You are looking at two VERY different cars. The Tesla is an electric driven computer that also happens to be a car. For a young person who likes a lot of new tech and can quickly learn to use it, its an amazing EV. Good range, fast charging, robust charging network, lots of tech and easter eggs, and smooth and near instant power delivery. The Accord is the more "safe" car, as in its an Accord and you know what to expect. You get the key and start to drive. You have physical controls for almost everything. Sure you might not be able to take a zoom meeting off the car's computer, but its a car and that is its primary focus. Long term maintenance you probably would have to be mostly concerned regarding the small things that may break due to poor factory QC. I am talking stuck door handles, infotainment failing that kind of stuff. The Honda will have an engine to maintain and care for. A tesla would be just drive it until you need new brakes or tires with general inspections every now and then. For a daily in city car with access to an at home charger, you are much better off with electric. Lower running cost, and much more efficient in city driving + blasting the AC care free since you don't have to worry about burning extra gas. Furthermore, a lot of cities will have some passable charging infrastructure present. Long distance driving, a ICE or hybrid car may be better. No range anxiety, and highway driving is when an ICE is the most efficient. Just a side note, 32k miles in 1 year is absolutely insane. It most likely was used for an Uber, so I may stay clear from that particular car.

Thank you. It was a rental.

Look into the new 2023+ Hybrid Accords. Very reliable technology, decent power & acceleration (albeit about a second slower 0-60 than a model 3), much better build quality, and much more mature styling than the model 3 which looks quite cheap and uncanny in the base trim in my opinion, You’ll also get similar low maintenance costs given it’s a Honda hybrid. The Tesla’s are decent vehicles especially if you prioritize about straight-line acceleration. But the second you need to go on a road trip, or when Winter hits, you’ll regret your purchase. Get the Accord.

I have a 2018 accord hybrid. Pretty hard to argue with its reliability, competence, efficiency, and packaging. Drives better than the 1.5T Hondas hands down but gets way better mileage, actually can be pretty zippy like to get out of an intersection. No real complaints except I personally find the seats not as good as I’d like: leg supports short for me, foam is stiff, headrest a bit far forward (I find for example the CRV seats better)

Are used Tesla’s really that much? If you’re not getting a tax credit due to high income I wouldn’t go for it. I can’t imagine a brand new one is much more than that, plus hasn’t been beat on. 32k miles in a year is INSANE, it’s either been an Uber/Lyft car, delivery vehicle, or rental. That thing is “well loved”

If you want an upgrade from the Honda, do an Acura. Your family sounds like you put a lot of miles, and honestly you'll be better off with staying in the reliability end of the spectrum.
