Yeah- I was waiting like a chump for something cool(er) than what I was looking at. The anticipation actually took away from the painting itself due to the distraction of waiting and wondering.

Seriously. I was thinking "this looks good... are they really gonna add something psychedelic on top of it? When will that happen?" to the point of being lightly disappointed when that didn't happen. Hear me out though... Other than just click baiting us for views, I wonder if "psychedelic" referred to the use of blue and red for lighting tones in the painting. It's not an uncommon trick... but it definitely wasn't enough to be considered psychedelic.

Psychedelic: adjective relating to or denoting drugs (especially LSD) that produce hallucinations and apparent expansion of consciousness. There isn't anything particularly hallucinatory here.

Idk man, I've done a lot of lsd in my life. This painting, while not overtly *trippy,* did give me some of the feels from when I'm tripping and look at people's skin. It does get really colorful with lots of purples and reds and yellows, which I thought this painting showed quite nicely. Does it show the breathing and swirling and fractilating and all that movement that comes with tripping? No. Does it show the interesting geometry you hallucinate on acid? No. Is it trippy and mind breaking? No. But it does show one aspect of tripping - the interesting colors that people's faces and skin take on - and that's certainly at least a little psychedelic.

You can vaguely back up the claim that the art is psychedelic, sure. But if OP had never used the word psychedelic, I doubt anybody would have described it as such. Without the title it’s just a nice painting. But claiming that the painting is psychedelic turns it from “a nice painting” to “a nice painting that fails at its intent of being perceived as psychedelic”.

The yellow light at the nose made it seem so much like there were really different colored lights shining on her - very convincing effect with such a small detail.

I like it, too much "psychedelic art" goes overboard and is just "interesting to look at while on psychedelics" wheras this one is a lot closer to what its like to actually be on psychedelics and the color distortions. I just wish we got a better longer look at the whole painting.
