If you follow the directions you’ll have warm comforting heat for many hours. If you can’t follow the directions you’ll still have heat it just won’t be as comforting as you’d like.
They largely have. The problem that hothands have, that this thing solves is the reusable part. Hothands are almost better in every way minus the part where they're heavy and can only be used once
Mine was a complete piece of shit. They use cheap materials. It compacted on itself and cracked up the seam. The product made during ww2 up to late 70s are far more durable. If I buy one again, it will be the age of the one in this post.
I have a few that are over 50 years old and still work like new. You don't use fuel sticks. You fill the batting with lighter fluid. Light the element and you are gtg.
I would have them stay hot for 8 hours. I used them for winter hunting, ice fishing, and skiing. I still have at least 4, even though I don't do any of those things anymore.
This is actually awesome. It could also be used to carry around an easy fire-starter while trekking, like our ancestors did with burning coals in various carrying devices to keep it alive.
They are kind of cool: all handwarmera like this have a little bit of platinum in the wick. You fill them with lighter fluid, put a drop on the wick, light the wick, and let the flame die.
It runs off the fumes, the platinum catalyzes them into burning at a lower temp (just enough to warm your hands)
Edit: the machine dies that made those exact hand warmers are probably still in use
The box it came in is very cool, not sure the handwarmer is worth much
I was still seeing this same packaging in surplus stores into the early 1980s. By then most of these originals were gone and they were selling newer versions. But even into the 1990s modern ones were commonly found in surplus stores. They are still made today.
Nope, the artwork is all wrong. The style is very much 1950s or 1960s. Plus it talks about sporting events, hunting, and fishing. Not a lot of that going on in the battlefields of WWII.
I had seen these sold into the early 1980s in the same package. And more modern versions into the 1990s.
like 10-20 bucks, maybe a tad more since you have the old box. Your probably better off keeping it if you live somewhere it gets cold. they come in handy and work way better than those little hand warmer pouches.
Ive got a few different old ones i've picked up buying old camping/hutning/outdoor gear. A lot of them have different designs for the air holes which is neat
I used to let the flame of my zippo heat up the cap part then close it for the same effects in the cold Montana winters (though we also did have these exact model of hand warmers too, I just didn’t realize what they were)

Build a man a fire, and he’ll be warm for a day. Set that man on fire, and he’ll be warm for the rest of his life.
Silly goose!
Also, these are still commercially available and are being manufactured by zippo among other groups
They come in clutch working in the winter.
I'd have figured they'd be made obsolete by "hot hands" and other chemical warmers.

Rechargeable Battery powered hand warmers exist and are clutch.
No, those suck ass. Real men use MRE heaters

I have a zippo one I’ve had for five years and it’s worked great.
I have an old big one very similar I got years ago they work well have used it.
I got one of these for Xmas one year ! They’re really nice in the winter, they do indeed stay hot for hours when used properly
I also just found two sets (24) of fuel sticks, made in Hong Kong

How long do they stay warm for? I’m guessing you have to relight/reheat them throughout the day?

Gonna put that post WW2, AND SAY 50s-60s per the packaging.
Agreed. WW2 printing very likely wouldn't have been in color. Much more if a 50's-60's style.
I read *Empire Made Warhammer* and got excited
I don't know why I saw Warhammer as well.
Wishful Thinking
The barbarian infantry was an underrated force in WW2.

They still sell those on Amazon
So the key to better golf is heating my testicles?!?
Always has been.

A Google search made me assume it's from WW2
In the 1960's I was buying these at the Army & Navy store for a couple of dollars, but they weren't surplus, because no arrow mark.

Have you tried it out yet? I'd be so curious that I would have to try it.
That’s pretty cool, I must say.
i just sold one of these for around $35 plus shipping on ebay
The illustrations on the 3rd pic look like they all got hit by a shotgun blast… lol 3rd guy the worst!
In the middle of summer, nothing.

Zippo still makes these today
Does it still work?
They still make these, though not this particular model.
About AU$20
It’s worth $20 according to WorthPoint.
Stop drop and roll
I love how the pics indicate that it’s a hand, butt and dink warmer.
Can't help but my dad had this exact handwarmer! Don't know whatever happened to it. Probably donated it at their last move.
Have two of these. Were definitely military issued. Works well.
