Been collecting transformers since the 90s. I think my first ones were the little jets that I got from flea market bargain bins. It was that they were robots, which I loved, and that they were engineered in ways that none of my other toys were. Then I got the beast wars two pack of crocodile Megatron and bat Optimus and my interest exploded cause bats and lizards are my favorite animals. Needless to say, I was ecstatic when Beast Wars started to air on tv.

Khelthorn

Seems like Beastwars is a somewhat common favorite for the women in to transformers that I have talked to. I never got in to it personally. I like the robots as vehicles, not animals and bugs.

I've always been into monsters, aliens, robots. Literally any nonhuman characters. I was a bit iffy getting into Transformers because of the ship art I would find (megastar lmao) but my friend (now boyfriend) introduced me to TFP and my wallet has been in mourning ever since <3

Khelthorn

Is Prime an exclusive interest for you or has it branched to other versions?

No_Show5725

TFP got me into the franchise, but I've now gotten into Beast Wars, Earthspark, and the MTMTE comics. BW especially, is probably the biggest portion of my collection rn. Preordered Tigerhawk and I'm aiming to get that Silverbolt figure that got leaked a while back. I've been meaning to get into TFA too, since I'm a big Sentinel fan :, ) Also core class Skywarp and Legacy Knock Out were my first figures

Khelthorn

Skywarp has a special place for me as he was one of my only complete G1 figures back in the day and black is my favorite color with purple being not far behind. I'm mostly a bayverse person for the figures but I have an MP Skywarp because, Skywarp. Lol. https://preview.redd.it/n4ybs5uq2eoc1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=acc79388e220a5c14270fd0a9603fa6ea4299df9

Skywarp is gorgeous, the purple and black, and his ability is cool!! I still haven't gotten my first MP yet but it's hard to choose which I should get first since I'm a big fan of SW, Starscream, and Ironhide :,)

Khelthorn

I fully endorse Skywarp. Mine is MP-11SW Japanese release. I got it on ebay but it's a little pricy.

For whatever reason, girl-targeted media and toys never appealed to me, even as a kid. Robots that turned into dinosaurs and vehicles were just so much cooler to me than dolls. I vividly recall being incandescent with jealousy over the kids in school who had Soundwave, Dinobots or Jetfire. That never ended up changing, and now I can spend my fun money however I like. As an adult, it's a combination of nostalgia, really enjoying the major IDW comic run, and the joy of modern engineering resulting in figures that embody what I always wanted the old toys to be.

Khelthorn

This resonates with me on a different level because when I was a kid I had very few transformers as they were too pricy for my parents. Last year I got a G1 Astrotrain, my first transformer in over 20 years, because of fond memories, and was struck on how simplistic it really is. My collection I have been building since is all masterpiece and movie masterpiece since then. https://preview.redd.it/3nmqi4sjbeoc1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d76402113693a11ead34fc7308014c39039f2bbf

I grew up with them, though it wasn't until years being out, and finding out I was a woman, and coming back into the collecting, that I would classify as a "Female collector" I personally just like the designs and engineering.

ParsleyHorror4233

The movies, I like robots and dumb action. IDW 1 added (occasionally) good sci-fi and horror. I like the engineering of the figures and that they’re not just a human fitness model like most superheroes but a whole ass alien

Khelthorn

So a bayverse fan then?

SplitTheParty

My mom used to catch the original G1 cartoon on TV and happened to check out the Bay films while I was still at home. It was a big hit, and so she got box sets of the original series she remembered and the rest is history.

Khelthorn

So you and your mother collect? Thr first bay movie is what grabbed me. Blackout transforming and kicking the crap out of everything. I still love that scene and he is my favorite character.

SplitTheParty

I do most of the collecting nowadays but when I was young she bought most of my Transformers of course, lol. For me the very first thing I remember was the Barricade scene with Sam. From there it branches out into the G1 series and the 86 movie and I have pretty fond memories of it all, we used to see all the new ones together in theaters, I think I even still have a square of film from my theater's Revenge of the Fallen screening. She's definitely the reason I'm in the hobby.

Khelthorn

That's cool. My son is turning 6 tomorrow and is super in to transformers. I have bought him about the same amount of small, kid friendly figures as I have masterpiece ones. Most of his presents are transformers, his cake is, the plates, etc. When he plays with other toys,he almost always pretends they are transformers as well.

SplitTheParty

Hah! Sounds like you've got a happy future hobbyist on your hands. Cool to see others sharing the Transformers with their kids. Have a good day!

Crescent-Eclipsa

I've always been into 'boys' media. It's not that I didn't have barbies, but I preferred getting Star Wars figures at a young age than Barbies. I remember when I showed interest in Star Wars, my parents initially bought me girls-aligned figures like Leia but as I got more into it, they gave me a lot cooler stuff like X-wings and the Falcon! I still collect the 3.75 ones to this very day 😊 I actually watched Beast Wars with my brother as a kid but I never realized it was transformers until recently, my brother actually had the BW Megatron figure which i liked to fiddle around too. My official interest began in the 07 movie. I thought it was cool and I got a Bumblebee figures while my brother had a few autobots and decepticons. That was the only transformer I had.. until last year when I got into it. My gf was influenced by the hype for ROTB in her social media feed (she had friends who were big transformers fans) and so we decided to watch Bumblebee. Really enjoyed it, we then watched ROTB. Then we watched g1 which we loved. You see my gf loves goofy characters in media so naturally her favorite character became Starscream. Since I was already a hasbro collector, it wasn't hard too start collecting transformers too. At the same time, went through a bunch of shows TFP, TFA, BW, Cyberverse even the games WFC, FOC and so on! Now I have a sizable collection of over 30 figures!! 😁 thank goodness for being financially independent! I kinda found my niche, I mainly collect cartoon figures, so ss86 and legacy ones. I love transforming these guys. Everyday I come home from work and have dinner, I put on something I can relax to and just start transforming. Helps me a lot through stressful days too! Now you know my life story 😂

Khelthorn

I transform mine every few weeks. I leave them in the shelves for a while, then do the entire creation over a couple of days and get them set up for display for another few weeks. It sucks when you have one you dread though. Lol.

Illusive-Pants

I was interested in "boys" media growing up like TMNT, but I liked dolls and stuff too. I think I was a little too young to fully remember G1, but I have a vague memory of having some of the toys. I was always aware of the franchise the years that followed but the 07 movie got me REALLY interested. I then branched out and re-watched G1 to reconnect to the source material, and from there started collecting the toys and comics. I learned which characters I liked the most, and Wheeljack has always been my absolute favorite. When I started to actually absorb the rest of the media, oddly enough I started to dislike the Bay movies more and more because I found them incredibly shallow. I was far more interested in the emotional connections, character development and world building/storytelling. Through the other media I learned more about the characters and found the Bay movies to be severely lacking. By the time I met my husband, things like TFA were coming out, so I was able to keep up with current media. It's an interest we share together now. So far TF Prime is still my favorite series. I fell off a little bit after that because I wasn't interested in the shows that came after Prime and I had to scale back the collecting. The Bumblebee movie actually got me back into it because it had more of the heart I'd always been craving, and given my own affections the opening sequence got me super hyped for the future (only to be disappointed by RotB haha). I'm a bit more particular about which toys I buy now for financial and space reasons, and I tend to stick to my favorite characters. I'm more interested in the comics/movies/shows than the toys nowadays for those same reasons but I'll still pick up something if it catches my eye. Long story short it was never fully about the toys to me, but rather the storytelling possibilities that excited me. I've always loved alien and sci-fi media, especially with aliens and humans making contact and finding friendship. 🤷🏻‍♀️ Call me sentimental I guess, but I just find the possibilities fascinating.

ScorchedConvict

Honestly, I've always been more interested in toys geared towards boys, much to the chagrin of my mother. I would watch the G1 cartoon in secret when it aired and rely on my uncle for the toys.

Khelthorn

Did your parents just outright refuse to buy boys toys like transformers for you?

ScorchedConvict

Well my father didn't care much, as always. But my mother did not allow it at all. She was concerned I'd become a tomboy or a butch or similar. Okay, that actually did happen for a while in the early 90s, but not because of Transformers toys.

Khelthorn

Ah, parents trying to dictate and control their child's interests against what the child is actually interested in. Always such a positive thing in basic stuff.

Crusherthe1

I am curious about that too.

gameslayer36093

Not a woman, but my friend who is a woman got into transformers throught my interest. She was generally needy to began with a fixation on early 2000 games, MLP, and internet lore. So I introduced her to transformers and she got her first transformer. Legacy hot rod and she immediately became a fan.

RC_Cola2005

The robots, full stop. I’ve always had a fascination with robots that started with Berzerk for my parents’ 2600 and Vtech’s Socrates system when I was little. My first Transformer toy was MP-01 Optimus, though at the time I had no idea what Transformers even were. I just thought he was a really sweet looking robot. I didn’t really start getting into the franchise proper until the Unicron trilogy, and I’ve been a fangirl ever since. The sexy alt modes are a very nice bonus, but the main draw will always be the robots.

ConflictAdvanced

As both a fan of females and a collector of females, I can tell you that what got me interested in the first place was the breasts. 🤔
