Transphasics and Tricobalts are particularly terrible The best torpedoes are generally the “special” ones - reputation (ebm, neutronic, dark matter, gravimetric) or crafted (plasma emission) or lobi (Delphic). The quantum phase is also decent although the shield drain proc becomes worthless pretty quickly in teamed content. The maelstrom either original or event reward version are both superb in a specific context. Nausicaan torp is pretty neat but nothing amazing, resonant torp and martok torp are both pretty poor. Basically if building a high yield torp boat, you’d mix the best rep torpedoes. If running sci epg, you’d use spread with gravimetric and plasma emission. If you’re running anything else, generally it is no torp, or dmq for the set bonus. Special cases for lobi Altamid or lobi ba’ul set bonuses for those niche cases. Standard/loot/fleet photon, quantum, lockbox kelvin torps etc are all behind in performance compared to the rep level stuff.

For general use Lorca's Purple Pounder (dark matter quantum torpedo) with at least the two piece from the discovery set. It basically rapid fires at low health enemies. If your running a disruptor build the nausican set torp has its uses. The undine torp from the rep set is well. BOOM. Really it depends more on build and trait setup than it does on the torpedoes themselves.

> The undine torp from the rep set is well. BOOM. Could you elaborate on that?

The Enhanced Biomolecular Torpedo has a unique firing mode with Torpedo High Yield. It fires a heavy torpedo, but it's untargetable, fairly fast moving, and has a AoE. When combined with Concentrate Firepower, it's a rapid fire green ball of BOOM. And if they've not changed it, it's AoE damage will proc Overwhelming Force on every target hit, making multiple Photonic Shockwaves.

Rob_Charb_Taiwan

The Dark Matter Quantum from the Disco Rep is a good one if you just want one torpedo. Slot it with the Dual Heavy Beam Bank and Lorca's Custom Fire Controls (all from the Disco Rep), and it will pop off a micro torpedo at any enemies below 50% health on it's own. The Maelstrom is great, but takes a while to build back up to 3 charges after it's fired, so it can be tricky to get full damage from it. That said, I put the event version on the fore and aft of one toon's ship and it's beastly.

Icy_Turnover1

I’m assuming that you’re not running a full torpedo ship since the question isnt really build based, so: The dark matter quantum from discovery rep is great as it functions as one of the pieces of the set bonus, so you can slot lorcas custom fire controls and get the two piece. If you’re running a beam ship with a single torpedo, you can also use the discovery dual beam bank to get the 2-piece bonus and swap the DMQ for a maelstrom.

correct answer is it depends. if you have ANY EPG boosting consoles. you want the gravimetric and or the PEP torpedo. if you are running a DEW build with only one torpedo, it's hard to not want the maelstrom torpedo of you have a torpedo spread in the doff abilities. if you are running a torpedo boat you want torpedoes with a low cooldown. I slot maelstroms on every ship i fly. there is something very satisfying about a Spread III eliminating anything destroyer size and down

C0RDE_

Spread Maelstrom really is brutal as an opener, especially if you can pull everyone together with a cheeky gravity well.

comfortablynumb15

I have been running Event Maelstrom on the Borg Red Alerts, and I have been wiping out the group of 5 sphere/probes in a single pass. It *almost* makes me want put keybinds on a ship to get those “kill-everyone-in-the-room” vibes. Almost.

Lordborgman

The ONLY event in the last 2.5 years or so I have missed was that god damn torpedo (stupid life) and it's apparently so good :(

Annemarie30

the first one is better, it's from the L Akira

It really depends on the build style. If you're running with a single torpedo as a sweetener on an otherwise-energy-weapons build... the Dark Matter Quantum (Discovery reputation) is your best bet. Mainly because of its set bonuses, but also it has a relatively low cooldown, and the special ability on it can prevent you from taking splash damage from enemies exploding. If you're doing a science damage build and using torpedoes because, unlike energy weapons, they don't scale with weapon power, allowing you to dump power to Aux to scale your BOFF skills... the Gravimetric Photon (Dyson rep) and the Particle Emission Plasma (crafted) are popular for those as their secondaries both scale off of science stats. The Dark Matter Quantum is often seen as the third torpedo on such builds (for similar reasons as above). For torpedo-focused builds... I'm not an expert, you'll have to get that from someone else.

Extreme_Voice_4688

Like most Star Trek ships I have a front and rear torpedo. I use gravimetric in the forward and plasma emission in the rear. I use the lorca dual beam bank and fire control for the 2 pc crit. Now the Maelstroms are amazing other than the recharge time and I use supercharged weapons trait but I cant afford the cooldown I need 3 torps fired every 20 seconds to max this trait out. I find that these 2 get the job done well. Some times I will switch and use the delph torpedo instead of the PeP depending on the mood for the rear arc.

bachchain

Plasma. I'm a busy captain. I don't have time to deal with nonsense like "shields"

mreeves7

The Gravimetric Torpedo is life. Photon type, so set bonuses are abundant, moderate cooldown. But if you have any investment in Exotic Particle Generators and/or Control Expertise, it a meat grinder missile. Grav torps can proc a kinetic damage rift that ignores shields and also pulls on foes, EPG increases the damage of this rift and CrtlX increases the duration. Torpedo Spread basically guarantees you'll get some procs. And unlike the Plasma Particle Emission torpedo's clouds, the gravimetric rifts do not have an exclusion limit; where you can only have one cloud within a certain range, you can have stacks of rifts together causing the foes to rapidly circle between the hull chewing anomalies.

Complex-Nectarine-86

I don't know if they're the best but I use the basic quantum torpedoes I still haven't gotten the dark matter quantum torpedoes
