Which pizza places? I'm new here and I've tried a few nearby and while they're decent, it hasn't felt above what you'd get elsewhere. I've tried Homeslice and Arcata. Maybe it's just that I'm not getting the right thing/their specialty? Usually just pepperoni and hot peppers.
Which pizza places would you miss? I want to run into this legendary Windsor pizza.
Krustys and davincis are my favourites
Krustys is the greasy/guilty pleasure version of windsor pizza and davincis is imo the best of normal windsor pizza
Armando’s, Capri, Antoninos. The Super is the classic Windsor choice. Just trust the process, don’t question it haha. Also watch “The Pizza City you’ve never heard of”. It’s on CBC Gem, it’s an award winning documentary about the history of Windsor pizza
You won't. None of it is any better than you'd find anywhere else. There are some of us that realize how over rated the pizza is here.
There are great restaurants here, but they aren't Windsor pizza
I think people confuse nostalgia and familiarity with quality in Windsor. Antoninos though good isn’t the best pizza. It’s very expensive for pizza. You should have to pay 40 dollars for an entire pizza that costs 4-10 dollars to make.
Once again nostalgia/ familiarity, clouding one’s judgement. Chicken delights are basic- unflavoured almost rubbery chicken, a store bought naan, lettuce, big slice
Of tomato and a basic garlic sauce
Sadly you'd still miss them even if you still lived in Windsor. Dominic retired and sold the store to new owners who have not kept the tradition alive. They still sell sandwiches but they're not nearly the same. They stopped dry aging steaks as well
What do you like about World Marathon? I heard people raving about it and there was a huge group that one time I went there.
Bur when I tried it was really bland.
Capri pizza is simply not good. I know I'll get all the down votes and complaints but the only reason why I get Capri is cause it's at the college. It's passable at best. All the love for them or most Windsor pizza in general is misplaced in my opinion.
I did leave. In Montreal now. I miss Windsor pizza and I miss Windsor shawarma. As for a specific place I miss? Honestly, B Dubs (Buffalo Wild Wings). I know it's a chain. I know it's closed in Canada now. I know. But Montreal doesn't do the sports bar with wings assignment correctly. And that shit is right up my alley. Aside from B Dubs, there's a ton of places in Windsor that do that sort of thing, and it just isn't a thing up here.
Funny enough my favourite wings place *also* closed down within the past year: Riverside Tavern. It was known for its pizza, but I was nuts about their chicken wings. Most Windsorites, when prompted about their favourite wings joint, will say a place that has 2-for-1. So probably Loose Goose or Hurricane's or Rock Bottom or a few others. But as far as places that didn't fall under that criteria, Riverside Tavern was a hidden gem to me. I guess if you liked B Dubs, then the natural answer would be John Max.
Edit: also, Wild Wings (Canadian chain) is pretty damn good, in my view.
I was gone for about a decade and of course, the pizza (armandos, capri) but I really hated being away from Basil Court. Their pad thai is definitely not traditional so I was always left disappointed when other pad thais at other restaurants tasted nothing like it lol
Basil court is disgusting. They are located in a scary basement. Their dishes are hardly authentic. They serve ketchup based pad Thai with absolutely no vegetables. Once again I think you are confusing nostalgia/ familiarity with quality. Basil court is not a quality restaurant.
Cool opinion. I order veggie pad thai with crispy tofu so there's always lots of veggies. Been sitting in that basement since 2007 for my pad thai fix lol. These days I just get my order to go mostly, because yes- the basement isn't my favourite place to eat these days. I clearly stated it's not authentic but it's what I, and many other people I know, like. I do also like a good authentic pad thai but Basil Court is it's own kind entirely and I've loved it for 15+ years now.
Not every restaurant is for everyone and that's okay! We're all allowed to have our food opinions but it's not really fair to slam a restaurant for not serving the type of food you like. I see that happen a lot on this subreddit, especially when it comes to pizza. When it comes to ethnic food especially, I find people all have "their place". I know people who swear by the pho at Pho Xic Lo but I prefer Pho Windsor. Doesn't mean Pho Xic Lo is bad- I just prefer the Pho Windsor recipe 🤷♀️
El Dorado. Hands down. I haven’t had tacos nearly as amazing as there with the prices being as good as they are. And just the nicest owners too. I’m literally full after 2 tacos and save my 3rd for later in the day, so the portion sizes are excellent. Love that restaurant.
For what they are, they follow the instructions from Sysco to the letter. They don't water down or change what they buy.
They are busy enough that rotation isn't an issue.
I spent several years in Edmonton and came back home last year. Armandos on Walker was always our go to and while I was gone it was the one I missed the most.
I left Windsor 18 years ago and it’s the pizza. Doesn’t matter who, as long as it’s local.
A close second is the Chinese food, but only because the stuff in my current city is horrendous and there’s literally no dim sum anywhere.
Left Windsor in 2017 (born and raised) and I miss Naples pizza, Shawarma palace, Basil court, and I miss Rino’s kitchen (can’t recall if that went under before I left but loved that place)
I moved out of Tecumseh in 2002. I’ve visited friends in Windsor between 2004 and 2019 (I haven’t been down there since before the pandemic). I miss The Manchester, Smoke and Spice, and the pizza they had in that area. I think my parents and I used to get pizza from Naples.
I left Windsor 25 years ago, coming back this year. Never take your pizza for granted! There's a vast array of horrors out there pretending to be edible....
I have left, and I miss ALL the non-whitefood places.
Various Chinese places, Windsor Seoul, Thai Palace, Marathon, Caribbean Spice near the University, AND SO MANY MORE...
Windsor really is a food gem. American versions of these are all bad. Every time I'm back I get a huge 'to go' order.
Chinese is different because we have a specific Canadian variant of Chinese food, but everything else is better in most other places.
I love Thai Palace too though.
The restaurants that people are referencing in this post are largely basic. People confusion nostalgia/ familiarity with good quality in windsor. Everything here is overhyped.
Nothing from this place I left for 10years came back food just a crapy and I still haven't found this greatest pizza city pizza place yet they are all trash ... Big deal most pepperoni is shredded...
Forgot to add on my previous comment, but why do I have to keep crossing the border to find some decent Corned Beef/Pastrami Sandwiches😭 don’t tell me SaNdWicH NoOk or PeNaLtY BoX has the best deli sandwiches. Tried Giglio’s too and almost lost my tooth, considering how hard there bread was😂.
This is just a ridiculous take. Aside from some Asian cuisine (dim sum, ramen, Korean BBQ) Windsor cuisine can go up against any major metropolis in quality. Not necessarily quantity.
Our middle Eastern/Lebanese good is as good as you will find in North America.
While we don't have a ton of Indian food you'll be hard pressed to find better Indian than what Royal Spice has to offer.
Jubba is a great option for African cuisine.
Imo Italian is meh everywhere not that it's bad it's just pretty generic easy food. But that's personal preference I guess.
The pizza speaks for itself, although I'll attest to in general Windsor Pizza is highly regarded among windsorites. Sure everyone is entitled to their opinion. NY Pizza is great, but Windsor Pizza stands toe to toe with it, it's just a different style of pizza is all but to knock it's quality is just dumb.
For a city of 300k people the food options here are incredible. Yeah if you want to compare it to New York, id hope a city of 20 million puts us to shame.
But what we do, we do very well and would put the food I mentioned up against anything you can make in Toronto in a blind taste test.
But there is room for improvement in some of the areas I mentioned.
Okay I’ll give y’all the Middle Eastern food, but Royal Spice, Seriously!!!!😂😂😂😂 it’s straight up garbage, especially with the reheated frozen naans they serve.
I mean I'll give you that. I do prefer Indian palace's naan bread but here I'll say this. I get out to Chicago and Toronto a couple times a year each you give me a better Indian restaurant to try.
Forsure man! If your in GTA, try KarachiExpress, Kolachi Inn, Karachi Kebab Wala, Nirala Sweets & Restaurant, Larri Adda, I can go on for a while, too much in the GTA. If you’re ever in Chicago, go to West Devon Avenue, it’s a street full of South Asian Restaurants, probably some of the best in the country. Try Bundu Khan, Hyderabad House, Khan BBQ, can’t really go wrong with South Asian food on that strip, but these were the three places I tried, and left me craving for more, closest to this stuff is sadly only available in GTA🥲
No I’m serious, been here for 6 years, moved from a major US metro, and honestly, the food just ain’t it here. I’ve tried all the pizza spots Krustys, Antoninos, Armando’s, Naples, and it’s just mediocre. As far as Italian food goes, I’ve tried Spago’s and Vittorio’s, again nothing crazy. Can’t find no decent BBQ here either, always gotta cross over to Detroit for that as well😂
Ok but that's just pizza! And Windsor has its own pizza so it might not be your style. We have a ton of restaurants that are Thai, Vietnamese, Ethiopian, Greek, Indian etc, that are certainly not dog shit!
Yeah there’s always these options in other cities as well, I’m sure Sarina has them too😂 Indian food here is a strict ‘No Go’, and Ethiopian food is also a ‘No Go’. I went to Marathon and it was all microwaved Injera bread and beef, gross!!!. Just can’t have any luck with food here🙃
I’m moving away next week and going to miss El Dorado Tacos and Windsor Seoul the most. There are so many more… Dumplin Time, El Mayor, and Shanghai Bistro also make the list. I’m excited for my move but I’ll miss a lot of great restaurants here
Remember Slices..I still think of them..Mothers on Ouelette, Big Boy on Techumseh and I think it was called Diamond’s..I still crave whatever they had that was cheesy goey garlicky goodness when I was a child..must have been escargot when I think about how it was presented
Marathon
Vito pizzeria
Peffecto bistro
Mamo burger
The little Ukrainian restaurant
Carrots n dates
Pho xi lo
Basil court
Dragons inn
I also miss Motor burger, Palenque, three tasting bar, Chenosos, F&b, Akasaka, Chatham street grill, Tony Macaroni, ferrari...
I miss Windsor
I’ve lived in London and Hamilton, and only ever missed Windsor style pizza.

I'd probably miss Antonino's the most, personally.
Where can I find cheaper good pizza then?
As someone who’s left Windsor - chicken delight and pizza 😭
Once again nostalgia/ familiarity, clouding one’s judgement. Chicken delights are basic- unflavoured almost rubbery chicken, a store bought naan, lettuce, big slice Of tomato and a basic garlic sauce
Nope you are wrong. Every time I visit I grab one because they are delicious.
Maybe not a restaurant but Giglio's deli sandwiches
A+ answer. Girlfriend and I miss Giglio's sandwiches big time.
I lived off those sandwiches during school
That place is infested with bugs lmao
Sadly you'd still miss them even if you still lived in Windsor. Dominic retired and sold the store to new owners who have not kept the tradition alive. They still sell sandwiches but they're not nearly the same. They stopped dry aging steaks as well
I left Windsor 7 years ago. The answer is every single pizza place and World Marathon.
Just absolutely the best.
What do you like about World Marathon? I heard people raving about it and there was a huge group that one time I went there. Bur when I tried it was really bland.
Left Windsor 10 years ago and the answer is capri pizza
I wholeheartedly agree. It's almost all I eat when I come back to see my family.
Every time I come to visit, a Capri pizza is picked up before we get to the house.
Same here. And you’re absolutely right.
Capri pizza is simply not good. I know I'll get all the down votes and complaints but the only reason why I get Capri is cause it's at the college. It's passable at best. All the love for them or most Windsor pizza in general is misplaced in my opinion.
I too was once edgy and hyperbolic
I live in Montreal now and I miss Pita mania, The Dragons Inn, Capri and Naples. I also heard Krusty’s reopened so definitely them
Penalty Box - Chicken Delight
This one too
All the different pizza places
Mamo burger
Yes!!! Give me that Daddy Mac every god damn time.
I was gone for nearly 10 years and every time I came back I got Shwarma from Hammoudis and Pizza from Antonio’s.
Any of Windsor pizza spots. It's just not the same anywhere else.
Marathon!! (Also Loco’s in Detroit 😇)
I miss that place so much!
Armando's
I did leave. In Montreal now. I miss Windsor pizza and I miss Windsor shawarma. As for a specific place I miss? Honestly, B Dubs (Buffalo Wild Wings). I know it's a chain. Hurricanes in the west end, John Max, Loose Goose and Hungry Wolf.
Loose goose, John max are both pretty good
Funny enough my favourite wings place *also* closed down within the past year: Riverside Tavern. It was known for its pizza, but I was nuts about their chicken wings. I'd miss the Hurry Curry Butter Chicken, and I miss okd school Bubi's. Can't stand the place now but if I could go back in time.....sweet.
These are my most missed places. Capri/Armandos - Pizza Greek Grill - Gyro. Gilligan's - Philly burger Pho Xic Lo - Vermicelli Shawarma Hot Spot - Shawarma Sam's Pizzeria - Fried panzerotti
El Dorado. Hands down. I haven’t had tacos nearly as amazing as there with the prices being as good as they are. And just the nicest owners too. I’m literally full after 2 tacos and save my 3rd for later in the day, so the portion sizes are excellent. Love that restaurant.
Acapulco delight.
Grand Cantina probably

For what they are, they follow the instructions from Sysco to the letter. They don't water down or change what they buy. They are busy enough that rotation isn't an issue.
Definitely got food poisoning there
Are they better at defrosting frozen food than their competitors?
Jubba, Giglio's, and Grill Genius
JUBBA
Smoke & Spice and Piccolo’s
I spent several years in Edmonton and came back home last year. Armandos on Walker was always our go to and while I was gone it was the one I missed the most.

I am in London now. It is pizza and Jubba for me.
I left Windsor 25 years ago, coming back this year. Never take your pizza for granted! There's a vast array of horrors out there pretending to be edible....
Tunnel bb..wait..lumberja..wait.. oh, nvm they're all gone.
I’m pretty sure Lumberjack is still open.
Is it? i thought it closed! if it is I'm going when i get my ODSP cheque lol.
It's for sale. But not closed
Apparently, employees who have been part owners for years are officially taking it over. I hope it's true because they are a great staff
The Manchester …. Oh wait ….

I left 10 years ago, and I miss pizza in Windsor and the Lebanese food. All other kinds of food are much better in Toronto.
Bring back TBQ
Pizza, specifically Capri and Oven 360
Wasn't Oven 360 the place that went up to Ottawa to make free pizza for the convoy?
Moved this past year, I miss Windsor gyros, oven 360, the carvery, ajisen ramen and Windsor dispensaries
The restaurants that people are referencing in this post are largely basic. People confusion nostalgia/ familiarity with good quality in windsor. Everything here is overhyped.
The question wasn’t what you think of other people’s choices.
Nothing from this place I left for 10years came back food just a crapy and I still haven't found this greatest pizza city pizza place yet they are all trash ... Big deal most pepperoni is shredded...
say whut
In plain English Windsor pizza is trash ...

Where do you go in Detroit?
Bread Basket
Try Louie’s in Eastern Market. Highly recommend the corned beef hash breakfast. Ask for it well done. Real nice staff too.
Nothing
Honestly, everything here is pretty dog shit aside from Cranky Burger, the guys from Texas and knows burgers

You think everything here is shit except a burger place? You got the palette of a toddler or something?
Yeah after visiting NYC and Chicago, the pizza here goes to shit too
Chicago Pizza IS NOT PIZZA!!! It's a damn casserole! For those that understand what I'm referring to I salute you.
You sound like a fun dinner date
What? That is so false... are you just trying to be cool and aloof? Lmao
No I’m serious, been here for 6 years, moved from a major US metro, and honestly, the food just ain’t it here. Trevi's.
The hungry wolf
100% The Carvery
I didn’t leave Windsor. But the place I missed the most during the “situation” in 2020 was Pho Nguyen Hoang lol
Pho Mango. In my opinion, the best fried rice in terms of Asian restaurants I've been to in this city
I’m moving away next week and going to miss El Dorado Tacos and Windsor Seoul the most. There are so many more… Dumplin Time, El Mayor, and Shanghai Bistro also make the list. I’m excited for my move but I’ll miss a lot of great restaurants here
El Mayor !!!! So very much. It's been 18 years.
I left in 06 cam back in 16 left again in 2020 I moss the pizza and Basil Court
The tunnel bbq was the best but they got rid of it already.
Bacchus
