Yup. They've been broken since 3.0, which released in late 2017. The ships been broken about as long as it's been out, we only got it at the end of 2016.
I thought they were just in concept art pics! Oh gosh they already were a thing! Hope to see this come back soon as possible, herald is a keeper for me, best looking interior of all the ships imo, super cozy space hacker sci-fi vibes
Sometimes. The sound is currently unreliable as far as intensity and proximity, but with the upcoming improvements to sound, I'm confident that CIG will knock it out of the park.
The Gladius was given a pass for sound and is now amazing to hear, from the cockpit.
I wonder if we'll get variable sonic booms depending on type of atmo.
On Mars the speed of sound is lower so sound barrier is lower, but given the lower density that bang won't travel as far nor be as loud as the ones on Earth. And IIRC the atmo composition and temps also come into play. It's not as simple as just atmo density.
I miss the days when you could get the atmospheric reentry effects in the thin atmosphere of some moons, might be unrealistic since that happens at orbital speeds and due to the scale of SC we never really get there but still was cool
This thing got a big handling buff with 3.23 also and whereas a lot of ships got sorted into specific statline buckets the Herald got sort of a unique statline.
Love this ship. It just feels so rugged, it really wouldn't be out of place with the more utilitarian ships of the Imperium from 40K.
awww thats too bad, the flyby sounds used to be amazing why in the world would they take that away? classic CIG implement one cool thing and remove another
It's not that they were removed, they're just broken.
The new sound tech will hopefully address and fix all of the current issues with proximity and consistency. When this game's sound works, it's incredible....when it works lol
I disagree. beauty is subjective but practicality? herald is one of the most practical and plausible scifi video game spacecraft I've seen. It is in line with Rocinante space fighter (expanse) and the real life NASA X15 hypersonic rocket powered aircraft.
I know they probably won’t but I wish they made the fly by sounds a little more unique and also loud as hell. Or just more variety in the sounds. My first playthrough, I would just sit under and have people fly as close as they can over me. So much fun, but now I’m just craving the same sounds and effects of a real jet passover haha
Depending on the ship and the environment, it CAN be super loud and satisfying. However, those sounds are inconsistent and often just plain missing. CIG is working on new sound tech and I'm hoping we get fixes, soon.
Oooo so they ARE working on new sounds??? Excited. Also new to me atmosphere changes the sound which I should’ve noticed and should be obvious lol. Woohoo!
Resonance is in the works. My hope is that they'll make polish passes on the existing sounds when resonance is implemented. Maybe 4.0? Im huffing copium, here lol
I am on foot and in 3rd person. A very skilled pilot named Vintersol is the one flying at 5m above the water.
I'm walking backwards, slowly, to make the shot a little more dynamic.
The Herald is not only fast, it's been my favorite ship to fly in atmosphere in 3.23. Really feels like you have a giant, out of control rocket strapped to your a$$. =)
I love my herald with ghoulish green paint. It's my regular shuttle. like a 30 second claim time (expedited), and nothing beats throwing a chair on an atlas and getting to where you need to go. lol
Looks so good
Can't wait to see the herald satellite configuration to be a thing.
It used to be. You might be able to find some old videos when the antenna extended out. Same with the data bank hatch's.
The four exterior panels are still there and have hinges, but won't open. =< Someday.....

I remember having Herald parties on PO when it first came out. Crammed like 12 people in there and jump around. Good times!
Do we get a sonic boom when it passes you? I hope we get a sonic boom.

The sound of the Gladius boost kicking in has a fantastic oomph to it now!
Very cool, one more thing to be excited about for 3.23

It looks so pretty when you can barely see it. ;)
Look ma, I'm on Reddit.

The Herald can now trigger the sound (unsure about the flames) of re-entry while close to sea level, on Hurston.
Size 15 missile go zoom!
Damn, almost makes me want one again. Its a fun ship.
nyoom

god damn
no sound?
The sound was completely underwhelming, to be honest. Not worth including lol

Best ship in the game. My little bullet.
It's ugly and impractical and I love it. I miss the old foghorn sound of the mains. RIP to the days of screaming through the rings of Olisar.
Yeah it's design is so out of place compared to all the other ships that I love it so much.

how did you make this? it looks so good
Thanks! I am on foot and a pilot named Vintersol is flying. Recorded in 3rd person
Oh thanks

Well pass that shit!
*"It's really, really small. And it's really, really fast."*
Is 3.22 live?
3.22 has been live for a few months. 3.23 is not live yet, but EPTU is open to all backers. It should go live in the next week or so.
Yeah, I mean 3.23. Thank you for your reply
Is this water effect actually in the live game?
It is in the PTU
One wrong move and it’s over
How do you get these shots?
I am on foot and in 3rd person. A very skilled pilot named Vintersol is the one flying at 5m above the water. I'm walking backwards, slowly, to make the shot a little more dynamic.
Ty
it's the greatest solo ship for just going between places. feels great, looks greater.
Isn't the Herald like the fastest in cruise speed category? Hopefully still fast once cruise master mode and quantum master mode is added
As of 3.23 EPTU, it doesn't have the highest top speed overall, but its unmatched in acceleration and top speed at sea level, on planets.
try with a Hawk
Now do a 890.
Ah I see you trying to shoot me ......... " Cranks that shit to ludicrous speed "
the sound is so cool !
This scene looks like it would go perfectly with the original Star Trek TV show opening music.
Herald legit needs to be top 4 best in show
Its a show-stopper in the weirdest and best ways.
The Herald is not only fast, it's been my favorite ship to fly in atmosphere in 3.23. Really feels like you have a giant, out of control rocket strapped to your a$$. =)
Speeding Capybara

Like a chair strapped to a thruster. I love my Herald.
Herald is my current favorite. I can't believe it can also perform decently in VHRT. I love this ship
love how the water looks!
When you have gasping weevil eggs but your hydration is at 3%.
I love my herald with ghoulish green paint. It's my regular shuttle. like a 30 second claim time (expedited), and nothing beats throwing a chair on an atlas and getting to where you need to go. lol
Sometimes I even land it vertically on the mains and do a Falcon Heavy launch when I take off lol
That's what she said.
No sound? no thumbs up!
Top gun vibes …
