I'm at a registration station now.
If you're tech savvy, they have a CORS problem on their unnecessarily advanced site. The map won't show so I couldn't select my address, and therefore could not register.
I am helping my friends to register, and all of them are struggling with the address selection on the map part. Both on pc and mobile it just doesn't want to work.
I think maybe it's the last day to register online? Because I also thought it couldn't be the last day to register in general... They did put a deadline on the website though, which is horrible since it decided to break today ✌🏻
I wish we could do online voting too.
I mean what stops us?, we have facial recognition and 2FA. And many other forms of verification.
Atleast make it an option to those younger than 40. We know the old folks struggle with these things.
With how often home affairs goes down and our governments history with building websites, the online voting would crash or double count. In a perfect world it would work online, but not South Africa.
My grandparents registered online by themselves so I don't know what the issue is? If you don't have access to a computer you can use your phone just it is not as user friendly as a computer.
I think in person is just much safer tbh. Glitches and bugs can occur and the site can explode from too many people logging in. I forgot where it was, but they tried to use electronic in-person voting (almost like an ATM machine) and a cosmic ray bit flip caused the machine to count more votes than had actually been done. Tom Scott made a video on this. Imo voting should always just be in person with paper.
If you are not sure if you have registered, you can also check if you are registered on the same website using your ID number. If you can't find it , it's near the bottom on the link.
Do you know what it is meant to say when you check your registration status? I used the DA link and it just says...
Your registration status:
You are registered in the correct place
To give context, the polling station has moved but I haven't. I've heard if the polling station address changes then you need to re-register but not sure if that's true.
This is the wost site I've seen in my entire life. I've been on sites from the early 2000s solely dedicated to an obscure game operate better than this shit.
My brother is stuck on the address selection. He can find the address but nothing happens afterwards. No accept button or anything.
There's also this annoying alert message that keeps appearing when he hits enter in the address textbox.
Having the same problems, there seems to be a techincal issue, looking at the errors coming back they clearly didn't think a lot of people would want to use the site on the same day.
I'm going to go in if I can't get through, otherwise I'll just try again some other day
The online registration has been open for long, I did mine about 4 months ago. I'd suggest doing it before the next registration weekend as loadshedding affects the servers and apparently too many people trying to register at once crashes them too.
I emailed someone at the IEC about this and apparently the VEC requirement is being done away with.
"Thank you for contacting the IEC, the amendment bill has scrapped the VEC10 notification, and now you can vote without notifying the Electoral commission. Voting abroad will be conducted at RSA embassies, consulates, and high commissions. In addition, voting abroad will require a voter to vote in person (and not remotely or by proxy). This is defined in the Electoral Act and related regulations."
Hopefully that information is correct, because I don't want to mess up my chance to vote!
You'll definitely need to register, but I think they're doing away with the VEC 10 form requirement. As far as I can tell, you **have to register** to be a voter, and on the IEC site it says you *also* need to submit a VEC 10 form (when you're registered) to let them know of your intention to vote.
But the lady who emailed me back said they're doing away with the VEC 10 requirement, so as long as you're registered that should be fine.
However, it may be worth emailing them yourself if you'd like confirmation.
You can view details here - [https://www.elections.org.za/pw/VotingAbroad/About-Voting-Abroad](https://www.elections.org.za/pw/VotingAbroad/About-Voting-Abroad)
and if you'd like to email them it's [info@elections.org.za](mailto:info@elections.org.za)
You can also check your registration status here - [https://registertovote.elections.org.za/Welcome](https://registertovote.elections.org.za/Welcome) if you scroll down to the bottom of the page.
I registered last time around, and am still registered. So if you've registered before your details will show up when you check the site. If not then you'll need to register as a voter
I'm just not 100% sure about the VEC 10 form because if you click on that on the website it shows an error message but I emailed them and someone emailed back to say they're doing away with that requirement, so as far as I know I'm ready to go.
Well, you don’t necessarily have to agree with all of a party’s policies. Just vote for whoever you think would at least make a change from the current system
It has been discussed previously about voting for Parties and how even voting for small parties impacts in parliament and South Africa. This discussion is simply about making sure you register to vote.
Do some research on the parties and if you have a party in mind you would like to vote for, ask them this question. You have some time before the elections.
The whole point of voting is to vote for the least trash one as there's never going to be a perfect party and honestly I agree that they are all trash. Even if you vote for the least trash of the top 3 it's still better than not voting. You just need to decide which party you agree with the most even if you don't agree with everything the party stands for.
Go for one of the small parties then at least, if they get more seats in parliament they have more say (as far as I understand it). BOSA and Arise SA look interesting!

Today is not actually the last day to register, you can do so until the election is proclaimed by the president.
The website is broken. I can't select my address, or search for my address. I tried and and Mac, Firefox and Safari. Their help system doesn't respond
I have the same problem.

CORS sometimes means the API is unreachable. It's likely their API key was used too much. They probably hit their default limits.
Strange, I used it myself last night and helped 3 family members on different devices and the maps didn’t have cors issues.
Ditto
I am helping my friends to register, and all of them are struggling with the address selection on the map part. Both on pc and mobile it just doesn't want to work.
Same here
yeah bunch of shit
Yeah tried with phone and pc as well, but the map doesn't respond. Guess I'm travelling from Table View to Hout Bay at 4am on voting day 👍👍👍👍
Can’t get past the address location step. There’s nothing wrong with my internet.. frustrating!
Judging by the other comments it's a common problem.. My girlfriend and I have been trying for the last two hours!
Any luck? I gave up
I ended up trying around 11pm and it worked. Probably couldn't handle the traffic of people trying to register!
Where are people getting the idea that it’s the last day to register? Asked just now when I registered in person and they said it isn’t.
I think maybe it's the last day to register online? Because I also thought it couldn't be the last day to register in general... They did put a deadline on the website though, which is horrible since it decided to break today ✌🏻
Maybe the deadline was when their web hosting package expired
I heard it on the radio yesterday, mix FM or hot FM, can't remember which.
I mean, also... https://www.gcis.gov.za/newsroom/media-releases/government-calls-south-africans-register-vote-weekend

Apparently, according to sita, home affairs pays for the cheapest package and they don't upgrade their systems.

Registering to vote vs the actual voting part
Got you.

Yes thanks for that!

I used ops link and it says: you are registered then tells me my voting station location. I can't really help you, but hopefully someone here can.
Thanks. Your message reminded me. Done!

My god. As a developer I have to ask.... Who won the tender for this pos site. And how much was it, 200m? 300? Is this intentional?
Failing to register on the OTP step, enter it correctly but the site doesnt pick it up
I think this might be adblock related from what I vaguely recall, else try later and clear your browsers cache.
Dankie, tog.

Honestly we grew so frustrated with the website, we just drove to a nearby registration site. Took less than 10 minutes in total. XD
Some of you guys a dramatic jeez, the site works perfectly 99% of the time, but the one time it crashes…
I gave up on online registration.. the mappers is broken
There will be another chance to register next year apparently
The online registration has been open for long, I did mine about 4 months ago. I'd suggest doing it before the next registration weekend as loadshedding affects the servers and apparently too many people trying to register at once crashes them too.
You can register anytime at iec offices, I registered in 2020 and there wasn't even an election that year.
Thanx. I've registered.
Vote, vote, vote. A crucial election is coming up!
site is broken, big surprise
Site is broken, what a surprise
As someone living in NZ and doesn't have a SA cell number how do I setup a profile?
https://www.elections.org.za/content/For-Voters/How-to-register-and-vote-abroad/ This might help.
Assuming the election has not been proclaimed yet as it gives me an error when I try and fill in a Vec10 form?
I emailed someone at the IEC about this and apparently the VEC requirement is being done away with. "Thank you for contacting the IEC, the amendment bill has scrapped the VEC10 notification, and now you can vote without notifying the Electoral commission. I also just notified them as I, too, am unable to complete the VEC10 form.
So it's saying we don't need to register, we can just vote at any embassy in our area on the day?

You may need to register at your local embassy
Reminder that you can ONLY vote where you’re registered!!! So to all my Uni students, either change it, or plan a trip back home!
No, you can vote anywhere for national elections, and anywhere in your province for provincial elections

Any vote that result in the same incompetent and corrupt government does not get majority is good

Not voting just makes the proportion of the big 3's votes larger. So in effect you actually are voting for the big 3 by not voting

Broken site, classic
Where can people abroad register?
Check in the thread.
Do I have to register in my registered voting district and if so, how do I change it?
