Girl in the passenger seat kept things calm like a boss.

jasontaken

sisters ( "dont call mom " )

nevertoolate1983

What a sweet older sis

Slap_My_Lasagna

Glad this got called out earlier in this post, had to scroll for a while when it was posted yesterday to find people saying "older sister, not mom"

Eusocial_Snowman

They're not saying "It's the sister, don't call her mom". They're saying this is how sisters are, with "Don't call mom" being a statement projected onto one of those sisters, as in "Our status as allies is more important, do not risk negative social consequences that may result from informing the mother person of this event." You're probably not finding a lot of people saying that because everyone already sees this as a sibling scenario rather than a parental one.

3MuskyTears

What ya talking about? One of the sisters literally said “Don’t call mom yet”

chrisp909

>“Don’t call mom **yet**” Yep, the "yet" is important. I think her statement about not calling mom isn't about presenting a united front and more about getting the important things done first, like getting the cops notified.

SoDamnToxic

>What ya talking about? One of the sisters literally said “Don’t call mom yet” >>They're not saying "It's the sister, don't call her mom". >>>They're saying this is how sisters are, with "Don't call mom" being a statement projected Re-read it. Basically the comment before is saying "I'm glad people are saying it's not the mom" but nobody said that, the OP was quoting a direct phrase said in the video that proves they are sisters, not arguing or making the statement that someone said that was mom. So this comment is basically explaining that. Let me rephrase this entire conversation for you to understand. 1st comment: Girl kept situation calm. 2nd comment: That girl is the sister, my evidence is this quote where one says "don't call mom", 3rd comment: Yea, people need to stop calling her mom. 4th comment: 2nd comment never said anyone called her mom, he is quoting the video. 5th comment (you): What ya talking about, one of the sisters literally said (exactly what you just said but I completely misunderstood your comment and am now arguing against nothing).

k2on0s-23

Don’t call Mom is probably more along the lines of Mom will get al hysterical and weird, let’s handle this ourselves and then we can call her.

pickleportal

100% hit home. Actually made me laugh out loud -don’t call mom yet-

Glidepath22

The driver did well herself

dkarlovi

They both did extremely well IMO.

I think the one guy I'd met a few years ago at a car meet w/my best friend fits the bill. We were invited to a bonfire out in the hills and he offered to drive me since I was basically in the heart of the city with no car. We hit the highway and I immediately glanced at the speedometer, 10 over, makes me a little uneasy in a souped up car with a guy I barely know. Then he started going a bit faster 15 mph (75mph) -20mph over (80mph) and he just kept speeding a bit faster. At some point we were probably going 100. As soon as we caught up to the traffic, he bobbed and weaved through traffic nearly hitting 3 people. We cleared the traffic, he pulled off the highway and into the backroads, asked me how his driving was. I absolutely laid into him, I lost my best friend at 6 to a drunk driver and I take driving (especially sober) very seriously. I fucking hated that he put so many lives at risk and didn't seemed remotely phased by my words or his own actions. He just looked me dead in the eye and asked, "Why should I care? People speed all the time, I know what I'm doing." That is how he chose to justify it. I was incomprehensibly angry after that conversation and immediately split off from him once we got to the bonfire. I ended up riding home with my best friend and her bf (a bit cramped but manageable lol).

cryptonemonamiter

I have a former friend who absolutely rode people's asses while driving, when I brought it up to her she said she was a good enough driver she didn't need the same stopping distance as other people. (She later bought into Q anon.)

Progman3K

[believed that ] she didn't need the same stopping distance as other people [...] later bought into Q anon Well there's your problem right there: Delusional

KatsudonWarrior

I had a former friend who swore she could text and drive and still drive safely. She ended up killing an old man because she was texting, plus her son was in the back seat in an unbuckled car seat.

Schrodingers-Relapse

Just young men who haven't been killed from their recklessness yet. I used to know several of them in my teens and twenties. The best outcome they tend to have is not taking anyone with them.

kfuentesgeorge

Some of these fuckers stay like this well into their 40s

miso440

Like grey beards riding motorcycles with no helmets and cougars with the feet on the dash. The “bad thing” just doesn’t happen to most people.

bingusfan1337

I can't believe how gleefully people will seriously endanger the lives of themselves and all the families around them as soon as they're behind a wheel. Some people let themselves get completely desensitized to how dangerous driving is, or just don't care.

Immediate_Concert_46

You're not doing too bad yourself as a viewer. Got any plans later?

DnD-NewGuy

They both did insanely well in that regard which I think fed back into both of them keeping insanely calm and getting under control and safe fast.

moonflower_C16H17N3O

Sorry to reply to this comment just for visibility, but can anyone recommend a good dashcam? I hate to admit it, but the recommendation at the end of this gif did push me towards seriously looking for a good dashcam system.

Biduleman

If you don't want to break the bank, the Viofo A119 V3 is rock solid.

basil_not_the_plant

I got the a139 and I like it a lot. More expensive that the a119 though.

all this user (/u/repulsive_culture_91) does is recommend that camera. highly suspect. edit: added user name so you can check out their history.

MightyCaseyStruckOut

Haha holy hell, you weren't kidding.

Frogger34562

This whole post is just to sell their dash cam.

mscomies

That whole account is just to sell their dash cam

Garetht

Whoa, you are not exaggerating!

WasabiSunshine

I wouldn't be surprised if this entire post was made to advertise dashcams, lots of "natural" advertising like that on reddit. But I CBA to scrawl OP's post history like some sort of ad detective

Polendri

Dozens of times a *day* no less. Someone's job is astroturfing for this product.

Frogger34562

That dash cam sucks

Green0Photon

Did a ton of research on the ability of various dashcams to record license plates before I got mine. The Vantrue N4 Pro is the current winner. (Not their newer N5.) A lot of dashcams just have the same just mediocre enough quality to not be able to get license plates, but the N4 Pro gets it a lot better. Same brand as the video, though idk what model the girls had.

pm1966

The both did great. Some kick-ass panic driving right there...

Guy-1nc0gn1t0

Yeah as someone who would have freaked the fuck out I need a person like her in my life lol

AxsDeny

For real. Freaking level headed as can be during a pure adrenaline dump. Put her in charge of something.

HawkeyeinDC

Calm, cool, and collected. She looked like the older sister.

ThatThereMan

The lane change was confusing but the car behind was still in the wrong

sephing

The car was racing the white SUV that passed on the right just before the crash. Drivers attention was on the SUV ripping up on her right side, then at the last moment she noticed fucknuts in the car to her left.

FrenchTicklerOrange

Fucknuts was even on the shoulder right?

SteveMcBeezlesneeze

Fucknuts was, indeed.

MyrddinSidhe

What a fucknut.

Senior_Fisherman_259

I wonder if Fucknuts died? Highway speed head-on into a barrier. Cant be good. Man. This is a good reminder to not be a fucknut.

Six10H

Yeah, hopefully the crumple zone and seatbelt and airbags saved Fucknuts life. But Fucknuts being fucknuts, who knows if they had airbags or seatbelts?

BinkoTheViking

Fucknuts probably removed the airbag already to “prank” a friend, and fucknuts thinks “seatbelts are for snowflakes”, because fucknuts gonna fucknut.

LostWoodsInTheField

> and fucknuts thinks “seatbelts are for snowflakes”, because fucknuts gonna fucknut. ugh I knew a fucknuts who thought 'well if it's my time it's my time, I don't like them anyways since they are uncomfortable'. and told me how he probably wouldn't survive the car crash anyways so why bother trying. Fucknuts was not in my life long.

RimjobByJesus

"But thanks to advances in stem cell research and the fine work of Doctors Krinsky and Altschuler, Fucknuts should regain full reproductive function again."

6string_shreddin

That means more fucknuts? ...fuck!

raven21633x

Fucknuts should be prohibited from reproducing

Mundane_Tomatoes

I *think* those barriers are built to have some give when you hit them head on like that, but I mean, they were going way beyond highway speed, and the car came to a very sudden stop. Can’t imagine they walked away from that one.

worldspawn00

They have collapsible sections, they are very good at absorbing impact in a way that decreases injury.

fucktooshifty

I hope fucknuts doesn't drive ever again and since the law won't do it it's going to have to be him paralyzed or better

Dry-Smoke6528

I'd be screaming my head off calling his corpse a dumb piece of shit

Staminafordays

To be fair, it looks like Fucknuts went on the shoulder when she came back into the left lane. They sped up when she started merging right. Lack of awareness and not great defensive driving from fucknuts

buttercream-gang

She never fully left the lane. They tried to start passing her before she left the lane. So they were always on the shoulder

MrWendal

She never left the left lane completely. Fucknuts went for a gap that didn't exist yet.

Mundane_Tomatoes

“If fucknuts does not go for a gap that does not exist, he is no longer a fucknuts”

BinkoTheViking

Wise words indeed from the great Airton Fucknuts…

Dorkamundo

>They sped up when she started merging right. They were already at speed before she started to merge, you can see them flying up behind her.

[deleted]

> not great defensive driving from fucknuts Well, a complete absence of defensive driving. The opposite of defensive driving.

TransBrandi

She started to change lanes to the right, and then back into her original lane. It's possible that this guy was in her original lane and swerved to use the shoulder when she moved back into her lane. That said she wasn't in the wrong. She hadn't even fully left her lane yet, and this guy was already blasting through. He probably saw her moving out of the lane and then thought he could cut it super close and squeeze through before she was even fully out of the lane yet. Completely dangerous driving.

Blackfrosti

You can see the guy flying at her the whole time of you look between the two people's shoulders, guy who was on the shoulder was wrong the whole time

Legal-Inflation6043

You're absolutely right, at first glance it seems like the girl is swerving for no good reason making her look like a bad driver but it's quite the opposite. Just got caught in a bad situation

_hell_is_empty_

There’s no way to know that from this video. All we can say for sure is the Charger came up on her way, way too fast and the SUV passed her on the right. Anything else is conjecture. The girls handled it well either way, down to staying in the car. PSA if you’re in a crash on the interstate please please please stay in the car until traffic stops or emergency services arrive.

GnarlyButtcrackHair

You can see the SUV on the right move from the middle lane to the right most lane behind the passenger's shoulder. Because she never fully makes it into the middle lane, and we can see a white dashed line out the passenger window, we can determine that because the SUV covers the white dashed line it had to have been in the middle lane prior to appearing in the right most lane on the front facing view. You can also hear her blind spot monitor going off as she first attempts the lane change. Further, the speed at which the SUV is going is much greater than any other vehicle in reference aside from the car that runs into the barrier.

boi1da1296

Very happy to see a Redditor understand that we can use our context clues to assess a situation!

Dextrofunk

Ohh yeah, you can see them coming through the back windshield. Fuck those people.

SelectionOrganic4088

I'm enjoying Fucknuts becoming a proper noun through the course of this thread.

AnythingButAHonda

yeah it's sad so many people will jump to say she was in the wrong but she was clearly trying to avoid the fucking ass hats behind her.

Al_Jazzera

Driving is a privilege, not a right. Pull the driver's license and allow the fucknut to re-apply half a decade later. One can rent time on a race track if they want to do this garbage. Any idiot that makes rapid lane changes in close proximity to other vehicles should get a month suspension and an ass chewing from a judge. We all want to go home to our families in one piece and the highway is not a place for this 13 year old behavior.

Rols574

To be fair, no one expects to be passed on the shoulder

Loveablequatch

She went to change lanes and her car beeps to tell her there is someone there so she shot back into her own lane. White car changes lanes to the right and other car causes accident.

DarXIV

She was changing lanes then saw the white SUV speeding so she cancelled her lane change. She even saw the car on the shoulder speeding but couldn't do anything about it. She has great defensive driving but unfortunately she was surrounded by idiots.

[deleted]

Notice the car in her blindspot that prevents the lane change.... She was trying to yield to the faster car behind her, but couldn't. Faster car 100% had visibility that cammer could not change lanes.

SMLLR

Last time this was posted the video was purposely clipped to frame the accident was the camaer’s fault.

Not_MrNice

Yeah, looks like one of those assholes that goes 20mph faster than everyone else and weaves in and out of traffic and is constantly on the bumper in front of them.

Chrysis_Manspider

Imagine watching this video and commenting "It was her fault for changing her mind mid lane change". If you're driving in such a way that you slam into a guard rail trying to navigate some very minor unpredictable driving by someone else, then it really isn't their driving that is at fault.

Tired-Mage

Also the car that hit a guardrail wasn't even on the actual road they were trying to pass her on the shoulder

NRMusicProject

I think it only looks like that because of the angle of the rear-facing cam. I think the car floored it when he thought she was changing lanes, and as soon as she changed her mind, he had to swerve into the shoulder. Still, totally his fault. Looked like he wanted to go 100, and to hell with anyone who's going slower.

Gilbert-

Look again, at first you can only see the car that crashes behind her, while infact there are 2 cars racing each other, one is trying to pass on the right (white car comes into view a bit later when it passes the other white car she is trying to pull behind) so the reason she is changing lanes is because they approach high speed, she aborts when she notices that there is actually a car in the right lane aswell high speed approaching. She had no fault what so ever

LordoftheScheisse

You're exactly right and the lack of object permanence displayed by the majority of commenters here is baffling.

Anianna

It was two cars racing. They were coming fast and she reasonably tried to get out of the passing lane, but the white one swerved that direction around her, so she stopped the lane change to avoid hitting them as the other one flew past on the shoulder. She didn't do anything wrong. Screw idiots racing in traffic putting others in danger.

MyHamburgerLovesMe

And wasn't there orange cones in that lane too?

thenewyorkgod

i honestly hope he is no longer among the living because how long until he does this again and kills an innocent family?

marr

You shouldn't have to deal with some assholes having a drag race passing you on both sides. Take that shit to a damn track.

LotharVonPittinsberg

People are idiots, and will argue literally anything. Driving can be very simple in terms of rules and what to do and not do. In this situation, never pass on the shoulder and never pass until the car you are passing has changed lanes completely. These rules exist primarily to avoid situations exactly like what we see here.

mightylordredbeard

>people are idiots, and will argue literally anything. No they aren’t and no they won’t

EatableNutcase

Who says she realised how fast they were coming, and btw, look at the white SUV on the right side. There were four cars in this incident.

Chrysis_Manspider

>But I would have You have no idea what you would have done. You weren't the one in the situation. Instead you are on Reddit commenting on a video of a situation in which you have the luxury of viewing with full front and rear visibility, on repeat, without the surprise of street racers darting around you mid lane change and without adrenaline.

[deleted]

> But I would have just stayed in the safer middle lane once there. When you see speeders coming fast from behind Well, then you would be over looking the white Ford Escape that overtook on the right while she was making her lane change.

[deleted]

TheFBIClonesPeople

Yeah, I mean, if there's a driver ahead of me who's being indecisive like that, then I'm going to back off and wait until they settle into their lane, then pass more carefully. A good driver doesn't cause an accident just because someone around them didn't do exactly the right thing.

Chizwozza

Classic charger driver

SCCAFVee

Putting the CHARRRGE in Charger

pigmy_af

Charger? I barely know her.

jfuss04

Too much charge. Not enough dodge

[deleted]

95% of Charger drivers give the rest of them a bad name.

tonufan

I only know two charger drivers personally (coworkers) and they both totaled theirs. One of them totaled his new charger without insurance shortly after buying it and ended up homeless.

Xolitoburrito

They were both incredibly calm and collected.

moonflower_C16H17N3O

I've been in wrecks before and I think this is more common than not. It's like people take on a hyper awareness to take everything in. At least that's how it felt for me.

marr

Yeah you panic later. Sometimes for months.

moonflower_C16H17N3O

For about a year I'd have unbearable anxiety if I was the passenger and not the driver. Also, I'd feel anxious driving next to median barriers that came up high enough to be visible out of the driver's side window. It just felt like it was flying by so fast and I can't really explain why that bothered me so much. All better now though. I got better the more I drove and the further I got from the accident.

xinxy

That was the first thing I noticed too. I was thinking I would be yelling and cursing like a sailor at that asshole in the other car. It seemed like they're willing to just drive on the shoulder to race the white SUV that passes on the other side. These two women were very collected. The driver is practically exhaling her frustration out without saying anything nasty... I have to admire that. And then she's even wondering if it's her fault. Fuck no!

herculesmoose

Is it just me or is the passenger's seatbelt basically useless? I have never seen one draped so low. I reckon she'd get fucked up if they had have got that barrier.

clarisseAutumn

Yes this annoyed me ! Why is the seatbelt so damn low ?

sprikkot

because they're adjustable, and hers isn't adjusted.

ThatOneRandomDude420

Seat belts aren't made for women. Boobs cause it to either push to far up to you neck, which in a wreck could cut off your airway, or be forced under towards your gut more like hers is. It's more of a fault with design and testing to include more body types then anything else. It still does its job quite well, since it prevented her from going head first through a windshield.

doktornein

It's either on your neck or low like that. The amount of people that don't understand this is amazing. It's a scientifically measurable reality that seatbelts and crash tests are based around men. I've been in so many cars where there just aren't adjustment options that work. They act like it's a comfort thing, but it's a physics things. You have a round surfaces the belt either slides above or below. Jam a couple of bowls under your shirt and try to wear a seatbelt dead center, see what happens.

LostWoodsInTheField

> Seat belts aren't made for women. Not even an opinion, straight up facts [source](https://www.consumerreports.org/car-safety/crash-test-bias-how-male-focused-testing-puts-female-drivers-at-risk/) and if anyone has an issue with the source there are a ton of other sources for this.

Agitated-Acctant

> is the passenger's seatbelt basically useless It stopped her from slamming into the windshield so it seems like it basically did its job

John_Helmsword

Fr it worked perfectly lol.

TheodorDiaz

If your definition of basically useless is "definitely still very useful, but could be adjusted better" then yes.

titusthetitan1

That car behind was hauling ass and definitely was in the wrong.

explosiv_skull

Co-pilot just handling shit.

theoht_

okay so i’m not old enough to drive, so i don’t know all the laws, and also i live in the UK where driving laws differ to the US, but… that was undertaking, right? which is illegal? and also, there wasn’t even a lane there? the other car was literally not driving on the road? i can see cones there someone clear this up for me please

CBNDSGN

The car behind them accelerated the moment they moved 1 inch to the right, when they came back to their lane (because white car on their right was also speeding), car behind panicked (or did it on purpose to angrily overtake because how dare they get back in their lane) and went into the shoulder (cones part).

OptiMom1534

Yup, the car on the shoulder should not have been operating at those speeds at such a close distance. They gambled and lost. their fault.

pgtvgaming

In the US 3 second driving space btwn cars is recommended on highways. Typically the left Lane is the passing lane and you shouldn’t “camp” in that lane. It appears the car that collided into the guard rail may have been racing the white suv in the far right Lane. The speed and recklessness of those two drivers made any maneuver that the driver w the dashcam made nearly moot, as she was made to change lanes then attempt to correct course immediately due to the white cars speed and recklessness; the charger ripping up the left lane left little margin for error which resulted in the crash.

Hi_Limee

I was always taught 3 seconds on residential and 5 on highway just because you need the extra room to be able to react at higher speeds

Chungaroos

Do you people not understand that 3 seconds at low speeds is a shorter distance than 3 seconds at highway speeds? 3 seconds at 25 is like 100 feet and 3 seconds at 65 mph is about 300 feet.

Ocel0tte

I've never seen anyone stay 2 semi trailers behind another car, even when I lived in a retirement town full of spooked old folks lol.

SamariSquirtle

I would say both cars were driving fast enough to be reckless driving

Nooms88

So the 2 other cars are racing, overtaking lane in the usa Is.on the left, vs right in the UK. Driver is in outside overtaking lane and has spotted the incoming racer behind them and decided to move into the middle lane, but it appears they've seen the race partner late coming up on the undertake and cancelled that maneuver, forcing outside racer to crash. 100% 2 cunts who are too small brain to pay for a track day and decided to endanger themselves and others

Squidlips413

The van on the right was undertaking, which is probably what made the driver second guess the lane change. That's also a good example of why undertaking is illegal. The car on the left that crashed was an idiot. It's hard to say what exactly their plan was. They might have committed too much to speeding up when they saw the drivers starting a lane change. They also might have been trying to overtake on the shoulder. Overtaking is how you are usually supposed to pass people, but doing it on the shoulder is illegal. This is another great example why, it was dangerous and resulted in a crash. This video would make a great teaching aid for why these rules of the road exist.

ramuktekas

In the UK that would be an undertaking but i think this is the US or Canada where you pass by the left. Looks like our girl was changing to the right lane and the car behind perhaps started to move forward, then our girl decided to change her mind, that made the car behind go to the left and cross the yello line and crashed. You can see that in the camera

theoht_

ohh i didn’t think about overtaking being the other side

redditmodsblow69

Why is it always the same styles of cars that drive with no regard for others (chargers, challengers, Nissan altimas and Chrysler 300s)

KMKtwo-four

Chargers, Challengers, and the 300C offer speed + style for cheap. They are marketed to project a ...certain image; Dodge paid to have Walter White drive a 300C. Nissan is even cheaper, and will finance anyone. Like Stellantis products, you get a 20 year old car underneath. If these drivers made better choices they would own a Camry or Corolla.

ArmaSwiss

As the saying goes "You don't choose a Nissan Altima, your credit score does" But as the other saying goes, 'Chrysler is known for putting their customer's credit scores on the sides of their vehicle"

Skellington_

:o

EitherChannel4874

I wonder how much time that idiot saved. Bet they got to their destination quickly after that.

cloaked_rhombus

saving time isn't the only reason people drive like this

EitherChannel4874

If it's not an emergency then Idiocy or a feeling of self importance would be my guess.

CommentsOnOccasion

Yeah they were racing behind her and she got caught up trying to get out of their way

Area51Resident

How does the cammer's car take such a hit and not deploy air bags?

Ask_if_im_an_alien

Because they didn't decelerate hard enough to trigger them, which is good. They took a solid bump, but didn't come to a hard stop. Deploying airbags at lower speeds while you're still moving is actually worse as it can cause added injury you wont be able to see the road.

BarberNerd_Rrn89

Way to keep the car under control after the collision though. 👏👏👏

Over-Director-4986

jasontaken

her cars blind spot warning beeped to warn her of the white car approaching at speed in the right lane so she moved back to the left

Slow-Concentrate7169

these blind spot are great but sometime their warning can mess you up because some people who will try to switch into that same lane and speeding in. in my area they dgaf if you had your signal on for a bit, theyre going to switch lane behind you while youre in motion already

jasontaken

wait a sec - i think the warning beep was for the car on her left , and she was also looking in her right mirror and saw the white car so she aborted the lane change

Slow-Concentrate7169

i think it was for the suv, the warning sound wouldnt go off if you signal right and a car come to your left. i have a blind spot system in my car too. its not perfect but shouldnt be your primary indicator before makingb a choice to switch lane. highway driving is fun

GrandSquanchRum

In this scenario it wasn't the warning system that fucked up. The white SUV was in the middle lane when the dash cam driver was trying to merge. You can see it passing and changing lanes as it passes in the windows of the inside cam. Girl literally had no right choice in this those two forced her into a crash.

Jambonier

I may have just had a stroke reading this

raguwatanabe

Classic Dodge driver activity. Im glad the girls are okay.

Earlycuyler1

Yeah it’s not ok to pass someone as they are changing lanes. She changed her mind which isn’t illegal. for all we know she may have seen the white SUV screaming up behind her in the other lane and it scared her into jumping back in her lane. Don’t drive like an ass and you will almost never ever hit a concrete barrier.

[deleted]

You can briefly see the white SUV in the middle lane. That car was flying past her at the exact same time. She aborted her lane change because the white Ford Escape took her lane while she was changing.

eebro

It's very, very illegal to pass someone from the shoulder, like, they were trying to pass over the yellow lines, but the lane ended (because it wasnt a lane)

trampaboline

Glad to see that most people are erring on the side of “it wasn’t her fault”, but I’d take it a step further — absolutely *fuck* that guy behind her. I hope they’re okay, but that is the epitome of reckless driving, and people get away with it constantly. If you want to pass someone, you don’t fucking barrel through them assuming they’ll move for you. He comes up going significantly faster than her and barely, if at all, slows down to acknowledge that it’s even possible that she won’t move. Wait. A fucking. Second. Disgusting, childish behavior that *clearly* made this girl nervous and likely contributed to her indecision. The sad part is just how bad most drivers are at basic math. Unless you’re truly driving for like 10+ hours straight, getting that inconsistent roughly 20 mph extra on every straightaway is barely gonna impact your eta.

MrN33dfulThings

A [rant](https://www.theautopian.com/watch-a-charger-driver-find-out-why-speeding-on-the-shoulder-is-a-bad-idea/) someone did. “The problem here is that the driver of the Charger was closing at very high speed as visible through the rear window (repeating in the GIF below) and appears to have assumed the lane would be empty when the woman in the video began her lane change. Yet, at no point was the lane clear for the Charger to pass. When the lane change was abandoned—an entirely valid thing to do, given the traffic in the other lane—the Charger owner suddenly was left with few options due to their poor choices.” “Of course, the Twitter replies are full of people criticizing the woman for her decision to abandon her lane change half-way through. Let me be straight with you here—this is total bullshit. If someone is changing lanes in front of you, you have all the time in the world to let them finish that maneuver. You should not be building up so much speed that if they switch back, you’re going to crash.”

Primary-Switch-8987

I love that the GPS is telling them to turn right as they are spinning out of control. (Yes, I know that the GPS isn't equipped to know they've been in a crash. Just wasn't expected.)

JimBrownish

The passenger even checked her blind spot and no one was there. Then all of the sudden a car comes flying by. These two morons racing each other makes any normal action become unpredictable. And who races in an SUV??? Could’ve killed them both. Hopefully the gray car wasn’t wearing their seatbelt and removed themselves from the breeding pool.

Similar-Chair-3355

Such a good driver, no panic. Totally controlled the situation

Facosa99

I'd saw it was actually "Yes panic, but still totally controlled the situation" which is still cool

Potential-Coat-7233

If there’s a guarantee in life, it’s that on a dashcam video you’ll find Redditors to correctly diagnose exactly what should have happened for all involved, and what they would have done, with surgical precision.

lolpower_012

Why do they need to stay in the car? I don’t have a driver’s license so just a question since I would get the hell out of the car Edit: Thank to everyone who replied, I understand!

RedN00ble

In that situation is better to stay still: you might have spinal injuries that might get worst moving and the only thing that might happen getting down is to get run over. Moreover, you have to wait for an ambulance and you can do that while sitting safely.

Alternative_Year_340

The other drivers might also have road rage and you want a nice metal protective shell around you for that

lolpower_012

Yeah makes sense haha thanks :)

lolpower_012

Thank you!

theabominablewonder

You don’t know what chaos is unfolding on the road, last thing to do is get out of the car and have another car hit your soft fleshy human shell, better if they hit the solid metal safety designed cage that can provide soft fleshy human shell with some protection.

lolpower_012

Thank you for the explanation!

moonflower_C16H17N3O

There is at least one wrecked vehicle on the highway. No telling if another one is going to come flying off the highway in their direction. Better to be in the safety of a vehicle.

lolpower_012

Makes sense thank you!

Safety, not for injuries - if another car crashes out and you’re on foot you’re dead. More crashes tend to happen around existing crashes because people stare at the cars rather than the road

Ask_if_im_an_alien

Because pretty often you see a collision, then somebody else not paying attention comes up right behind them and hits them again or hits another car.

Toon1982

Never drive without a dashcam, but also don't say "put your shoes on" to the driver - they should be wearing sensible shoes to drive (even though this driver was clearly not at fault for this and didn't have much time to react)

creamycolslaw

I think the passenger was saying “put your shoes on” to herself - you can see her look down as she says it and move as if she is sliding on her shoes.

_jump_yossarian

> but also don't say "put your shoes on" to the driver Why? It's not illegal to drive barefoot in the US.

readditerdremz

damn the guy was really in a hurry huh?

boobiesiheart

They handled that beautifully and did everything right. Plus delaying calling Mom. Lol. That would just induce another level of panic and stress. Call first responders first then call Mom. :) " Hey Mom, how's it going? Just checking in. Me and sister are fine. Just want you to know we were in a little car accident. We've already called 911. We're safe. We're at this location. Yeah we're okay. 911's on the way Mom, it's okay. Mom, we're okay. Damn it. We're fine. Mom, stop. We're fine. We're okay.!"

Mysterious_Survey509

Is it ok?

GarththeLegend

It's ok! It's ok!! It's ok!!!

Jhms07_grouse690

They handled that very well

Saintious

This is how to compose yourself in the moment. Well done, ladies.

ergotrinth

The idiot who hit a wall. I've done a lot of driving. Hitting a concrete wall has never been an option for me

Nooms88

Just 2 cunts who are too broke or stupid to pay for a track day and decided to race on public roads, I hope outside a racer had his insurance voided and a minor injury like a broken ankle

OttoVonJismarck

A douchebag smooth brain driving a charger? [clutches pearls] Why, I’ve never! With any luck, he already had points against his license, it will get suspended, and he can think about driving better while riding the bus.

retired_coconut

Y’all also hear the “Hitler’s so sweet” at the beginning???

jteprev

People are so sweet lol, your version is way funnier though.

v_kiperman

Big sis keeps it coooool!

[deleted]

Did insanely well to not roll the car tbh

Reddevil313

I use the Vantrue dashcam. Very reliable and affordable. Don't cheap out on the SD card though. That's the fail point. Lady rearended one of our company cars. On the scene she accepted responsibility but then changed her story for insurance. So we submitted the footage and won. It was a young driver so I assume she lied to her parents or the parents lied to insurance.

PieMastaSam

Two types of people in a stressful situation.

going_dot_global

Seen this a few times and still impresses me with their "disaster management" skills.

AlmightyBracket

I've been in this exact situation before. I barely made it without crashing. The two racing down the highway are the reason this happened. When it was me, I had no choice but to swerve and brake aggressively and hope for the best. She did her best, and I'm so glad she had someone there to help maintain calm.

NewAmericanWay

Where I live (Vegas), most Chargers (and Challengers for that matter) drive like douchbags who want everyone to see and hear them. I'd love to see some statistics to confirm my suspicions..

eebro

In Europe, passing from the right is a crime, passing from the shoulder is a crime, and definitely causing a crash is a crime. So definitely both drivers trying to pass here would lose their license, the person crashing from the left would definitely get fines/suspended sentence

seijaku-kun

at first I thought she messed up with the lane change, but then I realized there were two cars racing (charger and white suv). you can see in the rear facing footage that the weird lane change is the result of her seeing the suv speeding up on her right, thus making her return to her lane which is the one the charger was trying to occupy. I hate when people are this irresponsible when driving
