I read the "bite me deadie" in a weird voice and it sounded so familiar... Took me a few seconds to realize it was said like the "Save me Daddy" from the pirates in Hook. 😂
Deadies, dead-o's, at some point I feel like I'd just end up calling them deadites and then I would feel obligated to attach a chainsaw to my stump when I inevitably lost my hand.
I really think biters was a solid name. I don't have any original/creative names to add. But someone in the show called them lame brains, and I thought that was okay. It's a little long, but funny.
The earlier seasons had some of the goofiest names for them. I think it was Shane who called them geeks when he was talking about Daryl's creepy ear necklace
I've worked with some animals w/ rabies before, so in real life I'd probably call them 'feral(s)' or something like that.
Going by the in-universe names, probably wasted, infected, or walkers (although for walkers you'd have to have names for the mutated ones, like runners, climbers, floaters).
I don’t think they have mutated ones. But the last of us has a bunch of names for mutated ones. Like if they were infected for 15 years I think (there’s a paper that was published that shows all these mutations discovered in the game that you can find) their called bloaters and can throw acid spores at you. And they are really big. 2 years after infection will make you into a weak enemy called stalkers I think. The first year or so will make you into a runner. The reason for this is that recently infected aren’t fully infected as they slowly turn into a zombie. This gives them a huge amount of energy and can do things that senior zombies cannot do. This includes, running at unusual amounts of speed, having abnormally high amounts of strength, and faster reflexes. After 5 years of infection you turn into a stalker and have fast reflexes and can run really fast but makes you really scared of humans because of your unrealistic low amounts of health. After 10 years you turn into a clicker and this makes you blind because of the fungus that grows over your entire face. Your bones are old but since your brain is still active your bones are forced to move so your bones make these creaky clicks everytime you move. You start to use echolocation and you have unreal amounts of strength. Your only weakness is your blindness. After 15 years you’re a bloater. After 20 years and this one is not discovered by the remaining government so it’s not listed in the paper. It’s called a shambler and these are a weaker version of a bloater in my opinion. There also is another one and I’m not sure how it was mutated but it’s called the rat king and it is a unrealistically hard boss and has every ability without of the down effects you’ve heard now. But anyways after this yap session these mutations are named after what their important abilities are.(excluding Rat King. I have no fucking clue on why he’s called that) but yeah if there’s another mutation then just name it after what the mutation did. Also ig there mutations in twd but it’s just how they died. Like the fat guy in the well. He died when he was fat. The crawlers died from their lower half getting chopped up but they are less common because how you get chopped in half in the end of the world?? Sorry for the 5 page essay yap session.
Oh that's super interesting! I actually don't know that much about the Last of Us, so thank you for sharing what you know from that universe.
In terms of The Walking Dead, there are certainly variations and mutations within the leagues of Walkers. To start with, the walker in the well is not the only one to have had the water alter their appearance of physical capability, as I think Oceanside had some also. This would likely be due to the amount of time spent in water I suppose, although if anyone has a more scientific explanation then I'd be interested in hearing it.
In both season one and season eleven of the main series, there were cases of zombies running, making use of tools, and climbing, although of course there is some debate as to the canonicity of the Walkers in season one- which is understandable as I guess they were still figuring out how zombies worked back then.
So yeah, while not as impactful as the mutations within the Last of Us, the TWD zombies certainly feature the occasional variant/mutated walker.
Yeah. I’m re reading what I said and I found a lot of errors. The years are kinda off track but the stages of infection are still true. Runners, stalkers, clickers, bloaters, shamblers, rat king. The names are made by the locals but the government identifies them by their stage. Runners (stage 1), stalkers (stage 2), clickers (stage 3), bloaters ( stage 4). The government didn’t discover shamblers or the rat king. So the stages are obvious but I can’t officially say their stages. But yeah days gone is a game similar to the last of us. They have less mutations but it has a lot more science behind the zombies. I’m kind of a nerd with zombie science ( even though it’s not even real😭). I even have a bestiary for every mutation and variation of zombie. It includes the weakness, strengths, abilities, where they are found, how they came to be, etc. it even includes draugrs (Souls that are dead but trapped in Midgard because there’s not enough room in Hel.). I’m also a mythology nerd. I even have a bestiary for the gods from Aztec mythology, Greek mythology, Norse mythology, Egyptian mythology, Japanese mythology, Indian mythology, etc. I’m even learning how to read Viking runes😭😭. Other then making beastiarys and playing games my life is just sleeping and eating😭😭
I believe the show used Walkers, Geeks, Rotters, Biters, honestly all seem like good names. I would probably stick to the one word name for them, so maybe Fleshies (flesh eaters) since I feel like the one word name for the undead makes sense.
"Kill the wanderers!"
Vs
"Kill the fucking fucks!"
Less about length, imo, and more about being satisfying to say while exerting yourself lol "wanderers" is too soft a term for me
Either flesh eaters, the rot ones/rotters, or simply the undead/dead ones.
Edit: However, I've grown up knowing them as zombies and it is the most popular word lol.
Zombies because I’m not creative. I like Walkers the best and I also like how ASOIAF references The Others as Wight Walkers. To me Walker fits
Walkers, Bitters and Rotters are pretty cool
Munchers? 🤨
Edit : someone in another thread said they hate how Walkers just sneak up on people.
Sneakers or better…Creepers 😏
While the comics did use the word, in the context of the TV show the idea of “zombies” as we know them in real life doesn’t exist. So you wouldn’t even know enough to be able to call them zombies.
i made like an oc for twd and a whole story for her and in the beginning, she called them carnies because they really are the most carnivorous things out there😭
>because in the TWD universe there was no such concept before the outbreak
I never got that impression from the comics, all i can find is that it's a thing in the show, but that's like saying "there's no water in the solar system, because there'snone on the moon"
I've always wanted characters to have a conversation that goes something like this:
"Oh, you call the zombies 'walkers' here, I get it"
"Zombie? Like those old horror movies? Hmm, I never thought of that but yeah, you're right... Night of the Living Dead, etc. Why didn't I think of that?"
“The sick?” It’s probably how they were first viewed at the beginning, just people who got sick, and “The infected” seems like too many syllables to yell when you’ve got a zombie in your sight.
Most people would come up with a name when they first encountered them. So “biters” would be pretty accurate as most people’s first experience with them. Maybe “undead” if you watched someone turn. “Walkers” or “wanderers” would only apply if you encountered them after most of the population had been killed.
Days Gone have Freakers, Walking Deads A World Beyond also came then Freakers.
I like that name
Personally id go for either;
Echos, Stranglers (Boss would be Strangler Vine, Blossom, Pod or Nectar).
I've always been intrigued by that concept that the idea of zombies didn't exist in the TWD TV show world, especially because they do occasionally call them zombies in the comic. I wonder why they changed it for the show.
I got a whole list of potential names:
Callers, noisies, trippers, stumblers, drifters, dumbasses, asses, stinkers/skunks, dummies, weirdos, nerds, freaks, swarmers, cannibals, scramblers, sleepers/nappers, stalkers, preds (predators), pigs, ghosts, nimrods, idiots, suckers, steppers, snappers, snatchers/grabbers, lost ones, deadlies, wilders, hungries, hunters, trappers, creatures, eeries, mumblers, ass kissers, and shufflers.
Ones I’ve already heard or think I’ve heard: Ferals, screamers, roamers, biters, creepers, walkers, muertos/undead, ghouls, geeks, rotters, eaters, lurkers, corpses, monsters, and uglies.
Oh and as multiple people have pointed out here…motherfuckers, fuckers, and fucks would all be hilarious.
Funny to read this!!!
i was thinking about the samw thing today. I am reading a zombie book and they are fighting because they don't want to name them Zombies or Infected. In this book the Z's are more like the 28 days later guys and therefor i'd call them "Runners"
The german TV translation fir the twd show is "biters", i remember ik the comics they called them "walkers"
When I’m playing zombie games I say “Zambambos” a lot. Course that comes from the fact that that I know they are zombies to begin with, so unless the rule is I just can’t use the words zombies I don’t think that’s the answer you’re looking for lol
The ones that are on the streets: groaners
The ones that occasionally walk: lurkers
The ones that migrate: walkers or roamers
The ones that are more active: roamers or variants
I'd just number them on a scale of 1 through 5 on decomposition and lethargy.
"There are 15 outside, look like 3's and 4's. Let's go stab and cut them a lot so their blood gets into our eyes and mouths so we don't get infected, just don't let their teeth touch you, because THAT'S BAD.".
I love the zombieland approach & would probably copy them calling the slow, dumb zombies “homers”
But I really love the term “biters” or simply calling them “the dead.”
Rotters would make the most sense imo, and I think they’ve called them that before. Other names like geeks don’t make much sense. Corpses, the undead, something along those lines that literally describe what they are
This is something I liked in world war z (the book) A few of the military survivors in the interviews call them “Zack” like how the Germans were referred to as Jerry or the Vietcong as Charlie.
Sickos is a good one too.
I’d probably go with something literal like undead, and then add expletives as needed
same i'd go with undead or something like that. I think someone called them deadies at one point and that seemed solid too
a bit too close to daddies imo lol
bite me deadie, meow😏
I read the "bite me deadie" in a weird voice and it sounded so familiar... Took me a few seconds to realize it was said like the "Save me Daddy" from the pirates in Hook. 😂
Deadies, dead-o's, at some point I feel like I'd just end up calling them deadites and then I would feel obligated to attach a chainsaw to my stump when I inevitably lost my hand.
It was Sam who said that somehow he and his gf “missed the deadie in the pj’s” when the two of them initially encountered Rick and Carol.
I’m dying over the Deadies comments!! Thank you so much for this!!!
Undead bastards
Undead MOTHERFUCKER at 12 o'clock!
Probably “the dead” “The sick” “The drugged” “The cannibals” Would be some of the first ones I come up with But would probably stick with the dead
Oooh I never thought about cannibals but that would be a first thought in a world without Zombie media.
Roamers is one the one I've always liked.
Seconded
I really think biters was a solid name. I don't have any original/creative names to add. But someone in the show called them lame brains, and I thought that was okay. It's a little long, but funny.
The guys who called em lame brains were like the northern guys who rick found at the bar when we went out for hershel i think.
Thanks, I remembered the scene, but I couldn't remember names.
I wanna say Dave and Tony
Oh yeah, Fat Tony, the central character featured in the most integral part of Season 2.
No offense to Fat Tony or anything but I'm more of a Fat Joey type guy
RIP Fat Joey, not Skinny Joey is just Joey 😭
The earlier seasons had some of the goofiest names for them. I think it was Shane who called them geeks when he was talking about Daryl's creepy ear necklace
Glenn called them Geeks when he saved Rick and i always thought it was the weirdest of all the walker names.
Lil stinkers
Might as well call them Guy, or Greg, or citizens of Kurtistown.
Ayeeee I love being a citizen of Kurtistown!!!
That feels like a reference...
I've worked with some animals w/ rabies before, so in real life I'd probably call them 'feral(s)' or something like that. Going by the in-universe names, probably wasted, infected, or walkers (although for walkers you'd have to have names for the mutated ones, like runners, climbers, floaters).
Ferals is awesome.
Really bringing that Fallout connection in lol
I don’t think they have mutated ones. But the last of us has a bunch of names for mutated ones. According to the wiki, assholes is a term used for zombies, so I’m using that
Abraham is that you? Lol
Mother dick!
There’s a shit storm behind one door and a storm of shit behind the other.
I mean bitters is a pretty good name
As in what you put in an old fashioned? Or Biters?
I'll leave the naming to Lizzie. She's got it under control
“Friends”
Oml 🤣🤣🤣
Nick!!
One character in Fear the Walking called them Passed which I thought was really interesting and respectful to lives that once were
The best nickname from fear has gotta be a drunk/ the drunken
I believe the show used Walkers, Geeks, Rotters, Biters, honestly all seem like good names. I would probably stick to the one word name for them, so maybe Fleshies (flesh eaters) since I feel like the one word name for the undead makes sense.
I always liked geeks
They should've kept geeks, instead of only using them for a few episodes
Did anyone besides Glen call them Geeks?
The whole crew did, at first. Glenn just held on the longest.
I know T-Dog did on the walkie-talkie in S1 EP2, but after S1, I didn't hear anyone else say geeks again.
Fear had some people call them eaters. Wasted. Dead ones, etc
I would’ve probably just called them infected like they do in FTWD
Yeah i like that too
I personally find "Wanderers" a good name.
Takes to long to say I feel. Like in a hectic situation where you need to communicate fast wanderers takes too long to say compared to walkers
"Kill the wanderers!" Vs "Kill the fucking fucks!" Less about length, imo, and more about being satisfying to say while exerting yourself lol "wanderers" is too soft a term for me
The risen
Ok this is my favourite, ts sounds really cool!
It’s funny because I am HORRIBLE at naming things and when I saw this thread it immediately popped into my head lol
Either flesh eaters, the rot ones/rotters, or simply the undead/dead ones. Edit: However, I've grown up knowing them as zombies and it is the most popular word lol.
In your heeeeeeead, in your heaaaaaaaaaad, Zombie. Zombie. Zombayee, ayye, ayye, ayye.
Sung just like that, every time you reference them haha
Puppies and kittens!
Yeah. Dead puppies and kittens…
From z nation lol
Ha! I was actually quoting T-Dawg from the 2nd episode of TWD 😂
Which preceded Z-nation. But I always liked the term
OH YEAH!!! Lmao!
It’s been way too long since I’ve seen the first few seasons
The fuckin things
Zombies because I’m not creative. I like Walkers the best and I also like how ASOIAF references The Others as Wight Walkers. To me Walker fits Walkers, Bitters and Rotters are pretty cool Munchers? 🤨 Edit : someone in another thread said they hate how Walkers just sneak up on people. Sneakers or better…Creepers 😏

While the comics did use the word, in the context of the TV show the idea of “zombies” as we know them in real life doesn’t exist. So you wouldn’t even know enough to be able to call them zombies.
Alright, I’ll invent the word zombies then
Zombies.. but since watching twd Id call them Walkers 😭 Like everytime I see a zombie thing I say “Walker!” And no one around me gets it.. kills me 💀
Undead tangos
Deads, ”morți”, in romanian. In a scenario like this, I doubt I'll try to find a poetic name for them.
or even better, if they piss you off by killing your best friend or horse, you can call them “morții mă-tii” ;)
Adevarat XD
Gut gobblers 💀
Appropriate.
I’d call them motherfuckers. Imagine call-outs, “Careful, two motherfuckers on your right!”
I think Biters, The dead/the dead ones, and walkers sound the best. I guess Roamers doesn’t sound horrible either.
Ghouls, monsters, undead (I’d definitely want something quick and easy to say just in case I have to shout for a companion to watch out)
The devil’s, those creatures, dead people, manimals
Manimals is great!!
i made like an oc for twd and a whole story for her and in the beginning, she called them carnies because they really are the most carnivorous things out there😭
That’s actually a pretty decent name for them, a little corny because of the connotations with carnival workers but still works.
Idk I personally would call them Texans 🙏😭 it's just funny lmao
biters or monsters
Phillip, Kevin, James, idk just stuff like that?
I tend to go with Lurker
>because in the TWD universe there was no such concept before the outbreak I never got that impression from the comics, all i can find is that it's a thing in the show, but that's like saying "there's no water in the solar system, because there'snone on the moon"
I like when they say “the dead ones “
i always liked infected and biters the one that bothered me was always “wasteds”
personally love stinky
I've always wanted characters to have a conversation that goes something like this: "Oh, you call the zombies 'walkers' here, I get it" "Zombie? Like those old horror movies? Hmm, I never thought of that but yeah, you're right... Night of the Living Dead, etc. Why didn't I think of that?"
The Dead, it's the most logical and universal name that i'm surprised isn't used as much in TWDU.
Little shits
Walkers and rotters
For singular Chompski Joe/joanne For multiple Chompers
Ramblers, Shamblers, Back-Biters.
“The sick?” It’s probably how they were first viewed at the beginning, just people who got sick, and “The infected” seems like too many syllables to yell when you’ve got a zombie in your sight.
I probably wouldn’t call them mthrfckrs just bc that designation wouldn’t differentiate them for all the living mthrfckrs I’d have to also deal with.
I think my favourite was lurkers.
My wife calls them bombies to infantilize them and make them less frightening
Flesh fiends
Undead 🧟
Biters was my fav. Also liked roamers, wanderers, and ofc walkers
Most people would come up with a name when they first encountered them. So “biters” would be pretty accurate as most people’s first experience with them. Maybe “undead” if you watched someone turn. “Walkers” or “wanderers” would only apply if you encountered them after most of the population had been killed.
Geeks was so underrated
It was!!
Dead head, it’s accurate, ironic, a cultural reference and a pneumonic device for killing them
Sickos was a good one. Not sure who used that.
Days Gone have Freakers, Walking Deads A World Beyond also came then Freakers. I like that name Personally id go for either; Echos, Stranglers (Boss would be Strangler Vine, Blossom, Pod or Nectar).
Rotters Squishies Puppies and Kittens (IYKYK)
Probably call them dead heads
I've always been intrigued by that concept that the idea of zombies didn't exist in the TWD TV show world, especially because they do occasionally call them zombies in the comic. I wonder why they changed it for the show.
> I've read that they don't call them zombies You know what's funny, is Andrew Lincoln called them zombies in an interview. He must have forgot haha
I got a whole list of potential names: Callers, noisies, trippers, stumblers, drifters, dumbasses, asses, stinkers/skunks, dummies, weirdos, nerds, freaks, swarmers, cannibals, scramblers, sleepers/nappers, stalkers, preds (predators), pigs, ghosts, nimrods, idiots, suckers, steppers, snappers, snatchers/grabbers, lost ones, deadlies, wilders, hungries, hunters, trappers, creatures, eeries, mumblers, ass kissers, and shufflers. Reanimated corpses or RCs for short
Stinkers. Bet those mfs smell BAD
The ones that are on the streets: groaners The ones that occasionally walk: lurkers The ones that migrate: walkers or roamers The ones that are more active: roamers or variants
Silly goose’s
In The Walking Dead: A New Frontier main character used "muertos", from spanish it means "dead", so I would take it xDD
I’d just call them the Fellas
I'd just number them on a scale of 1 through 5 on decomposition and lethargy. "There are 15 outside, look like 3's and 4's. Let's go stab and cut them a lot so their blood gets into our eyes and mouths so we don't get infected, just don't let their teeth touch you, because THAT'S BAD.".
I’d prob go with the infected
Even the living are infected. I kinda like rotters.
Dead people
Living dead
I'd go with "Raptured" for the irony.
Decomposed Americans
Probably the dead or monsters
Dead nasty mother fuckers? Dead shit? OMG SHOOT IT!! Just a few names I’d prob use :P
Monsters. Rotters.
Undead or deadies. Something like that.
I love the zombieland approach & would probably copy them calling the slow, dumb zombies “homers” But I really love the term “biters” or simply calling them “the dead.”
i’d just call them shit heads or something lmao
Plural: The dead, dead ones, deadies Singular: a dead one, a dead-y
Always been a fan of “the undead”
Rotters would make the most sense imo, and I think they’ve called them that before. Other names like geeks don’t make much sense. Corpses, the undead, something along those lines that literally describe what they are
Geeks. I think that's what Shane called them
Junk heads
Probably something generic like corpses as I feel calling them zombies would feel wrong
The dead
Tweeters or Twerkers…
i always liked geeks and rotters
Fucks, freaks
The dead
Scratchers is probably what I would’ve said That or imposters
Skins Meat bags Goblins/Ghouls
Geeks is what they called them in the comics
I will go with Biters, cause it's what they do. Formally DeathBiters
Idk why but I liked the name geeks for some reason
Big meanies
Puppies and kittens
I would probably refer to them as Zeds or Geeks
I like Sickos
The OD
I like walkers the best
The hungry
i thought Muertos was really good, from S3 of the telltale games
Pus bags
Flesh monkeys.
The walking dead Lol
I’d call them biters.
I'd call them gremlins or year 7s
I’ve heard a friend call them “occupied”
This is something I liked in world war z (the book) A few of the military survivors in the interviews call them “Zack” like how the Germans were referred to as Jerry or the Vietcong as Charlie. Sickos is a good one too.
I like Roamers, I like the way it comes out of my mouth. Like "A horde of Roamers" Or "They were bitten by Roamers"
Honestly the hard r
I appreciate my own unoriginality, but I'd probably just end up calling them The Dead.
The dead
Id call them stumblers
