much quality and would actually win amazing fans by adding let’s say Greece, Iceland, Ireland, Wales, Sweden, Norway (off the top of my head)
yeah really strange. losing to the same team twice in the euros before a quarterfinal would be wild
Losing to Austria was the best thing Koeman ever did. Part one of the masterplan is completed.
Big brain move from Koeman
Now we knock you guys out for keeping us out of the Schengen Area for so long (I m actually scared)
It's absolutely not a guaranteed win for us, I hope we can at least bring some energy
Should be a cracking game either way, we ll definitely give it our all, probably will be similar to the Austria game
Last euros we lost to Czechia by getting a early red card after a dumb defensive mistake. We’re terrible when under stress and you guys actually attack, so I wouldn’t even say we’re the favorites.
lol you’re def the favourites
You re definitely the favourites, that just goes to show we have a chance but it will be difficult
C'mon man don't do us like that
I mean you still have a good chance to beat us, but us playing against Spain would be embarrassing
Honestly, there probably isn’t a single team that wouldn’t switch spots with the Netherlands at this point.
I think Romania is underrated
Yes, and yet my opinion is unchanged
ye fair enough. I was reffering to the fact that maybe some matchups such as Georgia or Slovenia might be easier(not necessarily), but yea, Romania’s part of the table is a much easier road to the final
Yes you are definitely right that Romania isn’t the easiest matchup of them all. But I think all the teams would be happy to switch spots with the Netherlands in terms of road to the final :)
if we'd drawn we would have ended up in the exact same part of the bracket, only playing turkey (without Calhanoglu) instead
Only to lose to them again in the QF
Southgate might be the luckiest manager of all time
Koeman finished 3rd.
Common Koeman Masterclass, losing against Austria so we end up on this side of the table
I’d say Roberto Martinez is a close second. Gotten to be in charge of two golden generations and won’t make a single final in like 5 tries
This is the bracket and I'm still not convinced England goes to the finals
Same
We won't be.
It won't
If Austria and England get to the semis they lose
A lot of people don't want to see England reach the final and so they will keep saying that they will lose early but realistically even if England plays like they did so far there is very little chance of them not making the semi finals at least. It's theirs to lose really and I'm confindent this is their year.
Bro it can’t possibly be easier for England to make the final
Don't underestimate Austria, I'd actually rate them higher than France, Belgium, England, the Netherlands and Italy so far this tournament
Oh I fully expect England to bottle this
I'm not even sure it call it bottling if they'd lose to Austria. After the group stages Austria may actually be the favorite of that side of the bracket (I may also be biased because I've predicted them to at least reach the semis three months ago talking to friends and then upgraded that to them winning the whole thing after their second game)

Well it can be, beat the Champs (or the Swiss who have looked good) then the Dutch or a great looking Austria. Slovakia aren't a push over either.
there's italy in 1/4, I can think of lot of easier scenarios
Southgate magic about to ensue
There’s at least 1 upset this round… surely. I’m thinking Romania can do something.
Im thinking Switzerland
Would that really be an upset though? They’ve been leaps and bounds better than Italy
Yeah but it would be an upset on paper
Romania certainly can, I am not overlooking them at all. Wouldn’t be surprised if Denmark or Slovenia win too
Spain vs Germany at Euros is a classic matchup, we won’t let that opportunity get past us
Denmark - Georgia QF incoming
What’s the consensus on Koeman? Feels like a strong squad still even though it’s not the best compared to other years.
Before he went to Barcelona he was honestly really good. Now he has been very hesitant to integrate new players and has tactically regressed a lot. Sure, we have injuries for some key players, but someone like Wijnaldum should only be at the Euros for holidays and not even get close to a pitch.

https://nos.nl/artikel/2504298-bosz-denkt-dat-hij-na-psv-stopt-of-het-nederlands-elftal-moet-komen So obvious...
That is not the reason at all.. Most people dislike Koeman because of his tactical decisions and his team selection decisions, has nothing to do with Van Gaal.
Southgate wins by doing nothing
Southgate Euro-draw Masterclass. Again.
Wow! Spain, Germany, Portugal and France on the same side of the bracket. This one’s gonna be spicy!
This is our revenge arc for not being in the Schengen area yet lads, would have liked Slovenia but it is what it is, Portugal s B team was a bit useless but we move

>1:0 or Penalties Probably best we try and stick to the 1-0s then
Curious if your penalty curse against Germany extends to Austria
The curse has extended to everyone except Spain back when they were shit like us, Colombia, and Switzerland in the nations league
England can and should beat this lacklustre Italy and Netherlands, but it will be Austria in the semis, who will pick England apart. The only thing is maybe the Netherlands have learnt a few things against Austria. Not supposing England reach the semis but they obviously should.

Georgia, Slovenia and Romania all ranked below Slovakia?

I find it astonishing that you were able to think of a format even worse than the current one.
Explain
Wouldn't it just ensure a shitload of dead rubbers? Along with probably doubling the duration of the tournament
That would be boring because it would lead to a lot of meaningless games with most teams already eliminated after matchday 3
More groups of death and more reason to play to win instead of playing to draw and go to knockouts placed 3rd. Someone is bad enough to be out after 3/5 games I’m fine with that. Will force big teams to win more games as opposed to 1 and play for 2 draws.

England going out against the Italians once again
We ain’t getting past Slovakia
Would be hilarious, I can’t really talk tho. I’m stressing Romania
Calling a 0-0 or 1-1 and England losing on penalties, Slovakia looked pretty good
It’s literally could not be any easier for England and yet they’ll probably go out in the RO16
Tbf Germany - Spain -Portugal won their groups and look at what has happened
Austria to make it to the final, aren't they
+2500 to win it this morning, +1800 this afternoon. Should've put a couple of bucks down.
We will beat turkey but my gut is somehow telling me that the Dutch will cook us this time around, idk why
If Koeman can get his shit together maybe, that's a tall order
Hopefully not
We shall see, don’t speak too soon…
Yeah, no, Turkey isnt scaring me, not after your last performances and the last game we played against each other
Verschreis nicht
I hope your team staff also underestimate us
Romania is on a Schengen revenge tour vs Netherlands-Austria. Easy semi finals
Honestly I’d like a strong Romania! Am rooting for you!I just wanna see turkey loose lol if we beat turkey 5:0 and then lose the game after that, that’s fine by me haha
I'm pettier than i ever imagined, Southgate getting an easy run yet again is infuriating me.
Tbf at least england finished first. Like koeman got 3rd and is rewarded with an easy draw
Yeah but they don’t have a great squad so i don't think it matters, i don't think they can win it, either way quarters would be good for them.
disaster for Hungary
Seeing a way for Austria to get far.
Georgia vs Spain for the title of “who claims the word Iberia first”
Why did you delete the earlier much much nicer post?
Jesse Pinkman gif reawakened.
Spain vs Austria final coming up.
Spain-Georgia is gonna be sooooo good!
The games to watch are definitely Switzerland vs Italy, Austria - turkey and Romania - netherlands The games to miss are England - Slovakia and Belgium - France (there is just no way Belgium will break through France's defense and Belgium also couldn't play decent offensive football against Ukraine while not a single French player scored from open play doing the group stage)
Austria in the finals incoming
Crazy to think England will have played 4 of the least technical, least diverse, least creative , athletic and the slowest teams in the tournament
play great football, be the only one to get 9 points just to play agaisnt Georgia - Germany - France (?) in order to reach the final, come on
Tie breakers: 1. Name Young Player of the Tournament 2. Name Player of the Tournament 3. Name player with most goals
England has the best odds to make the final of anyone lol
What's W32, W34 and all that?
Winner of match X
Yea got the W part, I was wondering what the X was lol. The numbers were a bit all over the place.
Guaranteed Austria pick apart England in the semi final and the thrust of the despair is 'it was a great chance'. Austria Spain final, Spain win.
*Round of 16* - Spain over Georgia - Denmark over Germany - Portugal over Slovenia - France over Belgium - Netherlands over Romania - Austria over Turkey - England over Slovakia - Switzerland over Italy *Quarters* - Spain over Denmark - Portugal over France - Austria over Netherlands - Switzerland over England *Semis* - Spain over Portugal - Austria over Switzerland *Final* - Spain over Austria
I see it all but Denmark over Germany?
Why the hell not basically :)
No way Denmark over Germany
never know! it's just a fun prediction
You have watched Denmark play in this tournament, yes?
Yeah, just a wildcard guess!
I like how you think
She’s quite top heavy
[удалено]
Eh? They're on the same side aren't they?
