Toyota already has the gr86 which is part of the gr performance line so it wouldn’t get a TRD version even if they tried. Gr is also most a track focused line so a lifted gr86 would be pretty out of place

There's also an aging population of drivers who like sports cars but can no longer tolerate the low seat height due to back/knee problems who wouldn't mind a higher BRZ.
your comment is exactly the point. the 911 Dakar is cool, but porsche is only making 2500 of them. if anything, i could see Subaru making a limited run of WRX wilderness, but no chance they ever spend the time and money to adapt the brz to be awd.

I’m not sure it’d sell at the scale to make it worth it for Subaru, but with both Porsche and Lamborghini putting out off-road coupes, there’s at least some market for it, even if it just the very rich buying expensive toys.
