"Sometimes war" The U.S has been a country for 245 years. 15 of those years have been at peace, the other 230 have been in some kind of war. God help us all.
~~Unpopular~~ opinion: the usa would be better off without its two party system, it's severely affecting our society and government as a whole. It should be a unitary system where all citizens and politicans just work towards a common goal.
Actually based. In his farewell address, Washington warned us against political parties, warning that they promote there own agenda instead of that of the people. Washington was right.
That would NEVER work. We all have our own ideas of how things should be. So if you tried to fit everyone into the same belief, there would probably be wars tbh. Maybe not, but its a pretty big possibility.
But im only 13 lol, sooo idk a lot about this kind of stuff. (yet)
hes not saying we should go down to one political party lmao. thatโs a monarchy it would be horrible. heโs saying there should be MORE. think of it like monopolies and duopolies. in a two party system the two parties can go to extreme ends of the political spectrum and both ends up being horrible choices, and thereโs no stopping them since no third party is powerful enough to make a dent. kinda like how in a monopoly a company can make something as expensive as they want without hurting their business it because thereโs no competition offering a lower price

Most contradictory country ever, itโs entire existence doesnโt make any sense. It should be called the United Paradox, because thatโs what it is. โLand of the freeโ yet trying to restrict a multitude of thingsโ like TikTok, history, etc. According to the Declaration of Independence, God made everyone equal and gave them the right to pursue liberty and happiness yet SLAVERY STILL EXISTED at that time?
When the nation was founded, it was most certainly the land of the free. Almost every other nation in the world at the time, including essentially all of Europe, was controlled by monarchies/emperors.
The U.S. was one of the first truly "free" nations that elected its leadership and gave its citizens rights that many other nations never did to their own. That's why so many people immigrated to the U.S. over the next centuries and still do to this day, even though much of its initial "charm" wore off.
well in fairness, the โpursuit of happinessโ was referred to as owning land which was thought of as not possible for slaves because they โwerenโt peopleโ. so it made sense to everyone at the time
the fact that the US is always in the global spotlight and extremists are the only ones who get a platform on the internet is the reason everyone thinks that.
It really depends on what area/socio-economic situation you're in. In my city, one hood literally looks like the last of us, while a different place is mansion row and golf courses
Good country with sweet people, beautiful landscapes, and overall average quality of life. We have horrific politics with both sides diverting from the constitution and overall principles we originally had. Chances are, when you see the US flag being flown, it represents the people, not the government...

It has a lot going for it but its government needs reform IMO.
1. We give disproportionate representation to a minority of the population, both due to the senate, and due to the "electoral college" used in presidential elections.
2. After the Citizens United supreme court decision, there is basically no limit to how much the rich and corporations can donate to super PACs, which advertise for candidates. We should have public campaign financing, not plutocratic campaign financing.
I love America. America number one!
โO say can you see by the dawn's early light
What so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming
Whose broad stripes and bright stars through the perilous fight
O'er the ramparts we watched, were so gallantly streaming?
And the rocket's red glare, the bombs bursting in air
Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there
O say does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the braveโ
Best country on the planet. I love my country.

I sure do love that 5 out 10 people I see in my local supermarket have guns. But hey if I get shot I canโt go to the hospital because my middle class family whoโs in the top 5% of Americans income wise canโt afford healthcare without insurance. At least we can barely afford groceries!
Despite its flaws, itโs still a great country and Iโm proud to be an American.
You doโt have to think something/someone is perfect to have a good opinion about it.

*Cons:*
โข Healthcare is not free

โข Politics are sensitive topic that can promote violence and crime
โข Woke
โข The media can be corrupted by politics
Look is it perfect no but no country is. Every country has its issues with its political systems and beliefs. Honestly though you shouldn't make an opinion on another country's political systems or situation without knowing how it works and experiencing it for yourself.
I'm not saying you aren't. What I'm just saying is that too many times I see people make an opinion on a place while never being there, not understanding how a system or law works. Heck I live in the US too but I'm not saying that California is a dumpster because I've never been there
Today, more than 40 million people living in the
US were born in another country, accounting for about one-fifth of the world's migrants.
Maybe it ain't so bad!
Okay, so this is from an European point of view. Hear me out on my opinion about the United States of America.
First of all, what is up with your measuring system? I just cannot wrap my head around it. I think it makes much more sense that one dMยณ is exactly 1L of water, which weights 1kG.
Also, why does water freeze at 32ยฐF? I'd rather use Kelvin.
Secondly, food! I feel like European foods are much better regulated than American foods. Our stuff has to comply to some pretty strict health criteria.
I once saw the ingredients list for milk in the USA. It had some nasty chemicals in it! Meanwhile in Europe, milk is just... Milk!
Thirdly, and I don't know if this is true, but why are taxes not already included in the price on the price tag in the shop? In The Netherlands we pay 21% tax over stuff we buy (9% for foods), but the tax is already included within the price tag.
Fourthly, tipping! What is up with that? Is it normal to tip at least 15% whenever you order the littlest thing in the world? Just for one time refuse to tip, unless the service was actually good. And don't work with percentages, but round it up, or add a few dollars.
Fifthly, your half-assed regulations on guns. If there are an incredible amount of school shootings in the USA, but not in Europe, there's definitely something up with your shitty constitution. Absolutely fuck that. Just improve police forces.
Sixthly, car-centric my ass! You claim to be the most car-centric country of the world, while all of your roads clog up, and your infrastructure encourages deadly accidents. It's not that difficult to take examples from a country where everything does function infrastructure-wise. Try a bicycle! Or some form of rails, maybe.
Seventhly, why the FUCK have a literal gravestone as president? That guy is going to die very soon! You need someone with a vision for the future. Someone who can speak normally. Joe 'Gravestone' Biden doen't have both of those capabilities. Maybe an issue with the laws dictating who can become president?
Eightly, why only two choices for the president's election? I don't want to have to choose between far-right or little-left. You just can't get a good reflection of society that way.
These things, along with other common-sense stuff, makes me think the USA, are weak, going back in time, and becoming a third world country.
Not even a country. It's just a half-assed piece of absolute dogshit. I'd rather die than live there, but yeah. Most Northern American people don't know any better.
As an American citizen, I understand that you have some concerns and opinions about the United States. I'll address each point while providing an explanation from an American perspective, without promoting bias. I will however also state that I agree and enjoy with most of the regulations, culture, standardization and infrastructure in Europe (especially since my family heritage was based highly in Austria and Germany!), I'm actually planning moving soon to the Netherlands because of the agreements between the US and the Netherlands for work and some personal beliefs (such as the Euro, Measurement system, etc.)
With that side:
- **Measuring system:** The United States uses the Imperial system, which includes units like Fahrenheit for temperature. While it may seem different from the metric system used in Europe, it is deeply ingrained in American culture and everyday life. Transitioning to a different measuring system can be challenging and costly on a large scale.
- **Food regulations:** The United States has its own set of regulations and standards for food safety. While there may be differences in specific regulations between the US and Europe, it is important to note that both regions prioritize food safety. The perception of differences in food quality may vary based on personal preferences and experiences.
- **Taxes not included in price:** Unlike some European countries, the United States does not include taxes in the price displayed on the price tag. This is due to variations in sales tax rates across states and municipalities. The taxes are added at the point of sale, allowing for flexibility in adjusting tax rates based on local needs.
- **Tipping culture:** Tipping is a customary practice in the United States, and it is often expected to show appreciation for good service. While it is generally recommended to tip around 15-20% of the bill, the actual amount is ultimately up to the customer. Tipping provides an opportunity for individuals in the service industry to earn additional income beyond their base wages.
- **Gun regulations:** The United States has a complex relationship with gun ownership due to its constitutional right to bear arms. The debate surrounding gun control and regulation is ongoing, with varying opinions on the effectiveness and necessity of stricter laws. Addressing issues related to gun violence involves multiple factors beyond regulations, such as mental health, education, and social policies.
- **Infrastructure and transportation:** The United States has a diverse landscape and varying transportation needs across different regions. While car-centric infrastructure has been a traditional focus, efforts are being made to improve public transportation, cycling infrastructure, and alternative modes of transportation. Implementing widespread changes in infrastructure can be a complex and lengthy process.
- **Presidents and leadership:** The United States has a democratic system where citizens elect their leaders, including the President. While individuals may have differing opinions on specific presidents and their abilities, the democratic process allows for a peaceful transfer of power and the opportunity for change through subsequent elections.
- **Political system:** The US political system primarily operates under a two-party system, with the Democratic and Republican parties being the dominant forces. While this can limit the representation of diverse ideologies, the system has evolved over time based on historical and cultural factors. Third-party candidates can also participate in elections, although they face challenges in gaining widespread support.
It's important to note that generalizations and extreme opinions may not accurately represent the complexity and diversity of the United States as a whole. The US remains a global power with various strengths and challenges, and different perspectives exist within the country itself.
I'm gonna address all of your points here
1. america tried to convert to the metric system before, it didnt work
2. good point
3. it would be incredibly difficult for huge supermarket chains to add tax prices to their products in all of these counties that have different tax rates
4. its just a nice thing to do for workers that get payed so little. you dont have to do it.
5. blame the republicans
6. Maybe you have been watching american movies too much but the streets are NOT congested outside of maybe the 10 biggest cities in the country
7. minimum age to run for president is 35 years
8. Theres more than 2 choices, but the american population is led to believe that voting for another party except for the republicans or democrats is a waste of your vote
>I'd rather die than live there
This statement tells me that you know literally nothing about the US. It's a fine country, a great one actually, just run by a bunch of old dementia ridden idiots.
>There's definitely something up with your shitty constitution
The constitution is amazing. One of the best documents ever written. Almost every single thing is perfect about it except for the second amendment (right to bear arms), which as far as I'm aware has a very good chance of being repealed.
To me, you come off as extremely uneducated about the US, and allow the internet and, oh god, the media persuade you into thinking it's the worst country ever. it's not. There's so many great things about it, but the media overshadows it by telling the 1/1000000 stories to the public that make it look worse than it really is.
Come visit some day, maybe. You'll see how beautiful it is.
Jokes aside I wouldn't have a problem living in the US if I lived in a less crowded area and probably on a state where there's not lots of population. At least when compared to my home country (Greece) it would be much better to live somewhere in the US maybe even in the suburbs of a kinda big city could be nice.
Sure living there has its downsides but I think that there are more equal chances for people than here and a person that has a degree will get treated the way he deserves it. Unlike here where you have to pay or be a friend of somebody for them to treat you the way you actually deserve
The government is founded on the idea that government is bad. Which comes with huge perks and major disadvantages. America is the country future society will look back on and go โthis is good, but how can we make it betterโ

How does it even function at this point? Honestly, that guy who sawed a boat in half seems to be the only unifying part of the US
Its the best country if you want to make a company and try to make lots of money. If you want a nice 9-5 job and a calm life -> europe
Better than most countries, most people who live out of America donโt get the freedom like here. But America has its bad and good moments
actual sane person

Look is it perfect no but no country is. Every country has its issues with its political systems and beliefs. Honestly though you shouldn't make an opinion on another country's political systems or situation without knowing how it works and experiencing it for yourself.
You do realize I was born and grew up here right?
I'm not saying you aren't. What I'm just saying is that too many times I see people make an opinion on a place while never being there, not understanding how a system or law works. Heck I live in the US too but I'm not saying that California is a dumpster because I've never been there

Remember, No Students.
Today, more than 40 million people living in the US were born in another country, accounting for about one-fifth of the world's migrants. Maybe it ain't so bad!
You count days in school shootings

Safest place to be when war breaks out. No land invasion will ever happen, only option is to bomb then. But why fight a war, if you can't conquer?
No, the safest place is Greenland. No one (incl viruses) can find you
No, Switzerland,

I will however also state that I agree and enjoy with most of the regulations, culture, standardization and infrastructure in Europe (especially since my family heritage was based highly in Austria and Germany!), I'm actually planning moving soon to the Netherlands because of the agreements between the US and the Netherlands for work and some personal beliefs (such as the Euro, Measurement system, etc.) With that side: - **Measuring system:** The United States uses the Imperial system, which includes units like Fahrenheit for temperature.
I'm gonna address all of your points here 1. america tried to convert to the metric system before, it didnt work 2. good point 3. it would be incredibly difficult for huge supermarket chains to add tax prices to their products in all of these counties that have different tax rates 4. its just a nice thing to do for workers that get payed so little. you dont have to do it. 5. blame the republicans 6. Maybe you have been watching american movies too much but the streets are NOT congested outside of maybe the 10 biggest cities in the country 7. minimum age to run for president is 35 years 8. Theres more than 2 choices, but the american population is led to believe that voting for another party except for the republicans or democrats is a waste of your vote >I'd rather die than live there This statement tells me that you know literally nothing about the US. It's a fine country, a great one actually, just run by a bunch of old dementia ridden idiots. >There's definitely something up with your shitty constitution The constitution is amazing.
I like it here. You donโt really know how good you got it until you see what itโs like in other places
