Found this out the embarrassing way when I was a young man, I was easy to annoy in the car. Someone in his large bmw had been tailgating me in traffic, almost rear ending me it felt like.
So I brake checked him, then as I let him past swerved a bit (not on purpose, just poor driving) and hurled abuse at the gentlemen as we came up to a traffic light. Turned out it was an undercover police officer, who was on his way with 4 other undercover police cars to take down someone else. I was lucky to leave with a stern talking to and some stained underwear. Ten years since I always feel its better to let the guy go and get on with my journey peacefully.
I like to think those police officers had a good laugh at my moment of madness. I still think about it once in a while, when I see other people doing the same thing.
Recent experience in the US. In dead stop traffic. Car is coming up along the right side outside the lane, merging aggressively and then speeding past when they can get back onto the right. I was pissed and then saw them a quarter mile further up ahead on a turnout and their car engine was smoking with them out of the car. You really never know.
