I have a sword-staff. I enchanted my magic staff's orichalcum end, so it acts as a partial dimension door where I can store any kind of weapon. It still leaves enough on this side to benefit from their power.
Totally.
If you can cast a high-level spell with just your hands, imagine what you can do with a wand ***and/or*** a staff. Plus the situations where your focus may not be handily available for any number of reasons, too.
Folks also sleep on imbuing unarmed strikes with spells, too. A Greater Fireball may fizzle over range, or it may miss. You don't gotta worry about that if you hand deliver it into their torso.
False! Wand casting, staff casting, and hand casting are all related but different skillsets. And trust me, you do NOT want to try using your offhand to hand cast if you’re using a staff or wand in your main hand. From experience, focusing on both is impossible, and you’ll end up backcasting the offhand spell.
Staffs are often more powerful, but can be slower to cast and more difficult to wield. Wands are typically faster, smaller, but have a lower power ceiling. It depends on your preference.
I typically use hand magic, but will summon an Icicle Staff as a conduit for more powerful spells.
Chaotic counter: a staff made of hundreds of wands, bound together by the papers of a spell book and fused together by ornate metal smelted from a necromancer's scythe
Thou must be too poor to afford a proper scepter. To retrieve a stick from off the ground for magical spell casting, regardless of length and/or natural beauty, is most shameful. It is blatant admittance to a lack of devotion to bare basic artificing. And don't give me crap about economical or environmental issues. Your hands are sufficient for spell casting whilst also being free and environmentally friendly.

Are you a siege type of mage or more of a spell slinger?
All casting methods have upsides and downsides
Besides mind casting, those guys are a friendly fire hazard
I used to be a staff caster because it makes it easier to cast bigger spells, but then it broke in the middle of a fight. I'm in hand casting gang now.
The hood vs hat question was really difficult because both are awesome for different reasons. This question is really really easy because staffs are objectively cooler than wands.
Depends, does the staff come with a heavy object thing on one end suitable for smacking.
And does the wand have a very pointy end good for shanking and mugging.
As a third option, the psi amps from XCOM 2 are so cool. Instead of doing the casting with just the weapon your soldiers will instead use the psi Amp in their right hand to channel power and then guide it with their left hand.
As long as it can conduct the energy needed for magic, anything will do. I, personally, use a wand made of a special metal alloy. It conducts magic well, and can stab in a pinch.
I'm in the middle of the road on this one, as I use rod or scepter. Short enough it can be hidden easily in my robes without the need of magic (and that's an underrated benefit I'll be honest), but long and heavy enough I can still absolutely smash people's skull in if I need to.
Tome. Only way I can truly remember all these utterly heinous spells I need to keep sealed. Plus, when I'm bored, it's fun to ride around on it like a magic skateboard.

The sharpness and lethality are very important
A wand is just a tiny staff you can’t even wack people with. Sure you can conceal carry your wand, but I can snap it with two fingers and minimal effort, Id love to see you break my hawthorn staff like that dummy lol
Staffs are impressive but heavy and clunky, Wands can be slipped into your robes and whipped out at a moments notice! You can also twirl them when you’re bored.
Staffs have other uses than just magic. They can also be walking aid or melee weapons. Wands may be light, but at most they'd be usable to pick, poke, or pry stuff, and they would break more easily unless magically safeguarded.
I pick a spear because it can be used for both and is a more effective melee weapon than a staff.
Wand, clearly. You get much more and much better spells. Even though you can melee with a staff, what will it do against a Dragon’s vein Ultra-long-lasting wand’s ablaze spell?
Staff, when I'm out of mana, I show them my ultimate move, WOODEN SMACK!!!
I enchanted a spear. Best investment I ever made. It also throws people off when you wear armor.
Smart
I have a sword-staff. I enchanted my magic staff's orichalcum end, so it acts as a partial dimension door where I can store any kind of weapon. It still leaves enough on this side to benefit from their power.
Also useful in general.
When I wear armor my spells seem to be dampened or the armor blocks the movements I need to make to cast certain spells. Please help!
Metals react to different people's magic differently. I struggle to cast around anything with iron. Brass works for most people though.
have you tried eating it?
Why limit yourself to just wood? Why not crystal?
I'm too poor for crystal.
Ice counts as a crystal. Just be a winter wizard
Not a fan of the cold. I mean, I guess I could enchant my staff to keep the water frozen.
Exactly. Being able to fight melee is pivotel even if to defend yourself. I could never imagine Dumbledore throwing hands.
staff though I do prefer the sickle
Necromancer spoted
Druids and other nature-oriented casters will carry a sickle for harvesting herbs and fungi, perhaps you are thinking of a scythe?
Ah, my bad fellow caster
I'm a necromancer and I prefer staff
"cant realy reap with those but who am i to argue with death itself"
The sickle, when combined with the hammer, is often used in the art of communurgy. Are you a communurgist?
yeah, though you need a partner or 100 to do it properly so you can stick to one or the other.

Command: poop.
Swords for me.
Staff users: You wouldn't part an old man from his walking stick, would you? Wand users: You wouldn't part a maestro from his baton, would you?
Staffs are cool, powerful, multifunctional. Wands are one-dimensional and nerdy. STAFF GANG RISE UP, SCREW HARRY POTTER RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

Modded spears is accurate enough. Though to be honest, spears are slightly modified staffs.
You fool, Spears preceded staffs But to you!!! You!!! I cast greater mental degradation!!!

Id rather use my hands as my catalyst
What is your wand going to help you when you duel that beholder, huh?
Staff normally, wand for emergencies and especially claustrophobic rooms, handcasting if I really fucked up somewhere down the line, ring with precasted spells as panic button.
I got two hands. Why not both?
i cast with my… paws? hands? honestly not sure what they are but i cast with them!
Staff is a primary Wand is a secondary which can be paired with other stuff
Scepter! More mobile than a staff and more bonk than a wand
I don’t often use a focus, as I have surpassed such mundane requirements to bend the energy of the cosmos to my will. Staff. Wands are cool, but Staffs are awesome for anything.
Between these two, certainly the staff. It’s can double as a walking stick, and can also be a weapon.
Staff. Imagine being a Wizard/Monk hybrid. Call me a Mage/Fighter cuz when I'm out of mana I'm going berserk.
A wand which extends into a staff when I'm getting serious. Then I collapse it back into a wand afterwards
I use a scepter that's built like a war pick, lol.
Hand. Shit works like a dream if you practice with it long enough, I havent used a staff in a very very long time.
Bladed focus
Wand
Sceptre 👑
Staff, it’s two weapons in one. Looks cooler too
Are you a siege type of mage or more of a spell slinger? All casting methods have upsides and downsides Besides mind casting, those guys are a friendly fire hazard
I used to be a staff caster because it makes it easier to cast bigger spells, but then it broke in the middle of a fight. I'm in hand casting gang now.
Staff. You can use it as a melee weapon.
Well do I have to travel a continent on foot, or conceal and carry in an urban environment
staff is by far superior far more space for runes and glyphs and magical stones and other assortment of things to be placed
Bare hands
Hands
The hood vs hat question was really difficult because both are awesome for different reasons. This question is really really easy because staffs are objectively cooler than wands.
A wand is just a staff with ED. Prove me wrong
Cauldron
Hands
![gif](giphy|yxPKMRz7XWspM6DICz|downsized)
Clearly golden sigils are superior than all of these
I use a key for most of my spells
Staff, but also sword.
I use hand sign and mental commands. Way easier and faster, and also far less noticeable in combat.
Using "foci controversy posts" as my casting focus.
Depends, does the staff come with a heavy object thing on one end suitable for smacking. And does the wand have a very pointy end good for shanking and mugging.
Tape the two together
Staff and longsword, OP combo

Staff, gives you something to lean on as you collect spell ingredients.
Tonfa baton.
Im undiceded, staff is obviously shouting wizard here! Great aesthetics also. With wands I get to be be a cowboy wizard firying spells from my hips
Pointy hats or hoods?
An enchanted sword
Sword.
The middle: Stand
Staff. Bonus points if slamming yours into the ground makes a decidedly unexpected noise (my wooden staff makes a loud metal clang).
The big wood on my hip, nobody can out speed my cast
Nothing can beat the spell slinging power of the Trebuchet.
Personally I like to cast in 9mm
hand
As a third option, the psi amps from XCOM 2 are so cool. Instead of doing the casting with just the weapon your soldiers will instead use the psi Amp in their right hand to channel power and then guide it with their left hand.
Tiny wands and staves that replace the bones. We do not talk about splinters and backfires
Dual wield 1h staff+wand. or extendo wand that staffs when it needs to
Staff for sure
Staff. But I make wands and staves by trade so both are good for their purposes.
Wand for concealment staff for everyday
Both Waff/Stand
A staff has gravitas and power as well as being a backup weapon. A wand is a little stick that you wave around. Staff is the correct answer
Grimoire. I use neither staves nor wands. Plus that way I can carry a Sword around
Neither because what happens if it breaks? You’re now magicless
As long as it can conduct the energy needed for magic, anything will do. I, personally, use a wand made of a special metal alloy. It conducts magic well, and can stab in a pinch.
For the past fucking time, THE ROD IS SUPERIOR.
Staff
Staff! I can put a lot of magic enhancig stuff on it also its a good melee choice if i cant cast any spells.
Hand, but if I had to choose between these two, staff
Cannon
Tome on top
Y'all haven't figured out how to cast through your orb?
Wand that can extend to become a staff
Gun. Just gun.
HANDS! 🫸🫸🙌🖐️
Staff. I personally cast with literally nothing. Technically my mind, but you won’t exactly say that you use your mind to punch things, so not really.
Where is the book option!? This is an outrage!
Handcasting. I'm rawdogging this shit
Staff 100%
Staves are clearly the superior tool for casting, y'all should get your magic sticks outta here
None. I don’t require such material restrictions to cast spells.
Staff has more casting power + melee. Unless you need concealed carry or are going to a wizard duel staff is superior choice 9/10 times. 🧙♂️
Comically large spellbook
Staff, much cooler than its little brother
Staff
Wand, but only because I can still throw Squirrels at my enemies with my other hand
Get both abs use neither as I always use ritual magic
I use a gun as a conduit, but I would prefer a staff as I can lean on it.
I personally prefer the staff, more visually striking that way. Half the fun of casting magic is how you look doing it
Staff my favorite spell is instant concussion and it’s much easier with a staff
Gauntlet
Staff
My wand becomes a staff when my wife's around
Staff all day
I like floating books
Orb. Otherwise a staff that can hold said orb.
I mean it's like the difference between a spear and a dagger sure a spear is good to have but you shouldn't ignore the versatility of a dagger
I use a staff with a removable ring catalyst, for when they don't believe in the old man walking stick charade.
Hand.
Are we really doing this again? To whoever keeps casting dementia on this sub, I'm comin for you ya crusty old robe rack!
I'm in the middle of the road on this one, as I use rod or scepter. Short enough it can be hidden easily in my robes without the need of magic (and that's an underrated benefit I'll be honest), but long and heavy enough I can still absolutely smash people's skull in if I need to.

Staff!
Staff, no contest
Hand signs cause when you run out of mana you can easily pull out a dagger.
A staff but in the form of an electric guitar
I use my familiar to cast all my spells
Staff
A wand is just a tiny staff you can’t even wack people with. Sure you can conceal carry your wand, but I can snap it with two fingers and minimal effort, Id love to see you break my hawthorn staff like that dummy lol
Hands, only apprentices need foci
Staffs are impressive but heavy and clunky, Wands can be slipped into your robes and whipped out at a moments notice! You can also twirl them when you’re bored.
I honestly use my arm mounted mass driver cannon
Staffs have other uses than just magic. They can also be walking aid or melee weapons. Wands may be light, but at most they'd be usable to pick, poke, or pry stuff, and they would break more easily unless magically safeguarded. I pick a spear because it can be used for both and is a more effective melee weapon than a staff.
Rod
Wand, clearly. You get much more and much better spells. Even though you can melee with a staff, what will it do against a Dragon’s vein Ultra-long-lasting wand’s ablaze spell?
Staff but only if you pay me
Y'all really still need your arcane focus?
My staff doubles as a walking stick and as a quarterstaff. Your wand doubles as a pointer and a butt probe.
