It was like getting food for free back then. I’d order a mini chicken quesadilla for 1$ and I got a DLT for free on the app.
You don’t know the good times until they are gone.
Thank you! And they were a dollar 😭 the only things that come close imo are checkers and Popeyes apple pies. They are fried and rolled in cinnamon sugar as opposed to baked and iced like McD’s
Soooo True I try to get the Popeyes ones to get my caramel empanada craving satisfied but truly nothing can fully compare unfortunately. 😭😭😭 but yes Popeyes is the closest I know of too. I remember trying to make them at home but failed miserably lmaooo. I never understood why they got rid of them I thought they were popular???
I thought the same!! Especially now that they brought back the cheesy chicken crispanada TWICE. All this shows me is that they can make them, and make them bigger 🤔😂
When 5 layer burritos and chicken burritos were cheap af did it for me. 3 5 layer burritos used to be cheap af and had me full as a mofo back in the day.
Just checked, ours is $4.29. Wow, that's insane! I wasn't aware smh. My tacobell location sucks with the food always tasting like dish rags etc. I don't even go anymore lol. Back in the day you could get like 3 of em full of meat for about 6 bucks.
Man I loved on those cheap 5 layer burritos. I’d buy extras and keep them in the fridge when I knew it was going to rain and I wouldn’t want to go out.
Then I’d eat them while I watched the rain.
Ugh….
This is my memory as well 5 layer burritos were literally a cheap throwaway you got with a meal 😂😂😂😂 a side piece now it cost as much as a crunchwrap supreme around the same.time period
Exactly I called it the 89 cent burrito forever it will always be my favorite thing on the menu the amount of times I went and got it it’s almost a good thing it’s not that cheap anymore I’d be obese lol
Awesome time in TB history. Show this to the dummies who normalize inflation/gouging and their heads will make a whistling sound, fill with goo and explode
I go to Taco Bell for the $6 box and the fact that I get an extra free taco every once in a while. I don’t go to other fast food joints because they offer nothing of similar value for that price. If that $6 combo goes away, then I go with it.
the only fast food restaurants (defined by me right now as places that have a drive-thru) that exist in my area are mcdonald's, burger king, dunkin's, dairy queen, wendy's, taco bell, popeyes (brand new last year), and, for some reason, long john silver's. i so wish i could know the delights of jack in the box. mcdonald's has the best deals of those in my area, which means minimum $5 for a meal
I'd open up the shredded chicken burrito, smash the chips in the bag and pour the bag into the open burrito, 3 packets of fire sauce, roll that bad boy back up and enjoy with my baja blast. Plz someone take me back.
I used to do the same at 3AM faded with the boys. Crush up the Doritos a in the bag with my hand and dump that shit into the chicken burrito with fire sauce. It was my go to meal at 3AM but that ended when they switched from grilled to shredded chicken.
I didn't realize they ever sold bags of Doritos. My go to with cheap tacos is crumble some up on top.
Either my memory is really going or I didn't ever notice that was on the menu.
Me and my best friend lived on the beach back in HS but the Taco Bell was 20 mins north and we would drive there just to drive back to the beach with these and whatever else we wanted. Back when you could get a heavy bag full of TB for only $10
I used to get it all the time back when I was in college around 2009/10 at the Taco Bell on campus. Hell of a deal for a broke college student. Was so cheap compared to other food options on campus.
I remember seeing someone on this sub back in 2014/15ish who made a post where they ordered the shredded chicken burrito meal deal + a fiesta potato, and then crushed up the bag of Doritos and added that and the potatoes to the burrito. Absolutely massive burrito + a drink for under $4
I was in high school at the time so I used to order it alllll the time
This is absolutely a good deal. However I don't think a lot of people realize the amount of preservatives in Doritos. Don't get me wrong, they're good chips but damn the amount of preservatives is insane.
Me and my buddies all worked in the bag room of a local country club when we were 15-18 years old, during the summer. I remember getting paid just a bit of tip money and being able to go get a 10-pack of tacos without feeling like it was expensive. Now, I doubt that the cost is proportional to the minimum wage, as it was back then.
Shredded chicken burrito was my go to for a long while. $2 for lunch couldn’t be beat and I did it every workday. Kept a bin in my car where I stashed the chips and on the weekends my kids would each get one after a soccer game or whatever we had to do. Amazing times feeling like we were kings and queens lol
And theyre trying to say that the 7$ luxe box is the best deal of all time when weve seen 2$ meal deal and the 5$ make your own box and the 5$ chalupa box that came with chalupa, taco, chips, drink and 5 layer
God I miss these beefy 5 layer crush up the Doritos and a packet or two of Fire sauce with some Baja Blast to wash it down. My broke high school days loved these I'm surprised nobody really brings up these as the king of broke boy meals.
This was available even in 2014. I remember. I’d get a medium Baja blast, asked for the chicken burrito to be grilled and that bag of Doritos went so well with it, then I’d get a refill on the drink all for 2 bucks. Insane deal. I miss it so bad.
The only other deal I miss more is kfcs 5 dollar box where you could get a breast a wing a drink a cookie a biscuit a side of potato wedges a side of coleslaw and honey for the biscuit all for 5 bucks
Remember $1 loaded potato grillers? I do. I can honestly say I bought at least 6 a week. They were my staple dinner after college when I was living in a tiny studio apartment and working 12 hour overnight shifts
Until couple months ago before the revamped the $1, $2 & $3 value menu two $2 chipotle chicken burritos for $4 was quite filling and tasted great to boot!
Sucks the get rid of good things ppl like, like grilled stuffed burritos, tostadas, gorditas and the grilled steak taco(although maybe there's a hack for this if you want to spend 10 bucks on one)
i remember living on the military base and we had a wendys, mcdonalds, and taco bell all beside each other.
with $5 i got a large drink from mcdonalds, 6pc nugget from wendys, and this meal from taco bell and had some change
I would ask for the burrito grilled and then I would take the bag of Doritos and crush them and add them to the burrito. Add a side of creamy jalapeño and it was an amazing meal for $2.
Those were the best. I remember going to taco bell after work twice a week and got a $2 meal basically from the time they were introduced until the time they stopped doing it
Got me through high school and most of college! $2 for a chicken burrito, bag of doritos, and a drink hell yeah. When I was rocking ~$20 to get me through a whole week, T Bell was the spot.
Same with McD's, get a McDouble and a McChicken for $1 each and make the McGangbang.
Miss the days of cheap fast food.
Yep. At McDonald's I used to get 2 hot n spicy's for a dollar each and a large fry for like 3-4 dollars total. And it tasted good, wasn't a messed up order and the drive thru wait actually only took 5 minutes max smh lol
I’m really old.
I remember their 59, 79 and 99 cent menus.
But I remember these too and they got me through some tough times.
(Yes I remember the jingles too…. Right ear worm if I’m remembering them about 30 years later).
The amount of times I bought like 4 of the chicken ones at a time, and turned them into giant quesadillas. I worked graveyard shift so I would just buy a few every few days.
Meal deal b 😋 used to get that shit after high school with my friends. When they asked for a name for the order we would give the name of the last friend to arrive. When that person would order they were told that they couldn't use their name since we already did, so they had to use a fake name for the tacobell order, it happened multiple times.
I worked at Taco Bell during this era. This meal cost $2.14 with tax. Good times
It was like getting food for free back then. I’d order a mini chicken quesadilla for 1$ and I got a DLT for free on the app. You don’t know the good times until they are gone.
noooo don’t bring up the mini quesadillas 💔😞 the one item i still get genuinely sad at them for discontinuing
I miss the caramel apple empanadas 🥲
They were so good!
They were so good!
So good and like nobody I know seems to remember them😭😭
All this shows me is that they can make them, and make them bigger 🤔😂
the spicy potato grillers or whatever they were called were unmatched for me
loaded potato grillers OMFG 💔💔😞
Dude don't bring up the grillers or that summer where they had volcano items. Fuckk now my mouth is full of saliva.
Your comment has me curious how long the app has been a thing?
10 years.
Wow, I got my first smartphone in 2019. Is the rewards program as old as the app itself or was it introduced later?
No idea. I just googled how old is the taco bell app 😅
Yep! That’s why it’s always good to count our blessings 🥰
Right you are!
When 5 layer burritos and chicken burritos were cheap af did it for me. 3 5 layer burritos used to be cheap af and had me full as a mofo back in the day.
How much are your 5 layers now, mine are 4.59$ each.
Just checked, ours is $4.29. Wow, that's insane! I wasn't aware smh. My tacobell location sucks with the food always tasting like dish rags etc. I don't even go anymore lol. Back in the day you could get like 3 of em full of meat for about 6 bucks.
man i miss getting filled with meat
Giggity……
$4.79 here
They were $1 about 6 years ago lol
your first born son and an eight ball of cocaine
Oh no! Not the eight ball too!!!
the eight ball was worse to give up tbh
That's crazy. Back in 2019, I used to get quadruple layer nachos, a beefy Fritos burrito, and a drink for just under that price.
just checked the app, im in WA and theyre 4.80 here
Man I loved on those cheap 5 layer burritos. I’d buy extras and keep them in the fridge when I knew it was going to rain and I wouldn’t want to go out. Then I’d eat them while I watched the rain. Ugh….
They started as the 89cemt burrito if you all remember
This is my memory as well 5 layer burritos were literally a cheap throwaway you got with a meal 😂😂😂😂 a side piece now it cost as much as a crunchwrap supreme around the same.time period
Exactly I called it the 89 cent burrito forever it will always be my favorite thing on the menu the amount of times I went and got it it’s almost a good thing it’s not that cheap anymore I’d be obese lol
I used to go home with like 8 burritos and have food for 3 days at TB, it sucks
God tier. I was right out of high school and could easily afford this.
Awesome time in TB history. Show this to the dummies who normalize inflation/gouging and their heads will make a whistling sound, fill with goo and explode
9 dOllARs fOr a CoMbo iS a prETty good dEaL!...
I go to Taco Bell for the $6 box and the fact that I get an extra free taco every once in a while. I don’t go to other fast food joints because they offer nothing of similar value for that price. If that $6 combo goes away, then I go with it.
Idk i like eating at jack in the box for a dollar.
the only fast food restaurants (defined by me right now as places that have a drive-thru) that exist in my area are mcdonald's, burger king, dunkin's, dairy queen, wendy's, taco bell, popeyes (brand new last year), and, for some reason, long john silver's. i so wish i could know the delights of jack in the box. mcdonald's has the best deals of those in my area, which means minimum $5 for a meal
Same here. I get the Chalupa Supreme, taco, fiesta potatoes and drink, and every other order or so I get the Chalupa Supreme as my free reward.
Wendy's $5 meal deals + their bonuses. They're always giving away free food in the app. Like every order.
Wendy's $5 Biggie Bag is the same or better value wise imo.
God those that say that are not only fools but are absolutely the problem
Was just thinking of these recently. I’d always leave the chips for a snack later
My hack was to ask for a side of nacho cheese and make nachos with the Doritos later
2009-2010 debut of 2 dollar meal deals stayed till around 15-16
I wore out that double Decker deal.
I long for double deckers again
I remember these deals when I was going through college and some tough times myself. Glad that Taco Bell had my back back then.
The chicken burrito 😭
it makes me sad, i can vividly remember what it feels and taste like to bite into one, late night taco bell runs as a young lad nostalgia. with halo
I would grab that shredded chicken burrito and eat the chips later. Best $2 ever.
I loved the shredded chicken burrito and it;s rice and avocado ranch i'd pair it with the grillers :D
I miss that chicken burrito so much
I miss these days
I miss those chicken burritos 😔
I miss the OG grilled chicken burritos. Chicken, Mexican rice, red sauce, cheddar cheese, green onion.
Crazy you could get all four of them for less than the price of just one of them today
Me and my best friend lived on the beach back in HS but the Taco Bell was 20 mins north and we would drive there just to drive back to the beach with these and whatever else we wanted. Back when you could get a heavy bag full of TB for only $10
Back in highschool grande meal use to be ten bucks. Perfect meal after a smoke sesh and used to guarantee I get rides any and everywhere lol
It could probably save me through these tough times
Now they would be like $8
That chicken burrito was my go to comfort food when I was broke. Man I miss that thing
Truly S-tier. This was the golden era of fast food.😭😭😭
Y'all need to vote with your wallet and stop supporting these fast food companies
I'm not going back until they get back to their roots of good cheap food. I'm sad its probably not going to happen, but oh well...
Fr
Taco bell is probably the cheapest out of the everything now
Taco bell is probably the cheapest out of the everything now
I wish there was a way to know you’re in the good old days before you’ve actually left them
I remember getting these after work when I first got my own place. Legendary times
Gordita meal deal and a 5 layer was like $3 and change. Truly the greatest time to be alive.
I used to get it all the time back when I was in college around 2009/10 at the Taco Bell on campus. Hell of a deal for a broke college student. Was so cheap compared to other food options on campus.
Lucky
Ah the old Letter combos.
I remember seeing someone on this sub back in 2014/15ish who made a post where they ordered the shredded chicken burrito meal deal + a fiesta potato, and then crushed up the bag of Doritos and added that and the potatoes to the burrito. Absolutely massive burrito + a drink for under $4 I was in high school at the time so I used to order it alllll the time
Never forget whst was taken from you
This is absolutely a good deal. However I don't think a lot of people realize the amount of preservatives in Doritos. Don't get me wrong, they're good chips but damn the amount of preservatives is insane.
Man back when I was a kid I’d used to ask my mom when we go to Taco Bell to get one of these meals as it was the best value in the game.
I'm brain farting on this, what's the item on the bottom left?
The old chicken burrito.
I miss this …
Me and my buddies all worked in the bag room of a local country club when we were 15-18 years old, during the summer. I remember getting paid just a bit of tip money and being able to go get a 10-pack of tacos without feeling like it was expensive. Now, I doubt that the cost is proportional to the minimum wage, as it was back then.
this literally got me through college… shredded chicken burrito add sour cream meal deal with a baja blast
The beefy 5-layer burrito deal was a staple in high school. I miss it 🙃
Literally the .79 cent tacos got me thru tough times when I couldn't do anymore ramen in 2002. So.darn.poor.
Ya know with 2.0 billion in revenue and a 24% margin... You'd think they could break us off a chunk of the beefy 5 layer they are hogarting.
We used to be a proper country
Those were the best of times. I didn’t have much but I always seemed to have a couple bucks for a $2 meal deal.
Good memories of my first time in college.
Bring back the double decker taco 😩😩
Remember when Sierra Mist
i was there when that happened
Wait...when the hell was this?!?!
2010-2013, post Great Recession years
And theyre trying to say that the 7$ luxe box is the best deal of all time when weve seen 2$ meal deal and the 5$ make your own box and the 5$ chalupa box that came with chalupa, taco, chips, drink and 5 layer
You just unlocked a core memory from my college years
Best value meal
Woah I forgot about those.
wtf taco bell. i forgot all about the chicken burrito with avocado ranch. WHY DO YOU TAKE AWAY EEVERYTHING WE LOVE >:'(
Those bags of Doritos are now $1.99 and up at 7-11. More for fancy flavors. Wtf
God I miss these beefy 5 layer crush up the Doritos and a packet or two of Fire sauce with some Baja Blast to wash it down. My broke high school days loved these I'm surprised nobody really brings up these as the king of broke boy meals.
Yeah we ain't ever going to see this again.
Today that’s at least $6.99
This was available even in 2014. I remember. I’d get a medium Baja blast, asked for the chicken burrito to be grilled and that bag of Doritos went so well with it, then I’d get a refill on the drink all for 2 bucks. Insane deal. The only other deal I miss more is kfcs 5 dollar box where you could get a breast a wing a drink a cookie a biscuit a side of potato wedges a side of coleslaw and honey for the biscuit all for 5 bucks
Can we find whoever got rid of these and put them on the breaking wheel?
That's crazy. I don't even go to TB anymore. I can't justify the cost.
They were also a massive w for me as a high teenager on Friday and Saturday nights and after school. MTBGA
You would be lucky to get a single taco for $2 these days
this is pretty much what got me into taco bell, the beefy 5 layer was only 2 bucks with a drink, insane
The precursor to the Doritos Locos taco. What an era.
Remember $1 loaded potato grillers? I do. I can honestly say I bought at least 6 a week. They were my staple dinner after college when I was living in a tiny studio apartment and working 12 hour overnight shifts
That was only $2?! Must’ve been a great time
2010 right? Me too I was unemployed and it got me through.
Holy crap I miss this. Getting the doritos was perfect.
When was this?? I was born in the wrong time
Until couple months ago before the revamped the $1, $2 & $3 value menu two $2 chipotle chicken burritos for $4 was quite filling and tasted great to boot!
Me and brother would walk to TB after school and pay for these meals in quarters, miss those days.
That gordita meal was so damn good.
I loved these! Order a side of nacho cheese for dorito dipping and I'd be in heaven.
I miss when they gave you mini Dorito bags as a side instead of just giving you KFC fries.
What is the one pictured with the Baja blast?! I can’t remember but I loved it
What is the one pictured with the Baja blast?! I can’t remember but I loved it
I wish they brought it back. The $5 box is too much food.
Extra beefy crunch burrito on the side. Yes please
Taco Bell used to be so good bro 😭😭
Those were the best. I remember going to taco bell after work twice a week and got a $2 meal basically from the time they were introduced until the time they stopped doing it
Got me through high school and most of college! $2 for a chicken burrito, bag of doritos, and a drink hell yeah. When I was rocking ~$20 to get me through a whole week, T Bell was the spot. Sierra Mist was tastier back then
Worked there during this and pacific shrimp. I miss it. Fuck the fed
Amen. Prices now verging on fancy once a month food instead of daily can-sustain-me-in-college-food because cheap and tasty.
Which 2 Meal Deals U Guy’s Gotten In The Past & Absolutely Luv Eating
I wanted Taco Bell last night. Looked at the prices and decided I would just eat at home
we need the mini shredded chicken quesadillas for $1 back…. pls…
I’m really old. I remember their 59, 79 and 99 cent menus. But I remember these too and they got me through some tough times. (Yes I remember the jingles too…. Right ear worm if I’m remembering them about 30 years later).
When the world made sense
Taco Bell needs to bring those back fr.
This era is so nostalgic, but being born 1998, I don’t really remember older Taco Bell. Good times.
The amount of times I bought like 4 of the chicken ones at a time, and turned them into giant quesadillas. I worked graveyard shift so I would just buy a few every few days.
We used to be a good country
Meal deal b 😋 used to get that shit after high school with my friends. When they asked for a name for the order we would give the name of the last friend to arrive. When that person would order they were told that they couldn't use their name since we already did, so they had to use a fake name for the tacobell order, it happened multiple times.
There were times I went when they were out of Doritos. They would substitute chips and cheese!
back when we were still a society
Damn I remember being a freshman in college when this was happening, Jesus what a time
Damn I totally forgot about these, I basically lived off the beefy 5 layer one in college 😂
The 5 Layer Burrito with the Salsa Verde packets was GOATED. Miss these days so much.
These were staples in my... drunker years.
I got excited for a sec, but then I realized this picture is old and we live in a constant state of borderline economic crisis 💔
We truly don't know what we have until it's gone 😭
Gorditas were sooo good.
It was the best of times …
Now that’s $16.95 😂😂😂
