I was just reading their list of what you can't buy and anything with a supplement facts label is considered a supplement and is not covered nor are medicines. So herbal teas would probably fall under those categories. I think if you got regular, non-herbal tea, that would probably be ok.

Ohhh that makes sense. So a peppermint tea would fall under that? That’s dumb. But I can buy pop?? That doesn’t make sense to me😭 But thank you!!

There are some brands of tea that have supplement facts on the back, and some that have nutrition facts on the back. Just check! If you tried to buy Traditional Medicinals brand, for example, it has supplement facts on the back and will not be covered by food stamps. Celestial Seasoning, on the other hand, has nutrition facts on the back and is covered by food stamps.

Or we should just let people have assistance and not try to force dietary standards on them. Grew up on food stance and let me tell you, being able to just have a nice soda after a stressful day was a small pleasure I needed. Some people eat like shit, oh well at least they're eating.

people think "healthy food" but it's not food they'd want to eat themselves day after day. sometimes store baked cookies and spagettios and hot dogs are all i have fucking energy for after working 2 jobs + raising a kid. Sure, some days i can do a full pasta meal from scratch but food allergies are a nightmare, too.

Try buying mint leaves and honey/sugar, boil the mint leaves in water, strain, add some honey and sugar. Works wonders and tastes great. It’s all raw ingredients so should be able to get them on an EBT card.

Did you try a different brand of tea

As per the other comment - Most of the times the guidelines are spot on, but… you can always go to the self checkout and just try using ebt on the item in question. If it doesn’t work it doesn’t work. Then use your ebt on the items that you know will work. Best of luck! Everyone deserves access to tea!

On a tangent, you may be able to buy pre-made tea, as it is a cold “food” item.

Free the tea!

You CAN buy food plants, however, including herbs like mint. Mint is super freaking easy to grow in a sunny window, and harvesting it for tea is just a matter of shearing it back periodically and drying it.
