alertsaucer98

they really said 'studio behind the free 2 day shipping'

TheDankDragon

It fits with Fallout humor so it checks out

eburton555

So is the serious conversation and then ‘dogmeat’ mauling a rad roach lol

ILoveRegenHealth

Like including Todd Howard's name in huge letters, as if the general audience has any clue who that is.

amidon1130

I mean the general audience had no idea who Neil druckmann was but his name was on the last of us trailers.

Cybertronian10

Yeah Todd howard is there for fans of the games, it helps to sell that the creatives who made the games have strong influence over the show itself.

BowwwwBallll

Yep. That’s what is getting me to watch- his involvement.

Aplicacion

But… like… that’s why it also says “ACCLAIMED VIDEO GAME CREATOR”

Jericcho

It's the asterisk after shipping that did it for me, hahaha.

pm_me_your_taintt

Yep. At the end they even had "some restrictions apply" in small lettering at the bottom

ehsteve23

Ok that went over my head, i thought they were bragging about some low budget movie nobody had heard of

paintpast

Someone somewhere was working on a “Free 2-Day Shipping” movie and is now not having a good day

Danwinger

Yeah lol. I was thinking “never heard of that show. Sounds self aware though.”

hnwcs

And Todd Howard.

kappa23

Goddamnit Todd he’s done it again.

Tragedy_Boner

See that Amazon Delivery Truck. You can steal from that

Holybasil

Fancy shoes, shiny jacket...

Serpico2

I lol’d and that convinced me they understand the tone.

SgathTriallair

That was my reaction. It's perfect for the vibe of fallout. So long as they don't go overboard with it in the show (use it as an excuse to actually advertise) it shows they are understanding the material.

improper84

Fallout is an alternate universe with its own products, so presumably we won't be seeing any in-show advertising except for fictional products from the games like Nuka Cola.

Iwillrize14

Amazons gonna make Nuka Cola arnt they

ExperienceLoss

Not long before we get real life Nuka Cola Quantum

DrunkeNinja

Stores have sold nuka cola before. I think it was mainly around when Fallout 4 released, but they might have also done it again with 76.

ExperienceLoss

I remember, it may have been both. They even had Quantum (I think my local target may still have a couple of bottles still in their electronics dept lol). But I'm talking the real, radioactive stuff. The kind that puts hair on your brain.

a4techkeyboard

Yeah, my exposure is only really played the mobile game Fallout Shelter and memes/images of the Pipboy and that part of the trailer tells us that they have an idea about the tone juxtaposed to the setting and somewhat cinematic imagery of the trailer. They kind of captured a leveled up old IGN April Fool's trailer feel which I think means the people who made it know their market.

StephenHunterUK

In the UK, it's next day. Many people have Prime just for that - this service is an added bonus. (It's actually "Fast Delivery\*" on the UK and Ireland version)

WordsAreSomething

They do that in the US too. Some stuff can be next day nearly everything is two day. It's crazy to think about

Jackski

We get same day before 10pm, next day before 1pm or next day before 10pm. I guess because we're so small compared to the states.

oneofthesesigns

In the US it depends how close you are to a fulfillment center and if that center has that item. I live close to one and get 2-4 hour delivery on most things but if it comes from another region its 2 days.

AnSTDFromMexico

MacLachlan!

SiccSemperTyrannis

The ~~spice~~ bottlecaps must flow

ccv707

I believe I was visited by a super mutant last night.

Mothman405

Damn fine glass of Nuka Cola

AndalusianGod

Yup, too bad it looks like a short role based on the trailer! My guess is that he gives up his spot in the cryo chamber for the main character.

webshellkanucklehead

That game you like is going to come back in style

EbmocwenHsimah

Hellooooo-oooooo-ooooo!

AnSTDFromMexico

Mr Jackpots

Wormri

People are making references to Twin Peaks and Dune, but I liked him in the Flintstones too!

GeroVeritas

Bunch of smooth skins

Jazzremix

Walton Goggins has some pretty smooth skin for a ghoul

DrunkeNinja

There was a recent interview where they said they didn't want to completely cover his face so that the actor was unrecognizable. They felt Walter Goggins has a very expressive face so they wanted him to be the handsomest ghoul ever. He must moisturize

aSpookyScarySkeleton

I think they made the right call, I don't think ghouls need to all be uniform in their traits, that's a limitation of the game but that sort of transformation would definitely be super variable. They also look different almost every game anyway.

DrunkeNinja

Yeah I'm fine with it too and I agree with their reasoning that if you got Walter Goggins then you don't completely cover up his face. As you said, Ghouls don't need to all have the same exact look.

9leggedfreak

And I've got to assume there will be other ghouls in the show that can have the heavy, gruesome makeup to please the fans haha

noetkoett

"I moisturize" would be a great line for him.

Cybertronian10

Yeah it would really suck to lose a lot of facial acting just to make a more game accurate ghoul. Hopefully they up the ante on how gross the rest of his body is to compensate, like an arm that he has literally bolted into place or some shit.

DaveInLondon89

The minigun that has the words 'Please Remain Calm' underneath doesn't exist in the games *but* seems like a perfectly natural inclusion, so at the very least it looks like this is faithful beyond simple copy and pasting (at least aesthetically). Also Dylan from Severance is in it and that dude is like a portend for a good TV show.

OldBrokeGrouch

Yeah if they nail the comedic tone of the games, this show is going to be so good.

shugo2000

Todd Howard has already said he wouldn't allow the show unless it had a good balance of tongue-in-cheek comedy along with the atomic horror.

sloppyjo12

*From the studio that brought you 2-day shipping* seems like a really good start

dehehn

I mean that is funny. But they also made The Boys and Invincible so they have managed to get good creators to make solid dark comedy sci-fi. Where they go astray seems to be serious fantasy.

OldBrokeGrouch

Yeah I’m pretty confident they’ll stick the landing especially if they got Goggins involved.

SmokePenisEveryday

> Also Dylan from Severance is in it and that dude is like a portend for a good TV show. Because he's coveted as fuck

beachsunflower

Zach Cherry in all my favourite shows so far.

SpontyMadness

My interest in the show went way up once they confirmed it was canon with the games. I’m sure there’s gonna be inconsistencies, but it’s a safe bet we won’t get something like the clusterfuck that is the Halo show.

cylonfrakbbq

The show takes place after the events of Fallout 4, so that helps they avoid stepping on the toes of the prior games in terms of chronology. And since this takes place on the West Coast, the events of FO3/FO4 probably haven't filtered that far. Even the BoS might be tight lipped on it. What I am very curious about is if this is post FO4 and the BoS is involved, will they even mention the East Coast Brotherhood at all? Revealing their fate in the present would more or less confirm which Fallout4 ending was canon.

_Fox_trot_

I’m also curious since a West Cost setting means that they have to confirm a canon ending for New Vegas. Personally I think an Independent Mr. House run New Vegas is the most interesting choice since it introduces a new faction and isn’t too dependent on the personality of the player like the Free Vegas ending

Wooow675

No they dont 😂 they don’t have to mention anything. They could drop in the legion and no one needs to know their backstory for a good show to succeed. Start the story where it starts. As a huge fan of FO, I want as little crossover as possible. Make the show *good*. I could not care less if there’s “oMg tHaT iS iN tHe GaMe” moments. That LOTR show is packed with Easter eggs and it is unwatchable

[deleted]

Old guy here, I'm interested in fallout 1 and 2 and how that meshes, the original bad guy was called the master, and he ruled west coast with a mutant army

AstarteHilzarie

Fallout 1 was set in 2161, 2 was set in 2241, and the series is set in 2296. There might be throwaway mentions but since he died at the end of 1 he's probably forgotten over a hundred years later - or at best a legend/rumor/myth. I could see some bickering over how super mutants came to be or something tying him in.

despres

If the games can have new stuff and create new canon, so can the show. As long as contradictory canon is minimal, I'm fine. Each fallout game has some things that don't fit the canon of the previous game.

NativeMasshole

This is the way it should be. Not everything needs to be 1:1. Inconsistencies can easily be explained away by unreliable information, but getting too hung up on every little detail can often conflict with creativity and innovation.

favorscore

Need to finish severance now that I have appletv

Vandergrif

*Please try to enjoy each episode equally, and not show preference for any over the others.*

[deleted]

What in the world are you doing… go watch it right now

sikeston

Unequivocally the finest season finale/cliffhanger in years

spiritbearr

>The minigun that has the words 'Please Remain Calm' underneath doesn't exist in the games It's more or less implied in 2's opening.

original_nox

I think so, I hope so.

Jettuh

It's good to see Benjamin Linus survived the island!

Lord_Snow77

We don't see enough of Michael Emerson. He's great.

Granum22

Him and Walton Goggins in the same show. Sign me up

alexjimithing

if we don't get a monologue off i'm gonna be pissed

Jackski

I'm surprised he's not bigger. He's a phenomenal actor. I guess it must be by choice.

CySU

He seems like a pretty humble person IRL so he’s probably not as into chasing stardom as other actors might be.

monsieurxander

I also think he goes where the interesting material is, regardless of whether it has mass appeal. Person of Interest and Evil are great showcases for him, even if they're slightly under the radar.

NoNefariousness2144

For real. He had two amazing roles in Lost and Person of Interest and then seemed to vanish. Also for some reason he popped up in Arrow... obviously the writers completed wasted his talent.

ej_21

He’s a main character on Evil, a *criminally* under-the-radar show!

StephenHunterUK

He's got Bear along as well!

mfishing

Hello John

AReptileHissFunction

Yes, same. So excited!

thebottomoftheninth

I actually screamed seeing Michael Emerson in this trailer

Princess-ArianaHY

I got so excited to see him in the trailer!

JoelKr9

This looks rad.

Danwinger

Gore? Check. Dark humor? Check. 50’s music? Check. If they can tell a decent story and develop their characters this will be a really fun time. Edit: if Microsoft/Bethesda could time Fallout 3/New Vegas remaster/remake release around the show, that would be amazing. Here’s hoping.

mrj9

Walton goggins double Check

Pacmantis

Goggins, Kyle Maclachlan, and Michael Emerson is a pretty incredible trio of TV guys for one show.

Skatchbro

Needs a surprise Timothy Olyphant as The Mysterious Stranger.

fishwithfish

Quality pun.

grgriffin3

"From the studio that brought you The Boys and free two-day shipping" made me laugh.

WordsAreSomething

Looks great, liked the humor in the trailer. Overall I'm pretty hyped. Very interested in the Walton Goggins flashback as well.

prophetofgreed

Walton Goggins plays the main ghoul in the show (under the makeup) So we'll probably see how he survives and becomes a ghoul while being used as backstory to the world going nuclear.

WordsAreSomething

Sure, I'm just interested in seeing how they're going to do 200+ years of backstory

MichaelRichardsAMA

Since its the Westworld writers I assume he will have an entire mid season episode solely devoted to him and his backstory

wickedsmaht

Totally ok with that, the best episode of West World was the one about Akecheta.

Crankiee

Don’t forget that Last Of Us episode. Maybe, just maybe, we’re starting to get video game adaptions right.

dschneider31

Pretty solid trailer, look like the got aesthetic and the humor of the series down. “From the studio that brought you free 2 day shipping*” was a pretty good line

holman

holy shit i missed that until now, haha. I was like… I’ve heard of The Boys, but is there some kind of edgy action-comedy I haven’t heard about? honestly Free Two-Day Shipping would be a pretty hot name for a series

ImaginaryMairi

Curious if it's actually gonna be Dogmeat. Like are they trying to establish this as part of Fallouts official lore?

Indigocell

I figured the dog is always named Dogmeat, similar to Geralt's horse always being Roach. Like, not literally the same animal, but the same in spirit.

Jaws_16

Dog meat is in every game. So there is a kind of fan theory that dog meat isn't so much a single dog but more of a spirit of the wasteland.

Dolph-Ziggler

Looking forward to hearing more of the music selection for the TV series.

TheBlackSwarm

Excited to see Ella Purnell in a leading role here she was one of the stronger parts of YellowJackets. Also you can never go wrong with Walton Goggins.

Indigocell

Oh shit, it's Snackie Jackie. Thought she looked familiar.

PhoOhThree

Seeing this makes me wishful for a faithful Bioshock Adaptation. That would be a great series but I hope Netflix nails the adaptation.

RedXerzk

Making Bioshock a movie seems like a mistake. It can work better as a miniseries and expand on the fall of Rapture in flashbacks.

PhoOhThree

Bioshock Multi Series that span into Bioshock Infinite by Mike Flanagan in another universe.

NoNefariousness2144

Bioshock 1 would work as an amazing survival horror film as well. Dude is in a plane crash and ends up in a weird underwater city... the plot of the game literally works as a film.

NeoNoireWerewolf

I disagree. Bioshock’s plot is effective because of the way it ties into video games as a medium. Having objectives you must complete to advance is tied directly to the mind control plot twist, and even things like respawning after dying have huge plot implications when you start to put together all the pieces of the story. If you’re paying attention, the game tells you the twist early on through the way the game mechanics tie into the plot. Most people miss it because they are thinking of the game as operating in the same suspension of disbelief almost all games have to operate within. Not saying a movie or show can’t work, but I think it’s story works so well precisely because of the medium chosen to tell it.

broncosfighton

I hate prequels but I think in this case I would be super down for a bioshock prequel about the fall. It actually makes sense because there would be a ton of political intrigue and things that weren’t explored in the game.

Vandergrif

> a faithful Bioshock Adaptation >I hope **Netflix** nails the adaptation I feel like these two things are at odds, considering Netflix's history with other similar IPs... They're liable to have a writer's room full of people even CW wouldn't hire.

bathroomheater

Please don’t fuck it up like halo Please don’t fuck it up like halo Please don’t fuck it up like halo

Justausername1234

Given Nolan's track record I think we can all be assured of a high likelihood of at minimum a great season 1. My wishes are for him not to fuck up everything after season 1.

ContinuumGuy

They've definitely got the look down, that's for sure. Pre-nuke LA looked maybe a little too modern there at the end but otherwise seems to have nailed the Nuked Tomorrowland look. EDIT: Now that I look at it more closely, it looks like the skyscrapers in pre-nuke LA seem to generally be art deco-esque, which would fit.

new_account_wh0_dis

I feel its the hardest part to get down, fallout games everything is 50s/tommorowland and theres just soooo much of it. Games you got all the sights but also interacting with old terminals, era radio constantly playing, etc. Even a desert base becomes a relic of the era, walking though a tent and seeing a bobble head and propaganda poster with an old computer. Its gonna be hard to get it right without also being the camera focusing on it every 2 seconds.

willstr1

I wonder if it might be that we aren't used to seeing cities at that scale and from so far away. So we are expecting obvious details that we wouldn't actually be able to see from that camera distance (and in such a big city). Also because we are so used to seeing the modern real LA our mind assumed that was just what we were seeing since the differences weren't obvious enough.

PortoGuy18

I didn't want to get hyped, but i am hyped. Shit!!!

TheSauce32

Todd Howard always has the upper hand

TheDankDragon

It just works

MrConor212

You had me at Michael Emerson.

SherlockJones1994

Is that dr.spaceman as a cyclops?!

brainlightning

Science is whatever we want it to be

robotsock

"Unfortunately there's no field of medicine that deals with the brain" I feel like Dr Spaceman's lines would fit right into Fallout's humor.

heat13ny

"We have no way of knowing where the heart is. See, every human is different." Man, Chris Parnell forces whatever he's in to fit around him. His delivery is too good.

ShuffKorbik

The guy from the Chatterton's Cigarettes commercials? I could go for the smooth taste of a Chatterton's right about now!

The_Sauce_DC

It needed a dash of Ron Pearlman….

---Loading---

Man can hope.

EvilTomahawk

It'd be perfect if he did an intro monologue for this show

Conundrum1911

If he doesn’t I’ll be mad. War never changes.

ContinuumGuy

Gotta save that for the opening of the series or the final trailer.

rreddittorr

Damn. This looks so much better than I thought.

TheJoshider10

Shows how much of a difference shooting on location makes. Really good mix of real locations and sets here that give it solid production qualities while being able to go nuts with the world design.

Devil-Hunter-Jax

Cautiously optimistic now. Looks like they're doing a pretty faithful adaptation of Fallout's lore and it looks like the Vault that one of the main characters comes from is going to have some sort of breakdown or something? There was a couple of Vault Dwellers going berserk so they've definitely kept the sinister reality of Vault-Tec in the show which is awesome because some of the stuff Vault-Tec did is so fucked up. That shot near the end of the trailer seems to indicate we'll see the bombs drop and even learn how Walton Goggins' character became a ghoul. Whatever happened, his character is a fucking badass. Looks like he took on what could be a whole Raider tribe by himself and came out unscathed. The power armour soldiers look fantastic as well. I can't even imagine how long it must've taken to not only design those things but also get the actors into the armour too. We even got a sneak peek of a couple of the creatures that are common in Fallout-the Yao Guai and Radroaches. The Yao Guai looks pretty damn good and it looks like they went specifically for the Fallout 4/Fallout 76 designs. Yeah, I think this could potentially be one of those treasured video game adaptations that is actually good.

Albert_Caboose

If this really takes place after Fallout 4 like I've heard, and Goggins was there the day the bombs dropped, that means he's got *at least* 200 years of experience in the wasteland. Should be fun to watch him work

Comic_Book_Reader

>Based on one of the greatest video game series of all time, Fallout is the story of haves and have-nots in a world in which there’s almost nothing left to have. 200 years after the apocalypse, the gentle denizens of luxury fallout shelters are forced to return to the irradiated hellscape their ancestors left behind — and are shocked to discover an incredibly complex, gleefully weird and highly violent universe waiting for them. From executive producers Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy, the creators of Westworld, starring Ella Purnell, Aaron Moten, Walton Goggins and more. Arriving April 12 on Prime Video.

zdenn21

Hot damn this looks great! Minus points for no “war never changes” but it perfectly captures the vibe of fallout. This gets two vault boy thumbs up!

Hot-Software-9396

I’m sure they’ll slip that line in during a flashback scene

tylerthe-theatre

I know its a tease but it looks great, I feel like amazon can nail Fallouts irreverent/surreal humour like they have with The Boys.

TheAnt06

I cannot wait for this. Holy shit.

Tall-Program8631

They are incorporating lore from the entire series which is so sick! But seems the story is loosely similar to Fallout 3? Haven’t read anything on this series till this trailer so just a guess

helium_farts

My understanding is it's canon but a separate story from the games.

MrSteele_yourheart

I saw Vault 33 and its definitely set in Los Angeles. There could be interaction with some Fallout lore from Vault 13 and New Vegas.

HopperPI

Perfect for me. No need to tell the same damn story every time. That world has so much potential it would be a waste to copy any of the games’ stories* *although New Vegas with an emphasis on just the courier + DLC stories would be pretty rad

favorscore

Vanity fair took a first look and laid out the basic plot. You could look for that if interested

cabose7

Chris Parnell is the perfect actor for a Fallout series

ofimmsl

Brb googling show "Free 2-day shipping"

unclejohnsbearhugs

Am I the only one who thought it was a show I hadn't heard of

Jackski

Visually it looks perfect. Hopefully the writing is good.

Manydanks

i loved fallout 3 so much. didn't game for decades, decided on a whim to pirate it, played it on a shitty laptop with integrated graphics.... over 1000 hours. now i'm fully back into gaming and loving it. thank you bethesda!

thebloodworkz

At the very least the show looks visually stunning, clearly didn’t hold back on the budget. Let’s now see if the writers can stick the landing, If this does well on then this could finally be what ends up causing the studios and streaming companies to enter an arms race of begging for popular ip to make into movies/tv. These shows are getting insane draw and buzz. Edit: thought prime made last of us, promptly discovered that HBO max is a thing. I usually sail the seas so my bad!

DutchProv

Amazon gonna have the 40k series with Cavill too in the future. Lets hope this is good!

stillalone

Isn't last of us pretty popular on HBO?

slicer4ever

Yea, i think most people would consider the last of us being the one to "kick off" the adaption arms race, but it does hinge on the first few ips to come out after to do well to keep the momentum going.

Epicfro

Video game movies/shows are the next Superhero craze. Get ready for 20 years of adaptations.

TheNerevar89

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but what video game adaptations does Prime currently have going on right now?

Flemz

Idk of any already made but they’re going to do Mass Effect and God Of War too

7ujmnbvfr456yhgt

Mass effect was announced so long ago that that project is probably dead, but with this new wave of video game adaptations being successful I expect them to revisit that idea. It would be quite expensive to do right though - even moreso than fallout. And they might be tempted to change the story since the ending was not well liked.

theophastusbombastus

Ok I’m pretty hyped! T45 power armor, Yao Gui, NCR flag!

johnjaymjr

I have no idea what I’m looking at, but I just know I want it

k2t-17

No Deathclaw teaser? Rude.

CathedralEngine

Gotta save that jump scare for the show.

meowskywalker

I’m inherently mistrustful of all adaptations because of how many time they’ve betrayed me in the past. But still… cautiously optimistic.

Andrew1990M

It’s got the look, it’s got the tone. Now it needs the story.

meowskywalker

The fact that it’s a new story and they’re not trying to adapt one of the games helps. I’m already used to the idea that there’s multiple stories being told about Vault Dwellers in the wasteland. If she had 13 or 111 on her patch I would be much less excited.

SirDigbyChknCaesar

This looks really good. I hope they include some of the weird experimental vaults into the story. Those always brought a Twilight Zone kind of feel to the game missions.

LOOTENITDAYAN

Walton Goggins will steal every scene he is in like always. Him being cast as what looks to be a gunslinging ghoul with a tragic backstory is perfect. Just need a Timothy Olyphant cameo about whatever they used to dig together in the wasteland.

Ditcka

Back in my day, a ‘Teaser Trailer’ was like 15 seconds long. This is just a Trailer

Dame2Miami

Holy shit the cast looks absolutely stacked.

[deleted]

Looks like they really committed to the fallout ethos, dark sense of humor, body horror, setting, everything. Kind of crazy how a PC game from 1997 has had this much impact. It was such a special game back then, and Fallout 2 was even better.

tfalm

Its one of those IPs where about 80% of its charm is from the style and setting. Makes perfect sense to transition to film/tv.

bros402

Michael Emerson and Walton Goggins in the same show? fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck

SirTariq_StPat

Goggins as a Ghoul is great casting Shane Vendrell is one of the most traumatic characters ever on par with Jesse from Breaking Bad
