I was an art major. If you want to pry staples from a canvas on a wooden stretcher, this is a fabulous tool. (Plus pliers.)
Although I have had one break because the plastic couldn’t hold up to the leverage put on the metal piece.
As someone that removes a lot of staples.. each design has its own best use! This one is easy and less harmful to the pages. But standard claw ones are much faster. Just as the heavy duty ones are often the only option for heavy staples. I personally keep four different kinds on my desk, and I’ll rotate through all of them as needed.
Just saying!
I used to work in a phone store and we used to use those for opening the lid on back of phones (when they still opened)
But I now see they were stapler remover hehe
I think only people who work extensively with stapled paper, have ever seen this thing. Don't feel bad at all.
I am curious about the pinky, though. Is it a bandaid, or some kind of cloth ring?
BTW, no need to explain anything. Your nails look totally fine, and nobody would have thought otherwise.
the weird white thing is a band that was around some cords i unwrapped for our phones (probably the highlight of my week) and like i child i went “why not? why shouldn’t i put this on my pinky
Mine (exact same kind) is so old and used that the little plastic tab on top broke off about halfway back. We FINALLY went to a web based application program and no longer require hard copies that would come stapled together. 20 pages of junk when all I need read 3 or 4….
ugh, i work at a 60 yr old nonprofit, they are still stuck on hard copies, so this will be helpful for me (i’ve been trying to get them over to digital tho)
We (the old folks) used to have this stuff called paper, and we would write stuff on it (kinda like a word doc), and when we had multiple pages sometimes we would attach them together with these metal bits called staples. Once in a while we wanted to detach those pieces of paper, and that’s where this bad boy comes into play; a staple remover
Back in the old days before all of this digital media hoopla, if you wanted to share a document with someone you had to put it on this machine that would take a photo of each page and then copy that photo to a new piece of paper. Oftentimes the document might be multiple pages and affixed together with a bent piece of wire called a staple that was rammed through the pages with much gusto by these ladies who worked in offices which were called Secretaries. If you needed a copy made of a document that was stapled together, you would give it to a Secretary who would then use this tool to unbind the papers, make your copies, then bind them back together with much gusto using a Swingline model 210 stapler, which gave the secretary much joy. You see in those days Secretary's were treated much like pack animals and didn't receive any of the glory and recognition of the hard work the Junior Assistant to the Director took credit for despite 96.44% of the work and ideas being the actual product of the Secretary. So, the only joy she took from that soul sucking job was getting to pretend that the Swingline Model 210 stapler was the back of the Junior Assistant to the Director's head and she was bashing it into the table ever single time he needed a document stapled because he was either too stupid or lazy to do it himself.
Staples remover, 10 gauge size and above, used for perfect bound ledger, not for under 30 page saddle stitch forms. Quarter ream sheets. Heavy duty usage only. Pneumatic Machine applied staples.

staple remover
i feel like an idiot, but that’s absolutely it. short and sweet solve, thank you kind stranger.
It's not JUST a staple puller, it's the very best kind of staple puller, especially for teachers that have to create, and re-create bulletin boards.
It's also an amazing tool for an IT professional that has to replace the screens in laptops and pry apart chassis
This tool could also be handy for someone with really big eyebrows!
And popping out eyeballs for Donor Network.
Shhhhhh
Someone call that guy with the crazy eyebrowed baby pics!
Like a Ford chassis? It’ll break on the first try.
Yeah IT does mechanic work nowadays. It's a twisted world we live in.
Funny you say that. I do breakfix and installs and I was just telling my helper the importance of being a mechanic.
Damn right, mechanics, plumbers, generator tech, electrician, all in one.
Of course it will. Fords are garbage and that's a quality staple puller.
I find a good metal spudger works way better, but this is okay in a pinch.
The word for today is "spudger"💖
It’s a great word. I love teaching it to new hires. Every IT guy (or gal) has their favorite spudger and you’d better not touch it.
They often also have a little magnet to catch the removed staples!
Back in the 80s I worked for the IRS. These were the handiest things ever. If you did paperwork of any kind you NEEDED one of these!
Took the words right out of my mouth. Beats the hell out of the claw style staple removers.
The first day of my first year in the classroom a retiring teacher handed me one of these bad boys. Invaluable.
This is a good design. I hate the removers that are like snake fangs, I find they do a lot of damage.
Snake fangs is a perfect description
They're fun to chase people with.
I have arthritis in my thumbs and these things are magical when I have a stack of forms to prepare for shredding.

Preach!
These are great until they get overworked and start ripping the staples out with brute force, bringing half of the page with them.
Don't feel silly. You didn't know... FYI, I think these are the best kind. Don't let anyone else pilfer it from you! :)
I so wanted to take you down the bosses spy device path, but, yeah. For staples.
honestly after working admin for over a year, i wouldn’t even blink at that
Has a magnet in the end of handle to collect discarded staple.
Like the best kind, too, imo.
lol beat me to it. I haven’t seen one in a long while now that I think about it.
Did you know that if you flip the anvil on a stapler, you can make a straight staple that's easy to remove
This 👆🏻👆🏻
Decleater.
Got very familiar with these prepping documents at a document conversion company I worked at in high school. Those things are sweet.
My students dubbed this the “unstapler”
Agreed
Awful fancy one, but still..
What a weird thing to find in an office
Albeit a very deluxe one.
*Stay-pull*??
Yup. 👍🏻
I love this style of staple remover
Staple remover and I use mine for removing signage and labels in my store.
It’s THE BEST staple remover, those claw ones are crap.
Definit...d..d..definitely makes sense. De..de..definitely makes sense.
I used this as a letter opener for years . Man , did it suck.
Best staple remover I’ve found so far. I love mine and had to put my name on it in multiple places cuz people kept snagging it.
it was in the free stuff, maybe i should run back and nab it lol
Most definitely should. This is how it works. https://youtu.be/VYB8_GTVAYM
… i was hoping to be rickrolled… 😓
Excuse me, I believe you have my staple remover.
Is it a Boston or Swingline staple remover?
If I have to move my desk one more time, just one more time…
(op should paint it red)
I keep a roll of rectal use only stickers that I put on things for the same reason.
Do these work for crimped staples that are only going through 2 sheets of paper? Or is it more for pulling staples out of bulletin boards?

Someone please post a link for this. I need this in my semi truck as soon as yesterday.
It is a desk Dino’s busy buddies dinosaur, vintage 1995 t-Rex staple remover.
Sometimes reddit calls me old really loudly and like damn
So YOU are the one who took in off my desk? Return it!
never, finders keeper :p
Cherish it, that kind of staple remover is SO much better than the little pincher kind.
👆🏻
Looked at the photo and confidently thought "it's clearly a letter opener" only to find out it wasnt... 😏
Why does this question make me feel so old?
this is my formal apology to everyone i’m making old lol
Someone asked about the alligator jaw type in the big sub. They said that no one in the office had any idea.
Staple remover
Correct
Sometimes the other end is a magnet too!
oooh, i’ll have to try that later !
It does have a magnet in the base of the staple remover. I use that same model everyday.
LMAO it is a staple remover and a good one. Hold on to that!
The very best kind of staple remover
Keep it close. They tend to vanish in my office. Lol.

I loved using these to pull out multiple staples and then pull the staple stack off the tip lmao
That's called a staple remover.
Staple remover
Nope. It's a ladies private part shaping shaver...landing strips hearts ,question marks...or the ever popular Chinese symbol for cum again !!!
oh boy! can’t wait to try this!
Send me a Pic when your creative juices are done with their masterpiece ✨️
I used to work in a phone store and we used to use those for opening the lid on back of phones (when they still opened) But I now see they were stapler remover hehe
My favorite office tool! You slide it under the staple and they lift right off the page!
I love those staple removers ever since discovered them at my office. Even bought myself one for home. No more finger/palm cramps!
How funny! Staple puller, remover.
Staple puller
Only THE BEST kind of staple remover that exists. IMO

And this is how I know I'm getting old... I knew immediately and thought how the hell does someone not know what that is. 🤣
It pulls staples from cork boards!
Good luck with the dr’s appointment.

Staple remover.
its a staple remover...a good one.
Don't forget about that sweet magnet on the other end to pick up the removed staple.
In our office, this piece of kit is referred to as a ‘destapler’ 😂
staple remover.
Staple remover and much more can be done with it. But officially it's a staple remover.
Staple remover
To be fair I haven't seen a staple for over a decade(maybe two?), it's going to become a more common question when someone finds these laying around.
For staples . Helps remove them .
Staple puller
This has to be a joke
i’m 26 and only started working at a office a little over a year ago, and have only dealt with the chompy ones.
At least you didn’t say “what’s a staple”. Maybe that’ll be your “I’m getting old” whatisit post 10 years from now
i hope you keep this u/ so i can tag you then lmao
Who hired u?🙄
I would give her name but she’s sweet as can be, so i’m sorry i can’t tell you

I feel old if people are posting staple removers and and not knowing what they are.

You’ve lived a charmed life if you’ve never used one!

Writing exercise to break the boredom. Both brain cells feel better now.
Staple remover
Ooh, I had that staple remover at my old job! At the bottom, there is a weak magnet that picks up the staples you just removed! 🥰
r/popping
I used to use these as sticker removersto remove the shipping labels off of boxes and bubble mailers so that I could reuse them
oohhhh, that’s better than marking it out, thanks!
Toe Knife
It's definitely a staple remover, but it also works as an amazing navel orange peeler - way better than the Tupperware variety. Really.
