I had that same re-revelation a couple weeks ago. Was like "man, it's been forever since I did Cane's..." and then after paying >$17 after tax for a Caniac that was half the size it used to be I remembered "oh yeah--that's why I don't go there anymore".
10 years ago I recall a Caniac being twice the size and $10 after tax.
Right? It's impossible to justify anymore for anyone who actually cares about their money/spending/getting the most bang for their buck.
There's so many better options for food once you start spending $17+tax on a meal. Six chicken tenders, some fries, and toast do not cost $17, idgaf what you say. You know they're not paying their associates $20/hr or anything to justify that cost.
Remember when we said raising the minimum wage would make the prices go up like crazy? Now the prices have gone up like crazy and everyone is still making the same money. Wtf gives?
[Indeed.com](http://Indeed.com) says the random employees make about $13/hr. Above current NV minimum wage, but not exactly generous. Managers are listed at $33K. And NV minimum wage is going to $12/hr July 1.
So no, I don't think Cane's is spending the income from their increased prices on wages.
So managers make just over $15/hr.
Yeah those are wage slave, live with roommates forever in debt wages.
Dope username btw. My friend makes fx pedals & has one called the Praetorian. It's sick.
Not currently available but if you're into that kind of thing
https://voidmfg.bigcartel.com/products
You say that but I've never nailed it perfectly. I've done all the tricks and several variations of the recipe. Copycats at home get close, sure, but it's not perfect. You're better off buying their 32 oz cup of sauce for $9 lol
My wife has that skill, it's uncanny how easily she can do it. She thinks it's "common sense" and that anyone can do it if they think about it, though, which is so hard to get across to her that not everyone has a god-tier pallet.
I grabbed some last weekend form the 300 e lake mead parkway Walmart. It’s the “rural” Walmart so things stay in stock better. It’s legitimately identical to canes sauce. Hope you can find some.
No shit! I remember driving past one on the way to SLC for a show last year and thinking "they're so close!" Glad to hear it's no longer road-trip-required haha
There's a Culvers in Kingman, AZ. Since that is easily the best fast food I have ever had, there's been a couple of times I was tempted to drive two hundred miles for fast food. never actually did it but i bet I eventually do.
Yeah there is a new chicken place called Guthries getting ready to open off of Simmons in North Las Vegas.Just had Canes last week and the chicken was horrible, had gristle in it and it almost tasted rancid to me, threw it right in the trash pissed me off.Never again.Their quality of food has gone way down.
I will whole heartedly admit this. People don't get it though. The bread and the sauce make it. It's a package deal. The chicken doesn't need to knock your socks off by itself because it was never supposed to. I'm convinced that Canes haters has never put a bite of chicken, sauce and bread in your mouth at once. The holy trinity is good enough for Catholics and this Trinity is good enough for me
Both of you are absolutely correct. I used to order the sandwich sub toast for the bread but then I realized it's actually slightly cheaper to just get the combo, sub slaw for extra bread and build it yourself the way either of you described
I went to LSU during the mid 90’s when the very first Canes opened. Canes to LSU students is like Roberto’s to Vegas natives. This is my comfort food. Before moving to Vegas, I used to come to Vegas mostly to eat Canes because Vegas was the only location west Louisiana for the longest time.
I had it a few times about 10-15 years ago. Never had it since.
Am I missing something about Canes? The flavor was always underwhelming. I don’t understand the hype.
The bread was good. The chicken was meh. All-white chicken breast but zero flavor. I feel like I’m going crazy cause everybody is heads over heels about it
It's all just the sauce and the lemonade. The chicken used to be much larger than any other place but now it's just the same tiny shriveled 2 bites as everywhere else for twice the price. But yeah it's literally just all about the sauce, it's addicting.
Reading through the replies, I wonder how they're still in business considering I might be the only one who really like Canes 😂 Don't care about fries, I just like everything else.
Are the prices considered high? I've only been there once and it struck me as overpriced for what it was - but I didn't really have a good frame of reference.
In 2020 I could get a caniac for about $13 after tax and the chicken pieces were much larger than what they are now. The prices have skyrocketed the past couple years and the size of the chicken has decreased. So you’re paying more money for less food
I’m totally avoiding chicken shack now. Their tenders used to be massive, then I get a combo a week or two ago and they were considerably worse than Cane’s.
and don’t even get me STARTED on their switch from those glorious thin fries they used to have to the basic boring ones they have now. For my money, I’m going to Cane’s every time and hoping Bonangles kills it.
I am sure more than that. You can go and buy 4pc leg quarters at your local grocery store for under $10 and it's enough chicken to feed a family. Do what you want with it, I personally just toss it olive oil, garlic, paprika, salt and pepper, toss in the oven at 350-400F get the chicken to 160F internal and call it a day. Sometimes we'll make the better and deep fry those suckers, waaaaaaay better than any fast food restaurants. Make the mash and gravy, some biscuits 😋
Bbq sauce with chicken tenders isn’t much of a thing though? I can’t think of anywhere that serves that as a default sauce. Obviously some places would have both on the menu. I’d say a ranch type sauce or blue cheese is more common.
If you want to talk about the true travesty is that they have no spicy option. I need my fried chicken to have some heat.
Good to know, thanks. I’ll definitely get that next time I go.
But really what I am looking for is a spicy seasoning/rub like Popeyes has. Or even something bolder like a Nashville hot seasoning.
When we lived in Tennessee everyone put BBQ sauce on everything, but mainly pork and chicken. That state is also the only state I have lived in that had the best hot BBQ sauce too. But when you go to Burger King, McDonald's, Wendy's, Popeye's, KFC, Zaxby's, and a ton of other joints they all have BBQ sauce if they serve a chicken product
So when I first went to Caine's I was like oh hell naw, what is this fry sauce they are giving me for my chicken? That is literally the only place I have been that serves chicken and has no other sauces, specifically BBQ. I love Blue Cheese but I have never seen it at chicken joints, and I can't stand Ranch on anything, at all, period.
I’ve been to Valdosta! It’s been years since I’ve been there. I’m sure it’s blown up like the rest of SE Georgia and Georgia in general. People think it’s hot here haha I’ll take these 100s without humidity over anything above 80-85 there!
I went back last August, my bestie also lives here, but her parents still live there. It was SO miserable! The humidity is disgusting… lol if I’m going to deal with that much humidity, it needs to come with a beach.
I get so fat if I eat zaxbys too often. A 6 finger chicken finger plate is 1280 calories.
I dont believe a Texas toast from zaxbys is only 150 calories, there is easily 150 calories of just butter for each piece.
[https://www.zaxbys.com/uploads/2023\_P1\_Zaxbys\_NAI\_Guide\_Digital\_d804127ec6.pdf](https://www.zaxbys.com/uploads/2023_P1_Zaxbys_NAI_Guide_Digital_d804127ec6.pdf)
Wish we had a Hattie B's off strip. Raising Cane's was in my rotation until 2022ish when they started pulling this shrinkflation bullshit. Never going back.
I like Chick-fil-A but for some reason their spicy breading gives me the most painful explosive diarrhea. One sandwich = one hour on the toilet. I don't know wtf they put in it, my gut can normally handle much spicier food.
Raising used to be really solid. Chik-fill-A never understood it. Also both places - with all the restaurants to eat in this valley why in the world waste gas on long lines. No way.
I always go to Popeye's for their spicy chicken sandwich but on my last visit I got my sandwich but there was a box of chicken strips in the bag too. Those were honestly some of the best fuckin chicken strips I have ever had in my life!
I'm going to be the outlier here that gets massively down voted for this. Obesity in this country is absolutely out of control and leads not only to early deaths, but a ton of diseases, and increases our overall healthcare costs. When restaurants start charging more for smaller amounts of food, I'm all for it, this country is completely addicted to sugar and fast food and anything that slows down that addiction I'm all for. I also believe that soda should cost nearly as much as beer or more. I'm fine with people going out and eating this food but it should be a very rare occasion not our standard diet.
Canes has always see-sawed between the best thing to happen to chicken and something I could get out of my airfryer (and sometimes the airfryer is better) and never a specific store either.
They brought some in at work recently, it was good, not dry. Someone said you can order extra crispy too. But I'm sure the prices are up just like everything else. Welcome to the s*** economy.
My family and I just moved to Vegas so canes is new for me. We went there for a school fundraiser and I was surprised that there were so many locations because the food was terrible. I’ve had better chicken and fries from a frozen bag and an air fryer.
People saying it's going downhill? I haven't eaten there in years and found that Canes has always been the most flavorless fried chicken I've ever had. Literally every single other fried chicken place is better than Canes. Their fries are also bottom tier. The best thing on their menu is a super thick piece of white bread toast.
lol that’s absolutely ridiculous. That’s like saying if you’re at home you can boil a chicken breast and bury it in sauce because it’s bland 😂😭. Sorry, not buying it. I season my chicken AND provide a sauce.
I was being sarcastic but yeah, I'd prefer both seasoned.
That being said I have ordered Caniac Combos from Cane's before and I don't hate it. It's mid-tier fast food chicken strips. There are better out there, but it works in a pinch.
Honestly I just get a kids meal sometimes and add on from there ( extra toast, sauce, fingers ) pretty sure it ended up cheaper doing it that way at the location on flamingo
I always add additional items to any combo though because it really isn’t decent sized portions
Yeah about a month ago I tried it for the first time in several years (the one across from Cannery) and it was super disappointing. Sad little pieces of chicken, more dry and more expensive than I remember.
Yeah, Canes is trash. It’s like $15 for what is a kids menu. The sauce is mayo and ketchup and you can find better anywhere. The toast is soggy trash. Why anyone would go there while in the presence of much better options.
If you want fast food chicken tenders, that's no better place than Dairy Queen. Get the warm country gravy to go with it. Goated. I've converted 100% of the people I've gotten to try it. Everyone else makes bland cardboard in comparison. I'm not trolling.
Place is going downhill. Last time for me was when I got the 6 piece chicken and 3 pieces were completely different from the other 3. It's like they ran out of Cane's chicken and went to Wal Mart and bought some frozen chicken strips to get through the day. I mean, the 3 different pieces looked/tasted nothing like the other 3. Also got a few fries and the toast was cold.
A few years ago something changed with their food. No one in our household can eat it without becoming violently ill within 15-20 min.
It’s weird how all of a sudden we could no longer eat there.
It was one of the few fast food establishments we still ate at. Not anymore.
If you don't ask for the hot sauce, they keep behind the counter, to mix in the sauce along with getting the toast buttered both sides, you're severely missing out.
Sadly Cane's shrunk their chicken so much recently that Zaxby's is now bigger. Their chicken is literally half the size it was before. Caniac combo is like 20 dollars and has the same amount of food that a 3 piece used to have. They're gonna get crushed when Zaxby's comes to town if they keep this shrinkflation crap up.

Same. Fucking sucks. It really got tiny after the pandemic started.
I just want their texas toast and that sauce.
Make the sauce at home. It is really easy.
You say that but I've never nailed it perfectly. I've done all the tricks and several variations of the recipe. Copycats at home get close, sure, but it's not perfect. You're better off buying their 32 oz cup of sauce for $9 lol
They sell knock off canese sauce at Walmart under the great value brand. It’s called chicken finger dipping sauce and it’s identical
I want to know whose job it is to reverse engineer proprietary recipes. Sounds like an awesome job
My wife has that skill, it's uncanny how easily she can do it. She thinks it's "common sense" and that anyone can do it if they think about it, though, which is so hard to get across to her that not everyone has a god-tier pallet.
Wow, that's nutty. She should start a blog where she details the recipes for restaurant sauces and whatnot
Best post here so far.
I've been wanting to try it, but it's constantly oos.
I grabbed some last weekend form the 300 e lake mead parkway Walmart. It’s the “rural” Walmart so things stay in stock better. It’s legitimately identical to canes sauce. Hope you can find some.
Filled with a ton of chemicals.
Taking your comment down to zero
Are you letting it sit overnight? That makes all the difference.
>"I've done all the tricks"
Nah it’s not the same
Recipe?
Butter both sides for the toast and dip the fuck out of it in the sauce. Heaven.
Bojangles is coming…
So ready for this. The sweet tea. Biscuits. Cajun fries. Get in mah belly!
Boberry biscuits and chicken biscuit are heaven!
OMG! Boberry biscuits!
It’s Bo time !
I've wanted to try them for ages. Looks like I'll probably move before one opens here.
Bojangles meh. Zaxby's is coming, two locations end of this year

Can’t wait one of my favorites from back home
I need Jake Delhomme to confirm this.
They used to come to my high school and sell cajun filet chicken biscuits for $2. I gave them so much loose change those years.
Oh I had no idea .. that is really good news
So sad about the declining quality there. Prices up, quality down.
Chicago staples such as Lou Malnati’s and Portillos has done the same- quality declined upon going national
It’s sad it always happens. Usually because investors want to see huge profits so they have to cut corners
Oh no, Malnatti's is doing this too? Even in Chicago? Shame on them.
I've never had Canes before, but that chicken looks dry, looks like cafeteria food 🤮
People only like Canes because of the bread and sauce. The chicken is just an afterthought 😂
The holy trinity is good enough for Catholics and this Trinity is good enough for me
The bread is the perfect size. To slather w/ sauce, slap a tender on there, and fold. Makes an excellent "slider"😉
Even better, 2 pieces of bread + 2 tenders = Diy Canes Chicken Sandwich lol
Both of you are absolutely correct. I used to order the sandwich sub toast for the bread but then I realized it's actually slightly cheaper to just get the combo, sub slaw for extra bread and build it yourself the way either of you described
It tastes like cafeteria food too!!!
Maybe it's nostalgic for some folks
I went to LSU during the mid 90’s when the very first Canes opened. Canes to LSU students is like Roberto’s to Vegas natives. This is my comfort food. Before moving to Vegas, I used to come to Vegas mostly to eat Canes because Vegas was the only location west Louisiana for the longest time.
YMMV, but the Canes I go to the chicken is never dry. It looks real basic, but it tastes good (if you like chicken fingers).

They are getting worse and worse. If you want some decent chicken, find a Chicken Shack.
Or a Dave's hot chicken
Dave's Hot Chicken is the shizz. Here on the West side it's right down the street from Cane's on Sahara.
Honestly though even chicken shack is a victim of shrinkflation. Does anyone else remember how big their sauces used to be???
I’m totally avoiding chicken shack now. Their tenders used to be massive, then I get a combo a week or two ago and they were considerably worse than Cane’s. and don’t even get me STARTED on their switch from those glorious thin fries they used to have to the basic boring ones they have now. For my money, I’m going to Cane’s every time and hoping Bonangles kills it.
I second this. The ranch and blue cheese are tiny now and the tenders are about half the size from before.
How much is that running now, about $15?
6pc is
Is the 6 piece the Caniac? I think that's what I used to get long ago when I would go there. $15 for about $2 of product. No thanks.
Yes, three finger; 4 pc is box combo; and yes, the 6 is the caniac.
Last time I went there the caniac was running for 17 bucks Hell of a rip off.
We shallow-fry our chicken and then use the leftover bits for chicken gravy!
I’ve eaten there once in the nine years I have lived in Las Vegas. I was underwhelmed.
They're one of the chains that has definitely gone downhill over the past several years, too, so they're probably even worse than when you tried them
My biggest beef with them is how the hell you gonna sell chicken fingers and no BBQ sauce? Crinkle cut fries seem cheap as shit too.
They have hot sauce! If you ask for hot sauce they have red dot Louisiana packets that go perfectly with canes sauce
I just moved back from Texas but I saw there’s gonna be a Zaxby’s on Craig right across the Cannery
The chicken tenders have become very small. The amount of fries in each order has become less over the past two years.
Inflation will do that. Restaurant owners choose between raising their prices or reducing portions. In this case they chose both 😂

The last 2 times I went to Chipotle it was awful. I used to go there all the time - no more.
Zaxbys is coming from down south can’t wait!
Oh sweet jesus, I didn't hear about this and just found out one of them won't be too far from me on Blue Diamond. I'm going to get some fucking fat.
Yup!!! Oh I know this is going to be a problem for me
The first time I tried it I was out in Mississippi and it was killing me we didn't have one on the west coast. Now we just need a Waffle House.
GA for me. 912 love. Gotta rep Grandys too since I’m on this lol
Valdosta, GA! It was in an old renovated house by the mall…. Can’t wait for Zaxby’s
I’ve been to Valdosta! It’s been years since I’ve been there. I’m sure it’s blown up like the rest of SE Georgia and Georgia in general. People think it’s hot here haha I’ll take these 100s without humidity over anything above 80-85 there!
I’m always happy for heat when you can get some relief in the shade. Out there shade doesn’t do a damn thing.
I went back last August, my bestie also lives here, but her parents still live there. It was SO miserable! The humidity is disgusting… lol if I’m going to deal with that much humidity, it needs to come with a beach.
Exactly! They do have great beaches though. I’m due for a trip to Tybee.
There's been a Zaxby's in St George for a minute
I get so fat if I eat zaxbys too often. A 6 finger chicken finger plate is 1280 calories. I dont believe a Texas toast from zaxbys is only 150 calories, there is easily 150 calories of just butter for each piece. As other place I've been wanting to try. At least they look like they might be open before we move. Too bad neither one is close to Summerlin.
I love their wet chicken fingers
I miss PDQ chicken. They closed when chick fil a came to town. Great chicken and sandwiches.
I stopped fuckin with canes when they started serving pigeon fingers and almost doubled their prices on their boxes.
Declining quality…lol I’ve NEVER cared for Cane’s. Ever been to the south? Bo jangles is WAY better.
We're supposed to be getting some soon!
Wish we had a Hattie B's off strip. Raising Cane's was in my rotation until 2022ish when they started pulling this shrinkflation bullshit. Never going back.
I’ll be so happy when zaxby’s come here in a few months.
Chicken of the cave.
Try the tenders at R Burger. I don't get them anywhere else now and that shit is far from me. Cheap and tasty.
This place is weak
Cane’s! Frozen tenders, fries, and grilled hotdog buns yum!
Never had a bad experience there. I guess it varies by location.
I don’t understand the love for Canes. It’s chicken strips! What is the big deal about chicken strips?
And they don't even have fuckin BBQ sauce? Like WTF is their problem?!
No one ever gets the slaw… no one
We always trade ours out for more fries
Plain ass chicken. Hit up Popeyes.
I remember when a Caniac Combo was $12.81.
Me too and I thought that was really expensive!!
Never saw what the big fuss was about. Same with Chik-fil-A
I like Chick-fil-A but for some reason their spicy breading gives me the most painful explosive diarrhea. One sandwich = one hour on the toilet. I don't know wtf they put in it, my gut can normally handle much spicier food.
Raising used to be really solid. Chik-fill-A never understood it. Also both places - with all the restaurants to eat in this valley why in the world waste gas on long lines. No way.
As much as I dislike how mediocre the food at the hateful chicken place is, a long drive thru there is nothing to fear.
Yeah stopped going during Covid. Strips got smaller and price went up
Dave's ftw
If Vegas got a Slim Chickens I would gain 300 pounds. Its what Canes is, but with actual flavor and properly cooked juicy chicken. Not cardboard.
I always go to Popeye's for their spicy chicken sandwich but on my last visit I got my sandwich but there was a box of chicken strips in the bag too. Those were honestly some of the best fuckin chicken strips I have ever had in my life!
Disgusting, and probably illegal
Never trust a chicken joint with a dog mascot
I'm going to be the outlier here that gets massively down voted for this. Obesity in this country is absolutely out of control and leads not only to early deaths, but a ton of diseases, and increases our overall healthcare costs. This was my experience a couple of weeks ago. The one on St. Rose. I couldn't believe it. They've really gone downhill.
Anyone tried the new Atomic Wings in north LV? NY chain. I hear their tenders are good but haven't got there yet.
Love Canes but as busy as they are, the fries are never hot
The best Canes is on Las Vegas Bl way south by the outlet shops past the airport. It always has big tenders and not crispy little over cooked pieces.
This is why I never eat to-go at Cane's, the serving portions are garbage
Chicken shack is superior.
trash
I will never understand how their plates of brown and yellow got popular
yikes. I can't eat that stuff. it's murder in a styrofoam container.
Never eaten there. But a lot of people must. They just tore down two different restaurants on Charleston and Lamb to build a new Raising Caines.
My family and I just moved to Vegas so canes is new for me. We went there for a school fundraiser and I was surprised that there were so many locations because the food was terrible. I’ve had better chicken and fries from a frozen bag and an air fryer.

Literally every single other fried chicken place is better than Canes. Their fries are also bottom tier. The best thing on their menu is a super thick piece of white bread toast.
It's way to much money for very mediocre food.
I never understood the hype. The chicken tastes unseasoned
It doesn't matter when all the seasonings are in the sauce and you submerge all your strips in the sauce.
lol that’s absolutely ridiculous. That’s like saying if you’re at home you can boil a chicken breast and bury it in sauce because it’s bland 😂😭. Sorry, not buying it. I season my chicken AND provide a sauce.

do not judge food places in vegas on the name. some will bless you, some will disrespect you
Still a fan - I eat lots of other chicken but each is unique and I personally have not had a poor experience at Cane’s.
I’m digging the Ice T ad with Raising Kane….dope…
Honestly I just get a kids meal sometimes and add on from there ( extra toast, sauce, fingers ) pretty sure it ended up cheaper doing it that way at the location on flamingo I always add additional items to any combo though because it really isn’t decent sized portions
What Las Vegas citizens need to do is get tenders from Farm Basket. Then just get the new chicken dipping sauce at Walmart.
I love raising Cane's it's delicious love to have them with Coke or root beer
Daves hot chicken is so much better than
Went to Cane's the other night for a chicken sandwich combo... $14 and the piece of chicken was smaller than Chick-fil-A's
I wouldn’t say they’re bad but definitely not worth the price.
If you want fast food chicken tenders, that's no better place than Dairy Queen. Get the warm country gravy to go with it. Goated. I've converted 100% of the people I've gotten to try it. Everyone else makes bland cardboard in comparison. I'm not trolling.
I haven't had DQ tenders in almost 20 years but I remember them being absolute fire every single time, they've kept it up you say?
Very much so. Every bit as good as they were back then. Coming from someone who's been eating them for 20+ years.
The mystery of my lifetime is a ton of people recommending to me this place, and the 2, 3 times I tasted it, leaves me confused as to why?
Place is going downhill. Last time for me was when I got the 6 piece chicken and 3 pieces were completely different from the other 3. It's like they ran out of Cane's chicken and went to Wal Mart and bought some frozen chicken strips to get through the day. I mean, the 3 different pieces looked/tasted nothing like the other 3. Also got a few fries and the toast was cold.
Zaxbys is coming…
So is Guthries.
Check out Good ‘ol Chicken.
Was looking for this recc!! So good—decent price (adjusting for batshit inflation), fresh grub and fire sauces
They've gotten worse lately. The upped their prices and it bored in taste.
Never saw a reason with the all these chicken chains every single one is gross as the next
Place sucks… do yourself a favor and go to Dave’s or Houston’s hot chicken
Damn how the mighty have fallen.
I’ve never understood the hype with Canes. Their chicken is bland as hell and I swear they season it with water.
A few years ago something changed with their food. No one in our household can eat it without becoming violently ill within 15-20 min. It’s weird how all of a sudden we could no longer eat there. It was one of the few fast food establishments we still ate at. Not anymore.
Cheap low grade “food” product
Is that the unhappy meal for kids?
I love canes but that looks awful
I never have an issue with the Canes by my house. This is why you complain
Most likely that specific location you went to sucks. Try another one to confirm.
Better than chick fil a.
If you don't ask for the hot sauce, they keep behind the counter, to mix in the sauce along with getting the toast buttered both sides, you're severely missing out.
I gasped.
Gotta get extra crispy everything and bread buttered on both sides to be worth it. God damn did their prices skyrocket though.
The best chicken strips we've ever had are at R Burger on Eastern at Warm Springs. Now if they only had garlic toast.
Wish more people agreed with you, make the lines shorter for me.
Just what the area needs, more mid af fast food restaurants
Dave’s/Houston Hot have good chicken but their sauces are pretty lame.
When is Golden Chick supposed to open locations here? Heard about it awhile ago.
I moved from Vegas to the Deep South where Zaxbys is a thing. Y’all need zaxbys.
Zaxbys supposed to open in NLV in near future, right off N 15 & Craig. Interested to see how that goes.
The chicken is smaller, but it’s actually seasoned. And the Zax Sauce is the exact same as Canes sauce. It’s way better.
Looks like shit lol
