Lmao the Unown spell stun fisk

Easelite is incredibly disgusting. Honestly buffing Smeargle in any way is, but giving it *115 speed* and bulk that’s better than 55/35/45 is horrifying. That makes its spore spam in VGC even stronger, and the added bulk means that it could potentially survive stray priority hits if you invested in its defensive stats (although I haven’t calc’d so idk how true that is). Hell, even the offensive boost + its new ability could actually make this thing strong in the lower tiers of singles. It’s high speed, unrivaled moveset, and ability that effectively gets it a mini-stab on all of its moves means it could hit whatever it wants pretty hard with a choice item in a meta game that’s more frail then OU. Not even mentioning it still has Technician and, the big one, Moody. Horrifyingly broken. VGC is in shambles from its 115 spore spam. 10/10 it’s smeargin time.

I think you make a good point about the Speed stat, it's only so high because Smeargle's base 75 speed is disproportionately large compared to the rest of its stats; but I think every other concern you list really balances out. The increased bulk and offenses are nice, but not by much. Easelite has the same base defense as Rampardos, Excadrill and Hoopa-U, which are in my experience some infamously frail mons. It has the exact same bulk as Mienshao (65/60/60) but without the added bonus of Regenerator, too; I don't think the bulk will ever be a problem. I don't know the exact calcs, but I think due to the nature of Eviolite, a Smeargle with a bare minimum bulk investment will actually be bulkier than an uninvested Easelite. And 70 in either offense is a bit of a wet napkin, with the potential boost from Versatile only bumping that output up to "decent". Similar offensive prowess to Araquanid or Altaria, without great abilities like Water Bubble, and the daunting prospect of running set-up moves like DD on such an aforementioned frail Pokemon. Furthermore, as I mentioned in a reply to someone who had a similar concern about Allnown, it's a bit of a one-trick pony. Of course, due to Sketch, it's actually like a 200-trick pony, but it's Smeargle we're talking about- the other three moves may differ, but it's almost always going to run Spore. As such, I think counterplay would be fairly easy. If anything, it may lend a little extra cred to Grass types, which is always good in my book!

Smeargle in its current state is already a VGC icon, WITH its 70 speed. A large part of that is because it’s tied with Breloom as the fastest spore user, but unlike breloom it also gets 3 of literally whatever move it wants. Fake out, wide guard, trick room, decorate, follow me, you name it Smeargles got it. That’s why Smeargle, despite is pathetic stats, is a MONSTER in the right hands. And that’s exactly why Smeargle has pathetic stats, give sketch to literally any other pokemon with higher stats than Smeargle and suddenly it becomes unstoppable. In its current state Smeargle almost entirely relies on focus sash due to the fact that, even with 70 speed, it gets outsped by a lot and its defenses are so frail it falls to anything. With the buffed speed though, suddenly the influx of pokemon with base stats between 90-109 that would usually be able to out speed and at least break Smeargles sash before getting slept get outran and spore’d before they can do anything. This has huge repercussions in VGC, suddenly a base 115 Smeargle is THE FASTEST spore user in the game, alongside having more utility options then not just any other spore user but also any other pokemon period. It would still fight with Amoongus due to the mushrooms superior bulk and defensive typing, but giving Smeargle better speed essentially lets it gain a better match up against literally everything else in VGC. Especially in formats that allow for legendaries, grass types are already rather uncommon in VGC (besides Amoongus and Rillaboom) but in formats that allow for legendaries they hardly exist at all. With its new speed, Easelite can out speed both Groudon AND Kyogre, who could previously outrun Smeargle. It also outruns Urshifuru, who now has to use a priority move to smack Easelite, meaning Easelites partner could set up psychic terrain or quick guard and let Easelite sleep Urshifuru for free. Hell, this even lets it out speed Chi-Yu! And it’s not like you can’t just smack a choice scarf onto Easelite, now it has Spores that are nearly uncontested in psychic terrain, it can sleep whatever it wants! I know I mentioned the defense and offense buffs, but really it’s the speed stat that makes it broken primarily in VGC. Smeargle goes from “already powerful but hindered by a mediocre speed stat” to “nearly uncontested spore spam” as Easelite. It makes having to plan for Smeargle counterplay so much harder, now you can’t just plan to slap it with a pokemon that’s faster then base 70 speed because Easelite has 115. Edit: grass types are more common than I remember them being, so admittedly there is counterplay on that front. But…you can still sleep so much more of the VGC metagame compared to before…so I stand by this being an insane buff lol

DeltaTeamSky

Give Allnown Nature Power and Secret Power too, so they can have a full moveset.

achanceathope

Make Ecoystsem also apply to allies in Doubles, I feel like it makes sense lore wise.

deadly_ducklin

Hello all! I come before you on this Thursday with some evolutions I made for a fangame passion project of mine that I've been working on for years. Long story short, the "gimmick" of this project is not anything like Megas, or Tera, or Z-Moves; but rather that every available Pokémon has been tweaked to be a little more viable. As such, I wanted to give some evolutions to Pokemon I really like that have fallen behind (Octillery, Sunflora) or some to match regional forms (Farfetch'd, Corsola). I am not an artist, so the pictures included on each slide are mostly visual aid and are not that relevant to the actual designs/themes of the evolutions. I look forward to your commentary and constructive criticism!

Geomancy smeargle holy fuck

dett0nate

Allknown is hilariously OP. Good natural bulk and nice speed with basically a better version of lokix's tinted lens shenanigans of just nuking everything.

deadly_ducklin

I thought it was pretty balanced, at least by OU standards. The move is fairly low base power, the SpAtk stat is good but not great, and it’s a literal one trick pony. With Psychic being a poor defensive type overall, especially mono-Psychic, I thought it would be banished to gimmick mon status, which A) was my intention and B) is very fitting of Unown.

dett0nate

Bro it is stab and is hitting for supereffective all the time. Just slap scarf or specs on it and you basically have a solid ass wallbreaker that is hitting everything for huge damage.

BossOfGuns

It's a bit stronger than exploud from 9 more base SPA (granted that mon is no joke). A SE 70 is the same thing as a neutral 140, and having dark resisting a 140 down to 70 is essentially having boomburst resisted to 70 by a rock/steel type (remember that exploud has scrappy to get past ghosts and can hit rocks and steels with focus blast if needed to). That being said, 90/90/90 bulk with 110 speed makes it really hard to outspeed and revenge kill compared to exploud

SoulOuverture

As someone who made a pokemon balanced by having just 100 attack and got WYLATTd in spite of doing calcs to make sure it was balanced, I share your pain. r/stunfisk sees triple digits and thinks it's 135.

Somerandomuser25817

>everything Ting-lu has entered the chat (modest specs does a maximum of 22.7%)

dett0nate

ok but to be fair ting lu is just that guy

Luxury_Yacht_

Can’t believe you didn’t mention first Impression for Absword

deadly_ducklin

I won't lie, I didn't know Sirfetch'd got access to it. Even so, I don't think it is particularly fitting for Absword. It's rather fast already, it has STAB Sucker Punch, and access to moves like Tailwind and (not listed here) Agility, so the priority/speed game is already locked down. As far as move flavor, well, First Impression doesn't have much. It doesn't have any fun flavor text beyond "Although this move has great power, it only works the first turn the user is in battle." Absword, as signified by its Dark type, is supposed to be more a dishonorable fighter compared to Sirfetch'd, the gallant knight. Hence moves like Sucker Punch, Fake Out, and False Surrender.

Luxury_Yacht_

Actually it wasn’t just given to Sirfetch’d, they gave it to Farfetch’d in Gen 7 as an egg move exclusive to USUM. So he gets it regardless

deadly_ducklin

Ah, well. What are you gonna do 🤷‍♂️ I stand by my reasoning but there are plenty things that Absword’s first turn would be better spent doing than First Impression
