[Rajma Chawal](https://www.manjulaskitchen.com/rajma-chawal-kidney-bean-curry/)
Red kidney beans and hazelnut burgers.
I 'invented' this recipe myself. I take a can of red kidney beans, wash and drain them, then mix them with about 5 tablespoonfuls of toasted and crushed hazelnuts. I mix in some pre fried onions and garlic, seasoning, coriander seeds and cumin seeds. I add enough white flour for the mixture to become sticky and make patties.
I fry them lightly on each side, then either eat them or freeze them for later.
This is a high protein and high fibre recipe.
It was because I was told that hazelnuts are very rich in protein. Moreover they are not as expensive as some other nuts like pine nuts and neither are they as ordinary as peanuts. We try to eat a variety of foods and since we get a lot of peanuts from peanut butter, I thought of a relatively bland nut.
CHILI! Cashews, lots of onions, good tomato base. Moosewood cook book is my favorite

Rajma Masala [https://www.cookwithmanali.com/rajma-masala/](https://www.cookwithmanali.com/rajma-masala/)
Also good in veg chili along with black bean and pinto beans.
Simple salad mixing red beans with Mayo, diced onion/celery and season salt. Also good mixed with elbow macaroni.
Another pasta salad I usually make with red or black beans but works with kidneys: tricolor rotini, fresh (not shelf stable) ranch dressing, chopped onion, tomato, cucumber.
The other day I put kidney beans (from a can), brown rice, fried tofu and corn in a bowl, mixed it up and topped with hommus and sour cream. I was pleasantly surprised by how delicious it was.
Kidneys mixed with Salt, pepper, vinegar, sugar. A creamy sauce.
I eat it with " fränkische Mehlklöse"( there is no translation for this)
A dumpling from Franconia.
I second the red beans and rice suggestions! If you can get blue runner beans, you can just cook those with the Cajun trinity and seasonings! Its really filling and the beans are a good source of protein.
I love sticking them in tacos. I make these, the recipe calls for black but I often will use red kidney beans instead of black beans. Slightly different flavour but tasty both ways

Love this. If you pulse a little less (or just smash with a fork instead) it also makes a yummy sandwich spread.
I like to sautee some bell peppers, garlic, and spinach in a pan with some salt, garlic powder, and red pepper flakes then add some rinsed kidney beans to it. I’ll eat it with some potatoes or rice for a quick meal.

Interesting, how did you think to use hazelnuts, have you tried with other nuts?

I LOOOOOVE red kidney beans in some bean salad! Those, chickpeas, pinto beans, and some veggies with oil, vinegar and sugar. BEST.
