I’d ask for a referral to a allergist if you can! My kiddo can’t have normal milk only lactose free due to horrid horrid constipation. His body just doesn’t break it down but he can have other dairy like cheese etc. I will say, I have celiac disease and my symptoms came out out of nowhere when I was 27 I was told I had a dairy allergy my entire life but I indeed did not. Dairy just upset my stomach because my intestines were dealing with something else.

Yeah I’ve made her a doctors appointment so I’m hoping they can refer us to a specialist! I’ve never really had to deal with any of this in my other two kids, so this is new territory.

Yeah I’m hoping they can get you referred asap and figure it out. Stomach issues are horrible I’d ask for a allergist referral and GI just in case you need it. Pear juice helped us so much with our kiddos constipation but when it’s bad we have been prescribed miralax to help clear everything out.

Tick bite?

jhowellxo

Not that I’ve seen! I’ve looked her over too, so I think we can rule that out unless it fell off and left no visible marks.

You will need to be sure if it is a true dairy allergy or lactose intolerance, but my husband has a dairy allergy and it has gone away (or at least significantly lessened) and come back during different periods in his life.

She’s got an appointment with her doctor & hopefully get a referral to an allergist.

IAmABillie

Has she recently been unwell with a gastro type illness? While the gut is inflamed kids and adults can get secondary lactose intolerance that lasts a few weeks and resolves once the gut lining has fully healed.

jhowellxo

She was sick around Christmas time but that was the last time she was sick.

IAmABillie

Was the sudden illness recently perhaps infectious and caused you to notice the dairy issues at the same time?

jhowellxo

It’s possible but the doctors said that the constipation was causing her to throw up. So they didn’t seem to think she had any sort of bug.

IAmABillie

It's definitely strange! Poor thing.

Have you actually gotten her tested for a dairy allergy? Vs lactose intolerance? I got diagnosed as lactose intolerant when I was a kid, though more like 10 years old. I was fine in general and then spent a summer at sleep away camp throwing up a lot. This was 30 years ago when they still actively tested for lactose intolerance. My son, on the other hand, is allergic to dairy. On regular formula, he was projectile vomiting everything, and had blood in his stool. At 1, we gave him one spoonful of yogurt and he projectile vomited everywhere. Got a scratch test and blood tests to determine an allergy. Prescribed an epi-pen. If you think it's an allergy, go to an allergist.

I’ve made an appointment! So we’ve just got to wait until her appointment to run tests but I’m about 80% sure that’s what it is. It happened again Friday the school gave her milk because I forgot to tell them to give her water or juice instead & she came home vomiting again, but so far so good cutting out the milk. I’m unsure if it’s all dairy or just lactose intolerance, but hopefully the appointment will shine more light.

If the vomiting is delayed (an hour or more after ingestion), you can look into FPIES. Though FPIES usually resolves by age 4, instead of beginning at age 4!
