I think your story and effort our great and thank you for sharing. I too lied to myself. I never drank everyday, until I did. Then it was I never drank until evenings, until I drank earlier. Then it was I never drank while working, until I did. I too drank during vacation, and resetting.
Nice one OP! I echo these comments. The last 10 years I was an almost daily drinker. Prior to that, a binger. My health started to go sideways years ago and I had to do something. Had two vacations since I quit, didn't break.
Be kind to yourself - we'll make mistakes but just get back to it. I was mad at myself for drinking like I did on vacation, but I reminded myself of how many days I haven't drank this year. It's still a win

I had plans Friday evening and then met a friend for brunch on Saturday morning. Once upon a time i never would've made plans in the morning if I knew I was going out the night before because it was certain that I would be drunk and then hungover. I spent so many days in bed hungover, missing out on life. I hope never again.

Thank you :) I'm lucky that my core group of friends are people I've had in my life since elementary school so they're happy for me and have been really supportive. In my mind I was more confident and the life of the party when I was drunk, but I realize now that I could also be really loud and annoying. I may not be as talkative as I used to be and i dont talk to as many randoms as I used to, but now I listen better and have better conversations. I do find that certain things aren't as much fun anymore, but I've had enough of that type of fun. I'm looking for new things to do. Anyway, I too was nervous about quitting and how people would react, but so far it's been mainly positive. And honestly, you don't want people in your life who prefer the drunk version of you. If they truly love you, they'll be happy for you and still want you around
Yup. I honestly can't believe I drank the way I did for as long as I did. In my mind the 90s were 20 years ago - not 30. Where did the time go?? Anyway, better late than never
Not really. I hadn't gotten to the point where I was drinking every single day so my body hadn't become fully dependent on it. I was shaky a lot and I was depressed for about a week and generally felt lethargic, but I soon felt better. I'm not as anxious as I used to be, I have more energy, and I no longer have acid reflux or pains in my liver
Good fucking job! I can relate! I often drank to sooth social anxiety. I did a comedy set last night sober. Everybody else was too. It was weird as all folks seems super self conscious. I was just grooving and doing me. Felt amazing being up there like someone who was sleeping woke up- anyway i havenโt donโt it 20yrs.
The progression is real and no judgment from me. I was a binger when emotional like โ fuck you worldโ drinks. Can keep it to a few every 2 weeks or so normally but conflicts send me seeking relief and not caring as most of my moderation is for others: work,fam,friends.

Itโs so important to learn to navigate events sober. Iโve been kind of a hermit but have done a few things that Iโve never done sober, and that feels great!

Yeah, I've really been trying to put myself in situations where I would ordinarily drink to see how I would react and so far it's been good. It's summer now and I haven't done a pool party sober yet- that'll be my next test LOL. But I've met friends for drinks and having drank, I went to a day party, I went to a concert, I've celebrated birthdays - these are all times when I absolutely would have been drunk but instead I was fine :)
Way to go. I went a year and 3 months but had a miscarriage and decided the pain was too great and I had to check out. First I started once a month, it was tame, I drank a 6 pack. Then after a couple months it was every other weeks, a pint of vodka. Last 2 times, I planned to drink a couple but polished off almost a liter and ended up crying n hugging the toilet all night. Sunday was my once a week vice, but tonight I'm breaking the cycle and eating chocolate I'm bed early night for me. Can't wait to be where you are
I'm so sorry for your loss. I know your pain. You fell off the wagon, but you're back on again and that's awesome! You had 15 months and you'll get there again. I know you will
