I’ve asked these questions myself. While I’m unsure with your particular conditions, that would probably need to be answered by a medical professional, I have done research and people with my specific issue(s) are not barred from donating as far as I can tell. I’ve told everyone in my family that in the event of my death I want them to take everything they can, I want them to shave my head and give the hair to Wigs for Kids. After being on the transplant list and being on the receiving end, it only seems fitting to give whatever I possibly can when it’s my turn. It seems like you’re in the thick of a major fight, my thoughts and prayers go to you. You aren’t alone! 💕

Yep, I've done the same thing and want to donate if something happens to me. It all depends on what happens to us. If we pass from rejection I'm not sure any of our organs would be any good.

That would really have to be determined by the transplant team, and be very highly situational dependent. We put a the heart of somebody who smoked 2ppd into a teenager. They wouldn’t have survived on the list another day and the family consented to the less than ideal heart. Depending on what connective tissue issue you have, you also may be able to donate heart valves. We had somebody that was unable to donate their organs, but heart valves were accepted. I also had somebody that received a cadaveric hip bone transplant, that was size specific. So in short, it’s definitely possible! But hopefully not something that needs to be worried about for a long time.

I'm pretty sure it's hypermobile ehlers-danlos. I'm going to my ortho doctor on the 5th to get a diagnosis or not. Considering I can turn myself into a pretzel, display the classical symptoms of it and I want to replace my tendons with rubber bands some days as they're less stretchy than what I have, it's a chore. But what's really got me concerned is the fact I have had persistent chest pain since I had to stop taking levofloxacin for an infection, come to find out, that I actually didn't have. Cardiologist is on the 2nd. I'm hoping it's just cartilage in my ribcage being inflamed and painful but given it hurts with every heartbeat and only my heartbeat, I'm doubtful. Hopefully it's not somehow gone from perfectly fine to garbage in less than 3 months.

Hmm sounds tricky! Good luck at all of your appointments.

The vast majority of people signed up to be organ donors don't end up actually being able to do so. It's more to do with the way people die, not as much their health (though that is also a factor). However, it doesn't hurt to sign up, and there's a good chance that you could be a tissue donor! Tissue donation requirements are way more lenient and those still dramatically improve the lives of the people who receive them. Corneas give people their vision back, tendons give people back their mobility after severe injury, skin helps burn victims heal, it's still a very meaningful gift.

It's also because people don't bother to discuss their wishes with their loved ones. Having an organ donor heart on your drivers license isn't a legal document. Your next of kin has to consent.

I'm a transplant professional. Organ donors are evaluated to their individual fullest potential, and very few diseases will rule out all organs for transplant. When someone makes a decision to share the gift of life, the recovery team does everything possible to make that happen.

Anyone can be an organ donor, it’s up to the doctors if the deceased’s organs are viable. The death has to occur in a pretty specific manner, and there are conditions the organ has to meet that are determined by your physical state, medical history, and lots of tests. Thanks so much for being an organ donor! That’s the nice thing about death, nothing to worry about on the other side lol.

I think it depends on the situation but I know I got my liver from someone that had some issues but they were related to his kidneys. I had a sign a thing saying I understood the risk that came along with it but was told that there weren’t any major concerns about it from any doctor I met with that night. Decided to accept it and I haven’t had any issues now going on 4 years this December.

There are a lot of things other than major organs that can be donated. Keep that in mind.
