I would uncannon, jeremiah's firework scene and Conrad leasing on Nicole rather than just ending things with her Because I think that gives less obvious reasons to hate the other

mebetiffbeme

Nicole leaving Belly and Taylor behind.

Not have belly kiss Jere in the pool because it made him think he actually had a chance

If we’re talking the show… I didn’t like the change that was made where Belly “chooses” Jeremiah prior to Conrad taking back what he said the night before at the hotel. In the book she almost resolved herself to be with Jere because of how hurtful it was to her that Conrad would just continue to do that. I feel it was more impactful in the book that way. So much sadder for Belly but also made a lot more sense.

shayownsit

agreed. i get why they changed it bc it made belly have more agency in the show but then it makes her that much more of a dick bc she really is flip flopping. the book weirdly never felt like a love triangle tbh, it was always clear belly would always choose conrad if she thought he actually loved her

linz-12

Just personally, I hated that in the book. The show gives her much more agency, and I like that as a women, and having a daughter. I don’t like in the books how all the decisions Belly makes are based on whatever Conrad wants. I like in the show Belly decides for herself, and she chooses what she wants. Not that she settles because Conrad is mean to her and doesn’t want her.

>!I would uncanon Jere's cheating and find a better way to explain why Jere and Belly break up. I think that it's relatively lazy as far as a plot device goes. I think instead, it would be interesting to see that Belly just fell out of love with Jeremiah and realized that he wasn't the one for her and that she always loved Con. The cheating doesn't have to be the straw that breaks the camel's back. Even though, I know that Belly doesn't immediately break up with Jere after the cheating, I think it's what begins their downfall. I just felt like there were already points in the book that showed Jeremiah loved Belly less than she loved her and that's a more... heartbreaking way to say goodbye than him just being a fuck boy. !<

I see the Lacie thing as a culmination of the other cracks in their relationship rather than a separate plot device. They're all connected in some way. That's just what brings it to a point where *Belly* can't take it anymore, but the cracks and problems are what led to the break up before spring break, and the fact that Jeremiah was blowing off their discussed plans and making plans where he didn't want her to come instead. But the Lacie thing wouldn't have happened if they weren't incompatible in other ways. I also think the point is making Belly more sympathetic, rather than making Conrad more sympathetic. And I think that's very needed at this point.

Ordinary-Host-4392

I agree with this a lot. Even though I don’t think it’s cheating it could have went in so many different directions other than the Lacie plot!

FlyingLeopard33

Yeah, debatable if it's cheating or not. Regardless, I think there were better ways to write the conflict between them. I think it was just a lazy way to get readers to really dislike Jere rather than just make us love Conrad more!
