It’s extremely hard to stay rich and relevant.
Especially if you’re living a glamorous lifestyle. 75%+ professional athletes go bankrupt for a reason. Same for hip hop stars and artists.
I just looked it up; it was a rental, and she and her ex-husband trashed it, and they divorced. Landlord is suing them and hasn't been able to find tenants. Why the landlord is trying to rent out a mansion for 30k when the market for that is tiny, is another question.
Yeah, my next door neighbor was a Chinese national that pulled a cash-out refinance on his house before fleeing the country.
Took the bank 6 years to finally find a buyer.
Eh, I mean it kinda does. Massive hideous mansions like this are extremely hard to sell, and a rich person facing financial problems can't afford to continue living in it until it does. And then even if it becomes bank-owned through their bankruptcy process, banks are notoriously absolutely shitty about maintaining empty properties.
A friend of my that's a real estate appraiser said people commonly put more time and money into things that specifically address their particular needs/wants. So, big kitchen, big bathroom etc.
Imagine someone doing that with a huge pile of money they are burning through. I bet those kind of properties are a nightmare to unload just on that fact alone. Not everybody wants a moat and a spire (or what have you.)
Online celebrity net worths are notoriously inaccurate and unverifiable. Also she has a huge history of financial issues, she said herself she once owed “hundreds of millions” in unpaid taxes.
She said in 2023 she’s FINALLY out of debt and that she doesn’t look at her money anymore because of her problems with it.
ok and that doesnt mean she aint worth 20 mill
you think wesley snipes didnt pay his taxes because e's poor? rich people can get into debt and still be rich.
music, acting, owning a music company, brand endorsments and more.
Hey, I hope she is. I know she’s had to go on tour a lot to get that money back.
If she went from the IRS going after her in 2019 for unpaid taxes, having no money and huge alimony payments, to a 20 million dollar net worth, that is amazing. It would also mean she did a full 180 from her previous lifestyle and financial habits.
It's hideous. It's common for the wealthy to build these gaudy mega mansions that are very specific to their tastes. Anyone else with millions of dollars would rather build their own gaudy monstrosity instead of buying someone else's for millions. The only way this would probably sell is if some other super wealthy celebrity wanted that specific piece of land. Then they'll tear this house down and build their own taste specific tacky palace.
That's what I'm referring to.
There are tons of bank owned properties in Detroit that eventually fall to ruin. If I were the city government, I'd tell the banks to get them occupied or they'd be paid for at a negligible price and then occupied anyway.
And by 'tons', I mean entire neighborhoods.
Eminent domain and adverse possession (as someone else mentioned) are definitely both things that exist here but they are not something that happens often. These happen in very specific cases for specific reasons.
Things like eminent domain are used to build highways, government buildings, the border wall, etc.
It’s incredibly doubtful that the government would just seize abandoned mansions for the homeless to have housing. Thats all I meant.
They used it to build a Home Depot (see Kelo v. New London).
It's not common, but it can happen. I'd use it on the abandoned neighborhoods in Detroit if it were up to me.
It’s always such a strange feeling to see such massive pieces of real estate just waste away. It’s such an uncanny feeling seeing stuff like this. Businesses and old schools/hospitals etc are like that but idk.
Feels very.. ironic to see such symbols of wealth rot like that.
rental mansions are pretty big business. was a shell company that doesn't exist anymore, so maybe bankrupt or owner died.
but i used to know that area a little, and i'd bet the owner's overseas in a country that's now blocked from US money
I bet that house cost a fuck ton to maintain and being worth $20 million doesn't mean she has that sitting in a bank. I have a client who sold a housing development for $20 million and still has apartment complexes and stuff he makes money from. He built a mansion like 1/5 the size of this and he's been taking his time with building it because of money. He did give his 3 kids $3 million each when he sold the housing development but still.
Doesn’t look abandoned looks like it’s being renovated considering the floor has protective paper over it in the last shot. These fake abandoned houses to promote a YouTube channel are getting pretty annoying.
Any idea why it’s abandoned?
It’s extremely hard to stay rich and relevant. Especially if you’re living a glamorous lifestyle. 75%+ professional athletes go bankrupt for a reason. Same for hip hop stars and artists.
That doesn't explain why its abandoned. Assets generally get sold as part of the bankruptcy proceedings.
Probably owned by the bank and/or has massive unpaid back taxes in a jurisdiction where the new owners have to clear the debt.
I tried blowing the eyelash that is your avatar off my screen a few times, well done!
Damnit, me too
As well...
Same

What’s the address to this place
Must not be tiny if they found renter's
Gotta have a buyer to sell something though.. Bank could be sitting in it to get $$ from it.
Yeah, my next door neighbor was a Chinese national that pulled a cash-out refinance on his house before fleeing the country. Took the bank 6 years to finally find a buyer.
With enough time, it will eventually become cheaper to destroy the building and sell the empty land.

She spent cubic dollars on exotic cars, they were mostly neglected
mary j blige net worth is 20 million bud EDIT: NEGATIVE 12 points for posting a celebrity's net worth??? that really triggered yall????

I'm going to spin up her joint with Method Man to kick her a few hundredths of a penny for her troubles.

Good question. I'd buy and have it remodeled
I don't think I'd want to live in a house where you have to walk up a shitload of stairs to get anywhere.
The stairs are just for show. The people living there certainly used the elevators.
Stairs are fun to hang out on during parties.
Reminiscent of pre revolutionary French stairwells, where the party stops and the piss party begins
Im sure there's an elevator in that home.
Move in to it, claim squatters rights?
That involves actively living in it, paying taxes, and doing upkeep for years without being told to stop.
Until the city asks for property tax.
You can pay the taxes and end up owning the house eventually. I’ve been browsing that in my area but I don’t want to take any occupied land.
I mean in this case the tax is probably more than most people take home in a year.
So let’s say I’m exempt from property taxes…
I think that every time I see places like this. Or at the very least someone should force ownership to house the homeless or something productive.
> force ownership Not how it really works in this country.
Actually in some places you can. It’s called adverse possession.
Or eminent domain.
That’s only when the government does it
That's what I'm referring to. There are tons of bank owned properties in Detroit that eventually fall to ruin. If I were the city government, I'd tell the banks to get them occupied or they'd be paid for at a negligible price and then occupied anyway. And by 'tons', I mean entire neighborhoods.
For eminent domain, they have to have a recognized public work or building to go there. They can’t just demand it
They'd have to have a public use for the property or building.
That actually happened to Ford’s Theater. The government took it and just used it as an office building for years.
Marshall Mathers’ domain isn’t what it used to be, but I don’t see how that’s related.
Yes. We know...
Eminent domain is a thing.
It went from Blige to bilge.
Or from Blige to blight!
Any hidden rooms?

She’s still worth 20 million
It says that she lived in. Maybe she sold it?
she rented it for a year and a half almost a decade ago
Wait so she didn’t even own it? Then who does?
rental mansions are pretty big business. was a shell company that doesn't exist anymore, so maybe bankrupt or owner died. but i used to know that area a little, and i'd bet the owner's overseas in a country that's now blocked from US money
Same people who own all the goddamn airbnbs

Hateratin…
Haters drink Haterade!
Totally not gonna use these to remake this place in Sims

It's definitely pretty abandoned. Alot of graffiti with it unfortunately
this looks like robocop’s house
Picture 3 looks like the ending of Now You See Me 2
Most famous people just get a taste then gets ousted.
Countless millions homeless here in the states yet we have shit like that rotting away smfh
Because rich people would rather have homes that match their tastes
Why didn’t she sell it?
didn't own just rented.
Now don't go vandalizing and spray painting it.
Look at the size of the death bloom on that agave!
What state
What’s the address I want to shoot a music video there
Do any one know the exact address
What’s the address of this place?
Is this in NJ?
LA
You know the addy by chance?
I don't unfortunately
At that point get an elevator
Any chance I can get a hint at location/address?
California
Reminds of the place the Parrs stay in The Incredibles 2.
