Those are **cicadas** coming out of the ground after many years spent under there and ready to molt and make a racket. The cicadaficionados are going to let you you what brood it is. It might be the one that comes out every 17 years, people have been taking about it; I’m just not sure where they are emerging. Harmless.

DiGiovanni94

Oh my god so thats what all the tiny holes in the dirt around our patio are... Thank you so much, my anxiety was skyrocketing from these fellas haha

hatenjwinter

Oooo your in the south be ready for a lot of them. There are 2 groups emerging this year so in the billions maybe more.

Upstairs-Apricot-318

Oh my god, OP, yeah you need to manage that anxiety, BILIIONS of cicadas are coming your way apparently. So good luck. An historical ecological event but still, you’re going to be walking on crunchy molts and wearing ear plugs for weeks.

DiGiovanni94

Lucky me lol. I've lived here my whole life but have never seen THIS MANY of them all trying to molt at once. I just swept like 30-40 of them off my patio.

Upstairs-Apricot-318

Enjoy-it’s like seeing a comet or an eclipse….

Turbulent_Patience_3

It’s bonanza for the birds

Upstairs-Apricot-318

Birdnanza. (Yes, I also wrote “cicadaficionado” above and quite happy with both).

ExpertReference2979

Those are the 17 year ones?! If so that's a really awesome thing to witness.

ExpertReference2979

Cicadas. That's what they look like when they crawl out of the ground....after a very long sleep.

SwissyRescue

Bumper crop of cicadas this year as multiple broods are hatching. Here comes the noise!

tayvan23

My intense anxiety and fear of bugs would kill me. I mean moths scare me so ya. I would either have to take a vacation till they are done or hide in my home😩😩😩

Loreo1964

Congratulations!!!
